Back on the job after an involuntary leave of absence, LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch is ready for a challenge. But his first case is a little more than he bargained for.
It starts with the body of a Hollywood producer in the trunk of a Rolls-Royce, shot twice in the head at close range – what looks like “trunk music,” a Mafia hit. But the LAPD’s organized crime unit is curiously … uninterested, and when Harry follows a trail of gambling debts to Las Vegas, the case suddenly becomes more complex – and much more personal.
A rekindled romance with an old girlfriend opens new perspectives on the murder, and he begins to glimpse a shocking triangle of corruption and collusion. Yanked off the case, Harry himself is soon the one being investigated. But only a bullet can stop Harry when he’s searching for the truth…

Detective Harry Bosch returns after a leave of absence. The body of a porn movie producer is found in the trunk of a car which ultimately leads Bosch to Las Vegas and all sorts of cons being played by everyone. Fast paced and an enjoyable read.
This was one of my first of his books, so always a great re-read.
Harry Bosch is back working homicide, and his first case involves a body left in a car trunk. It looks like the victim was the victim of a mob hit, and he has connections in Las Vegas. Is the case really going to be that simple? Bosch’s cases are always fun, and this book is no exception. I was able to spot a couple of the twists coming a …
I love all of the Bosh series.
I have read most, if not all, of the Harry Bosch books. I think, in Trunk Music, Michael Connelly has hit it out of the part. Great story, twists, etc.
Part of a great series
As good as Connelly gets, which is very good.
One of Michael Connelly’s better novels about Harry Bosch, a murder detective in the Hollywood Division of Los Angeles police. Pay attention to the back story as it unfolds. Warning if you read this novel you will be hooked on Michael Connelly
One of my favorite Connery books
I love all of Connelly’s books.
Michael Connelly has done it again! Trunk Music, the 5th Harry Bosch novel, has everything that Connelly is famous for. Complex characters. An intricate plot. Setting as character. Twists and turns. Harry Bosch continues to grow as a hero, with all of his foibles and flaws. One of Connelly’s great strengths is his ability to provide half a dozen …
Bosch, the main character, is one of my favorites. He’s smart and dedicated, but far from perfect. Any book by Michael Connelly is a winner; the Bosch series particularly.
All the Harry Bosch books are wonderful.
Connelly is probably the most consistently strong thriller writer out there. I don’t think he’s ever written a bad book.
I love the characters in the book. Bosch is great.
AS he keeps writing Connelly’s Bosch becomes more of an outsider cop pitted against his own dept and the criminals. It ads some different tension to what is always well written by this author. Jerry Weber
Good book. Interested to keep following Harry.
I love how Bosch can get into so much trouble trying to do the right thing and then, in the end, it all works out…
All of the Harry Bosch stories are excellent.
Bosch never fails to please. Excellent addition to the series.
