They said I was a bad idea. Poor. Violent. Criminal. They said I’d amount to nothing, and I believed them too. Until I met her. Layla Barros saved me from my worst, but to do that, she lost the best herself. Now it’s my turn to bring her back to life. If only I can figure out how to do it.I’ll do anything to protect the chance we finally have together. I’ll follow her to the other side of the … follow her to the other side of the word: Brazil. Cuba. You name it. But how can I be her true north when I’m still finding my direction too?
Because sometimes your worst demons are those closest to you. And sometimes getting rid of them isn’t a choice at all.

Out of all 3 Bad Idea books I think this True North was the best, I just love Nico and Layla they been through so much and still hung tough for each other, what a great ending for these two.
I love Layla and Nico so much!!!!!
This book was so many things…. but basically it was fan-freaking-tastic! I swear Nico and Layla have one of the most drama filled stories! Its hard to talk about without spoilers… and I say this because I don’t want to ruin the first 2 books for anyone who has not read them. After the end of the last book, I was very happy to see that they were together in this book. But them being together does not keep them from having issues. Them being together brought on a whole other set of hurdles for them to get over. I have been so drawn in to their story that I am so proud of them! I cried tears of pain when they went though sadness and pain. I cried tears of joy when they had cause to celebrate. And when they each passed another milestone I felt the pride as if they were my own family! I could not have asked for a better wrap up to Nico and Layla’s story!
Nicole has dragged me in more and more with each book she writes. I am not sure how she will do better, but I am quite excited to see what she comes up with next!
Gahhh!!!! This ending was so unbelievable! i laughed, swooned, and fell in love with the characters! Such an outstanding ending to a fantastic series!!
Wow what amazing book that will have you feeling the emotion roll of the pages. When times are hard and the tables are turned will this story grab your heart and have. You falling in love again. This series is so beautiful written and will grab you from the first page and have you turning the pages not wanting the story to end..
NICO’S TRUE NORTH WAS ALWAYS NYU
What a truly marvelous way to end this series! True North is unquestionably my favorite book in this series. After all the angst in Book 2, Lost Ones, I needed this book like a soothing balm for my soul.
In True North, unlike Lost Ones, Nico and Layla are together for the whole book!. They are dealing with the aftermath of her abusive relationship with Giancarlo and his attack on her, as well as her relationship (or should I say lack of) with her father.
I absolutely love Layla and Nico together. I can hear the sizzle, feel the heat, and bask in the passion of their young love. I cheered for our girl as she chased her inner demons and conquered. As she confronted her father and made him see the truth. But most of all, I loved watching these two stand up for each other and be there for each other. To be there in the corner cheering for each other no matter the odds, cause that is what love does. I had big goofy grins and goose bumps through most of this book.I
Oh, the Epilogues. I’m one who loves a HEA with an Epilogue. Kind of gives you a glimpse down the future. Babies, careers, homes, lives settled. But when you get 2 of them, *sigh* it’s bliss. They will always be NYU and Special Delivery in my heart.
Holy moly!! Talk about a roller coaster of emotions. My heart hurt almost the entire time. Nicole sure knows how to fill the pages with the most heart-breaking angst! True North was the third book in her Bad Ideas trilogy; they MUST be read in order.
Layla was truly broken, the events over the past year left her a shell of her former self. Would Nico be able to bring her back from the edge, like she did for him?
Their entire relationship was one hurdle after another, would they be able to survive each and every hit or would that invisible thread finally break??
What a powerful story of breaking the mold and going for you want. We all have our demons we need to face; some worse than others. We need to remember that we can overcome!
What an incredible end to this trilogy. The last book in the story of Nico and Layla will forever hold itself in your heart. The story continues with Layla returning to Nico, but is she the same woman who left? Can she let go of her tragic past? Nico will do anything and everything for her to make her forget and move forward. The way this author writes, you can feel every emotion these characters are trying to convey. I literally cried at times! But that just shows how amazing this story is. This series is so well worth the read!
A beautiful book I mean it.
This is the perfect ending to one of my all-time favorite couples ever. I have loved Nico and Layla so much and this book is everything you want it to be. A realistic couple with real problems I loved it all.
This is the final book in the Bad Idea series and one I have been wanting to read. In this book we follow Nico and Layla’s story and the repercussions of her time with Giancarlo, the horror that she is still facing. Not knowing if she will ever be a normal girlfriend to Nico again. Nico is determined to be there for Layla as well as save his mother from being deported. Their lives seem to be coming together but unexpected events may still have the power to rip them apart. Will Nico and Layla finally get their happily ever after? I love, love, love Nico and Layla. This is one couple that has fought everything from each other to family and others that want to destroy their love. This story is one that will stay with you for a long time. Nicole French is one of those authors that you will want to follow and read more of her work. Masterful storyteller that will grip you and you won’t ever want to let go.
Mrs. French has successfully written another beautiful book full of feeling and emotion. True North was a wonderful ending to such an amazing series. If possible I think this final book made me love the characters even more. Nico and Layla have been through so much together and I’m glad they finally get their happy ending. The conclusion of their story has definitely left me with a book hangover.
“Because really, that’s what Layla has been teaching me all along. That maybe I’m not such a bad idea after all. That together, we’re pretty much the best idea in the whole fuckin’ world.”
True North is the 4th book of the Bad Idea series and sadly the last (hopefully not ). In this book we see our favorite characters grow up, find each other and heal after everything that happened in the second one.
In the first part Nico continues training and becoming impossibly hotter and nicer. Layla is still batteling her demons but with Nico’s help she overcomes them, she starts healing.
The second part of the book takes us to Brazil to an amazing trip where so many things happen, we learn a little bit more about Layla’s dad background, his family, we discover amazing news and heartbreaking news that demand a trip to a caribbean country.
Nicole touches hard and delicate subjects such as Carmen and she does it so well that you can’t help but feel it deep in your bones and suffer with them but luckily everything turns out great.
The song you choose from Marc Anthony it was a perfect fit, I started singing it in my head as soon as it was mentioned and I understood why you did. It did Valió la pena
The family kept growing even including Layla’s parents. We get a very long epilogue which I LOVED, nothing wasted there. The new character we meet there just swoon.
I love this couple so much, the people in their family. Layla and Nico go thru so much to be together (age, social differences, family, friends) but at the end they overcome all issues and get their own version of HEA.
Thank you again Nicole for this amazing series!
“If I am his true north, then he is mine . Together, we’ll never lose our way again.”
ok I didn’t throw anything although I did want to shoot her father. Years of heartache and healing have come to pass and these two finally set on a path of being together. There are still challenges but challenges make us strong. . . if they don’t kill us first. While the beginning of their story was filled with trauma and torment, fear and longing this part of the story is mild in comparison. The author gives us a chance to breathe with them as their journey continues. The story is still amazing and so are the characters. Watching/reading it all come together with all of the loose ends tied up makes your heart sing and the romantic in you receive closure.
This author is amazing with how she worked us through the years of trial and error this couple experienced. It was traumatic, filled with angst and torment, misguided actions, abuse and so much more. Each emotion is felt from your toes to the longest hair on your head. You can’t help but get lost in their story and fight hard with them to get their happy ending. Wonderful read.
I don’t even know what to say, I am still in AWE of this series, and I finished it hours ago! So buckle up, I’ll try to put why I LOVED this series so much into words…
First of all, her world… I said about the previous two books, a HUGE reason I love this Author is she spends alot of time on not JUST the characters, but their surroundings. The tapestry she weaves is palpable, I truly feel immersed in this city and culture during this time. I really can feel the world through these characters and I really feel like this is unique to this author and sets her work apart.
Second, can we talk about Layla for a minute? She wasn’t my favorite heroine when I started reading this series. She totally is now. This girl, she’s been through so much! As a survivor of some of the same things she dealt with myself, I could SO relate! I am not even ashamed to say I bawled like a baby during one part (you’ll know when you get there 😉 ) I was like I GET IT!!! IT GETS BETTER! And Nico responded just so perfectly! They made me so happy when they figured their s**t out! I wish they were real so I could hug them!
This book is just everything guys! Its seriously just right up there top three books of the year. You have to read this series. I love the realness of them separately and together and all their flaws and problems, it makes them perfectly imperfect in my opinion. Just go get this book, you need it. Now I’m going to go cry into my pillow because I didn’t want to say goodbye and I’m going to miss them!
WOW!!! What an amazing book!! I love this series! The characters are so real and the story so beautiful! The whole series is just perfect!! LOVED!!!
