Teddy King excels at many things. Playing hockey. Check. Scoring on and off the ice. Check. Being stupidly attractive … Double check. I knew him way back when. Before he was the guy everyone wanted a piece of, he was just a rebellious college co-ed and one of my more energetic study partners. But secrets have a way of getting out, and a steamy encounter from our college days (that we probably … encounter from our college days (that we probably shouldn’t have filmed) is about to cause a major scandal. Unless we can work together to stop it.
Teddy’s no stranger to hard work … but the thing he wants most?
Is me.
Note: This high-heat standalone is chock-full of scorching banter and steamy good times. He’s a testosterone-dripping hockey player who wants a second chance. She’s a tough as nails attorney intent on making partner. Loads of sexy banter! No cliffhanger. Enjoy!
Your favorite hot jocks are back with an all new stand-alone novel. If you like sexy, confident men who know how to handle a stick (on and off the ice), and smart women who are strong enough to keep all those big egos in check, this series is perfect for you!

I swear this is Kendall’s best series…EVER!!!
Teddy and Sara’s story was just so great. I loved that they were friends and and hook ups in college. They played a game once they hit the real world. Wanting each other but knowing it can’t happen because someone was in a relationship.
Now a real problem has come up and what starts ioff as pretend turns into something just awesome. and let’s say Kendall as done it again!!!
I love hockey romances, and when Kendall Ryan announced the Hot Jocks series, I was so excited. I loved the first book, Playing for Keeps, a hybrid romance blending the friends-to-lovers and best friend’s little sister tropes. All the Way, the second standalone in this series, absolutely stole my heart. While not the lighthearted sports romance readers may have been expecting, it was a beautiful, moving love story, and Kendall broke my heart with that emotional story before she painstakingly pieced it back together. I’ve been a big fan of Kendall Ryan’s writing for years. Sassy, sexy, easy-reading contemporaries and romantic comedies are among my favorite things to read, and Kendall’s always find their way to the top of my list.
Kendall has been killing it with the Hot Jocks series—each book has been better than the last. Trying to Score is a blend of several tropes, and Ryan swirled the frenemies-to-lovers, fake relationship and second-chance romance tropes together masterfully. Pairing pro hockey player, Teddy King, and attorney, Sara Dawson, she matches two opposites in a surprisingly sweet, sexy romance. Teddy has had the whole playboy thing going on for most of the series, and Sara has been focused on her career and clawing her way to partner. What the unlikely duo hasn’t told anyone before is that they weren’t just study buddies in college, they had a casual, friends with benefits relationship that resulted in a sex tape. While they’ve kept their brief relationship a secret from their friends, they’re forced to work together to deal with the consequences of their actions, and the closeness they once shared comings roaring back to life.
I couldn’t get enough of their witty back-and-forth banter and how easily their relationship shifted. Teddy had been kind of the goof-ball of their group, but there was so much more to him and it really took me by surprise. Their chemistry has never been an issue, but it really explodes here in the best possible way. Teddy has always wanted more with Sara, and now that he has this chance, he’s not squandering it. I loved how comfortable and effortless their relationship was, but Teddy was so sweet and swoon-worthy, I couldn’t help but root for them the whole way.
Trying to Score was a fantastic addition to Kendall Ryan’s hockey-themed sports romance series. Full of sizzling chemistry, Teddy and Sara’s sweet friends-to-lovers romance was addictive, and I devoured it in a day. Trying to Score by Kendall Ryan gets 5 smooches from me!

Oh lawd….. I’m loving the Hot Jocks series and each book gets better and hotter! Trying to Score is the story of Teddy the sexy as sin hockey player and Sara the sassy, lawyer trying to make partner. What happens when their secret from college comes back to haunt them? They become the next IT couple but when that fake relationship has real feelings things take an unexpected turn. This story was full of witty banter, explosive chemistry and so many swoon-worthy moments I inhaled every page faster than the next! If you haven’t had the privilege of reading this series yet I highly recommend you start NOW!
Fabulous.
Kendall Ryan just keeps getting better and better with these stories about this Hockey team and their players.
Teddy King and Sara is a second chance romance.
They had dated briefly in college and experimented sexually back then and well their shenanigans comes to bite them in the ass..When there is a blackmail threat to Teddy that a sex tape will be leaked if he doesn’t send them X amount of dollars.
So Sara being a Lawyer has to convene with Teddy to stop the threat …So inevitably spending time together brings back memories of the past and how good they were together. This unearths unexpected feelings as they both get caught up in a sex scandal and emotions about one another that they are unsure how to deal with.
I am loving this series so much.
I cannot say anything critical about any of this series I Am loving all the characters and their budding romances.Teddy and Sara’s story is no different I LOVED IT.
Highly Recommend it.
5 Stars
I love sports romances and friends to lovers and this book has plenty of action to keep you entertained! Book three of the Hot Jocks series features Sara Dawson, an attorney, and Teddy King, a professional hockey player. They had a relationship in college, share the same group of friends, and need each other because of a personal blackmail situation that involves them both now as adults.
I love how easily they got along, and how their undeniable attraction was just as strong as it ever was. Super hot! I love their witty banter and how loyal and protective they are of each other, especially since both of their professional careers are at risk.
They “fake” date as part of a PR ploy in case their secret gets out, but they’re really not pretending. All of their feelings are genuine and continue to grow chapter after chapter.
Kendall Ryan is a true romantic at heart because this book has all the feels! There is great character development along with witty dialogue, steamy sexy times, hockey action, and a mystery. I only wish the mystery part of the story was resolved as we still don’t know who stole and uploaded their private video. I really loved Sarah and Teddy together, and was thrilled that Owen and Becca, and Justin and Elise from the previous books were also featured.
Hot Jocks Book #3 This time up its Teddy (hawks hockey) and Sara (high power lawyer). From the outside looking in you’d never think there is anything between Teddy and Sara. Just two people in a group of friends who like to bicker, trade barbs ect. There friends don’t know of there past connection until the past comes back to haunt them.
This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased, honest opinion.
I had a lot of fun reading this book! I actually finished this in two days which is not the norm for me by any means. It just flowed so well and I was really into the characters and storyline. Teddy King aka TK was another amazing hockey player added to this series. He had me swooning sooo hard. I loved how thoughtful he was. Sara Dawson was this hotshot lawyer working her tail off to become partner at her law firm. It was awesome to see this kick butt female tackling all her goals! TK and Sara were quite similar in a lot of ways. They were very career driven and their work ethic was off the charts. They were also super humble and down to earth which makes for the best characters.
The friendship in this series was another positive for me. I love seeing them all get together and be there for one another. They celebrate together but also come together and are there for one another at a moment’s notice. Friendship goals for sure!
Now, Sara and TK have a history. They went to college together and had casual hookups during one point. I really loved this second chance romance layout. It seemed to never be the right time for these two but they were destined to find one another eventually.
Overall, I swooned over this story. The steamy scenes were ridiculously hot as well! I can’t get enough of this series!
Teddy and Sara used to be friends with benefits their junior year of college where they decided it would be a good idea to make a sex tape. Two days later Sara panicked and asked Teddy to delete it. He promised he would and . . . well he lied. He didn’t delete it and years someone hacked into his cloud, stole the sex tape and is blackmailing him. So he hires the best lawyer he knows to help out of this mess, Sara, his partner in the sex tape. The head of public relations for Teddy’s hockey team thinks the best way to deal with this scandal should the tape get out is if they are a couple so they need to pretend to be in a relationship for the foreseeable future.
So much going on to get to the good stuff. I am usually not a fan of the fake relationship trope because it seems like a never ending loop of I want them but they think it’s fake inner dialogue on both sides and I can’t handle that. But this one was a quick and fun read that didn’t seem to drag on and on. I loved their banter – that there was already the familiarity between them and the chemistry wasn’t awkward because they already knew they had it in spades. Enjoyed the book but wasn’t really memorable for me. I still would recommend this book.
An enjoyable steamy hockey romance. Sara and Teddy met in college and had a fling. They stupidly videotaped an encounter, that Teddy insisted he deleted (he didn’t). Now years later, Sara is trying to make partner in her law firm, and Teddy’s NHL contract is up for renegotiation, when Teddy gets a note from a blackmailer that he is going to release the video. The Team PR person suggests they fake a relationship so if the video comes out, it will soften the fallout. Of course, the relationship doesn’t stay fake for long. I loved both Teddy and Sara and their second chance romance.
This review is really short, but I can’t help it. I looked forward to reading more of this series and this book did disappoint.
I loved TK & Sara’s relationship and how they are kinda getting a second chance at things, but this story had no real climax to it. I was getting closer and closer to the end of the Book and I kept expecting some major climax to happen before the HEA but it never came. One minute you think crap is going to hit the fan but it doesn’t and then you are actually reading the ending chapter and it’s over.
One of the best parts about reading novels is the climax before HEA and this just was non-existent.
Definitely disappointed in this book because it never really built up but just kind of stayed platonic. Here’s to hoping the next one is better.
I am truly loving this series from Kendall Ryan but I must say Sarah and TK are my favorites at the moment. These two have been friends for years. Always giving as good as they get. Their relationship has just been that easy.
Sure there was that college hookup that later solidified their choice to keep things in the friend zone. But they can’t deny that there has always been an underlying attraction. Their past hook up has remained between them. But some things don’t always stay where we want them to and their secret may just become public knowledge.
In dealing with this matter we see Sarah and TK’s relationship in a different light. Should these to give into the chemistry again and see where things go? Is it worth the risk to their friendship?
Go grab your copy of Trying to Score and see for yourself
Loved that they were friends and lovers.
I love these hockey stories/players. Teddy is now my all time favorite. The relationship between Sara and Teddy was epic.
A little different story base, sex tape from college. A must read if you’re reading this series. Characters are all fun, quirks but entertaining. Gives hockey a different twist.
Holy chemistry, Batman. Kendall Ryan’s latest novel in her Hot Jocks series has chemistry in spades. In ‘Trying to Score’ we get to know Teddy and Sara a whole lot better. Not only did they have a super steamy fling back in their college days, they also have a sex tape. When someone hacks into Teddy’s cloud and procures said sex tape, Teddy (now a professional hockey player) and Sara (a successful lawyer) reunite to stop it from going public. And, in the meantime, they rekindle their scorchingly hot romance.
While you can read this as a standalone, I highly suggest reading the previous two novels in the series before this one. (Because they’re both amazing too.) I think ‘Trying to Score’ might be my new favorite in the series, because Teddy and Sara are absolute FIRE together. I think they’re now on my list of all-time favorite heroes/heroines because they’re that good together. This novel is filled with steamy sexy times, plenty of witty banter, and a whole lot of fun. If you haven’t read anything by Kendall Ryan before, you should remedy that immediately.
Sensual, sassy, and seductive!
Trying to Score is a playful, second-chance romance that features the lively, intelligent Sara who’s content to be single and completely focused on making partner, and the cocky, hard-bodied Teddy who’s unfortunately become embroiled in a scandal and in need of some lawyerly advice from an old flame.
The writing is witty and smooth. The characters are charismatic, amusing, and endearing. And the plot told from alternating POVs is a lighthearted, funny tale filled with tricky situations, sizzling tension, sexual innuendoes, blistering chemistry, flirty banter, friendship, and steamy romance.
Overall, Trying to Score is another sweet, humorous, sexy read by Ryan with characters you can’t help but fall in love with and a happy-ever-after ending that will make you swoon.
Love Kendall Ryan books this is one is great
Book 3 in the Hot Jocks series is another hit for Kendall Ryan making you want more of these men. I loved that Kendall Ryan and this series never disappoints and best part is that is not just about Teddy and Sarah. It may have started as a man wanting to keep something personal a secret but seeing Sarah again changes all his feelings of what they had years ago. Loved that he is a man who will do anything to protect his woman and just wow with their chemistry together. Kendall not just shows us these two but we see the whole gang and their happily ever afters this far, loved it. Cannot wait to see more of this series and what this talented author can bring to their readers heart.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
Trying to Score is a great addition to the already amazing series!
This is a somewhat different review for me as I read the book and listened to it on Audible! I loved both editions!
I have always been curious about Teddy and Sara. They have had a sizzling chemistry that is always just beneath the surface. However, I had no clue that these two knew each other years before and that explosive chemistry they share is nothing new!
I have loved all the guys in the series, and I really like how Ryan always makes each one of them unique. I end up loving something different about each guy! I fell for Teddy’s sweetness. Yes, he is gorgeous, but it was his sweetness that totally stole my heart.
I loved Sara as well. On the surface, her sweetness doesn’t always shine through, but she has a wonderful heart. She is loyal to her friends and those that she loves. She is independent and fierce. I admired her determination and how hard she worked to achieve her goals.
I thoroughly relished the flashbacks of these two in college and seeing how much they have changed since those days. My heart just melted watching these two fall back in love.
I loved reading the book, but I loved the Audible edition even more. Jason Clarke and Savannah Peachwood really brought Teddy and Sara to life. They made a 6 hour drive fly by for me. They truly captured the essence of both characters.
I have long been a fan of Kendall Ryan. I fell in love with her style of writing and characters from the very first word I ever read from her. She taps into my emotions, yet gives me lots of laughs as well. She knows how to combine humor, romance, steam, and sweetness just perfectly!
There’s a lot to love about second chance romances, and Trying to Score was the perfect story to showcase it all.
Teddy and Sara’s story was wonderful. From their chemistry and history, and to their current ‘predicament’, their relationship together screamed passion. With the elements of a fake relationship that’s clearly founded on true, heartfelt feelings, and the added potential of a salacious scandal, their dynamic was effortless, but not without a little bit of drama.
This was a fun and sexy quick read. The steam and flirty banter makes this book very enjoyable. The author’s writing is once again top-notch, matching the flow and progression of the story line flawlessly. The Hot Jocks series is an entertaining, one-click series that gets your heart racing with anticipation for what’s still to come.
