This story was a twisted retelling of Rumpelstiltskin and from the very beginning it drew me in and had me intrigued. We meet Aurelia who is a humble poor girl in the far King’s realm, she works hard to make up for her drunken father as a spinner, and she finds herself attracted to Roarke but he seems to be out of her league. Roarke has a unique quality about him as a magic bearer that he keeps hidden, yet his attraction for Aurelia runs deeper than that it’s fated almost so when she sacrifices her freedom to the Prince for her father’s life he will stop at nothing to save her. I found myself so into the action and twists the story went that I knew it was going to be amazing and I was right. I love fairytale retellings and this one kept me sucked in from start to finish and now I’m dying to find out about Adrian.
As a huge fan of just about everything Eddy puts onto paper, I was excited to get my hands on this ARC before its release.
My only complaint about the book would be its size! Within a couple of pages, I was hooked – class wars, forbidden love, and overbearing fae had me riveted right off the bat.
Aurelia is the perfect heroine, fierce and hardworking, determined to protect those she loves even while oppressed by forces she can’t hope to overcome. Roarke is the determined protector who must find a way to unlock the mystery that will not only save Aurelia, but their entire realm.
I loved seeing both points of view in the story, as Aurelia and Roarke both fought with everything they had to save themselves, and each other. I’d love to see more from this world – how did the King manage to create this realm, how did his guards come into his employ… what will happen to the realm following the events of this book?
If you’re a fan of magic and love conquering all, I’d definitely recommend this for an evening’s read.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved Aurelia and Roarke they were both strong characters. They not only had love and passion for eachother but also for those around them. The story was well-written with an interesting and unique storyline that had me turning the pages from the beginning the end. Highly recommend!
I received an advanced readers copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
Twisted Captive is a fairytale with a paranormal twists. A dragon shifter, a fae king, a damsel in distress are just a few of the interesting characters in the amazing world of Twisted Fairytales. Aurelia and Roarke’s story is a captivating story and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
Twisted Captive is part of the Twister Ever Alpha Collection. I love the cover! Aurelia and Roarke’s story is original, suspenseful, dark, action packed, and fast paced. Aurelia, an outcast, is strong and caring. Roarke, a sexy dragon shifter, is very protective, combative, and determined to save Aurelia from the Fae Prince. The world building, with Dragons, Fae, and Magic, is fantastic and well done. The supporting characters are great and intriguing. Now, I am looking forward for Adrian’s story, in Tempted By Fae, A Midnight Coven Anthology.
Even though this is a quickish read it still has plenty going on to draw you in and keep you captivated along with feel like it was a longer book than it was! I just loved Rumpelstiltskin’s world where the rules are ruthless and judgment of others rules, of course that means we have to have those who buck the rules or can’t help but go against what they are meant to. Aurelia and Roarke are fantastic I love the passion they have for those around them and each other as well as their determination, you can’t help but feel the need for them to come out on top in the end!! I can not wait to read more about this world as it has me hooked now!
Fantastic retelling!
I absolutely loved this retelling of Rumpelstiltskin. It was fast paced, suspenseful, full of twists and with a little bit of darkness that will captivate you and entertain you to the end. The characters are fantastic, magical and some are down right evil! It was a great read and well written! I loved every second of it!
Even though I’m not one to lean towards the paranormal or fantasy, because this was written by one of my favorite authors, I accepted an ARC from her, but I also loaded it up in KU because she ought to make a little money from me occasionally.
My first thought about the book was that I hadn’t read the tale of Rumpelstiltskin for years, so I immediately went to my library of fairy tales and read it. After completing the old tale, I read the new one.
As soon as I opened the story, I was hooked? And very simply. I have always been a weakling for a dragon, so Roarke was mine from the start. And Aurelia was his perfect mate. There’s not much I will say about the book here, because I don’t want to give away a couple of twists in the story. But you should read it so you can see them for yourself.
The King, the Prince, the Guards, were all written as wonderfully evil as could be and that added so much to this re-imagined fairy tale. I loved it. In fact, over the last two days, I’ve read it twice, just to make sure I hadn’t missed anything. As always Ms. Eddy writes her books with care and a loving hand. Her protagonist characters are warm and well developed and her antagonist are written just as well, but not quite as warm and cuddly. Her plots are always spot on, with the arc of the story always clear. In this case, she’s imagined what this story could be with a few twists and turns and wrote it with that deft hand I love to read.
I have already pre-ordered the next book, which is part of an anthology. I’m not so sure I want to read a paranormal or fantasy anthology, but I want to see what’s next for the Fae. Kudos to you once again Ms. Eddy for writing a story that your readers can sink their teeth into.
With Twisted Captive, Patricia D Eddy proves once again that she is an incredibly gifted storyteller. Her retelling of the fairy tale Rumpelstiltskin is both creative and captivating. She breathes fresh life into a story that’s been recycled time and again. She gives us unique and well crafted characters that the reader will completely fall for. I simply can not wait to see what she gives us next.
Rumpelstiltskin was a dark story to begin with and in this retelling it becomes even darker Aurelia and her father are been held trapped in the fae realm by a dark king and his son and they can see no chance of escape What they don’t know is that Roarke a man who Aurelia is attracted to is much more than he seems Can this protective alpha dragon shifter save the woman he has realised is his mate and in the process save the entire Fae realm. This is a dark twisted tale that may not be for all but it is masterfully told
I’m a huge fan of Ms Eddy’s book and this book just proves why. In a world where fairy tale retellings are becoming quite common, Ms Eddy’s stands out among them. This story is fresh and uniquely alluring. Aurelia and Roarke have depth and dimensions to them that so enthralling that you will find yourself so immersed in their world, you won’t to leave it. This retelling is new, seductive and just down rite exiting to read.
Patricia Eddy keeps pushing me out of my comfort zone, and this time she’s done it with a dragon shifter and a much-disliked fairytale. A modern, brilliantly written take on Rumpelstiltskin, Twisted Captive is, as the name implies, a twisted universe, and it has one of the most desirable (in all respects) characters I’ve read for a while – Roarke, the dragon shifter. I found him to be a more sympathetic character than Aurelia, but I think I just fell for him! This is a short read, and it could have been twice the length – I really was sad to see it end. I can’t wait for more of these retellings.
I received a free copy of this book, and my review is posted of my own volition.
Twisted Captive: A Rumpelstiltskin Retelling is by Patricia D. Eddy and is part of the Twisted Ever Alpha series. This is a stand alone novella that I enjoyed so much.
In this world, humans are outcasts. They along with those that have magical powers, are all trapped in a realm by an evil Fae King and his son. It is forbidden for an outcast to bond with someone with magic. Outcasts can only be with Outcasts. Aurelia is an outcast. She was raised by her father who spent his time drinking so Aurelia was forced to weave beautiful garments and blankets to sell at the town market to put food on the table.
Roarke is a dragon shifter but shifters are not allowed to exist in this realm. If the King learned of his existence, he would be killed. So he keeps his dragon hidden. Roarke has known since he first saw her that Aurelia was his mate. He was determined to convince her to give him a chance. But before he could, the King and his son took her away to their castle. Is there a way to rescue her? Is there a way to end the reign of evil they have all lived under for so long?
This was so good. I loved this world. It was more suspenseful than I thought it would be and I had to keep reading to see what would happen. If you like sexy dragon shifters, you definitely should put this one on your list!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Take the fairy tale by Grimm’s brothers and put some twisted magic and paranormal into it and you’ll get a very modern re-do of the 200 year old tale. Rather short story but nevertheless very worth your time.
