We crashed into each other like the moth and the flame. For years, we’ve been best friends.I told him all my secrets and I believed I knew his.In camp, I thought he was the most beautiful boy in the world. In high-school, I promised him my virginity. On our first day of college I had three revelations:He’s a jerk.He doesn’t care.I don’t even know him.
I love Mia’s eloquent way with words.
This book is so heartfelt and full of emotion. I laughed, cried and swooned throughout the novel. Delia and Oscar have a truly unique relationship, that started when they were just kids. Over the years their connection changed but one thing remained constant, the one and affection they had for one another. Years later they meet in university and the love and attraction between them is still strong but there are secrets between them that are bond to be revealed and cause a mass amount of trouble. I loved the sweet letters written between them over the years, their intense chemistry and their passion for their art (music and drawing). What really shocked and surprised me was the twist in the novel that I didn’t see coming. It was a great surprise and I really enjoyed watching the characters grow and change throughout the novel.
Enjoyable introduction to a relatively new author. I like the idea of taking a relationship created between two people when they were 12 and seeing how it holds up as young adults finding their way in college, especially when time and distance got in the way. Although this book had chapters from both Delia’s and Oscar’s point-of-view, to me, this felt like Delia’s story. I felt love, sorrow, confusion, anger, and joy along with her, compelling me to root for her happy ending. I enjoyed how the author was able use the story to teach me about artists and how they view their craft and others in their world. The secondary characters were also a lot of fun (especially Corbin, Enzo, Kayla, and Dalton), and I look forward to learning more about some of their stories is future books.
4,5 Stars
This is a truly amazing book!
Delia and Oscar started their friendship when she stood up for him against bullies at the summer camp. After the camp they started exchanging letters for 4 years when one day Oscar just stopped responding. Now she sees him again at NYU where they are both freshmen, but Oscar is not the same boy she knew.
Oscar’s behavior is seriously confusing. There’s a mystery around him and so many unanswered questions, that I was kept interested from the first page till the last! That plot twist really did something for the story; I didn’t see it coming! The project that Delia and her friend organized for the class, gives really important messages and sheds some light on situations that every new adult might going through.
It’s a book that I totally recommend, a real page-turner!!
Cordelia “Delia” Buchanan met Oscar O’Shea while at summer camp when they were 12 years old. The two kept up a friendship through letters until suddenly when Oscar no longer writes back.
Years later Delia spots Oscar at NYU and she is mad about him stopping communicating with her as they were supposed to be such great friends.
But soon things are revealed that make both Delia and Oscar wonder what was real between them and if they have any feelings left for the other.
This was such an interesting book with some twists and turns that I definitely was not expecting!
I really liked Delia and her kind heart that was obvious from when she was 12 years old and helping Oscar out. The letters she wrote him were very expressive and it was obvious how much she cared about him. My heart broke a little bit for her when she saw Oscar and then got no reaction from him that he remembered who she was.
Oscar seemed so flighty to me as he seemed to be so hot and cold with Delia and he was all over the place. I wondered if there was something even wrong with him.
I was not expecting the twist in the book at all and it totally shocked me although things began to make much more sense!
The end was good and I am glad Delia got what she was after! – By Rebecca
I don’t know how I should start with my review on this one. I was in a middle of a crazy book slump when this book came barreling and almost crushed my heart. I am such a second romance trope sucker and this just hit the right kind of strings in my reader heart.
This book opens with a meeting of twelve year olds Delia and Oscar, they formed a friendship over a summer camp and the reat of the story gave us the whys and hows their friendship snowballed all through the years until a secret, a twist tore them. Aaaaagh! Read this gem, people!!! And be like me who wished this is a longer book. Perhaps that’s the only thing I want to change about this one. The story has sooo much potential to be a longer book. The characters long for more scenes, for more gripping heartbreaking scenes. The cover? Oh that cover! Soooooooo pretty! It’s one of the favorites of my coverwhore heart. I’m glad that this is a part of a series because I want to know and meet theses characters more, Mia Miller sure knows how suckerpunch me when I’m not expecting it. Lol. Guysh, read this one! Definitely a for me!!!
What a great story! This is the story of Delia and Oscar. They met at summer camp as 12 year olds and had a bond right away. They promised to write and keep in touch and they did for awhile. Then Oscar stopped writing and Delia’s heart broke. Now they are freshman in college and it turns out they are the same college. Delia is still upset and Oscar acts like he doesn’t know her at first but he can’t keep away from her. As they try to fix their relationship and grow closer there are so many unanswered questions. As the reader you want the answers now! But trust me, be patient. As the story progresses everything makes sense and I was even really surprised at the truth.
This was a great book. Held me from page 1 until the end. I just love these characters. Oscar with his sexy fiery hair and magnetic personality. And Delia with her wild curly hair and strong personality. They are a great pair. And I am sucker for a friends to lovers romance. There were so many swoon worthy moments. I highly suggest this book to all romance fans. You will not be disappointed. Get ready for your new favorite story.
Truly Yours is a second chance, college, romance novel by Mia Miller. It is the story of Delia and Oscar who meet at summer camp when they are twelve years old. The summer camp is geared towards children who are gifted in the arts; Mia is an artist/painter/sketcher and Oscar is a pianist/singer-song writer. They meet one day when Delia comes upon a bunch of guys who are throwing rocks at Oscar because he has flaming red hair. Delia picks up a rock and attempts to throw it at them, and she misses badly causing the boys to laugh at her. Delia is really clever though because she tells the boys that the camp counselors are behind her causing the boys to scatter. Even though Oscar says that he didn’t need her help, he and Delia start conversing and they end up becoming good friends. They figure out a way to spend as much time as possible together at the camp, and end up sharing their first kiss with each other. By the time that the camp is about to end they realize that they love each other, and want to stay in touch. Delia gives Oscar her address and phone number just as he is about to get on the bus to go home, and when she gets home a letter from Oscar is waiting for her, since he went home a week before she did. Delia and Oscar write to each other a lot during the first nine months, but the letters from Oscar become more and more sporadic over time. Delia is really hurt when she doesn’t hear from Oscar any more, and so she attempts to forget about him.
Time moves on and before we know it Delia is 18 years old and starting college at NYU, where her brother, Corbin is also attending college. Corbin is a music major and is attempting to start up a band with his best friend, Enzo. As Corbin is showing Delia around campus, Delia sees a red headed guy sitting with a group of guys, and even though he has changed a lot, she knows that the guy is Oscar by looking at his eyes. When Delia goes up to him to say, “Hello”, Oscar pretends that he doesn’t know who she is. Delia is crushed by his behavior since she knows that he is Oscar. Will Delia and Oscar ever get to know each other again?
I loved this book by author, Mia Miller! I really enjoyed all of the characters in this book, and I’m so pleased that this is the first book in a series! I’m really excited to get to know more about the other characters and what their backgrounds are. Ms. Miller does an excellent job of setting up a story, and in this book we go back and forth in their timelines so that we can better understand their points of view. There is a complex story line in this book that I didn’t see coming, and it is very clever. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a great second chance romance!
I really enjoyed this story!
A childhood friendship/crush that endures (although with some bumps) into adulthood.
Delia and Oscar meet at summer camp when they are twelve years old. They keep in touch for a few years via snail mail, but then all communication suddenly stops. They reconnect when they both enroll at NYU.
The road back to each other is bumpy with lots of twists and turns and a healthy dose of angst!
Oscar never dropped his torch for Delia over the years, but he’s still harboring some hurt over the way they lost touch. Delia is still infatuated with Oscar, despite his odd behavior at times.
Their love story is an emotional roller coaster (which I love), and the secondary characters are interesting too, so I’m really looking forward to the next book in this series.
I’m still processing what I read. OH My GOSH!!!!! I seriously didn’t see this story going the way it did. This book will have you on your toes from beginning to end.
I can’t wait for the next one. I need more.
Truly Yours was a quick read with a “what the hell” twist. I’m pretty sure I even said that out loud while reading. Unfortunately, the story felt a little under-developed and disjointed at times.
That being said, I look forward to reading more from Mia Miller as she progresses in her writing career.
So I liked this book but wasn’t real crazy about Oscar and Delia. I mean they were good characters but I guess I didn’t see the point of the extra character. He was a jerk for real.
Oscar and Delia met a summer camp. Had a strong connection and despite writing letters for a little bit, lost touch until college. This is when the story gets interesting. Oscar is a gifted piano player and is given an opportunity of a lifetime. It also gives him time with Delia again. Things are tense between them but there’s a reason behind that. Both characters are strong and determined, dedicated to their craft. I admire that for sure. This was a good friends to lovers book
This is the first book in a new series from this author, and is Oscar and Delia’s story. These two met at summer camp at age 12, became friends and corresponded with each other, until life puts issues in their path. When they meet up again Oscar pretends he does not know who Delia is. Can these two have a second chance at love? This is a well written story which is filled with twists, and complex characters and plot, all which had me intrigued and hooked throughout. I look forward to reading the next book in this series, and I recommend this authors’ work for all.
Truly Yours is a good read. Cordelia and Oscar meet at camp when they are younger. They write for bit and I enjoyed reading the letters. Oscar stops writing. I was really winder why he stopped writing and couldn’t wait to read more to find out. Yup, I was totally hooked on this story when Oscar stopped writing, I didn’t want to put it down after that. They cross paths again when they are in college. At first I wasn’t a huge fan of college age Oscar but he won me over. There’s a twist that’s pretty interesting. There are ups and downs in this that make it a great read.
“It felt like I tasted the wind and the sun and everything else Oscar was made of.”
Truly Yours was my first book by Mia Miller and it turned out to be a nice and lovely read.
The story itself has so much potential, I wish Mia would have considered to deepen some things here and there.
“If whatever existed between us were a painting, I would have colored the air in a sharp, vibrant blue shade of forget-me-not.”
What starts as young love of two 12 year old kids in summer camp turns over the years into deep heartbreak, loss and mourning this love. Now at college those two soul mates meet again and get another chance. I leave it at that because I don’t want to spoil anything, because it’s getting complicated (who would have guessed? 😉 )
“Inside your eyes, I see the rest of my days and I hope you’ll accept me for who I am.”
My problem with the writing of this book was that – at least for me – there have been some minor plot holes and time leaps (maybe you won’t see them like such as, but I frankly do) and I had some question marks while reading this story. Yes, sure thing some of those I got answered, but most of those weren’t answered. Mostly I questioned parts of the main characters interaction since they met again at college. The way they dealt with things weren’t always logical to me. But, who knows? To you they might. 🙂 We all read books differently, don’t we?
“You are a song I discover every day.”
Nevertheless, Mia created with Truly Yours a lovely second chance romance with an interesting plot twist.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
