Falling for the wrong twin never felt so good . . .From the NEW YORK TIMES, WALL STREET JOURNAL, & USA TODAY bestselling series Beards, brothers, and bikers! Oh my! Identical twins Beau and Duane Winston might share the same devastatingly handsome face, but where Beau is outgoing and sociable, Duane is broody and reserved. This is why perpetually level-headed Jessica James has been in naïve … level-headed Jessica James has been in naïve and unhealthy infatuation with Beau Winston for most of her life. Whereas Duane and Jessica have always been adversaries. She can’t stand him, and she’s pretty sure he can’t stand the sight of her…
But after a case of mistaken identity, Jessica finds herself in a massive confusion kerfuffle. Jessica James has spent her whole life paralyzed by the fantasy of Beau and her assumptions of Duane’s disdain; therefore she’s unprepared for the reality that is Duane’s insatiable interest, as well as his hot hands and hot mouth and hotter looks.
When Jessica finds herself drawn to the man who was always her adversary, how much of her level-head heart is she willing to risk?
Truth or Beard is book #1 in the Winston Brothers series. Each book is a standalone, full length (110k words), contemporary romantic comedy novel, and follows the romantic exploits and adventures of one of the six Winston Brothers.
more
I read the first in this series and immediately went back for more, buying the entire series! I can’t get enough of this author’s work!!
This whole series is fantastic. I feel like everything Penny Reid writes turns to gold. The Winston Brothers are all so unique in their own special ways, but once you add their leading ladies to the mix it’s SO much better. The comedy in the book is almost as good as the love story. Can’t get enough!
Over the last few days I’ve become kind of obsessed with this small town Tennessee-based romantic comedy series! I don’t think I’ve read so many books all in a row in a long time.
A solid, funny chaos romance is at the core of this book but the true joy of it is from the family dynamics of the chaotic Winston family, and the lively small town characters. I like the darker edge that creeps in with the sinister local gangs and criminal pasts along with the hijinks and the baking.
Also, the beards. Top quality mountain beards in this book.
Great twists and turns to get to the love that is inevitable.
First let me say I read this book 3 times already. It was so well written and the first in the Winston Brothers series. I am planning on reading them all and hope they are half as good as this one. Duane Winston and Jessica James are childhood enemies who first come together when Duane kisses her, because he has a crush on her and she kisses him back, because she thinks she is kissing his twin brother, Beau. Jess has always had a crush on Beau, but starts to wonder if she has been daydreaming about the wrong brother.
Duane and Jess are hysterical together and the back and forth banter that continued from childhood into their adult relationship makes this book a fun read. They go through ups and downs but manage to find a way to be a couple and Duane is such a sweetheart. The relationships he has with his brothers and sister are also a big part of the book. Can’t wait to find out what happens to the rest of the Winston brothers.
I can’t get enough of the Winstons and after reading this series out of order, I always knew I was going to make my way to the beginning. I’m so glad I did! Loving Duane Winston is easy. He’s a broody, charming, honorable, gorgeous mess of a man and I thoroughly enjoyed knowing him. He had loved Jessica James for most of his life and when he finally gets the chance to claim her, he wastes no time.
There’s only one problem… Jessica believes that it’s his twin, Beau, who has a chance of winning her heart. Duane was the her constant tormentor, the one person she argued with the most, her prank buddy, someone who didn’t even like her very much. When she realizes his true feelings (and her own), she’s quick to jump in with both feet and it was wonderful to watch.
I loved these two together for the most part. This story was hilarious! Honestly, I wasn’t a fan of the beginning or the end, but everything in between was incredible.
The best!
I am not always a huge fan of small town romances, but this was such a fun little world to escape to. Strong, smart, funny heroine and dreamy-but-still-felt-real hero. I am excited to continue the series.
This whole series was amazing!
Part of a great series. Love this author.
I couldn’t finish it because of the graphic sex scenes and the language.
After a case of mistaken identity Jessica finds herself so confused that at times she is not sure who she is … or at least who she wants! What a fun entertaining story that made me laugh and even cry. Several strong characters were introduced and each seems to have a story that needs telling. The Winston brothers are very interesting men with strong personalities. Each story should be very entertaining if they are anything like Duane’s tale.
Loved it
I loved this whole series. Each of the Winston brother’s stories were great.
I read this book back in August and it comes to mind all of the time! The chemistry between Dwayne and Jessica was ELECTRIC!
I loved the characters and the humor.
Excellent from 1st to last page
Bait and Switch. Billed as a Small Town Comedy, but abruptly seemed to change to Romantic Suspense. Quit on this book at about 20% in, when the biker duds arrive on scene to strong arm Duane into becoming a criminal. Nope, I’m done.
I adore the entire Winston Brothers series.
I recommend you read everything Penny Reid writes. She’s original, funny and knows how to tell a story that will stay with you. Her characters are very unique and multi-dimentinal. She is a must read.
