From romantic suspense author Tara Thomas comes Twisted End, the third novella in the Sons of Broad romantic suspense series. Welcome to the sultry streets of Charleston, where simmering desire and dark danger rule… First comes desire. Then comes love. But Janie and Brent need to stop the man out to ruin them, Before they can live happily ever after…
Twisted End brings us to the suspenseful conclusion of the three novellas that start the Sons of Broad series. We were left with a cliffhanger at the end of Hidden Fate and this novella picks up right where that left off.
Tara has been building this story us and leaving little clues in the first two books as to who the killer is, and if you’ve been paying close attention you probably had your suspicions on who it is. I had an inkling by the end of Shattered Fear.
This last novella was very fast paced and the shortest of the three. It is action packed and had my heart racing and my fingers turning the pages to see how everything was going to play out. The reader gets another glimpse into The Gentleman, and based on the little bit Tara gives us on him, I am excited to move on to the first full length book, which will be about Tilly, the girl that Janie befriended at the club where she worked undercover.
Alyssa plays a big part in this final novella, and Tara is torturing me a little with holding off on Alyssa’s full story until the third full length book of the series. The second book will be about Bea, Brent’s half sister.
These three novellas have been quick and fun to read. There has been plenty of suspense and mystery, but also a great love story between Janie and Brent. I wish that Tara had combined all three of these novellas into one full length story and added more for us on Janie and Brent, but hopefully they will make plenty of appearances in the three full length books.
“How did you move on when the worst-case scenario came to pass? Even more, how did you move on when you’d been part of what brought that scenario to pass?”
Feeling lost and alone while having to team up with someone you don’t completely trust that may hold all the cards in helping you track down the love of your life. How do you put that aside and entrust them to help you regain your world? Could you put her life in their hands?
“I’m not going to be rough, but I’m going to be very thorough and by the time I’m finished and we’re both too exhausted to move, you’ll know exactly how much I mean it.”
Fear, hope, defeat, anger, betrayal, love and scepticism. All of these thoughts were running through my mind as they were running out of time trying to outsmart the stalker.
“…sometimes safety was more mental than it was physical and that sometimes mental safety took the longest to accept.”
Brent and Janie are still in the thick of the investigation into The Gentleman. There are still lots of dangers to face, baddies to unmask and romance to deal with.
Brent is in the process of moving to DC with his new job and he is angling for Janie to come with him. But as they are stalked between the cities, getting a little too close for comfort, they’re not sure they will ever escape him.
There is a very satisfactory ending but there is big fat loose end, which neatly ties in these books with the other series featuring crossover characters of the Benedict Brothers and Brent’s sister Bea and Janie’s friend and fellow cop Alyssa. Some fabulous twists and turns and I enjoyed the whole series!

Triggers: Kidnapping and Murder
Janie and Brent are racing for their lives. This starts right where the previous novella stopped, and this did not disappoint. It’s constant action from beginning to end.
Despite the puppet master still pulling strings, for Janie and Brent, their story comes to somewhat of an end. They believe that everything will be okay and I really was glad that Janie was able to keep her relationships intact.
There are still bad people lingering, but hopefully all of those questions will be answered in the true series, which I also recommend reading.

Twisted End is the conclusion to Janie and Brent’s story, and from the first page you will be pulled right back into their little adventure, and once again teetering on the edge of your seat. In this installment Janie finds herself in the hands of a kidnapper, and it’s up to Brent to locate her and save her, with the help of a few returning friends from previous installments. Once she is located and about to be saved things take another unexpected turn, and Alyssa is now in dangerous hands… and things are kicked up another notch, and there are still a lot of unanswered questions swirling around!
This little trio of novellas have been quite fun to sit down and devour, each are loaded with thrilling suspense, a smidgen of romance here and there, and lots of action to keep things exciting! I look forward to continuing the adventure in the next installment, and hope to find more answers!! Highly recommend you check out this series, it’s sure to leave you spine tingling!!

REVIEW: 3.5 stars- TWISTED END is the third of three parts in the introductory story line of Tara Thomas’ SONS OF BROAD romantic, suspense series. This is police officer /investigator Janie Roberts, and wealthy playboy philanthropist Brent Taylor’s continuing story line. TWISTED END should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately following the events of part two HIDDEN FATE
NOTE: if you have not read the first two serialized instalments there may be some spoilers in my review.
Told from several third person perspectives including Janie and Brent TWISTED END is the conclusion to a three-part serialized story line focusing on the take down of a serial killer targeting young women in the Charleston area. With Janie Roberts missing, her best friend and fellow police officer Alyssa Adams, along with Janie’s boyfriend Brent Taylor, discover the true identity of the man stalking our story line heroine. With the killer one step ahead, Brent and Alyssa track down a man who is more than familiar to the story line characters. What ensues is the search and rescue of Janie Roberts, and the potential fall out as one man goes down while another remains on the run.
TWISTED END is a very quick read; a lively, action-packed, intriguing conclusion to the introductory story line that introduces the players in a game of cat and mouse. Although the identity of ‘The Gentleman’ in charge has yet to be revealed, my suspicions run towards a prominent figure in the Charleston area- a man who will continue to target and terrorize the local female inhabitants. The premise is energetic; the characters are animated; the romance is fated towards a happily ever after.
I will add, that in all honesty, I am not a fan of serialized novels, and my rating would have been higher if I did not have to review a little at a time. It is difficult to comment for any serialized story line, when there is little to no difference between each progressive instalment on the author’s writing style, world building etc. A serialized novel is ONE book that has been divided into several instalments with each successive instalment furthering the story-thusly-writing a myriad of reviews for a partial story tends to focus on the events and not on any particular changes to writing skill, structure and sound.
This review is for the three Sons of Broad prequels: Shattered Fear, Hidden Fate & Twisted End.
Strong, compelling characters pull readers into a thrilling story that fills readers with suspense and holds them hostage until the very end. This new series is off to a strong start with a series of three prequels that are fast paced, full of edge of the seat suspense, lifelike characters and steamy romance.
The author brought the story to life with well written words that provided vibrant imagery that makes it easy for the readers to picture each and every scene which keeps them glued to the pages and embroiled in the thrilling danger with surprising twists that keep readers guessing and a romance that is sweet and steamy. The first two prequels Shattered Fear and Hidden Fate end is hair raising cliffhangers, so you do have to read all three to get to the happily ever after but even with the romantic conclusion for Janie and Brent, there are still mysteries to be solved and bad guys to catch so the series will continue with the first full length novel Darkest Night and I am looking forward to reading the coming books in the Sons of Broad series.
