Try – verb: to make an attempt or effort to do something or in this case…someone.
Sex. Logan Mitchell loves it, and ever since he realized his raw sexual appeal at a young age, he has had no problem using it to his advantage. Men and women alike fall into his bed—after all, Logan is not one to discriminate. He lives by one motto—if something interests you, why not just take a chance and try?
… and try?
And he wants to try Tate Morrison.
Just coming out of a four-year marriage with an ex-wife from hell, a relationship is the last thing on Tate’s mind. He’s starting fresh and trying to get back on his feet with a new job at an upscale bar in downtown Chicago.
The only problem is, Tate has caught the unwavering and unwelcome attention of Mr. Logan Mitchell – a regular at the bar and a man who always gets what he wants.
Night after night Tate fends off the persistent advances of the undeniably charismatic man, but after an explosive moment in the bar, all bets are off as he finds his body stirring with a different desire than his mind.
As arrogance, stubbornness and sexual tension sizzles between the two, it threatens to change the very course of their lives.
Logan doesn’t do relationships. Tate doesn’t do men. But what would happen if they both just gave in and…tried?

The book that started it all, one of my all time absolutely favorite series ever!
Tate and his stubbornness and Logan and his persistence nature were a cyclone of emotions. The emotions really came from each man’s inner thoughts as neither one wanted to give too much away of themselves in the short time they were together. There were really strong moments when Tate came into the idea of what they were doing including both cafe scenes and the last big scene at Logan’s office. My heart broke for Tate and Logan in that scene because Tate found his voice and strength to move forward while Logan let his insecurities stop him from moving forward. I’m really excited to see where this series goes.
A love story between two strong men. One an innocent in the ways of m/m and the other willing to try and do anything. Wonderful chemistry!
This is … well, gay porn. I’t’s masquerading as a love story though, so it’s kind of great that way.
Anyway, this is not a book where the plot is what matters. However, it could have been. It’s about the sizzling, instant attraction between the bisexual Logan and the, up until now, straight Tate. Tate, trying to get back on his feet after a messy marriage finds himself inexplicably distracted by the handsome, cocky as hell, lawyer Logan who frequents the bar where Tate just started working as a bartender. And Logan seems to have set his eyes on Tate.
The plot development could have been awesome. Tate’s family is rather religious and old-fashioned. Logan has quite the troubled past and is a notorious man-whore with a fear of relationships. And finally, Tate’s soon-to-be ex-wife has engaged Logan’s firm to handle her’s and Tate’s divorce. So, clearly it’s the perfect setting for some juicy, shit-meet-fan drama. Bute even though the story touches on these issues, it’s only in the very end of the book and in a very unresolved way.
Instead, most of the story describes Logan’s pursuit of Tate and boatloads of sexual encounters. This wouldn’t neccessarily be a bad thing, but the overly aggressive way that Logan tries to convince Tate to give him a try is rather disturbing. To me at least. There are lots of manhandling, capturing and pressing into walls. There’s physical intimidation and lots of unwanted advances that Tate rejects over and over. So about the first third of the book has a sort of rapey feel to it. Don’t get me wrong, Tate is truly attracted to Logan, but that’s hardly the point. And if Tate had been a woman and not a big strong guy, it would have been stalking and assault. But since it’s a man that’s being chased, it’s suppose to be okay? Well. I don’t really think so.
But this is fiction so it’s quite alright. It’s just safe to say that I’m obviously not the target reader for this story. I guess many people enjoy that stuff even if I think it’s creepy as heck.
Anyway, when Logan succeeds in his pursuit some serious sexing begins. All the time. All over the place. Over and over again.
Granted, it’s really steamy. But I was expecting a story. Also, I had higher expectations of the character development. Tate’s road to self-discovery is quite beautifully described, but Logan’s character was more or less at a standstill. I mean, he did start as a self-absorbed, relationship-fobic and agreed towards the end to an exclusive relationship, but that’s just external. The descriptions of the inner workings of his mind didn’t really stray from douche-mode very often.
In conclusion, this is a well-written, super sexy read. For the right target audience, a great read even. That audience just isn’t me. There is a sequel to Try, which might be the reason so few of the potential plots were expanded upon. But I don’t think I’ll be reading that sequel.

I binge read this entire Temptation series this week. OMG…I loved it. It was bold, gripping and addictive. I was hooked from beginning to end. I loved the storyline. Logan chasing the straight guy and trying to convince him to “Try” with him was genius. However it was more than just a romance. Life was also happening to these characters as they discovered themselves.
I loved the characters. Logan and Tate are without a doubt perfect together yet their road was not always perfect and I enjoyed going on this journey with them.
The emotions were real, the steamy scenes were off the charts hott and their chemistry was intense. It was a fantastic read and and a great introduction to this series. I would highly recommend it to all lovers of MM romance.
My first M/M book. The first chapter hooked me. I read the entire series.
Apparently, I’m in the minority here, but I really, really did not like Logan. Tate, yes, I adore him. But, Logan comes across as a pushy douchebag who pushes Tate into something, then backs off when it hurts Tate the most. If I were Tate, I wouldn’t have forgiven him no matter how much steamy sex he gave me.
I am interested enough to check out the next book, but if Logan doesn’t man up and start behaving like a real man, then I’m going to have to dump this series.
I actually read this book when it was first released … but as I was just going through my library, I realized that I have absolutely no idea why I didn’t review this book right after I finished it (the first time!) … uh yeah, I read it six times! The only reason I could come up with was that I may have spontaneously combusted and it took until now to recover … sigh …! Okay, let me get it together!
Tate Morrison is a great guy who is going through a rough divorce from a horror of a wife. He bartends in a classy place where the afterwork crowd filters in on a daily basis to unwind from the days events. But there’s one guy who frequents this establishment, not to unwind, but to try his hand at gaining the attention of a very hot, but very straight, Tate!! And … his name is Logan Mitchell—a very gorgeous and successful attorney who will not stop in his relentless attempt at securing Tate’s attention. Logan is not straight, and he’s not really into labels, but we’ll say that he’s bi. Tate, not only doesn’t want anything to do with Logan, but barely tolerates him. All that matters here is that the seed has been planted in Tate’s head. Little by little, Tate is being torn apart by these foreign feelings that are festering inside of him. All Logan wants him to do is try—try something that isn’t considered anywhere near Tate’s comfort zone.
Try, he does … and HE LIKES IT … A LOT … YIPPIE!!!! Okay, to simply say that Logan and Tate are hot just doesn’t do either one of them any justice … they are SMOKIN!!!! Off the charts SMOKIN!!!!! (Therein lies my spontaneous combustion!) The relationship that blindsides the two of them is so endearing and actually hopeful that you can’t help but root for their happiness. There were times in this book when I was completely heartbroken for Tate, especially after his soon-to-be ex-wife was a complete sarcastic, miserable bitch to him, and shockingly, his sister as well. I can’t emphasize what a real good guy Tate is. I love when Tate actually starts to accept and relish the fact that he might be gay because he’s all in. Logan is the one I worry about by the end of Try … I’m not too sure and I don’t want to spoil anything, so after reading Try, I NEED to read TAKE.
This author is very talented and did an outstanding job with this book. TRY IS A MUST READ!!!! There is no possible way that you won’t fall in love with Logan and Tate….enjoy!
Wow didn’t expect to be it that good although loads of people recommended it to me 🙂 I haven’t read anything like this yet before. a straight guy going to play for the other team seduced by a bi-sexual guy 🙂 but I really liked it enough to want to read more so bring it on!
This was my first M/M romance, and boy was I surprised. Mi didn’t think I was going to get as turned on as I did reading this, but holy hell!!! How could I find a way to sandwich myself between these two gorgeous men?!
Tate and Logan were just perfection!
I loved every single bit of the cat and mouse chase between them two.
Can’t wait to dive into book two! So glad I don’t have to wait at all.
This book was HOT! Try was the stunning introduction of Tate and Logan.
Logan is a lawyer by day and man-whore by night with a very healthy sex drive. He takes what he wants (or who) when he wants and until now, it’s never been an issue. Girls and guys alike are lined up just waiting for the chance with this talented man. He sees Tate and immediately knows he wants him and he will do anything to get him.
Tate is the new bartender in town and is in the middle of a very messy divorce. When a man sits down at the bar and starts chatting him up, he is confused at the connection he is feeling towards this man. A MAN. He was married, always been straight, but he feels this pull toward this gorgeous man. And this is the start of Tate’s internal struggle.
I loved the character development in this book. The struggle Tate is going through because of his attraction to Logan. I got a little p***ed off at Logan for the games he was playing in the beginning, but understood that he was struggling himself with the pull he had towards Tate.
Overall I thought this book was a phenomenal read and I can’t wait for the next installment.
So this was a suggestion from a book group I belong to and what a great suggestion indeed. This is the first Ella Frank book I have read and it certainly won’t be my last. Loved the pacing of this book…the chemistry between Tate and Logan is off the charts hot!! Can wait to read the next one in the series to continuing discovering the story of Tate and Logan. 5+ Stars!!
Logan and Tate are an Excellent Example of will they or won’t they… until they do. Then when Tate Tries…. woah HOT!
This is a review of the entire series of six books. It starts with Try and ends with Tate. Well it doesn’t really end, but that where this couple finally gets it right.
Members of a social media group kept listing The Temptation series as a favorite. After binging on all six books in this past week it will be on my list of favorite books too. Ella Frank published the initial two books in 2013 and published book six in 2017. I am so glad I could read all the way through without waiting.
Logan Mitchell is an arrogant and sexy attorney that typically gets who he wants. He wants Tate, a new bartender at his favorite bar. Complication – Tate is in the process of getting divorced and has no intention of getting involved with a man. Logan is determined.
You must read all six books. Do not let the number of books in the series be a deterrent. I loved the detail. I loved the emotions. I loved reading about this love. Tate and Logan are a new couple of book characters that are st the top of my fall in love with book (series) list.
I love this book each time I read it!
Try (Temptation Series Book 1) by Ella Frank
This is book one of Logan and Tate’s story.
Wow! This series is so amazing! Once you read this book you will want to devour the rest of the books in this series.
I was hooked from the beginning to the end. Logan and Tate’s emotions literally jump off the pages. With Logan and Tate you experience fun, difficult, and extremely heated times. It’s amazing how the author makes the reader feel the love and passion between these two. Oh my! The passion was off the charts. This story covers so many different emotions. I fell in love with Logan and Tate from the beginning and their story will stay with me for a long time. I wish they were real people that you could go visit. The supporting characters were great too.
This story had some really great intimate scenes but is so much more than that. It is so hard to explain a story that just speaks to your heart. This is one of the best loves stories I have ever read. Logan and Tate are perfect for each other but their journey is not an easy one but there is no way you can’t see how much they truly feel for each other. This series is a must read.
This is a MM romance but to me it’s just about two people that are truly in love and care deeply for each other. FYI, contains mature content. I read this story through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
So I’m pretty sure April the giraffe’s pregnancy lasted as long as I had this book on my Kindle, and that was close to 3 years, sadly- sad for the poor girl and sad for me for stupidly waiting so long to read this book. Unlike her pregnancy, which I did not watch one second of, I could not look away from this book! I finally had to put it down because I was falling asleep and didn’t want to miss a word of what I was reading. But I’m thrilled to say, her pregnancy and my reading of this book both came to a more than satisfying conclusion on the same day, so April 15th will always be a special day for us both.
“How do you know-unless you try?”
Now I understand the love so many have for Logan and Tate…there’s really nothing not to love about them. Logan is so bossy, so dirty, so delicious. Tate is sweet, conflicted, and quite delicious in his own right. The two of them together, nothing short of amazing. 2 people who you’d never expect to work, but who work out spectacularly. Logan, with his fearlessness and balls-to-the-walls attitude, sets his sights on straight, plays-by-the-rules Tate, and will not let anyone, especially Tate himself, get in the way of what he wants.
So much chemistry. So much heat. So much heart.
“So? Now I’ve tried.”
