I love bad boy/single dad romances and this was a great way to begin The Whiskeys series. Truman will do what every it takes to protect and take care of those he loves. He paid the ultimate price and is now trying to rebuild his life. When his mother suddenly dies, he discovers that he has a baby brother and toddler sister he never knew he had. There was never a doubt that he will take them in and care for them. When this big bad clueless man is fumbling thru shopping for necessities late at night, Gemma happens to notice, and steps in to help. Gemma can’t help but swoon over the patient, loving, gentle giant. They come from two very different worlds, but fall easily and completely for each other. As their worlds collide and secrets come to light, they must decide if their love is strong enough to endure. I enjoyed Paul Woodson’s deep, seductive voice that easily lured me into this story, bringing it to life. His inflections were spot on and his intonations help to make this romance even more captivating! I really enjoyed this heartfelt, sexy romance and am excited to find out more about the Whiskeys!
OMG!…I LOVE THIS BOOK!
Shopping late one night Gemma’s heart goes out to the big man holding a baby with a toddler in the buggy. Coming to his rescue, she helps him pick out the right diapers, clothes and food. Falling in love on the spot, Truman and Gemma work through their secrets to find a life together. Very emotional with one sweet hero with a big heart!
I couldn’t resist this plot summary. Protective older brother raising his young siblings? Warms my heart. Luckily, Tru Blue lived up to its summary. I loved the characterization and interactions of both Truman and Gemma, especially with Tru’s young siblings. This story hit upon some dark sides of life, but it dealt with it well and left me wanting more.
One of my favorite authors. Would recommend.
great read! realistic and stays with you
the story about Truman & Gemma was great, What a loving & loyal person Truman is! Even with all the pain & hurt that both of them had growing up they found each other. Loved the book can not wait to read more about the Whiskey Bros
Good “fleshed out” characters with redeemable flaws ( a favorite) heart tugging plot and HOT!!!!
Truly amazing!
Family comes first is an oft spoken mantra, but its deep at the heart of this book and feels really real. A deep, warm, read with spice thrown in. And I looove the cover.
Ovary explosion…
Let me explain (coughs and releasing in a gravelly sex laced voice):
a hot, tall, dark bad boy with an infant and a toddler
love pouring off of him in his confused state
he oozes dirty, nasty sex – in all the good ways- but is sweet, kind, and caring
Ovary explosion…don’t even get me started on the orgasm inducing sweet things he says. The dirty stuff is great too but the way Tru tears apart all of Gemma’s insecurities without needing prompting… The way he instinctively knows what the kids need…
Hearts will turn to mush the way Gemma’s knees do. Tru…ly sweet. I want to steal him and hug him forever.
..sigh…
I look forward to Bear’s story and hope that the Gritt family will be included, even if only a little.
By the way, anyone else mildly amused name is Tru Gritt. Yeah, I’m a John Wayne fan too.
I can’t believe that this was my first book from this author even though I have some ebooks of hers already on my kindle.
I absolutely loved the cover and even more so now after reading this book. This story had so many feels I didn’t expect and it pulled me in from the very first page. Truman was a character I didn’t count on loving so much. He was such a though looking guy with a big soft heart and so much love to give. How many men would do what he did? This was such a heartwarming story despite the shadows looming overhead.
The Story:
Truman spent years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Now he is thrown into taking care of his siblings he didn’t know existed until his mother overdosed. Since Truman feels like he had failed his younger brother, he doesn’t want to fail his other siblings too and give them a better life.
When Gemma sees Tru standing at Walmart she cannot come up with a good enough reason why this handsome guy with his massive biceps is standing in the baby section in the middle of the night with a baby in his arms and a kid in his cart. Brooding over a magazine he seems so lost to her and despite the dangerous vibe around him she can’t help it and approaches him.
Truman never needed help in his life though this pushy woman obviously knows a lot about what babies need. He just wishes he would have met her in another lifetime, when things wouldn’t be as bad as they are because she is gorgeous and he can’t imagine someone like her being with someone like him. He is the wrong guy for her, he knows this because even though she is so lovely and help-ful, when he would tell her the truth she would run for the hills.
Thoughts:
I loved this book a lot! The story started out really good but moved a bit slow in the middle part although I liked that it was not overdone but had a real life feel to it. All the details about Tru made him the perfect guy even with his troubled past. He was far from having a perfect life but he had so much warmth inside his hard and tough body that I couldn’t resist his charm. He wasn’t someone you’d normally count on taking care of kids that didn’t have to be his responsibility but he changed his life within a heartbeat just to take care of his siblings. This was so heartrending.
Gemma was a pushy, fun and warmhearted woman but her life was anything from perfect growing up in a home feeling like a prisoner. I loved how those two characters with their own troubled pasts found and helped each other. It was like fate. Tru’s paintings described him perfectly without being cheesy and I think that the author had done a fine job with the characters of Truman and Gemma.
I love Melissa Foster’s books. I love how her characters appear in different stories. She makes her characters real.
This has been in my tbr pile for forever it seems, but I’m happy I finally had a chance to read it! I thought Truman and Gemma’s romance happened relatively quick and bordered on sappy sweet, with some steam added in..and this totally worked for me because I wasn’t in the mood for childish, angsty behavior. After the crap Truman went through because of his family, I was thrilled when a lot of good things started falling into place for him. Kennedy and Lincoln were adorable and super cute, and I loved how Truman was completely in tune to them and their needs, always putting their welfare first. I enjoyed this book enough to look into the rest of the Whiskey series, especially Bear and Gemma’s sassy friend Crystal-definitely saw some sparks between those two!
Good manners & loyalty don’t always have to do with where you were born or your status in life. It has to do with love – love for family, friends, right or wrong, or even yourself. Truman Gritt puts everyone in his life before himself. It started out when he was little & protected his brother by confessing to a crime he didn’t commit & again when he found out that while he was in prison, his mother had two more children. Now that he’s accepted responsibility for them, he can’t afford to allow anyone else into the chaos that has become his life.
Gemma Wright is shopping late one night when she sees him – tall, sexy & covered in tattoos of blue ink. What makes him even more appealing are the two young children with him & his confusion over what they need. Without knowing the story, good girl Gemma steps in to help him purchase the correct supplies. The chemistry between them is intense from the beginning but will she still be interested when she learns the whole story?
Loved it! Ms. Foster has a writing style that can take the dirty depressing subjects of abandonment & addiction & turn it into an incredible, heartwarming story of family & love. Her men aren’t fairy princes brought to being but real life, gritty, flawed males that love with their entire being. Her females are simpering idiots that do whatever the men say but realistic, strong, independent women that choose to listen & make their own decisions. The relationships are believable & the sex scenes are hot & intense. From the opening scene, the writer grabs your attention & doesn’t let it go. I couldn’t put the book down & read it all in one sitting. Fantastic story! I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone that gets upset with intense sex scenes or profanity. If you can deal with that, this is an incredible story that will grab your emotions & pull you along on a journey of life, love, redemption & family.
Truman Gritt is a man that grew up in the worst imaginable situation. He did everything he could to protect his younger brother from the life they were being brought up in. When his mother dies and he finds out that he has a very young brother and sister he knew nothing about, he steps up and takes care of them.
Gemma had a privileged upbringing, but was never shown love. As an adult, she makes it her mission in life to bring happiness to the lives of children, one party at a time.
Truman and Gemma both grew up in less than happy homes, but they have hearts that are limitless in their capacity to love. Their optimism and acceptance of those around them are beautiful. This book focuses on the concept that family is what you make it, not those you are born to.
This truly was an exceptional book, well written, with great characters. I enjoyed every bit of it, and can’t wait to see what happens next in the Whiskey world!
Oh my god! I am sorry but out of everything I have read, this may be Melissa Fosters best book yet!
It is an emotional read from the start, Truman has had a pretty awful and crap upbringing, spent time in jail to protect his brother then discovers he has younger siblings – a toddler about 3 years old and baby. His life is turned upside down since he takes the kids home with him after getting a call from his drug addict brother regarding his mother.
Gemma spots him in the store trying to calm them as well as shop for a million and on things that kids and babies need, she is instantly attracted to him and wants to know his story – not knowing the effect that will have on either of them as the book progresses.
I honestly don’t know how to do this book justice with a review as I don’t want to spoil any of the story -it is a emotional read for both characters Tru and Gemma, and what they both overcome because of each others past.
This is a must read book that will have you hooked from the very start – buy it and read it now!
Wow! Tru Blue totally blew me away! I had so many emotions while reading. Tru and Gemma both come from two totally different backgrounds. Tru will absolutely melt your heart and have you falling in love. Gemma’s caring and sweetness will warm your heart. These two together is guaranteed to make your e-reader steam up. I highly recommend you read this.
Happy Reading Everyone!!
Melissa Foster is a terrific writer and “True Blue” does not disappoint!!
Lots of sex but a good story that touches the heart.
This book was easy to read and hard to put down. I loved the storyline and the characters. I am excited to read more about these characters in future books in the series.
