Jim Butcher’s breakthrough #1 New York Times bestseller starring Chicago’s only professional wizard, Harry Dresden. When it comes to the magical ruling body known as the White Council, Harry is thought of as either a black sheep or a sacrificial lamb. And none hold him in more disdain than Morgan, a veteran Warden with a grudge against anyone who bends the rules. But now, Morgan is in trouble. … Morgan is in trouble. He’s been accused of cold-blooded murder—a crime with only one, final punishment.
He’s on the run, wanting his name cleared, and he needs someone with a knack for backing the underdog. So it’s up to Harry to uncover a traitor within the Council, keep Morgan under wraps, and avoid coming under scrutiny himself. And a single mistake may cost someone his head.
Someone like Harry…

I just love all the Harry Dresden books. As a whole series, watching Harry grow from a gawky young man to adulthood while facing foes that many of us can only imagine was GREAT! Harry wasn’t some kid who was magical and suddenly could do anything and save the world. He made a lot of mistakes along the way on his journey and saved a few lives while endangering others. His emotions were real and while they didn’t always serve him the way he wanted, they did allow things to turn out (mostly) for the good. This was an incredible series of books and I will be sorry when the last one is out and I have to say goodbye to my friend Harry and the other characters I’ve grown to know and love.
I have read the entire series and loved every one of them. The demons are “scary” without being gross. There is humor , mystery, and lots of suspense. The characters are well rounded, have idiosyncrasies, and faults. I recommend the series to all who enjoy paranormal stories and anyone who likes to read something different.
I have read all the Dresden books and love them!
htere is nothing like a book in the Dresden File serries to keep you on the edge of your seat as well as keep you laughing and empathizng with the zany cast of characters
As with any novel in the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, I find myself recommending “Turn Coat” unabashedly. It might help to have read a bit from the series prior to jumping into this one, but it can stand on its own (as long as you don’t keep asking “who is this character?” every few pages).
It is hard to portray a practicing wizard who lives in Chicago as realistic but Jim Butcher does it. Once you get through the first one or two Dresden files books you will read them all. The characters act like people should act, even though they are wizards, fairies, vampires, werewolves, etc. He writes characters that you genuinely care about and really want to know what’s going to happen in their future, plus interesting original storylines that just have me looking forward to the next book.
I love Jim Butcher. His books are well written & entertaining.
I loved Dresden as a TV show. Now I love the books. Especially, pitting Harry against his arch-enemy, who Harry being Harry, he helps anyway! Excellent read!
Life is not predictable and real life has more than one plot line Turn Coat is a reflection of that reality. I appreciate being able to step back, know that in real life there are people fighting to right wrongs, usually with mixed results—but still fighting, it’s encouraging.
Harry Dresden is my all time favorite. I love the blend of real time Chicago and wizardry. Each book builds on the previous book. I recommend you start with book 1. This is book 11. There’s a lot of back story you’ll miss if you don’t read them all.
Butcher is one of my favorite authors. His books always entertain, but his primary character has very strong morals and tries to what is right even when it extracts a heavy price. Don’t get me wrong, his books are a great read that you will regret finishing, because you want more, but his characters do have depth and are fun to watch as they run around doing things. There is great humor here also, at times laugh out loud funny. Read this book, you won’t be disappointed.
I really enjoy the world of Harry Dresden. Chicago will never be the same to me.
Morgan is on the run right to Dresden. Harry has to decide where his loyalties are. With the white wizards or against. Guess what he picks. Morgan has made dresden’s life a mess but harry still works things as he always does as a detective.
