Keith Stewart is a quiet and unassuming man called upon to undertake an extraordinary task. A skilled maker of miniature working models, he lives a modest life devoted to his hobby. To save her from destitution he must travel halfway around the world and risk a long voyage in a small boat in inhospitable waters to recover her inheritance. In the course of his adventure-filled quest, a colorful and international cast of characters mobilize to help him, and this humble man discovers he has more friends and admirers than he could have dared to imagine.

The first Shute book I read. Been collecting now for 50 years.
Not his best book, but still enjoyable
Excellent. Well, it’s Neville Shute, so you can’t go wrong.
Enjoyed this book and love the author’s style. Certainly different and not predictable. I am trying to read other books by this author.
I last read Trustee almost 50 years ago. It was as enjoyable this time around it was the first time around. It tells a story of a world long since gone. When world travel took days not hours. Communications by mail took weeks instead of seconds by email. A world where it was easy to fall off the grid., it tells a story of failed politics and …
An entertaining, nicely written book with a Walter Mitty-type protagonist. Especially suited for Anglophiles, taking place mostly in the UK. A very good summer read.
Loved this book, but then I love every one of Neville Schutes books!
It was different and with very interesting characters.
One of my favorite books by Nevil Shute. Be warned, it is dated. A shy and unassuming man with engineering brilliance takes an unexpected journey from his London home to retrieve the inheritance for his orphaned niece, wrecked with her parents’ ship lost in a Hurricane off Tahiti. Along the way, he makes friends and influences people, as a result …
An unusual main character… ingenious
Plot.
This book kept my interest the whole way through! A good story about a simple man with old fashioned ethics. Nevil Shute is a wonderful writer. I wanted more!
tightly plotted, wonderfully written book with an incredibly endearing main character who is an engineer.
A classic.
I read this book several years ago, and enjoyed it immensely. It is surprising, suspenseful, well-written, and compulsively readable. Don’t miss it!
a great story with wonderful characters and an original plot. Loved it !
No one can tell a story like Neville Shute. This is one of my absolute favorite stories. His characters and storyline will keep you entranced
Classic Shute. Dated but historically accurate to the post WWII era. A story of personal growth and actualization. Heavy on engineering but many of the points are integral to the plot and outcome.
I never NEVER read another author more entertaining than Nevil Shute.
Great story by one of the greatest story tellers ever!
One of my all-time favorite novels. Beautifully written.
