From the bestselling author of Wish Me Home comes a breathtaking novel about the secrets that families keep and one woman’s illuminating search for the truth.
Quinn Maguire has a stable life, a fiancé, and what she thinks is a clear vision for her future. All of that comes undone by her mother’s deathbed confession—the absentee father Quinn spent thirty years resenting is not her real father at … not her real father at all. With that one revealing whisper, Quinn embarks on a journey to Maui, her mother’s childhood home, a storied paradise that holds the truth about her mother’s past and all its secrets Quinn is determined to uncover.
But settling on the island has its complications, and with the fiancé she left behind questioning every choice she makes, Quinn’s quest for her truth is even more difficult than she expected. As time passes and she digs deeper into her family history and her own identity, one thing becomes clear: Maui is as beautiful as she’d always imagined, and its magic is helping uncover the woman that Quinn was always meant to be.

Very slow. The heroine’s relationship with her mom was very close, so it didn’t make sense that her mom could keep so many secrets from her. She wasn’t very nice to her fiancé.
Wonderful
Wonderful to see the main character grow into the person she wants to be and to take charge of her life, as well as finding the family she never knew she had.
I really enjoyed this book. Loved learning and reading about Maui and the Hawaiian culture. Can’t wait for the next book!
Wow! This was such a powerful novel! There was just so much to this story. It was a very deep, emotional story. This book is about family and friendships. It is about the truth and secrets. Quinn while searching for information about her family will discover so much and find herself at the same time. I was extremely touched by this novel and it is now my favorite by Kay Bratt.
Kay Bratt has done it again. “True to Me” is a real page turner. Her descriptive writing is like no other author I’ve ever read.
In my opinion, her writing has surpassed Danielle Steele’s writing, and I’ve read every one of Ms. Steele’s books.
Pick up either this one or any of her other books. I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.
What a wonderful book! Quinn’s mother is on her deathbed and before she dies, she tells Quinn that the man she thought was her father ISN’T her father after all. After her mother’s death, Quinn sets out to find her real father and more answers to her life. This takes her to Maui.
The descriptions of the setting in this book is amazing. Though I have never visited Maui, or even Hawaii, after I finished this book, I felt like I had actually been there. The characters are also very descriptive and the story pulled me in from the very first page. I highly recommend this book!!
I’m not even finished with this book, and I’m recommending it.
Beautiful story of Quinn as she discovers her true self. When Quinn loses her mom, she finds out her family wasn’t really who she thought it was and decides to go back to Maui to find her roots. The twists, turns and emotions Quinn experiences as she finds out about her past leads her to a new life in the present and possibly the future. Kay Bratt’s description of Maui in this story almost makes you feel like you are right there! Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC at my request. All thoughts in this review are my own.
Kay Bratt is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I loved everything about this book. The setting (Maui) was perfect. The characters were wonderful. When you read a story and feel like you’d like to meet these people, you know you have a winner. I can’t wait to read the second book in the By the Sea series!
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for an ARC. this review represents my honest opinion.
Quinn Maguire seems to have life all worked out, a handsome power driven fiancé and a high paying job. The death of Quinn’s mother rocks her world as she learns the man she thought was her father was not her biological dad. Determined to return her mother’s ashes to her beloved Hawaii, Quinn sets out on a life changing journey.
The book is filled with vivid descriptions of the beautiful island of Maui along with a family that truly embraces Hawaiian traditions and customs.
Quinn fights an inner battle as she is determined to find the true story behind her family and her mother’s influences. Meanwhile Quinn is determined to renovate the Hawaiian home she bought sight unseen and make the location her own.
A beautiful book and a fun setting. I loved the complete emotion this writer is able to delve into.
Beautiful book!
Wonderful characters, human and landscape, revolving around a woman on a quest. And so much is learned by her and us! A great escape from this awful virus!
its a quick read, no surprises at time it drags but its ok
This is my first read by Kay Bratt. This is set in Maui, which is on my bucket list to visit one day.
Quinn Maguire had spent her life being raised by a single mother thinking that her father had left as a child but when her mother is about to pass away she admits to lying about who Quinn’s father was. Despite being engaged Quinn decides she really wants to learn her real father was and finds evidence he might be in Hawaii where her mother was raised. Quinn uses her inheritance to buy a house in Maui sight unseen and then plans a 2 week trip to Maui to fix up the house and try to learn about her heritage. Quinn got much more than she bargained for. There are so many twists and turns in this book, which just wants you to keep reading and not put down. Quinn learns to love herself and grows so much in a short time. This is a very emotional journey and just loved it. I would highly recommend. I will definitely read more books my Kay Bratt, I love her writing style.
True To Me by Kay Bratt is a perfectly crafted story that deals with loss, forgiveness, love and learning to find oneself and I absolutely loved every page from beginning to end. It is the story of Quinn who recently lost her mother and is searching for her biological father that she had never met and discovers things she never could have thought possible. The author did an incredible job in weaving the plot, creating the wonderful characters and the research she did describing the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii and it’s culture and traditions is perfection. It contains all the elements of a mesmerizing storyline that includes some mystery, forgiveness, love and romance and humor. I highly recommend this book.
Following Quinn on her journey to find out who she is and where she came from is an amazing journey! Make sure to have a few tissues on hand for the ending!
I spent the evening in Maui thanks to Kay Bratt! What a wonderful book and even better setting.
Such a great feel-good book of a young lady’s search for her identity. Identity that included her roots as well as finding the strength to be true to herself. About half way through the book I knew it was going to be a long night because I had to finish the story. 3:30am I closed the book with such a good feeling that I lay awake another hour just enjoying the feelings I was experiencing. #TrueToMe
This book was good, it was fast-paced and had a lot of ups and downs like a roller coaster of emotions but very enjoyable..
what I really like about the story and the book is that the heroine didn’t forget and forgive right away that she took her time to think things through and the same time that helped her to grow as a person… I love how she took her time and made the decision she needed in her life.. but also what I didn’t like was that she second-guesses herself a lot inside her mind.. after what she went through with her “Fiance” I felt like she was to tame.
good book good story!!
