I absolutely love the Marshals series. It’s one of my favorites, and a comfort read. I adore the audiobooks as well. Miro and Ian are one of my favorite couples in gay romance. Twisted and Tied was absolutely wonderful. I laughed, cried, sighed, wanted to smack them upside the head, but I fell in love with them even more. It had everything I’d hoped for.

I liked the last book in the series more than I expected. Sure it had small bits and pieces that irked me but still. I liked it a lot. Ian and Miro together were tender, passionate, caring and sometimes dangerous. I enjoyed everything about them. The way the author finished everyone’s story was rather good. Everyone ended where they never thought they would but really needed and wanted to be. Craig Hartley resurfaced like a bad case of rash but Ms Calmes really surprised me with where she led the story there. I actually got very emotional. Well done! Life moves on, no one is stagnant and least of all is marshal’s office in Chicago. There are a lot of exciting adventures that will happen to the team that Sam Kage assembled through the years, and I am sure they will go on them all and live up to their names. Wonderful conclusion to the series.
I have loved this series and all these characters. Calmes knows how to build a series, characters and an intriguing, suspenseful storyline.
As we start book four Ian and Miro are married and facing new career paths. This brings about some strain in their relationship and old insecurities arise. In addition, the FBI is back looking for Miro and that can only mean one thing.
The way the book wraps up and ties loose ends together is brilliant. Things fit in perfectly with the way the characters have been developed. It was a very satisfying conclusion and we can now picture happily ever after.
I have to say I was worried when I read the synopsis for this one. Miro has been through SO much, I just wanted to him to have five solid minutes of happiness and peace. The way things roll out in the story though, I shouldn’t have been worried. It’s an action packed, non stop roller coaster that twists and turns and hurls you sideways then drops you on your ass. But it’s so damn good!!! The book literally hits the ground running and it doesn’t stop until the very end. I was beyond engrossed with this story, I was listening in the car via my Zune which I don’t normally do.
After listening to the entire book, the path Calmes put these characters on made perfect sense. I mean, seriously, if you know Ian and Miro you know that life is never going to be home by five, dinner at the table with an aged red wine, feeding each other strawberries and making love by candlelight. With these two it’s more like spaghetti that doesn’t drip it’s so thick at damn near midnight after dropping a sociopath of at the nuthouse. Followed up with hot, rough, sweaty sex in the pantry before falling into bed exhausted and sticky then waking up with thoughts of beating the shit out of the ringing cell phone with a very big gun.
Tristan James, goddamn I love this man. There is nothing he can’t do with his voice. What I love is that each and every book in this story flows seemlesly with each and every character clearly conveyed with the same tones, nuances and vocal ticks from one book to the next. I could probably spend a weekend listening to this series back to back and be perfectly content.
If you like stories with two strong willed gentleman that can’t get enough of each other and like to chase crazy people into burning buildings or run toward a spray of bullets instead of away from them. You’ll love this one! You have to start with book 1 though, they must be read or listened to in order.
I love the way Mary Calmes writes. She has a way of making you feel like you’re in the room with her characters, listening to their conversations.

So, I think that I might be in the minority for this review. While I absolutely loved the previous book, this one took me a while to get into. The author has asked for no spoilers and I’ll honor that, so this means that the review will be very vague.
Ian and Miro are a fierce but sweet couple. They love each other and like with all couples, they either need to grow together or grow apart. That’s a choice in this series and it made me glad that you were able to see this couple again. Too often, we’re just given that either a couple works or doesn’t, but we are not given the chance to see their choices.
There are a lot of repeat characters and I think the reason that I didn’t enjoy this book as much was that it took a lot for me to really get into the story. I felt that, for me, the story didn’t get interesting until about 40% in.
Overall, I was happy with the direction that this story went. I think that the resolutions in this book are well worth it, if unexpected, and that most readers are going to love it!
