From the bestselling author of Wish Me Home comes a breathtaking novel about the secrets that families keep and one woman’s illuminating search for the truth.
Quinn Maguire has a stable life, a fiancé, and what she thinks is a clear vision for her future. All of that comes undone by her mother’s deathbed confession—the absentee father Quinn spent thirty years resenting is not her real father at … not her real father at all. With that one revealing whisper, Quinn embarks on a journey to Maui, her mother’s childhood home, a storied paradise that holds the truth about her mother’s past and all its secrets Quinn is determined to uncover.
But settling on the island has its complications, and with the fiancé she left behind questioning every choice she makes, Quinn’s quest for her truth is even more difficult than she expected. As time passes and she digs deeper into her family history and her own identity, one thing becomes clear: Maui is as beautiful as she’d always imagined, and its magic is helping uncover the woman that Quinn was always meant to be.

Quinn’s story captures the essence of the importance of connection. Her life is upturned, but maybe that’s not such a bad thing…
I loved the setting and felt like I was there in beautiful Hawaii. Kay Bratt gives the reader a glimpse behind the tourism there, delving into real lives of people who live there.
I’m looking forward to the second book in the series!
Loved this book! I couldn’t put it down and felt totally invested with the characters and their journeys. I also recommend the other books written by Kay Bratt – very enjoyable.
I read this book very quickly as I had a hard time putting it down because I wanted to see what happened next. I LOVED the characters and the journey they go on. I found the story to be very fitting for today and what people are going through with secrets from he past that many believed could stay there forever. This book is a wonderful reminder that what you have planned for your life may not be how it turns out and if we are lucky it is more than we ever dared to dream.
I loved everything about this book – plot, main & supporting characters, and setting. I found Quinn to be very likeable and I found myself rooting for her throughout the story as she tries to unravel the mystery of her family while also asserting her independence from her controlling fiance. This book highlights the value of true friendship and the power of compassion and forgiveness.
Thank you NetGalley and Kay Bratt for the opportunity to read the ARC. This is my honest opinion.
Kay Bratt is amazing! This isn’t the first book I have read by her. She blows me away with each book. As with every book I have read by Kay, it brought me into the world of the characters, and seemed like I was there with them.
I could go on and on, but you really need to read for yourself with how wonderful this book is.
True to Me is a fabulous story of discovery.
Set in wonderful Hawaii, Quinn, the main character, discovers a family that she never thought imaginable. She was raised by a single mother and despised the man she thought was her father for never being part of her life.
When her mother passes, she asks to taken home, Quinn having no idea that home was Maui Hawaii.
A beautifully written story of love family and self discovery.
Kay Bratt is my favorite author.
Kay Bratt has yet to disappoint me with any of her books. While reading Teue to Me, one fewls as though they have been transported to Hawaii. I have never been and now really must visit.
Things were good in Quinn’s life. She had a great job, good friends and a fiance that adored her. When Quinn’s mother passed away, she felt more of a pull to find out about her family. She was raised as an only child by a single mom that adored her. She now wanted to find out more. Who were her grandparents? Who was her father? Did they know about her? Did they reject her mother? So many questions and so few.
She was shocked when her mother’s final words revealed that the father listed on her birth certificate was not her biiligical father. Her mother’s last wish was to return to Maui.
So Quinn returned to Maui with her mother’s ashes. Will she discover her mother’s family and the answers to all of her questions? You will have to read for yourself.
What Quinn does find ia that she must learn to be true to herself and follow her dreams and find out who she really is. She must learn to stand on her own two feet.
This book was hard to put down! Quinn’s journey to find her family and herself is full of amazing characters and Hawaii is one of the main ones. The descriptions of this beautiful place made me almost feel as if I were there. I can’t wait for the sequel!
My review of True To Me:
This is a beautifully written story about a young woman’s search for her family and finding her true self as well. Quinn was a successful business woman, had a fiance and thought her life was on track until her mother’s deathbed confession. Now Quinn is set out on a journey to find her family on her mothers island of Maui. During this journey Quinn finds her true self and makes life changing decisions. She reconnects with old friends and find new friends along the way.
On her deathbed,Quinn’s mother tells her that the man she thought was her father is not her real father, setting off a search for the truth. This takes place on Maui, where Quinn learns a lot about herself, her mother and her roots.Along the way,she realizes some truths about her love relationship, connects with her estranged best friend and becomes involved with the island and people. The story also has great descriptions of the lush island scenery making me feel like I was right there beside Quinn the entire time!Loved this book, another 5 star read by Kay Bratt!
A tale of finding oneself after a lifetime of believing you know yourself. Quinn had a loving mother her whole life, and a missing father. Or so she believed. The discovery that this wasn’t true, on her mother’s deathbed, rocks her world. She determines to go to Maui, where her mother grew up, and seek the truth. Little does she know how many tangles she will have to unravel in her search for her true father. Complicating matters are a possessive and controlling fiance who doesn’t want Quinn to strike out on her own in search of the truth. and an issue with the house she impulsively buys on the island.
Kay Bratt writes from her heart. She imbues each work with a piece of her heart, and this one is no different.
This is my all time favorite book yet of Kay Bratt! Full of love, sadness, grief, secrets and plenty of amazing history this book hooked me instantly! The beautiful and detail put into the culture and the scenery of Maui made me feel I was right there in this book! Quinns mother leaves her with a deathbed confession that leaves her wondering who she really is. Will she be able to find the truth and forgive what has been kept ftom her for so long? A beautifully written masterpiece that left me wanting more! I couldnt put it down!I loved this book and its characters! True to Me by Kay Bratt
I can’t say enough about this book. It is so good !!!
Quinn’s mother whispers a dying declaration on her death bed. It will change Quinn’s life forever. Nothing is as it seems. Her past is not hers to claim. Her future is now uncertain. Even the present is beginning to feel tentative. Why?
The author takes the reader on a journey to find oneself. As Quinn discovers her past and her future takes shape, the reader is called upon to look at oneself. Seize the moment. Feel the sunshine on your face. Feel the sand beneath your feet. Embrace family and friends.
But beyond all, be true to yourself.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for an advanced review copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A dying mother tells her daughter she lied about the real identity of her father. After her mother passes, she finds a photo of her mother and another woman. With no other clue than the name in the caption, the daughter purchases a home in Maui, her mother’s childhood home, and begins her search for answers. This was a lovely book! I’ve read three others by this author, this being my favorite. It’s fresh, original, has interesting characters and paints a part of Maui, its people and their way of life that is unrecognizable when visiting the beachfront resorts.
Read this book in one day! Loved the story line, adored the characters and the writing was excellent. I devoured this book!
Giving it one of my rare 5 star ratings!
I absolutely loved this book,. From the title of the book to the last word, in the story I was hooked.. Well written, the storyline was easy to follow, the characters were well developed and the descriptiveness was amazing. Can’t wait for the next book by this author.
Right off the top let me say that I love a good starting over story! Starting over isn’t really what Quinn Maguire had in mind when she follows the trajectory her mother’s confession set her on. It becomes clear fairly early in the novel that finding her father will lead to other discoveries as well.
Bratt’s writing grabbed me, pulled me in, and held me there till her story was told. She is a new-to-me writer whose work I’m glad to have found and will continue to look for. If you’re looking for a story to capture your imagination, this is the one!
[I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author via NetGalley, and am leaving an honest review of the book. The opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.]
Amazing Tale. This was one of those tales that was so rich that the author could spend the rest of her career writing within this world and I’m pretty sure no one would be disappointed. The tale here of finding oneself and the large amounts of forgiveness that sometimes requires is palpable and tragic – but ultimately the feel good story one expects from this particular author. Just as with her previous book, this one yet again feels like it was written specifically to one of her daughters and indeed she has spoken publicly of it being inspired by a trip to see this particular daughter… in Maui. Truly a remarkable work, and very much recommended.
True to me by Kay Bratt is one of those books that once you pick it up you will not put it down until you are done reading it. Kay does such a great job of drawing you in to her stories. The descriptions of Maui are so clear and vivid, the character development is superb, and you feel as if you know each one personally you are totally invested in the story. This book is about love, loss, finding yourself, family secrets and forgiveness. This story is written from the heart and it is so good you forget that it is not real. This was a quick easy read but very emotional. I highly recommend this amazing book by an amazing author.
Quinn Maguire has it all, a handsome, wealthy fiancé, a top level job and lives in a beautiful condo. But it is all put on the back burner when her mother stuns her with a deathbed confession. This sends her to her mother’s birthplace,
Maui, to find out the truth.
An interesting story of secrets, families, island myths and love. Kay
Brat develops strong and interesting characters, paints a beautiful picture of Hawaiian culture and beliefs and pulls the reader into the enchanting traditions of island life. As Quinn fends off her unfaithful fiancé at home, she’s gaining some of the self confidence that she has lacked growing up, as she tries to find her identity. This is more than a beach read, it’s story of claiming family and it’s traditions. Definitely a five star read.
My thanks to #NetGalley #LakeUnionPublishing and #KayBratt for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
