This is a fun (and clean), entertaining cozy mystery. I enjoyed it.
This is a delightful cozy murder mystery set in an Amish cupcake store. As the owner is Amish and her twin sister is a divorced non Amish woman, you get glimpses of both societies. I enjoyed the mixture of cultures and the quirky senior sisters who rent the apartment above the bakery. The mystery is great, with numerous viable suspects, subtle interesting clues, twists and turns and suspense. I found the dialogue witty and well done. The storyline flows smoothly. This is a well written cozy mystery worth reading.
It was ok not great expected a better ending or a continuation. She should have at least dated the detective. (Cop) whatever
Ted tells his wife, Jane, of almost 30yrs that he is leaving her for his pregnant girlfriend, on Jane’s birthday. Schmuck. Ted suggests that Jane return to her Amish life, since Ted and his girlfriend will need the family home. Schmuck. Jane goes to her twin sister, Rebecca, who’s still Amish and begins to work in Rebecca’s cupcake shop, living above the cupcake shop with two roommates. I’m a sucker for a book with kittens/cats on a cover, and I love cozy mystery books. This book is so good and I’ll be sure to check out other title from this author. Cozy lovers will be over the moon with book.
Fun who-done-it!
I liked nothing about this book. The only reason I gave it a 1 was because 0 was not an option.
For a quick read, it’s okay. An easy-to-read book.
great book
Liked the the quirky characters and the easy read. Enough humor and clues that you have a chance to figure the plot out. Would read additional stories in this series.
I received an audio copy of True Confections from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
I think the narrator did I good job with a variety of male and female characters including one male character with a Scottish accent. There were two instances where the Scottish accent was “bobbled” and was just off (almost sounded Asian).
This is not truly an Amish mystery despite being set in a town with Amish background characters and the author sprinkling in a few details about Amish life. The story features a formerly (over 30 years) Amish main character and her two non-Amish roommates.
Characters: I almost gave up on the book in the first chapter because we have a doormat main character whose husband dumps her and takes her to the cleaners. She’s left with nothing and despite having been college educated and lived with an attorney for 30 years, she doesn’t do anything to get her share of their estate. I so don’t need to read another series with a character like this, but I gave it a chance. Despite being younger than me, and, again, having been out of the Amish community for 34 years, she insists on being called MISS because she’s divorced. Was the author trying to be funny because the characters last name is Delight, so Miss Delight??? I would really think any modern woman of 50 would lean toward Ms. Why is the lead detective Scottish??? We learn nothing about him. Why does one of the elderly roommates always have curlers in her hair? Someone in her 80’s would have been raised in a time when a proper woman wouldn’t go out in curlers. Plus, she’s a world traveler, she’s not some hick.
Repetition: OMG, so much was said over and over. Had to be baptized to be shunned was stated slightly differently three times in a row by the same character. It couldn’t be Rebecca because she’s Amish, the Miss thing and more.
I do not understand all the positive comments about the cat. Mr. Crumbles added nothing to the story for me.
Jane’s encounters with the mysterious person and the killer was the final disappointment. She takes everything at face value, questions nothing and doesn’t pay attention to her instincts.
A good read.
Light reading, quirky characters and a simple uncomplicated plot. Maybe too simple.
Being of a certain age, I enjoyed this book and the characters, especially the older sisters. I found myself snickering as I read and sometimes guffawing out loud! I live alone, so it’s okay! This was a refreshing twist on the usual plots for cozy mysteries!
A nice cozy mystery
Well written, well developed, interesting, and intense. It is so nice to read an excellent book without sex or language. I would highly recommend and would love to read more (all) by this author!
A very good cozy book
Will look for others by this author
This book was a super fun read with zany, cute characters. I never knew what they were going to do next. It’s a fun, quick read with mystery, suspense, and a little hint of romance written in a light-hearted way. There is also some info about the Amish and recipes in the back.
Cute book. A few twist.
