USA Today bestselling author M.Q. Barber returns to the beginning of the Neighborly Affection series with a collection of short stories from a different perspective. Finally, readers of the Neighborly Affection series get the other side of the story…Jay Kress knows his lover is into the girl next door. As a polyamorous bisexual guy, he’s cool with that. And he’s pretty sure the gal is into … And he’s pretty sure the gal is into Henry, too, if their explosive dinner party is any clue.
But now he’ll have to tackle a submissive’s toughest job: getting his lovers to make the leap from occasional sex to the permanent triad relationship he knows they deserve. Their hearts are made for each other–and the sexual perks ain’t bad, either.
With an overcautious dominant on one side and a newcomer to the lifestyle on the other, Jay knows he has to tread lightly, but he can’t help pushing for more. Can he bring Henry and Alice together before their fear of losing each other dooms them all?
Read Tuesdays with Jay and Other Stories side by side with Playing the Game and Crossing the Lines to see the bigger picture of how Henry, Alice, and Jay found their forever love.

Tuesdays with Jay and Other Stories: A Neighborly Affection Companion by M.Q. Barber is a full length read and book 2.5 in this series.
The highly anticipated Tuesdays with Jay was previously published in the author’s newsletters, and is now re-edited, available in this wonderful companion.
In Tuesdays with Jay the story of Henry, Alice and Jay is told in Jay’s POV. There are glimpses in Henry’s gorgeous mind, his thoughts, his fears and his love for the two. In the original books, he’s a formal character, a man a bit set in his ways. In TwJ he shows his vulnerable side and I loved his character even more.
And Alice, don’t get me started with Alice, her growing in her own skin, her accepting the love she deserves and secretly craves. I love, love, love how her character developed.
On the other side is Jay , the playful jokester, the man who’s already through a lot and has the scars to prove it. He’s content in their relationship and longs for Alice’s love just like for Henry’s .
I started reading and was intrigued from the start. I read the full length book, cover to cover, in one sitting. I mean who needs sleep. I loved meeting the three, I loved the author’s beautiful words, I loved the excellent writing and most of all I loved chapter 41 – sorry not sorry, no spoileres here.
This book made me want to re-read all the other books in this series, and I did.
Henry, Alice and Jay will always have a special place in my heart.
I highly recommend the book and the series, and I wish I could give more than 5 Stars.
In a world amidst darkness, Tuesdays with Jay is the light we need!
Where to even begin with our dear boy? I’ve long since been at the top end of the list of the biggest fans of the Neighbourly Affection series and this companion novel to the first two books, as well as a sneak peek into the trio’s future, only adds to the brilliance of the series.
Jay is that perfect combination of sweet, protective, submissive and sexy. Having his POV of the lovers’ journey added a whole new dimension to the original story.
As always, the writing is superb and well researched. One of the things I love most about M. Q. Barber’s books is that I feel like I’m entering a whole new world and that over the course of the book or series, I become so comfortable and familiar that I never want to leave.
Thank you, M. Q, for another wonderful read, I cannot wait for the next instalment of the series.
I am so excited to be an advance reader of the latest book in the Neighborly Affection series “Tuesdays with Jay”. I fell in love with each of these characters years ago, reading, and re-reading the series, eagerly anticipating the next episode in the saga. This perspective from the most talkative but least represented Jay is like the icing on the perfect cake of their relationship…and my relationship with them!
Like the other books in the series, this one is steamy! Just the right amount though, balanced with excellent character creation, realistic situations and real human emotions. The insight into Jay, the adorable puppy of the trio, is everything I’ve come to expect from M.Q. Barber’s excellent wordplay and imaginative staging of both scenes and “scenes”.
I’m also so thankful that the themes of polyamory, dominance and submission, love and emotional equinamy are treated so responsibly while still making it an enjoyable and downright fun read.
This is a fantastic read, and I highly recommend it.
***Reviewed in exchange for an ARC***
I love MQ Barber’s work. I can’t think of another author who does a better job of developing real, powerful, and emotionally complex characters who love, fear and grow in her stories. I’ve read just about every word she had published prior to the publication of the Tuesdays with Jay collection. I’m just delighted that the TwJ collection and Three-Way Tie has been gathered into a single book.
No doubt, TwJ is an excellent companion to the Neighborly Affection series. It gives a whole other dimension to the story arc as Jay and his long-time partner and dom Henry woo Alice’s heart, mind, and body. These tales give insight into sweet Jay’s enthusiasm, hope and impatience for the relationship with Alice. They give “aha!” meaning and nuance to some of the subtle comments and plot points of the series. It’s like pulling back a curtain and seeing an even more beautiful view into the loving, passionate, accepting, and devoted world of Henry, Alice and Jay. Trust me, this view does not disappoint, and you’ll be glad you took the time to take it all in!
A wonderful and welcome addition to the Neighborly Affection series. This is one of my favorite series and the awesome little bites contained within this book add to the richness of the BDSM MMF love story told in the books. I keep up to date via M.Q. Barber’s Tuesdays with Jay newsletters because I am always thirsty for another look into the lives of Jay, Henry, and Alice, but it’s so great to have them collected here, clearly marked with which book and chapter they belong. There is a bit of brand new as well and the look into the future was really satisfying. (I still want more, more, more!) This is a must for any fan of the series. I loved it.
I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reader copy of this book.
I’m always curious with series to discover if the books work as stand alone pieces or not. Not that it’s necessary, but it just interests me to know. This one, of course, does not. But why would it?
As a true companion to the Neighborly Affection series, it is a joy to read alongside the original books. I had already read the rest of the series, but I allotted time for a re-read with this one, and I’m so glad I did. This book just adds a tremendous amount of depth to the storyline. Jay’s take on the events that transpire as their relationship grows is an entertaining and emotional counter to Alice’s. His internal monologue is, at times, both amusing and heartbreaking. This added narrative also provides vital clues into how Henry’s mind works–the breadth of which we don’t otherwise fully understand until book four.
I have to say, despite having read nearly all of these entries from the newsletter, I do envy new readers to this series, for their ability to add these little snippets into their first time reading experience. And I cannot wait for this story to continue.

I’m not quite sure how I discovered M.Q. Barber and her stories but I can tell you I’ve been amazed by her stories ever since. This book concentrates on Jay, the best character, in my opinion. We’ve gotten to know Jay in previous books and know some of his past. But this book, this book is mainly his thoughts, his wants, his desires, and his fears.
Ms Barber does an amazing job of pulling us into her characters minds and really making us understand what they’re thinking, why they’re thinking that, and where they want their story to go. She makes us care about them, as individuals and as a romantic unit. Ms Barber has become an automatic one-click for me.
Ah, but how I loved revisiting these Tuesday quickies with Jay, Henry, and Alice! And yes, I read Tuesdays with Jay and Other Stories in a Tuesday because reading it on any other day would have felt wrong. Originally published through M.Q. Barber’s newsletter, the author has gathered together these snippets of Jay’s Tuesdays to make for the perfect accompaniment to her Neighborly Affection series, which remains one of my personal favorites. Re-reading the collection had me smiling while reminiscing on the journey the this throuple (a word I hadn’t even known back when I’d originally read the series a few years ago) went through. Having Jay’s voice heard and shared allows fans and readers of the series to have a more complete picture of this trio’s love story. It goes without saying that this book must be read after the first two Neighborly Affection novels. Tuesdays with Jay and Other Stories is a must-read for anyone and everyone who has fallen in love with this series and this throuple. Five stars.
If you haven’t read the A Neighborly Affections Series. YOU NEED TO! My all time favorite series with the most amazing characters. Their development emotionally is amazing. This book ties it all together. To learn the ins and outs of what the characters are thinking during certain timelines that relate to the other books. I love love love this book and the others. You won’t pry these books out of my hands. Reading the years later on in the relationship brought a sense of completion, because you find out how the relationship will evolve to the most amazing thing ever.
I found this book to be positively endearing. Having previously read the Neighborly Affection series, I had already long ago fallen in love with the character of Jay. Of my long list of book boyfriends, Jay easily commands the top spot. Jay is the embodiment of goodness, purity, and love all wrapped up in a super sexy submissive package. The man is all heart. This glimpse into the inner workings of Jay’s mind only serves to underscore that fact. The reader can’t help but be completely drawn in by his vulnerability and openness. You just want to throw your arms around him and never let go. It is impossible to read this without it hitting you squarely in the feels. Like, ALL the feels. Jay, Henry, and Alice form the trio at the heart of the Neighborly Affection series, and their relationship—artfully chronicled through Jay’s eyes in this book—beautifully demonstrates the transformative power of love without boundaries. M.Q. Barber delivers superb writing and characters you can’t help but welcome into your heart. I honestly could not recommend this book more highly. Read this book. Read the Neighborly Affection series. You will not be disappointed, and you just might get a new book boyfriend out of the deal… but you’ll definitely have to share Jay with me.
* I was given an ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review. All of my opinions are honest and entirely my own.
I’m so glad that MQ Barber decided to release this as a book. I found these books a few years ago, but I missed quite a few Tuesday’s With Jay. I loved going back and getting Jay’s perspective and was pleasantly surprised to get to see Henry’s perspective as well.
The series as a whole is well written and each character has an individual voice and is multi dimensional. Especially since reading Tuesday’s with Jay it makes me wish there had been more than Alices point of view in the books, but I still enjoy the series.
I hope the series continues I love watching Henry, Jay, and Alice grow and getting a peek into Will and Emma.
I have loved this series, and have been hooked from the very first book. This is an amazing addition to the series because it gives a new perspective on the building of the relationship between Henry, Jay, and Alice. In Playing the Game and Crossing the Lines you get to see the relationship from Alice’s point of view, and even get a sense of Henry’s motivations by his actions, but Jay appears to be following their lead. In Tuesdays With Jay you get to see the true importance of Jay’s role in building and advancing the relationship and how fragile it actually is in the beginning. I love that this book gives you more of not just Jay, but some more depth of Henry’s motivations and actions and insecurities. I love Jay’s carefree character in the books, he is happy and always willing to please, but here we get to see the deeper side of his character, the insecure, vulnerable side and the things that contributed to his character. We also get the independent side of Jay, the side that wants to defy Henry, but only to actually please him.
This is a must-read for any fan of the series, and if not a fan yet you will be. You should definitely read the first two books before or in tandem with this book, I like how the author references the adjacent scenes from the books to the companion so you can read them together or go back to the books and refresh yourself with the lead-ups and afterward of each Tuesday.
The bonus is you get the free short story Three-Way Tie.
This book is a compilation of shorts from Jay’s perspective throughout books 1 & 2 of the Neighborly Affection series. While not necessary, it is recommended to read these shorts as you are reading the first two books. The main portion of the books are from Alice’s POV, reading Jay’s POV was refreshing. Tuesdays with Jay gives us a deeper insight into Jay; his thoughts, wants, desires, and growth. We also get some of Henry’s thoughts and a peek into the trio’s future.
This series has well written characters that you can’t help falling in love with and rooting for. I’m looking forward to the next installment.
I was gifted with an ARC by the author and I gladly share my review.
As a companion to her previously written books with Henry, Alice and Jay it tells what was going on behind the scenes, so to speak. If you haven’t read the Neighbor series, I would recommend them for their depth of characters and recommend this for its addition to the whole.
This is a companion novella to the Neighborly Affection series by MQ Barber. If you haven’t read the series, you should! It is hands-down the best written ménage book series. Tuesdays with Jay and Other Stories: A Neighborly Affection Companion contains short stories that provide beautiful snippets into Jay’s point of view from his lunches with Alice as well as some interesting backstory to questions readers may have from the series. Ms. Barber has a beautiful literary voice which brings each character’s personality so vividly to life that they feel very realistic. I have the entire series and have read it so many times, I’ve probably memorized it! This novella should definitely be read after the Neighborly Affections series to get it’s maximum value. I received this novella free as an ARC copy.
With so many lousy depictions of BDSM out there in pop culture, I was delighted when I finally, after a long and mostly fruitless search, discovered the Neighborly Affection series. An accurate depiction of a loving, responsible D/s relationship? Yes please! While sometimes frustrated by Alice’s difficulty committing to Jay and Henry, I never lost interest in their journey. Then, too I enjoyed getting a glimpse into Henry’s head in Becoming His Master. So I was delighted to sit down with Tuesdays with Jay and get a chance to see things from Jay’s perspective.
Tuesdays with Jay did not disappoint. It has all the deep characterization, detailed plot, and exquisite pacing I’ve come to expect from Barber’s work. The story “Woman Trouble” was particularly lovely and poignant. And yes, the sex scenes are well-written and extremely hot. These stories are much more than “just” erotic fiction, but to be clear, they are also very good erotic fiction.
One word of warning–I would strongly recommend reading the Neighborly Affection series first. The stories in Tuesdays with Jay are heavily interconnected with the early books in the series, and I think it would be hard to follow without having read the earlier books. That being said, if you liked the Neighborly Affection books, you will definitely enjoy Tuesdays with Jay!
I loved reading this we got inside of Jays mind and learned how much he really wanted Alice to be with him and Henry …. He loved their Friday nights but he wanted to have Alice with them all the time….. We also see a different side of Henry which I loved ….. I am so happy that the author is continuing the Henry,Jay and Alice story and cant wait to read more
So my absolute favorite series, most re-read, have the paperbacks on my shelf is Neighborly Affections. I adore Henry, Jay, and Alice and was sad when their journey looked like it was ending so when I heard that M.Q. Barber was putting out her “Tuesdays with Jay”, a series of short Jay POVs that are included with her newsletters, monthly, I was so excited. I hadn’t gotten all of them (I came in after they started and my email sometimes sent them to spam so I missed a few) so having them all in one place with some added content made me a happy girl.
If you haven’t read the Neighborly Affections Series, these have to be read first. Tuesdays with Jay, named for Alice’s Tuesday lunches with him, is Jay’s point of view and thoughts on his and Henry’s time with Alice, along with his fears, dreams, and wants for the future with her. They give a “fly on the wall” perspective to the scenes within the other books, making them even more vivid. Jay, being the more effusive of the two men, gives the reader heartfelt commentary on the progression of the relationship, laughs when you get his inner thoughts during lunches, and his private interactions with Henry allow a peek into their world that you don’t get to experience since Alice is the storyteller in the other books. This is a perfect addition to the trio’s story.
Fantastic book! If you have read M.Q. Barber’s Neighborly Affection stories then you’re probably as in love with Jay as I am. He and his fellow submissive/part time dominate Alice are in a relationship with Henry, (who I’m really in love with!), meet every Tuesday for lunch. These are from his point of view & give us insight to the relationship. It was great seeing a peak behind the curtain of what Jay was thinking & how he strengthened them all.
Wonderful as usual!
