Roommate Wanted: Looking for someone to share my crappy apartment. Bonus points if you are a hot guy with rocking abs.The last part was a joke. Biggest mistake of my life. When I opened my door to my new roommate, I never expected him to be exactly what I had asked for.Hot? Very.Tall? Check.Gorgeous eyes? Blue, and check.Rocking abs? Check.I thought I had scored the jackpot. But what was the first … check.
Rocking abs? Check.
I thought I had scored the jackpot. But what was the first thing he said to me?
“Move.”
Now I hate my new roommate and he hates me too.
It doesn’t matter. I will just continue my life as if he isn’t here, shirtless and roaming around our apartment. I have other things to focus on, like the new job I am starting tomorrow to clear off my crushing debts.
First day of work and who do I bump into?
My freakin’ roommate.
And the worst part?
He’s my boss.

This was my first book I’ve read by Chloe Gray and I was pleasantly surprised by how hooked I was on the book in the beginning. I’m not a fan of most Contemporary Romance novels, but I enjoyed this one. I thoroughly enjoyed Zane, the gay best friend. He was very well written and was a breath of fresh air. I know some critique the emotional issues the main character struggles with, but it’s refreshing to have a character that isn’t perfect. I do agree, however, that her emotional instability gets overwhelming by the end of the book.
Since it’s part of the blurb, it shouldn’t be a spoiler, but I was a little put off by the new roommate becoming her new boss. To me, it just wasn’t very believable that such a relationship would be allowed in a workplace in this day and age. Even though he owned the company and was more than just a manager, it would be a Human Resources nightmare, which distracted from the believability of the story. My main critique though is some of the controlling mannerisms of the boss/boyfriend. Personally, I prefer strong female leads and Audrey is anything but. Kevin though just has these little red flags that made me cringe and want her to run away as fast as possible. I was on pins and needles waiting to see if he would turn out to be an abusive person. It never came to it, but I still cringed every time he would boss her around outside of work. For example, Kevin demands that Audrey does not drink throughout the entire book without any explanation, until you reach the end when there’s a short one sentence explanation. I just felt like there was so much buildup to a character development piece that it turned out to be such a letdown. I also think the story is a self-portrait and I wish she had chosen a different profession than an author. The loop back to the title at the very end was a bit too much for me. It ended up being a bit of a groaner.
Overall, the potential is there. Gray has some fresh new ideas that will help her with writing future books. And she may convert people to read more Contemporary Romance. Yes, there is absolutely room for improvement, but I’d be concerned if there wasn’t in her second published book. I’m interested to see what she comes up with next.
This is my first book by newish author Chloe Grey and I really enjoyed the story. I’m a big fan of insta-love stories and when you add in the boss/secretary aspect it heats up the story ten-fold. Zane and Audrey are best friends and looking for a new roommate to help with the oh so expensive rent in NYC when Kevin, a childhood friend of Zane’s gets in touch looking for a place to live.
Audrey isn’t too sure about this guy especially when Zane doesn’t too much about him since they haven’t remained close friends since middle school. What we find out when he arrives is that he’s tall, sexy and somewhat abrupt in his people skills. This of course doesn’t sit well with Audrey but she’s trying to ignore this as she’s getting ready to start her new job….where she discovers that her new roommate is her new boss! Let the clichés begin!!
Kevin can’t quite believe his “luck” when he sees that Audrey is his new secretary and he can’t wait to take their somewhat of a sniping back forth relationship to yet another level because let’s face it, they’re totally attracted to each other and need to act on it!
I loved the characters and the heat they had for each other. Zane and Audrey are a total riot sometimes and then we have other secondary characters like Marcus that just add to the story. The only thing I would’ve loved to see more of is some backstory on Audrey as she definitely has some self-esteem issues that I’m sure have stemmed from her previous relationships but it seems like there’s definitely more to the story than what we’ve been given.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and would definitely read Ms. Grey again in the future.
A lovely fast paced office romance read about a man who’s trying to meet some ends in his life after some unexpected situations and a woman who is still finding her way in life through new job and student loans debts.
I liked the concept and the fact that they were into each other from the first time even if he was rude with his comment. Well written intimate scenes and great secondary characters. There are a few twists that treat some serious issues in our life and everyone is dealing differently with them but I like how this was resolved.
Each character is reliable as each one has insecurities and are trying to keep their hearts safe but you won’t know how everything will develop if you don’t risk.
Looking forward for more books from the author.
This is a brilliant story. The writing is not great, always using “my boyfriend” “my boss” etc. instead of Kevin’s name gets to be a bit too much. What really makes this great, and keeps you turning the pages, is trying to figure out what Kevin is hiding. Kevin rents a room from an old schoolmate, who happens to also live with Kevin’s new secretary. Kevin wants her immediately, and is so angry when she opens the door, he’s rude to her, then ignores her. Once he finds out that she’s single, he’s determined to win her. Audrey is done with men, all they do is treat her like dirt or cheat on her. But she can’t seem to resist Kevin. But Kevin is hiding things, but there’s no hint as to what it is until the end, and it wasn’t what I thought it was, not even close. It’s a must add to your TBR list.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
This is my first read by this author. To be honest, I’m pretty much middle of the road with this book. I didn’t dislike it but it didn’t wow me and there were too many things that just felt off. It has a good premise, but the characters were inconsistent in their behavior towards each other. Kevin seemed all in from practically the time they meet but when Audrey gets on board with it just a few days later he’s all whoa whoa whoa too fast .. so that was weird for me as a reader. We’re reading an insta story so it felt off. No one should be shying away from feelings too soon in an insta story, imo. The conflict to the story was presented as a big secret of sorts but when it all came out, it was just there. Like the story itself had an air of anticipation to some big reveal and then … nothing. That felt off as well for me.
I think the book could have done with maybe a better beta/editing team. Everything that threw me off about this story would have been caught by a beta reader. But despite all of this, I didn’t not enjoy myself while I read this book so there’s that …..

What a cute story from Chloe Gray! Audrey, a recent college graduate, and Zane are roommates struggling to pay the bills while living in expensive New York City. When Zane and his middle school friend Kevin reconnect and is looking for a room to rent, it is the perfect solution to their problems. When Kevin moves in, there is definite chemistry between him and Audrey, but after a terrible past with dating she is trying to stay away from relationships. Audrey feels her luck post grad is turning around after she lands a full time job that will pay the bills as a secretary, but is in for a big surprise her first day – her boss is none other than Kevin! As the pair continue to get to know each other in and out of the office, they develop and then act on their growing feelings. There was a ton of miscommunication, assumptions, secrets, and jumping to conclusions between Audrey and Kevin, and I felt the bulk of the book was sorting through all that and could have been shortened with the omission of some of that. Other than that, I actually felt the storyline was cute and unique compared to similar books. This was my first read by Chloe but won’t be my last!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Chloe Grey is a first for me and one to be on the lookout for from this talented author. I loved that it is not your usual romance but one filled with comedy and friendship. She shows us how Audrey is nervous of letting her heart out and the thought of rejection again. These are things we all have in common and boy Chloe Grey really hits how with Audrey. These two are hilarious and boy so much sexual foreplay it was fun to see what will happen.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
This book was given to me by the author for an honest review.
In this roommates to lovers story, bestfriends Audrey and Zane take on a third roommate to save money. When an old friend of Zane’s, Kevin moves in, he does not make a good impression on Audrey.
Audrey starting a new job the next day finds herself with Kevin as her new boss. Both are equally surprised. The more time they spend together, the stronger the attraction and a relationship begins.
This is a quick read. The relationship between Audrey and Zane is so sweet. Zane is such a great addition to the story. The story had plenty of steamy scenes, Zane is the perfect bestfriend, Kevin is sweet and alluring. The only part I had trouble with is a big scene at the end and Audrey’s behavior. I did enjoy the epilogue, as it brings the story together.
I truly was excited to read about the “Troublesome Roommate”. The blurb caught my eye and i was waiting for so much drama. We find out that Kevin is a moody alpha male. I can see why Audrey was so captivated by him, I mean his alpha-hole ways had me swooning a bit.
Zane rocked the story as the BFF. Everyone needs a Zane in his life. He was the rock that Audrey desperately needed
I love the passion Kevin has for Audrey. I love the raw emotions he wears on his sleeve.
The only downside was that there were a couple of parts that I eye rolled when it came to Audrey’s attitude and neediness. A scene that played out that had a little TMI for me between her and Kevin that I could have done without.
In the end the characters brought the story back and the two years later chapter had me smiling at the end. I would give this review a 3.5 star rating.
