Falling for the wrong twin never felt so good . . .From the NEW YORK TIMES, WALL STREET JOURNAL, & USA TODAY bestselling series Beards, brothers, and bikers! Oh my! Identical twins Beau and Duane Winston might share the same devastatingly handsome face, but where Beau is outgoing and sociable, Duane is broody and reserved. This is why perpetually level-headed Jessica James has been in naïve … level-headed Jessica James has been in naïve and unhealthy infatuation with Beau Winston for most of her life. Whereas Duane and Jessica have always been adversaries. She can’t stand him, and she’s pretty sure he can’t stand the sight of her…
But after a case of mistaken identity, Jessica finds herself in a massive confusion kerfuffle. Jessica James has spent her whole life paralyzed by the fantasy of Beau and her assumptions of Duane’s disdain; therefore she’s unprepared for the reality that is Duane’s insatiable interest, as well as his hot hands and hot mouth and hotter looks.
When Jessica finds herself drawn to the man who was always her adversary, how much of her level-head heart is she willing to risk?
Truth or Beard is book #1 in the Winston Brothers series. Each book is a standalone, full length (110k words), contemporary romantic comedy novel, and follows the romantic exploits and adventures of one of the six Winston Brothers.

If there’s one thing I learned in the past year when reading books, that is not to read all the reviews I see on Goodreads or other book sites, so that I won’t get influenced or disappointed when a book I like to read isn’t like by many others, especially from those reviewers I look up to. I’d rather go blind when I read a new story instead.
This is what happened when I finally read Truth or Beard by Penny Reid. I did not peek at the reviews when I got it on Amazon. And it was good reading about Jessica James and Duane Winston’s love affair. I like stories that begin with characters getting on the wrong foot until they eventually get on each other’s nerves and fall into an avalanche of emotions in the end.
The dynamics between Jessica and Duane is both languid and spirited, or to make it more simple – it was hot and cold. Things escalated quickly when Jessica realized her mistake about the twins, but with each of them dealing with their own family drama, the main characters had to back off and compartmentalize their feelings.
To others, this dynamics didn’t seem to work on their taste, but for me, I’m cool with the hot and cold approach of the story. Call me boring and predictable, but this story by Penny Reid proved to be quite an enjoyable ride, with Cletus (the other Winston brother) holding the fort. I would definitely go read the rest of the series this year. Penny Reid, you’re a marvel!
This is my second “beard” book by Penny Reid and read it because I wanted to get to know the Winstons more. I love a romance when the guy is nuts about the girl and keeps proving it. This is romantic, sexy, fun and not dark, although I thought it might get there. Not predictable but HEA.
Confusing story in an odd way. Girl wants to travel, guy doesn’t. Keeps going back and forth on who gives up first.
Love, love loved this book! (and all the others in the series, too)
It was a really sweet story!
Love all the Winston Brothers stories! This one is my favorite.
My favorite Winston Brother ever!
I can’t say enough about this book! I have never laughed so much at a story before! Laughing to the point where tears are rolling down my face! Absolutely loved it and highly recommend this book! 5 stars to the author! I can’t wait tor read the rest of the series.
This was a great story with just the right twists and tangles. It has a HEA but left me invested in seeing HEA’s for the rest of the Winston men. I’ll be reading the series!
Loved it. Great story!
too long, plot meandered , hard to follow
The whitty style of the author makes this a thoroughly enjoyable read. Great characters which lure you in and make you wish that you are part of the story. Highly recommended!
Didn’t want it to end, can’t wait to read the next book!
Kind of an enemies to lovers story. Jessica grew up thinking Duane hated her guts but really was hiding his true feelings. Very sweet book. Can’twait to read how the of the brothers find their loves.
I completely fell in love with all of the Winston brothers while reading Beauty and the Mustache so I jumped right into this series with Truth or Beard.
Jessica James is the daughter of the local sheriff and an all around good girl. For many years she has had a crush on Beau, the out-going, friendly Winston twin and constantly clashed with the gruff and broody twin, Duane. Jessica has her world shaken up when her perceptions of the brothers are mixed up.
“Some of the terms he used—like throttle body—made me press my lips together, avert my eyes from his big hands, and fight a blush. I’d never realized before, but automotive speak was ripe with inadvertent sexual innuendos, like manifold couplings, dipstick, and lube. Or maybe I just had a dirty mind. Or maybe it was just Duane. Perhaps his mere presence did things to my throttle body.”
I love this book and series and can’t wait to read and listen to more Penny Reid books.
I listened to this on audiobook and it is absolutely amazing!! The narrators took a really great book and raised it to an even higher level!
B- book, with a side eye look to this brother.
Theis story was well thought out and written. The personalities of the brother’s layed out in knitting patterns, is a gentle nod to the “Knitting in the City” series that it branched form. That said, I liked, not liking this brother. Jethro has found his HEA however, his past behavior is disturbing, and I don’t think I could forgive it. However i will deny no one true love. This book did give my husband me and I alot to talk about. Any way, everyone was adults and need to own their own ” crappie choices “. A good book that I do recommend. #romance #forgiveness #brothers #famous
Very good read, it is quite funny.

Wonderful characters, with lots of action and very entertaining. I was sorry to have it end!
