BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Sophie Kinsella’s Wedding Night.Lara Lington has always had an overactive imagination, but suddenly that imagination seems to be in overdrive. Normal professional twenty-something young women don’t get visited by ghosts. Or do they? When the spirit of Lara’s great-aunt Sadie—a feisty, demanding girl with firm ideas about fashion, love, and the right way … fashion, love, and the right way to dance—mysteriously appears, she has one request: Lara must find a missing necklace that had been in Sadie’s possession for more than seventy-five years, because Sadie cannot rest without it.
Lara and Sadie make a hilarious sparring duo, and at first it seems as though they have nothing in common. But as the mission to find Sadie’s necklace leads to intrigue and a new romance for Lara, these very different “twenties” girls learn some surprising truths from and about each other. Written with all the irrepressible charm and humor that have made Sophie Kinsella’s books beloved by millions, Twenties Girl is also a deeply moving testament to the transcendent bonds of friendship and family.

This book had me laughing out loud! Fun and feel-good, I totally recommend this to fans of chick lit and humor.
Read this one as an audio book, and truly enjoyed every minute of it. The audio book’s reader was British, and gave the book a distinct flair that enhanced the whole experience for me. The book was well written (as are the rest of Sophie Kinsella’s books) and I enjoyed a book that explored, at least in part, the roaring 20’s. Fun, funny and touching book. I completely recommend!
One of my favorite Kinsella’s books.
Sophie never disappoints and this was no different. Sadie may be my favorite ghost of all time.
Twenties Girl follows the main character, Lara, who ends up becoming “haunted” by the ghost of her relative. This is a unique book that looks at the differences between generations and shows how important understanding family and their history is.
Another great Sophie Kinsella book with a haunted twist.
I loved the book.
favorite author
I do not normally read books like Twenties Girl. It’s straight up fiction, modern day, set in London. The last couple of times I’ve read similar fiction have not, honestly ended well. There was The Spoiler, which left me wondering how all of the reviews (and NPR – NPR, for God’s sake!) had gotten it so wrong; I could not even bring myself to finish Last Night at Chateau Marmont. But Clio wrote a fantastic review and since she (almost) never steers me wrong, I figured, why not? Twenties Girl is absolutely laugh-out-loud hilarious. It is the funniest book I have read since Good Book and that was a year ago.
Here’s the set-up: Lara Lington’s life is a trainwreck. Her boyfriend has inexplicably walked out on her, and her business partner has decided to stay in Goa somewhat indefinitely. Lara has no money, no life, and she’s desperate to remember which lies she’s previously told her parents so not to confuse the story line when they come to pick her up for the funeral of 105-year-old Great Aunt Sadie, whom Lara has never met.
Life goes from bad to worse at the funeral when dead aunt Sadie, whose casket is just there, feet from Lara, refuses to go to her grave quietly, but rather begins to haunt Lara. See, she has lost her necklace and she’s in a sort of purgatory unless Lara can find it. She’s also rather bossy and saucy and reappears at the most inopportune times. In addition to finding her necklace, Sadie is obsessed with the Charleston and determined that Lara will learn.
Twenties Girl is completely and utterly over-the-top. It is ridiculous in the best sense of the word and it is hilarious pretty much from start to finish. Sophie Kinsella has created a lighthearted masterpiece here and I’m sorry I doubted for a minute whether I should read it.

Fun, different premise for Sophie Kinsella. Enjoyed as I did all her books
Twenties Girl was my book club’s choice for November. I should mention that I’ve gotten into the habit of NOT reading the blurbs on my book club books and just diving right in. That being said, when I started reading I was expecting just a fun chick lit book. What I got however, was a fun chick lit, romance, mystery, paranormal book that was really interesting! Lara, the main character, is going through some troubles in her life like any main character of a chick lit book. As a character, she’s witty, amusing, frustrating, and lovable. When a ghost starts to haunt her, bringing in the paranormal element, everything starts to change. A hunt for a necklace and attempts to win back her boyfriend as well as win more clients turns into an investigation and a chance to turn her whole life around. As a reader, you find yourself becoming more and more proud of Lara as the story weaves on and ultimately I was left equally immensely happy and slightly sad for her by the end of the book. I can honestly say I was a fan of this book.
Loved this book!!!
I really enjoy Sophie Kinsella books and this was one of my favorites. It’s quite different from her other books, which I also liked. Give it a read!
This is one of my favorite books, I would recommend this to anyone!
Great story, a haunting with humor. This was a feel good book. Enjoyable.
Classic Sophie Kinsella! Funny situations and fun to read. I always hate when her books end.
Cute and funny. It had a lot of twists and I couldn’t predict where it would go; the conclusion was obvious from the start, but I couldn’t have told you how it would get there. Some of the characters’ actions were a little unrealistic and unbelievable, but it’s a light, fun read if you don’t take it too seriously. Some unexpected depth came in the discussion of mortality and meaning in life, and I appreciated that this was included and woven so seamlessly into the overall light/funny narrative. Well done.
Loved this book. It was full of quirky twists and turns but full of humor. I thought it was well written and fast paced.
Will read more by this author.
Clever twist
Twenties Girl is one of my favorite Sophie Kinsella books. Light-hearted & fun!
