Meet Pepper, swim team captain, chronic overachiever, and all-around perfectionist. Her family may be falling apart, but their massive fast-food chain is booming — mainly thanks to Pepper, who is barely managing to juggle real life while secretly running Big League Burger’s massive Twitter account.
Enter Jack, class clown and constant thorn in Pepper’s side. When he isn’t trying to duck out of his obscenely popular twin’s shadow, he’s busy working in his family’s deli. His relationship with the business that holds his future might be love/hate, but when Big League Burger steals his grandma’s iconic grilled cheese recipe, he’ll do whatever it takes to take them down, one tweet at a time.
All’s fair in love and cheese — that is, until Pepper and Jack’s spat turns into a viral Twitter war. Little do they know, while they’re publicly duking it out with snarky memes and retweet battles, they’re also falling for each other in real life — on an anonymous chat app Jack built.
As their relationship deepens and their online shenanigans escalate — people on the internet are shipping them?? — their battle gets more and more personal, until even these two rivals can’t ignore they were destined for the most unexpected, awkward, all-the-feels romance that neither of them expected.

This was the cutest darn debut on the planet! I devoured this little gem of a book faster than Jack devoured Pepper’s monster cake. It was that delicious!
The premise of this story is really what drew me in. I read the synopsis and immediately knew that I had to read this book. I just loved the invigorating plot of this book. The entire story was fun, entertaining, and so addicting. I really meshed with Lord’s writing style. It really spoke to me. The narration was brilliant and so immersive. This book really felt like more of a mature young adult book instead of being powderpuff cute. The book does focus on some deeper things. While there is plenty of humor in the story, Lord doesn’t skimp on the emotional aspects of the story either. There was such a perfect balance.
I really loved these characters. These were hands down some of the most realistic and authentic characters that I have read in a long time. These are real people with real problems and real lives. The reader is absorbed into their lives effortlessly. It was so easy to fall head over heels for these characters. I loved that they had distinct personalities that really made them stand out. Both main characters, Pepper and Jack, had a lot of depth and their character development was spectacular. I very much loved all of the secondary characters. I also really loved the representation of both family and friendship found in the story.
The majority of the romance in the story is Pepper and Jack getting to know each other and falling for each other. More like friends, really. Which isn’t a bad thing. I liked them a lot as friends and as a couple. I truly loved their innate chemistry with one another. There could have been a little bit more making out though.
Overall, this story really blew me away. This is a story that I am really enthusiastic about. This was a truly brilliant debut and I can’t wait for what’s next from this author.
My Thoughts:
Tweet Cute was a delightful and charming read! If you are looking for a light-hearted, feel-good romance, look no further. Pepper and Jack had me smiling and giggling, like I was back in high school.
Pepper misses small town living and the family deli, where she grew up in Nashville. As the family business, Big League Burger grew, her parents grew apart and divorced. Now living in New York alone with her mom, Pepper demands perfection from herself. She gets straight A’s, is in all A.P. classes, and is captain of her private school swim team. However, Pepper is lonely. She misses her older sister Paige, who is estranged from her mother, her dad who still lives in Nashville, and the life she use to have. Living in the big city is vastly different from the comforts of small town living, everyone knowing each other, and the ease of built in friendships.
Jack works hard in his family’s deli, Girl Cheesing. He is tired of living in the shadow of his identical twin Ethan, who is very popular, successful in school, and expected to leave high school and do big things; while it is expected that
Jack will run the family business one day. Jack is resentful and has secret ambitions of developing apps. He anonymously develops Weazel an app where the teens from his school are paired up with another person, but identities are kept secret.
When Big League Burger steals Grandma Belly’s grilled cheese sandwich recipe and posts it on twitter, Jack is outraged. He tweets a comment that ends up sparking a twitter war between him and Pepper. Pepper is pressured by her mother to post tweets on the corporate page, because she has quick and witty comebacks, while Jack, and at times Ethan, post tweets on their family business’ page.
As secret pen pals on Weazel, and anonymous comments on twitter pile up, these two interact with one another all day long, and don’t even know it! However, in real life Pepper and Jack start getting closer due to participating in swim captain duties for their high school.
I loved all of the interaction between Jack and pepper. It was fun, sarcastic and witty at times, sweet at times, and all around such a great time. I love #pepperjack! These two connected with one another on such a deep level, and filled emotional needs in one another. They became best friends, each other’s biggest support, and I was rooting for them to figure everything out and be together!
If your looking for a super sweet, cute, fun, feel-good story, pick up Tweet Cute! It was such a delightful treat!!!
Tweet Cute is the cutest, sweetest YA romance ever!
Pepper moved from Nashville to New York City a few years ago, she struggled to adjust to her elite new school while her family was falling apart but she’s an overachiever so she’s now top of her class and swim team captain. She doesn’t have much time for other stuff besides baking and running her family’s fast-food chain, Big League Burger, social media account.
Jack has a very, very popular twin and he’s very tired of constantly being in Ethan’s shadow. They’re identical twins but they have very different personalities. Jack likes to play around with apps, he’s a really funny, good guy, works for his family’s deli and runs the deli’s social media account.
Both Pepper and Jack have inner struggles like any typical teen and I really liked how the story explored their feelings, their expectations, the pressure they were putting in their own shoulders and what they thought their parents expected and demanded from them. Both of them were amazing characters! I’m probably being vague but honestly I don’t want to spoil much about this story.
I absolutely loved the Twitter feud, I laughed so much during some of the tweets and I loved Jack and Pepper’s antics trying to gain the upper hand. I fell in love with Pepper and Jack and I was very invested in their relationship.
Overall, Tweet Cute was funny, sassy, witty, sweet and emotional. I adored it and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys lighthearted YA contemporary.
*Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.*
You know I almost NEVER recommend books here unless they make me outright happy. And this one was just a flat out fun YA. It does have a handful of swear words, including one F-word for comedic effect in a recipe title. It is super entertaining and I found myself staying up late one night and then staying in bed the next morning and shirking my mom duties to finish. Seriously: big fun.
Reveiw.5
Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read an arc of Tweet Cute.
Young Adult isn’t really my favorite genre. But this book was cute. I really loved how the names are Pepper and Jack, being that the whole story is based around a grilled cheese.
Tweet Cute did seem like it was a little busy with the whole Twitter war, the weazel app, the feud between the families, sabotage, all wrapped up in a love story.
Thank you Wednesday Books for an advanced copy. I voluntarily reviewed this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Tweet Cute

*REVIEW*
I love young adult fiction, especially when it’s something fresh and fun like Tweet Cute. The cover is adorable and immediately caught my attention. The underlying idea of this story is not necessarily new-girl meets boy, drama, all ends well-but, the method of the story telling is geared toward the Twitter generation, and that is refreshing. For young adults, social media is their world, and I think this format and subject matter are highly appealing. I’m personally not on Twitter, pause here for you to absorb this shocking revelation, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the story. I found it very entertaining and engaging. The war between Pepper and Jack is hilarious at times and serious at times with a nice balance between the two. These teens have real problems like parental pressure, sibling rivalry, getting good grades, college and future decisions, etc. In addition to reality is this Twitter war that began as a joke but has grown into something more serious with a lot more at stake than Pepper and Jack ever imagined. Both have involved loving families, and I was glad to see this because I’ve read too many stories lately with absent parents or terrible family relationships. Emma Lord has written a clever, witty and sharp dialogue between her characters that I loved. It’s so interesting to watch Pepper and Jack grow individually, with their families and with each other. Overall, this book is a delightful treat filled with heart, humor and high school love. This is a smart and very relatable book for a digital generation, but old people, like me, can read and love it, too!
A witty rom-com reinvention for the Twitter age, Tweet Cute pairs delicious online rivalry with deeply relatable insights on family pressure and growing up. This fresh, funny read had us hitting ‘favorite’ from page one.
Tweet Cute is a cute and sweet YA story. It is full of fun and snarky tweets as two high school teens find themselves on opposite sides of a grilled cheese Twitter war.
“Twitter, I can deal with. Pepper, on the other hand, has a way of sneaking up on me I’m not so sure about.”
I loved all of the characters in this story. Jack and Pepper’s family, friends and schoolmates were very entertaining. And there were a couple of surprising twists to round out this fun story.
-4 Stars-
A Twitter war kicks off when this big chain restaurant, Big Burger League, decides to rip off a recipe from a small deli, Girl Cheesing. I was so happy to have gotten so much tweets in this war. I wouldn’t have minded more because they definitely had me laughing and entertained.
Pepper and Jack are basically the ones to handle the Twitter accounts for each company. All the burn happens on Twitter between these two. They don’t even know they go to the same school and could possibly even be talking to each other through an anonymous app!
I loved Pepper’s determination and just the type of young woman she is. She studies so hard and really tries her best to succeed. To others, especially to Jack, she seems like she’s untouchable and she probably looks down at others, which is so far from the truth! When Jack finally talks to her thanks to a mess-up with the swim team and diving team schedule, he realized just how amazing she really is.
Jack was a perfect addition to this story. He was just the type of friend that Pepper needed. I loved how smart he is! He’s even developing an app, which is where students can go in anonymously and talk to each other without putting up the persona they are at school.
In this app is where Pepper and Jack start getting to know each other, without knowing who’s the other person. The bond and connection that they had through the app was beautiful to see. When these two finally date, it’s so easy to see things transition smoothly from enemies-to-friends-to-lovers.
Also, Jack even develops other apps, just to mess around, which one of them has to be my fave! I need it in real life! Give me all the Mac-N-cheese! (Read it so you know what I’m talking about.)
Something that truly stood out to me where how the characters never really changed into something else. I mean, Pepper and Jack had the Twitter war fame going for them, yet they didn’t let it change who they were or let it get to their heads. On the contrary, they stayed so down to earth and genuine!
Overall, Tweet Cute is a charming debut novel that will entertain you to the very end. I cannot wait for more from Emma Lord!
This book is adorbs and my heart just can’t get over it! Emma Lord’s debut novel, Tweet Cute, is just so fluffy, irresistibly charming, and at times quite chessy, but this book also has heart and I absolutely loved it all.
I had so much fun with this book and can easily say that this will be one of my favorite contemporary romance reads this year. The writing style, for a debut author, is quite impressive. The pacing is good and even when some parts of the story slowed down a bit, I wasn’t really bothered by it and just kept turning the pages. The plot has so many wonderful moments that definitely made me smile, laugh, and warmed my heart. There’s also plenty of snark, a few surprises and twists, and just pages and pages of yummy goodness that had me hooked. I enjoyed the drama, the twitter rivalry, the humor, the lighthearted moments, and the cute romance. I liked the ending and while I kind of craved more swoons and feels (like a pinch or two more), I was pretty happy and satisfied with the conclusion.
Pepper and Jack stole a piece of my heart and I’ll forever ship them. I loved their chemistry, playful bantering, and how their relationship developed throughout the story. I definitely swooned as I watched them fall for each other and my heart ached whenever there would be some sort of misunderstanding between them. I really liked them as individuals too and seeing them succeed and grow into their own was interesting and fun. The supporting casts are great and played their roles well even if some frustrated me, but Pooja definitely stood out the most and in a really good way. I definitely adored Grandma Belly and Jack’s mom is such a sweetheart.
Emma Lord served an irresistibly delightful, fun, swoony, and heartwarming story that had me cheesin’ like crazy until the end. I devoured everything about this deliciously entertaining YA rom-com and I will surely miss PepperJack, monster cakes, and all the chessy feel good moments. But more than anything, this is a story about family, friendship, forgiveness, love and ultimately doing what truly makes you happy. Such fantastic and beautiful story and I truly recommend this book with all my heart.
If you’re looking for an adorable, lighthearted, sweet, and endearing story that will make you laugh, swoon, and crave your favorite food and desserts, then I think you should definitely add this book on your TBR!
I received an advance reader copy from the publisher, Wednesday Books, via Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest reviews. All thoughts, opinions, and swoon are my own.
Sweet and fun! An adorable debut that updates a classic romantic trope with a buzzy twist.
Tweet Cute delivers in every possible way: a perfect enemies-to-lovers romance, a whip-smart plotline, and endearingly real characters. I devoured it.
A hilarious and adorable rom-com with a spot-on teen voice and characters whose vulnerability and open hearts will make them feel like lifelong friends. Readers will be cheering for Pepper and Jack from beginning to end… and waiting with anticipation for them to fall in love.
This was such a cute and fun read. Think Gossip Girl meets You’ve Got Mail.
Word of advice while reading make sure you have eaten because with all the talk of the Deli and BLB and ALL the desserts my stomach growled a few times.
Pepper and Jack take us into the world of teens and their social media presence. Navigating being over achieving seniors, they are getting ready to embark in the college world. Cue in the pressures of parents, family business, and overall NYC prep school expectations.
This story is very different from what I normally read which was refreshing and a great way for me to start off the New Year.
I definitely recommend this read to those who love a younger, sweeter take on romance. This is something I would absolutely recommend to my friends with young teenagers.
Adorable and funny. You can read my full review at http://www.ramblingsofadaydreamer.com
I can count on one hand how many books I’ve read that simultaneously made me:
– laugh so hard I think I pulled something (I’m old it happens)
– get so hungry I had to put the book down to get a cookie
– cry-laugh and laugh-cry all on the same page
– actively keep going to twitter to want to look at the accounts and hashtags being used in the book, only to remember this is a work of fiction and I would come up with no results found
– positively squeal and fangirl whenever there was a Taylor Swift reference
And when I say I can count on one hand, I mean it. Because that number is one. This is the only book where I’ve felt all of these things all at once.
I loved this book so much. I’m calling it right now; I have a feeling this will end up in my top 10 reads of 2020. It’s only January and I already feel that confident. I really loved it that much.
Jack’s POV left me in cackling stitches. Pepper’s dessert concoctions sounded so delicious it made me wish there were recipes included in the book.
If you need a book to make you gloriously happy, don’t hesitate. This is the book for you.
And a side note: I’m just going to go find a genie so I can use one of my wishes to get a Paul book. He’s such a sweet nugget of energy and he deserves the world.
Tweet cute is an amazing romcom contemporary YA book from debut author Emma Lloyd.
Pepper and Jack are running their family businesses’ Twitter accounts; Pepper with their big chain, Big League Burger while Jack, their small family deli business. A disagreement about a possible stolen recipe begins a Twitter war where Jack is determined to take down the big burger chain.
Pepper and Jack are also high school classmates and what Pepper doesn’t know is that Jack is her anonymous internet friend. What comes next are witty and hilarious banter to swoon on.
I cannot get over what a fantastic book this is about these two high schoolers, Pepper and Jack. I absolutely fell in love with the characters. The read was definitely cute, had the right amount of swoon, great pacing and absolutely entertaining.
I highly recommend this book for a fun and cute read!
Tweet Cute is a fun and flirty romance! Filled with plenty of banter and witt, you’ll have sore cheeks from laughing so hard. This is the perfect book for fans of You’ve Got Mail or Pride and Prejudice. A wonderful debut from Emma Lord, and I can’t wait to see what else she thinks of next!
SO CUTE!!!
Again I find myself asking why I don’t read YA more often! This book was just what I needed and was the perfect reminder of why I love Young Adult Contemporary books so much! Jack and Pepper’s story made me laugh, swoon, and even get a little teary eyed.
Tweet Cute, is as much a star-crossed romance as it is a story of seniors in high school dealing with the pressures of college and family expectations. These things are presented in an extremely realistic way and I felt all the pressure and stress right along with Jack and Pepper. The addition of the massive “Twitter” war was refreshing and I love when authors bring in social media as it is such a big part of most of our lives.
I absolutely loved watching these two connect in the most unusual of circumstances and then become friends and slowly watch their feelings grow into something more. This had all of my favorite tropes packed into one: opposites attract, slow burn, and friends-to-lovers.
I am in complete shock that this is a debut novel! I absolutely can not wait for more by this author and I know I will devour her next work right up!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go eat some grilled cheese and sweets!
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
I devoured this book, and considering the story is centered around a war over grilled cheese, I find that extremely fitting. Not to mention the story is a rom-com of epic proportions and one that left me extremely satiated and happily satisfied. I promise this will be the last of the intentional food related puns and references.
Tweet Cute is adorable and impossible to put down. Emma Lord thoroughly captivates as she spins the story of two teens fighting for family and as also for what they’d like their futures to be. The story is witty and engaging and still makes me smile when I think about it months later!
I adored Pepper and Jack and could completely relate to them. Pepper’s uncertainty of life after high school and her doubts about what was happening in her family made me ache to give her a hug. And as someone whose parents owned a small business, I could understand Jack’s frustrations with his father for not wanting to innovate and fight against a larger entity threatening their existence, even if he didn’t see the looming danger. I loved seeing their interactions at school and then the tweets they exchanged were highly entertaining and humorous. Watching them grow with confidence and handle challenges both external and internal, was very rewarding.
Emma Lord’s debut is a must read for romantic comedy readers. The many pop culture references made me nostalgic as much as the food descriptions made my mouth water. Tweet Cute is brilliant and I can not wait to see what other amazing stories Emma brings us!
