True Love of a Cowboy does not run smoothly! Your heart will go out to Colt, a bull-rider champion, who is involved in an auto accident where an entire family is killed. Colt has taken the guilt on himself and isolated himself from his caring family. You will admire Annie as she cares for her six year old nephew after his mother’s death. Only Annie knows that Colt is Leo’s father but she has moved to his hometown and has to decide whether to tell Colt. Debra Clopton always brings humor to her Texas Brides and Bachelors series. I recommend True Love of a Cowboy to anyone who enjoys contemporary cowboy fiction. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
Colt Holden is determined to finally win this year. He’s been riding hard to every rodeo possible and it’s showing in the points. That is, until an unimaginable tragedy from which he struggles to overcome. His guilt and grief overwhelm him.
Annie Ridgeway is tired of the secrets and after a near death scare, she’s determined to give her nephew the father he doesn’t know he has. Moving to Mule Hollow to introduce father to son, she’s ill prepared for not only his refusal to acknowledge himself to his son, she’s not prepared for her attraction to the man himself.
What follows is a tender story of a man wallowing in grief and guilt, struggling to move past either, a woman who has grown up with rejection and is scared to open her heart for yet another one, and a young boy who simply wants a family.
Romance – PG / kissing
Language – clean
Violence – reference to fatal accident, accident that causes a broken arm, run in with angry cow
My rating – 5 stars
The little boy, Leo, in this book completely stole the show in my opinion! I wanted him to come live with me! He was adorable! A total miniature cowboy. I could picture him in my mind from the moment he was described by the author! He was the “secret” child of Colt Holden, bull-rider extraordinaire! However, he has just been through a horrific accident where a family got killed and he wishes he were dead too. When Leo’s aunt, Annie, brings Leo to meet his daddy for the first time, she can see that Colt is not ready to hear the truth. However, other family members can’t deny the similarities they see in the boy and Colt. Colt is not ready to be a father but Annie is not ready to let him shirk his duties either! The only problem I had with the story is that Annie gave is too easily to Colt. I felt she should have been stronger to make him realize he needed to step up to being a father and perhaps taken Leo away for awhile. Of course it all worked out in the end but I felt Annie made it too easy for Colt. I wanted a little more contention!!! Love isn’t easy! Still a fantastic book and characters!!!
True Love of a Cowboy is book three in the Texas Brides and Bachelors series. I’m always drawn to stories that have children in them. Colt didn’t know he was a father, and his son didn’t know Colt was his daddy, even though he already knew him. Annie is determined to see if Colt is father material. But she gets more than she bargained for. Annie and Colt’s story was really good. I definitely recommend it.
I love how this author has a way of keeping stories uplifting and light even when dealing with what could be heavy topics. Colt’s family is concerned about him not moving on from the tragic accident he was involved in when Annie and her nephew Leo come to town. Will this son that Colt didn’t know he had help him to heal and move on with this life? Or will he continue to beat himself up? As with the other cowboy stories, there are animals that play into the story line (the mad mama cow and Samantha, the donkey), the matchmaking posse, and many of the beloved characters of Mule Hollow. Loved reading this story!
Annie is raising her sister’s son Leo. Colt is his father. I wasn’t hesitant about this book because I figured Annie and Colt would end up together and I don’t like that he had been with Jennifer, Annie’s sister but… The author did a good job with this subject matter that I really liked them together and was rooting for them. Leo was adorable. They both have pasts that cause them to be apprehensive about their future. There was a “lightning” moment that I loved!!! A really sweet ending. Great series.
