Teddy King excels at many things. Playing hockey. Check. Scoring on and off the ice. Check. Being stupidly attractive … Double check. I knew him way back when. Before he was the guy everyone wanted a piece of, he was just a rebellious college co-ed and one of my more energetic study partners. But secrets have a way of getting out, and a steamy encounter from our college days (that we probably … encounter from our college days (that we probably shouldn’t have filmed) is about to cause a major scandal. Unless we can work together to stop it.
Teddy’s no stranger to hard work … but the thing he wants most?
Is me.
Note: This high-heat standalone is chock-full of scorching banter and steamy good times. He’s a testosterone-dripping hockey player who wants a second chance. She’s a tough as nails attorney intent on making partner. Loads of sexy banter! No cliffhanger. Enjoy!
Your favorite hot jocks are back with an all new stand-alone novel. If you like sexy, confident men who know how to handle a stick (on and off the ice), and smart women who are strong enough to keep all those big egos in check, this series is perfect for you!

There is so much to say about this book….the chemistry, the respect, the love, the emotions, the history. Teddy and Sarah had some fun in college and thought no one would ever find out. Years later, someone is out to get Teddy and he turns to Sarah for help. Their chemistry, their banter is the best I have read in awhile. I’m not a big fan of “hockey romance” but these book is amazing and so much more fun and witty then I would have thought. Now granted I have loved this whole series, this one is by far my favorite yet!!
I think Sarah and Teddy are my favorite couple so far. Their dynamic is crazy. They have history that known of their friends know about so they just think they butt heads but don’t realize what is really beneath it all.
Their chemistry is off the charts hot and their banter will have you laughing.
Sarah and Teddy are willing to do whatever they need to do to help prevent their secret from coming out in the worst way possible, even if that means lying to the rest of the group.
What happens when a lie becomes truth and two people have to face that truth? A great story with great characters that you will love.
Love this group of friends and cannot wait for the next book.
The Hot Jocks series by author Kendall Ryan just keeps getting better, book by book. And, while I thoroughly enjoyed the first two stories, I think that TRYING TO SCORE might just be my favorite installment yet.
Second-chance romances sometimes start out sticky or angsty, but, apart from the ‘oh, heck’ situation that truly brings Teddy and Sara back together, these two really just segué back into more than friends so very easily. I really appreciate that Teddy sees what a strongly self-sufficient and independent woman Sara is, and that he admires her all the more. And that Sara enjoys Teddy for who he is, whether it’s hockey star, goofball, or the sexy friend with benefits that she knew way back when. Kendall has done a nice job of bringing their relationship full circle, writing a story that is both sexy and feel-good.
Although this is the third book in a series, it is a total standalone, and can be read as such. But I think that you’ll love Sara and Teddy so much, that you’ll want to read about their friends, too. Go forth and click!
My grandmother used to say, “what’s done in the dark will come to the light.” Ha! Well, rest assured, Teddy and Sara are about to find out!
Teddy, that hockey dude! You know the one that slides the puck across the ice, Sara, that takes no prisoner’s attorney. The one that also happens to be one of his best friends. Well long ago in another land and life . . . stuff happened. Guess what? That darkness is about to come to the light.
Oh, the laughter, the heat, the angst, and the fun you are about to embark on as they try to keep the dark hidden while living in the light!
5 The Past Brings Them Back Together Stars!!
I’m so in love with this series by Ms. Ryan! These books are sexy, hot and romantic. They also have characters that I can’t help but fall in love with. In this third book we have the second chance romance of TK and Sara. They’ve been friends for much longer than their group of friends knows about and before they became “just” friends they made a tape neither thought would be seen by anyone let alone the world in general!
I absolutely loved these two so much. While they’re friends and not lovers, there’s still a draw to each other and when they start spending time together to stop the release of their night of everything hot and sexy, it becomes clear to each of them that there’s something bubbling right beneath the surface.
This book is full of swoon-worthy moments along with so much steaminess I was falling all over myself to finish it because I so wanted these two to get their HEA! Ms. Ryan has written book that is engaging, funny, sassy and flirty and a definite must read!
It’s never a dull moment with these hockey players and Teddy and Sara weren’t the exception. No one expected these two to get together but what no one knew was that they had a past. When their past resurfaces they try for it not to be known but things tend to get out of their hands. One thing for sure they will protect each other at all cost. When pretending eventually turns real there’s no hold bars. Teddy and Sara were sizzling and I love how much he respected and admired what she did. Sara was a very supportive girlfriend and they were awesome together.
4 1/2 STARS!
With book three in her ever-steamy Hot Jocks series, Kendall Ryan brings us TRYING TO SCORE centering around Teddy and Sara. A playboy pro hockey player takes on his college love turned legal shark when secrets from the past come back to haunt them in this fun reunion story!
Sara has got it going on with a strong handle on her career and no need for a man to complete her, but watching her crumble when she’s near Teddy and remembering their time together years ago is pretty sweet.
Teddy of course has the over inflated ego that comes with the territory of being a pro athlete, but when his concern and despair for Sara comes out over a screw up he made that has put her in jeopardy, he endears himself in a reader’s heart … even if he did a jerky thing!
Really enjoyed this story and the series as a whole. I recommend it to anyone loving a fast paced, highly entertaining story filled with sexy romance, laughs and goodhearted people.
Oh my gosh what can I say, I just love Kendall Ryan’s books. They are funny, sweet and swoon worthy. The hook you at chapter 1 and keep you entertained right up to the end. Certainly a fun and sexy read.
Kendall you never disappoint. I LOVED Sara and Teddy’s second chance. This story is jam packed with all the feels. Meeting in college and have a FWB relationship Teddy and Sara were just perfect but when Sara returns after summer break with a new BF Teddy discovers that maybe what he was feeling wasn’t mutual. As the years go on they belong to the same friend group but never reveal how close they both once were. When someone threatens to release a not so tasteful video of him and Sara these two join forces to make sure neither of their careers get ruined.
Overall Grade:
I have fallen hard for Kendall Ryan’s Hot Jocks series. This is a series of standalones that follow various players on a professional hockey team. Each book has presented a hot hockey player and some type of romantic trope: forbidden best friend’s sister and friends-to-lovers.
With her newest book, Trying to Score, Ryan offers the story of Teddy and Sara. Teddy and Sara meet in college, spend a semester hooking up, and go their separate ways after a summer apart. Unfortunately, during their time together, they make a $ex video. Teddy tells Sara that he deleted it, but he hides it in his cloud. This, unfortunately, comes back to cause them problems. Fast forward many years, Teddy and Sara are good friends, along with their other hockey player friends. Teddy has always held a bit of a torch for Sara, but the timing and pursuit of career have always been their issue. When a hacker emails Teddy threatening him with releasing their video, Teddy seeks Sara’s guidance in stopping the release of the video. Acting as his lawyer, she tries to remedy the situation; however, she makes no progress. Instead, the PR person for Teddy’s hockey team suggests that Sara and Teddy pretend to date in case the video is released. Teddy and Sara agree to this arrangement and realize fairly quickly that long ago feelings rise to the surface. Do Sara and Teddy have a future together or will pretending to date be their only future?
This romance is a second chance at love story. Teddy and Sara have remained friends, but long-dormant feelings arise again. In fact, in this story, they come back strong. I was fairly surprised by this story. With the first two books in the series, there was quite a bit of angst and tension between the heroes and heroines. In both of those books, my heart hurt for the characters as they struggled to find their futures together. However, Teddy and Sara’s story feels innocuous in comparison. Their potential trials are their pretend relationship and its place in reality, Teddy’s possible move to another team, and Sara’s potential for making partner. Yet, these moments never seem overwhelming or sad. After the first two books of this series stealing little pieces of my heart, I didn’t feel the same connection with these two, and I’ve seen Teddy and Sara’s chemistry all along. I was hoping for more from these two.
Instead, you should know that Teddy and Sara are equal parts sweet and sensual. Their story is an easier read than the first two books of the series. I appreciated Teddy more. In earlier books, he seemed commitment-phobic, but he seems more invested in their connection initially than Sara. He’s respectful and supportive of her, and he reads much different than the prior books. I liked Teddy, and I liked Sara. I just didn’t feel as much for Trying to Score as I did for the first two books.
Kendall Ryan has this way of offering us insightful stories of romance. You typically fall hard for her heroes and heroines, and I think Teddy and Sara’s story, Trying to Score, provides more dimension to this series. I will say that it isn’t my favorite of the three, but I would definitely recommend you read it, especially if you’re a Kendall Ryan fan like me.
He doesn’t just try to score….he does score
I absolutely devoured this book and loved everything about Teddy and Sara, especially their history which was very hush hush
Teddy and Sara are enjoying an evening with friends at a charity event when Sara notices that Teddy is a little more tense than normal. When she approaches him, he asks her to step out with him to have a chat. It quickly known that Teddy is being blackmailed. Turns out the blackmailer wants to release a sex tape which starts Teddy and his co-star is *drum roll* Sara….gasp
Fabulous story and I’m already wishing Bailey’s story was here
Teddy and Sara are book 3 in the Smart Jocks series. These two had a fling during college. Now Sara’s a hot shot attorney hoping for a partnership in her firm. Teddy is a hockey player looking for a new team, new deals, more money… you get the drill. They are both on the upswing of their life, on the cusp of greatness.
However, someone hacked in and stole a homemade video they made during their fling. Can you even imagine how terrifying that would be! Also, do people make homemade videos with just flings?!?!? I could have some homemade videos out there as well but you can bet your very last quarter that it would never be created with a fling. Homemade videos are something you make when you’re married or nearing marriage. I have a hard time believing a college student, intelligent college students would make a video with a fling. This is really my only issue. It just doesn’t feel like real like to me or perhaps I’m sheltered and ignorant but it miffed me bit.
Besides all of that, I found them to be pretty darn adorable together. They seemed seriously smitten. They didn’t need to fake a relationship because the magnetic pull these two was unstoppable. I love when an author mixes some great genres like Kendall Ryan did with Trying to Score. She mixed two of my favorites… friends to lovers and a second chance romance. Ryan packed it full of her signature heat and heart and it’s one of her sweetest Smart Jock books Ryan has written so far! Can’t wait for book 4!!!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
More hockey hotties? Yes, please!
I love books about sexy hockey hunks, and Teddy certainly fits the bill. This guy will make you swoon. Not only is he funny, but he has a playful personality and the best heart to go with it. He’s a genuinely good guy with a sweet side you wouldn’t expect. But this man has a naughty streak that lurks underneath that “good boy” facade, and it’s a streak you’re certainly going to enjoy.
Sara is a force to be reckoned with. She’s headstrong, determined, knows what she wants out of life and isn’t afraid to go after it. But there’s more to her than just being a workaholic. She’s funny, a great friend, and never one to let Teddy get away with much. And though she may think she has ironclad willpower where Teddy is concerned, the man is irresistible.
These two seem like they’d mix as well as oil and water but they’re so good together. With fun banter and plenty of steamy heat, it’s easy to see the chemistry brewing between them. This is definitely another light-hearted and fun addition to the Hot Jocks series. I can’t wait to read more from this team!
Teddy and Sara were the best of friends, but also with benefits in college. After that first year they were never single at the same time, but remained friends. Now, as adults, they have the same circle of friends, but have never let it out that they were a thing in college. And most of their friends, truly believe that the two hate each other.
One night in college…..a sex tape was made. Now, all these years later, Teddy’s account gets hacked and the video gets out. The head of PR for the team believes the best thing for them to do is to pretend to be a couple….get ahead of it.
Can the two keep a purely platonic relationship? What happens when it’s all old news and Teddy’s contract is finalized? Will the two realize that after all these years, their flame still burns?
Trying to Score is the third book in Kendall’s Hot Jocks series. Teddy and Sara’s book is here!!! You guys, have you read books one and two?? If so, go read book three NOW! If you haven’t read any of Kendall Ryan’s books yet, start with the Hot Jocks series. Playing for Keeps is the first in the series, but each book is a standalone novel with no cliffhangers. So, feel free to start here with Trying to Score.
Teddy is a rugged hot hockey placer for the Seattle Hawks. Sara is a lawyer, but don’t let that fool you she is hot. Teddy and Sarah together make sparks fly! I physically swooned a few times at the banter between these two. A fake relationship, and friends to lovers trope done only how Kendall Ryan can! Each story Kendall tells gets better and better. The Hot Jocks Series is by far one of my favorites. You won’t regret reading this hot novel!
Coming Soon: Hot Jocks Book 4- Crossing the Line releases on January 20, 2020
I really enjoyed this book from Kendall Ryan! I was very quickly sucked into Teddy and Sara’s friendship. They had a unique relationship. And over the years they had become good friends. Well, college seemed to bite them in the butt and that caused them to have to spend more time together. But the chemistry between these two was hotter than hot and the ease they had with each other made the time they had to spend together not a chore. They seemed to slip into the roles and I was consumed with their journey. This book had ALL THE FEELS and made me not want to do anything but read! I adored this couple and this story! If you like a good, steamy, sweet love story, then look no further. This is your book!
A sweet but yet scorching hot friends to lover 4 star story.
Teddy, an hockey player shares a past with attorney, Sara. This said past is coming back to haunt them. Now they must get together to stop it.
It was a low key sweet romantic story that had chemistry. It was light and funny at times. A quick read.
Although it’s part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. Told in a dual POV with an HEA. I recommend this story.
Teddy is a star player on the hockey team. Sara is an up and coming lawyer. When Teddy has a video that is threatened to be released he counts on Sara’s help to stop the blackmailer.
Super steamy second chance romance. Third book in the series, while technically a stand alone it is best read in order. The series is wonderful. Teddy is sweet and alpha at the same time. Sara is driven yet vulnerable. A great romance and a great series!!
Love love love Kendall Ryan books! They always have the best characters who have tons of chemistry and a guaranteed HEA! Not to mention loads of steamy scenes! This hockey series is great!
Kendall Ryan has always been a one click author to me, but I really think the Hot Jocks series is my favorite of hers so far. And of the 3 stand-alone books in the series Trying to Score is definitely my favorite. Sara and Teddy’s story is a friends to lovers book with all the feels. Definitely a must read!!
