3.5 stars
Kris and Thorne have both had their struggles, that’s for sure. Both of their tragedies work to bring them together, a true match that seems written in the stars with how perfect they can be for one another. Nothing is ever simple though, and they’ll have to face their fears to grasp the happiness that could be theirs in the face of a very serious threat that could tear them apart.
A gilded cage is still a cage and Kris’ is no exception. His whole life is upended and it was an incredibly awful surprise to find that his family would do what they did. Him finding Thorne was definitely Providence at work. It took him a little while to come out of his shell with Thorne, but I felt the progression worked there. Dealing with the Burn fell into the predictable category for these types of stories, but the carry-out of the scenes were done really well and felt right for both men.
Thorne has had a difficult road as well, but a bit more of his own making. His genetic condition was a burden for sure, but with everything that Kris is it was actually exactly what both men needed. I wish the scene where that issue was put to rest were more than it was. A situation that used exactly what Kris is would have been vastly more entertaining and meaningful than the mild, “oh, poor Thorne for loathing himself so hard” revelation. Despite that moment though, I liked Thorne. He was a more strong and silent type that worked to provide a safe place for Kris to bloom.
Even though there were some really difficult moments that were disturbing (in a general content way, not that the writing or story itself was disturbing), there were so many moments of strength in Kris and tenderness in Thorne that went a long way to making this story stand out and work really well. It’s my favorite of the series so far.
This didn’t need to be an Alpha/Omega book. It could’ve been contemporary, anything with an overpowering self-absorbed father, who teaches his three sons how they are superior to other people.
Well, here it goes. Kris’s father is an unmated Alpha, raising his five sons, that still live with him, to be perfect Alphas. He rules with a strong hand and controls their every moves. But then something comes to light that turns his favourite son into nothing more than an Omega, legally. He’s trying to hide the “shame of the family” by locking Kris away in his room. When his father and one of his litter mates attack Kris and blame it on the “burn” they’re going through Kris sees no other way than flee the house he was raised in.
I found the labelling archaic and it felt like Kris was standing for people who never fit into one category. I also didn’t like Kris’s father very much, as he was being fuelled by the need of a
clean reputation. Everything he did was for his pleasure, his name, his property. And that’s how he saw Kris, a thing to own. He can’t make his mind up whether his son is an Omega or an Alpha. It’s an annoying trait and I seriously loved how he was made a peck shorter by Kris’s rescuer Thorne.
Thorne I liked. He lives by himself, has a routine, cares for the refugee he finds in his shed. He can cook and he wants to protect his mate. He is a bit stubborn at the end, but Kris has the right arguments to change Thorne’s mind.
this was a really good read. I wish it was a bit longer so the falling in love could have been more filled out but it was still a sweet interesting story. I like the characters too.
Trust No Alpha deserves and infinite amount of gold stars. Wendy Rathbone created a story that will leave you breathless. In this story you will learn about love, acceptance, self worth, guilt and redemption. To truly transcend against your transgressions you have to forgive, the catalyst for healing and moving forward. I guarantee you will be taken to reading heights unimaginable leaving you in a state of euphoric desire. Author Wendy Rathbone your writing is like a melodious song creating perfect harmony. I highly recommend this amazing book.
Trust No Alpha is the first book in The Omega Misfit series by author Wendy Rathbone. This book is written in Dual Pov which really works in this story.
I loved fairytale feel to this book. I also loved to explore the new world Ms. Rathbone has created. Very new take on Alphas and Omegas.
Kris has always been the best and brightest of his brothers. He was born into wealth and has been pampered all his life. He has the Alpha gene so everyone expects great things from him.
That is until they find out on this 18th birthday he is not as Alpha as he thought. Then his life gets turned upside down.
Thorne kept a garden every season. He is considered a dangerous Alpha. He killed his mate. He knows about the five wealthy brothers and has seen one in the window. He has nothing of value anymore and lives on the fringe of society.
I loved this story. Kris really needs Thorne, but also on the flip side Thorne needs the light and love Kris brings to him.
There are scenes in this book a sensitive reader might find objectionable. Two almost rapes and violence. But over all great story and I cannot wait for more from this series.
Five Shooting Stars
Great and different AO Verse
This was a great little shakeup to the traditional AO world. Alphas are still dominant and the Omegas are definitely socially downtrodden, but there were some fun little differences that helped to freshen up the AO world in this story. Kris’ life spun out of his control when his Alpha status is no longer his defining characteristic. Thorne is lonely and kind. Their story is definitely not the stereotypical AO setup.
I loved the take on AO world-building here. Kris was young and trying to figure out what life had in store for him. Thorne needed him so much. The chemistry was great, it was very well written, and I’m really excited to go on and see what kind of misfitry we have in book 2! 5 stars because I’ll definitely read it again – creative and well done!
Thorne is an alpha who has some deep scars from losing his past lover. He lives a a lonely solitary life thinking he is a murderer. He finds a scared Omega in his yard hiding and feels the need to help and protect.
Kris is to be believed is an alpha but when he discovers he is really an omega his world crashes around him. He is kept prisoner in his father’s home, is assaulted first by his father then his by brother, he does the only thing he can he escapes.
This was a new refreshing take on the omega verse genre with interesting characters. I definitely recommend this book!
I really enjoyed reading this interesting & somewhat different take on the non-shifter omegaverse MM romance & and at times it is quite heart-wrenching to read as it highlights the obstacles & challenges that the omegas face under the alpha’s rules & regulations. The plot was interesting, well-written & easy to read. The main characters are well-developed & are portrayed as realistically emotional flawed who try to adjust in a new & unfamiliar situation.
There is: a naïve young male (Kris) kept as a prisoner by his father manages to escape & is found by a older but dangerous alpha (Thorne) who is living in seclusion then his father hires detectives to search for him, his alpha brothers (Trigg & Mathias), twists & turns, intrigue, drama, adventure, action, family issues, captivity, a attempted forced non-consensual scene, danger, threats, apprehension, fear, manipulations, trust issues, attractions, memories, dreams, heat/burn issues, recaptured, alternative arrangements, defiance, violence, a valid claim, sexual negotiations, confrontations, contentment, love, some steam & a satisfying conclusion.
When I received this book as an ARC I’ve already knew the author for her Impostor series so I was curious because the blurb. The book was an incredible surprise. Since the beginning the plot trapped me and I couldn’t stop until I finished. The story is difficult to read because the topic but even if it could be a trigger for some people the book really worth the trying. In my opinion this is one of the best plots I’ve ever read inside the omegaverse because how Ms Rathbone managed the typical story about alphas and omegas and all the dynamic between them, that we usually know for other books in a very original, not so typical way. She took the normal topic and developed it at the extreme, creating a twisted, dark world around the discrimination part that is simply brilliant. From the general ambience to the angst and emotions of any individual characters, the author made you felt every single thing they were experiencing good or bad and you got a close-up of their point of view in life. It was so emotionally exhausting, that when you reached the end, you couldn’t cry anymore and just get to enjoy how everything finishes. A wonderful reading!!
This book is fascinating! Not only the lore is different than any other omegaverse book I’ve read (and I’ve read a lot) but Kris’ situation is so unique. The world the author has created is dark and unfair but most characters just accept it and don’t even see how cruel it is. It was really amazing to see Kris realizing how wrong everything he’s been taught is. The relationship between Kris and Thorne evolves beautifully and you can’t help rooting for them and wishing they get their happy ending. I’m impressed, I loved the book so much and I’m super happy I can read the sequel right away.
If you enjoy Alpha/Omega books, I highly recommend this one. It’s well written, interesting and unique and has wonderful characters.
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Trust No Alpha by Wendy Rathbone is the first book in The Omega Misfits series. This is a non-shifter omegaverse story. This story was fascinating and really sucked me in. The universe built here made me really feel for the omegas. I loved Kris and Thorne, they were great together. Definitely excited for this series.
I have unanswered questions. This is a different take on other Omegaverse books i have read. I enjoyed it. Kris and Thorne obviously have a connection but I didn’t feel the world and it’s concepts was explained enough so questions and it seemed in parts we skipped as we reference something that we don’t see.
It just can’t be, everything I believed about myself was wrong and now my life is gone, just gone. I was raised in a society where Alpha’s are the top of the chain, they are privileged, learning at the best schools, find great jobs, eventually picking a mate and producing children. But for me, because of one simple thing it’s all gone and now I’m a prisioner in my own house, in a guilded cage with my father and brother assuming I will just roll over and allow them do whatever they want to do to me. So I run, trying to get as far away as possible and then I meet him, the man I have seen through my prison window, Thorne, there is something about him that draws me in and together we discover what real love can really be.
Wendy Rathbone brings something new to the table with TRUST NO ALPHA, the first installment in her new Omega Misfits series. In this version of the omegaverse, the alphas experience “burns” rather than the omegas experiencing “heats,” which is a departure and makes for a very interesting twist. Kris, a runaway, meets Thorne, an older, “dangerous” alpha, who agrees to shelter and hide him from his family. Kris’s nature and Thorne’s attraction to him move the story forward, and I was engrossed from start to finish. A great beginning to what should be a fantastic series! Highly recommended.
This is an AMAZING story. It’s a wonderful introduction to The Omega Misfits Series. Wendy Rathbone has created a new outlook on Omega/Alpha roles. This is the story of Kris, an Alpha who had to escape his family. Thorne is an Alpha, who has been labeled as dangerous. When these two meet the slow burn begins. I loved this book. The characters are well written and FANTASTIC. I’m looking forward to where this series leads. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!
In a world where omegas have no say and no rights, Kris must find a way to survive. When a threat comes from home, he knows that he has no other choice than to flee. This brings Kris into Thorne’s world. Thorne has all but given up and hidden himself away after a mistake takes his omega away from him. When Kris and Thorne’s paths cross there is no denying the sparks but both men are wary of the emotions but cannot ignore them.
I enjoyed this different take on the omega and alpha world. The two men are each dealing with their own pain and must find a way to trust each other as they are all that they have. It easy nice to see the two work to find their way. Emotions run deep in this story. Kris and Throne are good together and their story has you hoping for love to win. The author has created a wondrous world full of strong characters. I was pulled in from the start and engaged all the way to the end. The characters had depth and the plot grabs your attention. The two heal together and find a peace in their relationship.
Wendy Rathbone presented a truly amazing concept of omegaverse! I loved how innovative her approach to shaping the society. More than that, the MCs are truly unique and very well developed, which makes the book hard to put down! I loved it and I’m looking forward to more in this series for sure!
I love this book. I love that it’s a different take on most of the Omegaverse books I’ve read. I found myself involved from beginning to end and I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait for more from this series.
