Truman is six months into is freedom when e s contacted by his brother to bring him grief. Truman finds his mother dead and two young siblings he knew nothing about. Truman has an instant family that he knows nothing about how to handle small children with issues that needs handling. Gemma sees Truman trying to get things for the children and he pulls at her heart at how sweet he is with the kids. They connect on a profound level but with all of Truman’s family drama will he and Gemma have a more solid relationship that can get to a happily ever after?
Wow a complete roller-coaster of emotions. I really can’t get enough of this entire series. Truman and Gemma book didn’t disappoint. The pain, the love, the guilt, you feel everything. Love the Whiskey extended family.
Steamy, heart wrenching, starts off with a bang and ends with HEA. I am in love with Truman! His depth, his ability to care, his willingness to do all for his family. The love scenes were steamy, some detail, but well done. This is a story of life, hard choices, addiction, despair, hope, love and family.
I have had this book on my Kindle TBR for awhile. I needed something to escape in and this book did not disappoint. I was interested within the first five pages and totally in for the long hall shortly after.
Tru Blue will touch your heart in all the right ways. This story is full of love, loyalty and passion that will rock you to your core.
I love everything about Tru and Gemma because they don’t try to change each other. They are the light for each other that makes your heart skip a beat. Tru is so selfless, rugged and sexy and when you see him step in to father his parent- less younger siblings, swoon worthy let me tell ya. Gemma brings him comfort and acceptance without judgement for his past or his upbringing and it’s beautiful to witness. She has a heart of gold and loves these kids beyond measure.
I read this book in one sitting because it touched my heart and I couldn’t put it down. I don’t reread many books, but True Blu I will for sure because it’s one of my favorite Melissa Foster books hands down!

I am lucky to be part of the Tru Blue Blog Tour and get a copy to read and do an honest review.
Tru Blue will draw you in from the first page. The writing is well done, the storyline is emotional, sweet, heartwarming and the drama was just enough to keep you reading until the end.
Truman “Tru” Gritt is a mechanic who has been living in Peaceful Harbor since he was released from prison where he has been for the last six years for a murder he did not commit. He is enjoying his freedom to do whatever he wants and he has a steady job. His life is turned upside down when his mother overdoses and he discovers that he has a baby brother and a toddler sister. He wants them to have a better upbringing than what he had and he takes them with him. With coming from a terribly broken family he has become fiercely protective of those he grows to love and care for. A man who met the true love of his life by sheer accident and in quite funny circumstances.
Gemma Wright left her family behind and moved to a new town to begin a new life, one which she could be proud of. She owns a local princess shop where she holds princess parties. She absolutely adores children but she has a heartbreaking pain that she lives with daily, her inability to have children.
When Gemma sees Tru looking lost in the shop with two small children her heart melts and she just has to help him. This I how Gemma and Tru meet each other and the story begins. Together they become the family that they have both always desired.
I fell in love with Tru and Gemma from the start. Melissa has done it again with another awesome book. I really enjoyed the Whiskey family when Melissa first introduced them in River of Love. I was glad to get more of them in this book.
*I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book*
Truman has only known tragedy and hardship throughout his life. He went to jail to help his baby brother lead a normal life. Truman didn’t think he deserved to have beauty and love in his life. He finds out he has a baby brother and sister and his brother that he went to jail for has become what he feared, a drug addict like their mother.
Gemma may have grown up privileged, but she never had love or acceptance with how she wanted to live her life. She moved away from her unloving family and started a party shop where little girls and boys can be whatever or whoever they wanted.
Truman meets Gemma at a point of his life where he is truly lost. Their love story is soo beautiful that I cried for them. The part where she first sees him, and the way he loves up on his siblings… ohh! My heart just exploded. Loved how he worked through his tragedy and only wanted to give his siblings the best life he could.
Beautifully written, Melissa Foster! A great beginning to the new series. Can’t wait for the rest.

Tru Blue
By: Melissa Foster
Narrated by: Paul Woodson
Alpha male, single dad, fiercely loyal, second chances at happiness, what is there not to love about this book? Melissa Foster has begun the Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor series. Truman is fresh out of jail and finds out his dead mother has two small children. Being a devoted and compassionate man, he takes these two in. He is determined to make a good life for them, and as he is attempting to buy them supplies, bumps into Gemma. And our story begins. I was so wrapped up in this book, and I tried to pinpoint what it was that drew me in so much. Gemma is a spoiled rich kid, but knows there is more to life than what is expected of her. Yes, I love that, but that is not the draw. Truman is an ex-con with a loyalty to family beyond all compare. That is not what pulls at me. It’s the combination of opposites attracting, finding the good in people, believing there is something better and going after it. Foster has woven this story with such love, as we watch the kids flourish, such despair as we deal with hopeless situations and addictions and such chemistry found between Gemma and Tru, I was falling from the first chapter. It’s a wonderful story.
Paul Woodson brings this story to life beautifully. As Truman, he gives us a lot of emotion as he works through his life challenges. He has an over protectiveness that is easily felt in his tone, and a warmth that makes your heart sing. As Gemma, he adds that sass and spark to the mix, as she too finds her way to an unexpected life. He extracts her personality and lets us have all the feelings this story has. It was a fantastic listen.

Truman and Gemma were opposites that attracted. The author tackles, in a superficial way, the issues of addition and it’s effect on a family. Mostly though this book is about a fiercely loyal man who has fatherhood thrust upon him in the form of two young siblings and the woman who inserts herself into his life at first just to help but eventually to be his partner. Well done with enough angst. I thought the ending wrapped up a little quickly, and honesty thought the custody issue would take up more of the conflict in the book but all in all well done.
good book
A really good story that includes a really nice man! Go figure!!
I love this book. Truman is a wonderful hero. This is a well written story. I would highly recommend this book.
A very special love story about family, loyalty, forgiveness and strength. It takes a special person to write with such clarity about such an, unfortunately, all common problem in our society. Experience the “light” that one person can bring to another.
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
You want to know my weakness? It’s babies and kids in romance books. What’s more? A sexy man with said kids.
This book hit all the spots. A meet cute. Two small children with a swoony protective man.
Truman with his younger siblings Lincoln and Kennedy made my ovaries explode so be careful.
I highly recommend
*5 Stars*
Holy moly this book was amazing. I have read two of the other books in this series (they all standalone, so it doesn’t matter if you read out of order), and I fell in love with both the male leads in those books. But Tru really stole my heart in this one, and now I can add him to the list of loveable men in this series.
This book is filled with emotion right from the start, and all the things that Tru has been through make you love him even more for the man he has turned into. Gemma is a force unto her own, and is a spark in the story as soon as she and Tru meet.
Truman and Gemma are from completely different sides of the tracks, and their upbringing could not have been more different. Yet they’re both looking for the same thing – a love they can trust and people they can depend on. The connection and chemistry between them is wonderful and they’re the perfect balm to each others healing wounds.
And Kennedy and Lincoln. Man oh man, could they be any cuter. Along with Crystal and the Whiskey family, there are so many wonderful secondary characters who add a nice extra layer to the story, and bring the sense of family that this friendship group has.
Whilst things aren’t easy sailing by any means for Gemma and Tru, they have a respect and honesty with each other that is amazing to watch and one of my favourite things about this novel. There’s no unneeded or drawn out angst, and I was hanging onto every work on every single page. I had to know what would happen with the characters in this story, and I loved every minute of it.
I highly recommend this one, you’ll fall in love with these guys and never want to leave. I can’t wait to continue reading the other books in this series I have yet to get to.
I received this novel in a book club giveaway and this is a first-time read/listen by Melissa Foster for this reader. Tru Blue (The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor #1) tugs at your heart and you can’t help but love the story. It grips and draws you in right away and it is hard to turn it off once you get into the story…finishing in a day and half.
Truman Gritt, known as Tru is loyal to his family and not to mention a handsome man who every woman would love to have in their dreams and in person. Tru and his brother Quincy, are neglected by their drug addicted mother and are left to fend for themselves…living a life in squalor. He does the best he can looking after his brother, however in a split second, he finds himself in jail for a murder he did not commit. When released from prison, he now finds that he has to become an instant father for two young siblings that his mother left behind after her death. On a midnight run to Walmart, Tru meets Gemma who is in a totally opposite place than the life he lives. She has all she needs but loneliness confronts her day to day. They both are drawn to one another and Tru falls for her caring and supportive nature.
Tru and Gemma are nicely fitted together in this story and you can see how each are protective and loving of the individuals in their lives. The H/h have to overcome a lot of obstacles and their wonderful, caring and romantic hearts meet them at their HEA. Throw in Kennedy and Lincoln and your heart melts even further.
Ms. Foster…hmmm what can I say about this new author. She has a well-written story that I terribly loved and one that tugged at my heart time and time again. She gives you a hero that exuberates sex, passion, devotion and a heroine who can stand on her own and help him through difficult times. Wonderfully written and highly recommended.

Tru Blue was the first book in the Whiskey series by Melissa Foster.
I loved everything about this book. I read it six months ago when it was originally stated as a standalone. I’ve reread it today in preparation for the second book: Truly, Madly, Whiskey. I loved it then and I loved it now.
Truman was the best hero. He was sexy, strong, protective, loyal, direct, passionate, soft to those he loved, fierce to anyone else and all alpha male. He had a horrendous life with a drug addict mom but he overcame; however, it wasn’t without huge obstacles, struggles and mistakes.
Gemma was raised differently and with affluence; however, she too had a difficult childhood, primarily from neglect with a large dose of judgement. She left her family behind as much as she possibly could and started her own life.
Tru Blue was a journey of family first, starting over and making everything right while at the same time developing a new relationship, including exposing the secrets that strip down the layers to reveal each other’s vulnerability. It also demonstrated the affects of addiction for everyone entangled in it or surrounded by it. The storyline evoked a mixture of sadness, hope and joy with a backdrop of sweet.
I couldn’t get enough of Truman and could have continued reading for quite a while. I’m looking forward to more in the series and hoping to eventually have a book for Quincy. In the meantime, Bear and Crystal are next up in Truly, Madly, Whiskey.
Talk about sweet, complex and lovable!!
“Tru Blue” had it all, then some. A marvelous mix of whimsical, real life and soul fighting love! Where love can conquer all if given the chance.
Throw in modern-day Prince charming! That’s tatted up, with a hint of sexy alpha dominance. Where the tattooed Prince AKA Tru save the princess and the children. Then you have one hell of a fairy tale.
Audiobook Review… Paul Woodson is the perfect Truman. He has a deep, thoughtful, sexy voice that portrays Tru exactly how I expected him to sound. He takes the caring feelings, the fear of ruining the life he is making, and the sexiness of Tru and brings them alive. This isn’t a light and easy book, although there were plenty of fun times in the story. It is rough, tough, and gritty but has all the love, sexiness, and friendships that Melissa Foster is known for.
eBook Review…Tru Blue is Melissa Foster at her best. She brings to this story an absolutely amazingly complex character in Truman. He has lived his entire life, even as a child, protecting and saving those he loves. He even went to prison to protect his brother. The things he saw, the things he did, and the reactions he had have shaped him into the man he is today. Then he meets Gemma.
Oh, Gemma…she is exactly what a man like Tru needs. She accepts him for who he is, she offers him support, not pity or sympathy, and she loves him. The things she is able to do for him are not easy. She offers him support and guidance even when he doesn’t think he needs or wants it. She loves him even when he thinks he is unlovable. She lifts him up when he is down on himself and his life. In return for all this Truman gives Gemma the two things she has wanted her entire life. The first is unconditional love. He just gives it to her, there are no conditions, no do this for my love, he just opens his arms and his heart and lets her in. The second thing she has wanted her entire life?? Well, you need to read the story to find that out.
You have to pick up this standalone story. Truman and Gemma are amazing. Their love is real, with rough spots and all.
