McKenna Prescott is the queen of picking the wrong men. When her latest boyfriend dumps her, she decides to devote her time to “exploring herself” (read: drinking wine and ordering sex toys online) and starting her freelance makeup business. That is, until an embarrassing delivery mix-up puts her sexy, gruff neighbor in her path… Beckett Walsh is married to his job…which is a deal-breaker … deal-breaker for the woman he’s supposed to be marrying. Even worse, his would-be father-in-law has pulled support from Beckett’s startup and now Beckett stands to lose everything. But the gorgeous, crazy makeup artist from down the hall has an equally crazy but mutually beneficial idea: if he convinces his sister to hire McKenna for her high-society wedding, McKenna will teach him about what women want so he can get his fiancée back.
All he has to do is make sure he doesn’t fall for the wrong girl.

Utterly charming and delightful, I adored the unique characters and their off-the-charts chemistry. I especially enjoyed the insights into McKenna’s world of makeup design, since that’s something I know zilch about. It was fun to learn something new while getting my happily ever after fix!
Oh, I REALLY liked this book!
This was the first book of Stafnie’s I’ve read, and it won’t be mu last. This was a slow-burn, emotional, quirky, steamy contemporary romance that had me at “Mr. Whopper” (you’ll understand once you read it!)
McKenna and Beckett met under some…unusual circumstances, and it was a little sit-com-ish and I wasn’t sure if I would like this book (romcoms aren’t really my thing).
But I am SO so glad I stuck with this because I so enjoyed McKenna. I loved her sense of humor and how she was honest about her thoughts and feelings. Too often, the heroine in romances I’ve read pulls the “I’m feeling a certain way, but I’m just going to keep it to myself and not tell anyone, even though it will cause SO much drama” thing, and it frustrates the heck out of me. Not in this book!
Similarly, Beckett was honest with McKenna about, well, everything from why he didn’t talk much to how he really felt about her.
I felt that Stefanie did a fantastic job building up to the love scene, and also building up the feelings between McKenna and Beckett. I also liked McKenna’s friend Emery, and I wonder if she has her own book?
I would ABSOLUTELY read more books in this series or by this author!!!
Great story about several of the characters coming to terms with the issues from their upbringing.
Cute opposite attracts story. McKenna is a free spirit make-up artist. After she gets dumped yet again, she gets drunk and decides to go on a self-love regimen and orders $300 of sex toys. In her drunken state, she transposed her apartment number and her package arrives at Beckett’s apartment. Beckett is a hot nerd programmer who has been recently dumped by his fiancée, and her father’s backing for his latest app has been pulled. McKenna goes to pick up her package, and of course Beckett has accidentally opened it. After the initial embarrassment, they decide on a quid quo pro. Beckett recommends McKenna as the makeup artist for his sister’s high society wedding and McKenna helps him get back his fiancée. McKenna is a sweet character. Beckett is more complex, he feels that he has to deny his own happiness to help out his family. This is a fun easy read.
Trouble Next Door is a fun, lighthearted, opposites attract romp. McKenna has sworn off men after being dumped by her boring boyfriend, who decided she didn’t fit in with his life plan. So after drunk ordering a vibrator online and accidentally typing in the wrong address, she has to embarrassingly go ask her hot neighbor if he has her package. Beckett is a gorgeous blond guy who has said maybe 3 words to her in the entire time they’ve been neighbors. He mostly just grunts at her and avoids eye contact with her, especially when he’s with his equally gorgeous blonde girlfriend. Imagine McKenna’s surprise when she goes to retrieve her package and finds that Beckett’s girlfriend has broken up with him. That’s where her plan comes in – she help him get his girlfriend back, and in turn he give her name to his sister as a makeup artist for his sister’s upcoming wedding.
Sounds like a good plan, but what will happen when pesky feelings get in their way? When Beckett starts to realize he doesn’t want his girlfriend back, the girlfriend with whom he has no spark? And instead feels right with McKenna, sparkly, vibrant, bright McKenna who chatters a lot but gives him peace to the thoughts constantly running through his head. And even more distressing, what happens when Beckett pulls a serious douchey move and decides he does need his girlfriend back, after having spent a passionate, steamy night with McKenna, getting her hopes up that she’s finally met a man who likes her the way she is, for whom she is?
If you’re in the mood for something lighthearted with an absolutely adorable heroine, 1-click Trouble Next Door today. It’s sweet, it’s witty, and McKenna and Beckett are an adorable, sexy couple of opposites.
Tempting reading often appears at the most unexpected times and leaves a lasting impression. With a laugh out loud storyline and a heavy dose of heart, Trouble Next Door has much to offer. McKenna is a tad needy and Beckett tends to be a bit too clueless. Nothing good can come from this combination, but it turns out to be gold. Amidst the over the top wedding and the equally flighty personas, McKenna and Beckett learn about themselves and each other. It only takes some soul searching to show a person is most beautiful, when being true to themselves. Inspiring words to live by.
This is my first read by this author and while I enjoyed the pace of the book for some reason the characters just didn’t do it for me with this story line. The read was just ok for me along with the plot. I kept expecting more but found myself just happy it was done. It wasn’t a bad story it just didn’t work for me.
