This is a sweet small town romance with strong characters in Sophie and Austin. The author does a great job building the story and moving it fluidly with her descriptive scenes. It’s well written and is a wonderful story.

This is book two in A McCord Family Series.and it is Sophie and Austin’s story. This story takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions because of what Austin and Sophie has gone through and everything that they have lost there trust in and how they will work together as friend’s to gain being able to trust again. The characters and storyline pulled you in right from the start and kept your attention throughout and I couldn’t put this book down as it was so good with the suspense and twists and turns along the way. I definitely recommend you read this book as it was so well written and definitely worth reading.

Sophie is starting over after an abusive relationship in the house she inherited from her dad. Austin is a no-relationship type of guy who starts to feel differently as he spends more time with Sophie. Is he just what she needs to help her get past her feelings about love? Is she what he needs to finally settle down into a relationship?

I wasn’t sure if I’d like Austin at first. He slept with so many women. Sophie should have asked him to get tested before they were intimate. She struck me as a relationship kind of girl, but she’s dealt with awful men who took out their anger on her. I think she should have gotten some professional help to deal with what she’d went through. At first Austin doesn’t understand why she doesn’t want him around but he starts to understand why and is gentle with her. I loved the stray Axel who decided he was going to be their dog. Deja struck me as a tough girl with a past who was protective of Sophie because she believed in her and I’m interested to hear more about in a future book.
An interesting story that takes one damaged and abused woman starting again with a neighbour who is changed by her.
Austin only ever wanted no strings type arrangements but for this woman he was willing to chance much more.
Sophie can’t begin to explain her past and her obvious distress plus anxiety shows Austin exactly how gentle he needs to be.
Her past may find her again but this man won’t stop protecting her even when she pushes him away.
I liked how they were together even though it took so long for Sophie to trust a man again.
Austin was so captivated by her that he is willing to go at the slowest pace just to earn her affection.
He spends so much time denying his feelings but he was so transparent.
I loved the character development for both mains who changed over the length of the story.
Sophie becomes stronger and Austin is capable of love.
A sweet and surprising story that tugs at the heart strings.

4.5 stars.
This is the first book that I have read from this series and I have really enjoyed it, I have smiled and chuckled to myself as well as felt the pain and sadness. The characters were developed and likeable and I believed in their connection and chemistry. I liked the strong and loving family and friends in this and am looking forward to reading more from this series.

Sophie escapes an abusive relationship just in the nick of time. She settles into the house she inherited from her absent father, vowing never to return to NY. Life in Minnesota is completely different for her, but she’s determined to find her way, continuing with her craft business to make money. But life has other plans in the form of Austin McCord. He knows Sophie has a past she doesn’t want to share, and he knows she doesn’t want to date, but he vows to be there for her as a friend. We watch Sophie heal, and Austin learn how to love.
I liked how easy going Austin was, and I loved his persistence in being there for Sophie. We also got to see Zeke and Ava, who we met in book 1. While I loved Ava’s feistiness in Protecting You, I thought she was overbearing towards Sophie in this one. Sophie was clearly shattered and healing, and Ava pushed her too far. I was glad when Austin spoke up. This was a fun read, and I’ve loved working my way through this series. I can’t wait to read Emmett’s story. Nicely done.
