CASTLES, CUDGELS—AND MURDER!After the worst breakup in human history, Robbi Bryan needs a carefree summer and a place to fly her falcon. To give her wounded heart time to recover, she joins the Sherwood Renaissance Faire. But the faire holds much more than jugglers, archers, and a chance to reenact the days of yore. Robbi finds herself entangled in a web of secrets, lies, rivalries, and murder. … rivalries, and murder. The last thing she has time for is a handsome Scotsman with some hefty baggage of his own.
Mal McClaren has found a haven and a retreat among the permanent residents of Sherwood, Tennessee’s year-round Ren Faire. When a murder threatens his home, the brawny Scotsman comes up with a risky plan to find the killer and save the faire. He didn’t count on falling for a feisty falconer with a troubled past.
Trouble, the famous black cat detective, has never lost a human in his charge. He’s also never had—or wanted—a sidekick. But with a killer on the loose and the future of the faire in jeopardy, Trouble must work paw-in-hoof with Tuck, an incorrigible potbellied pig, to unmask the killer and show two wounded people that love is a risk worth taking.

Trouble Most Faire is the latest installment in the Familiar Legacy series about Trouble, the Black Cat Detective (and son if Familiar, the Original Black Cat Detective), as well as the humans in his care. Tammy Lynn, his own human, has left Trouble for an extended stay with Laura, who lives, works, & even is a share-holder in a year-round Renaissance Faire. Laura has invited her friend, Robbi, a falconer, to spend time with her for Faire season. Robbi is getting over a broken heart and in between school semesters, so it seems the perfect break. They share a love of Ren Faires, & Laura has arranged a perfect set up for the Falconry. Unfortunately. Robbi experiences car trouble, & has to walk the last part of the way to the Faire. On the walk, she encounters a pot-bellied pig, named Tuck & an angry Blacksmith named Joanne chasing the pig. What starts as a humorous episode wherein Robbi shows off her martial arts ability to flip the much larger Joanne into a pond ends up with Robbi joining her, courtesy of Mal, a handsome Scotsman & another member of the Ren Faire crew, & a gruesome discovery. Laura is found in the water, and it wasn’t an accidental dunking that landed her there.
Robbi ends up staying at the Faire, where she teams up with Mal & Trouble to find out what happened to Laura. Along the way, other “accidents” occur, & the safety of life at the Faire is very much in question. The future of the Faire itself is also is question, as secrets about everyone, including primary owner Guy, emerge. Trouble is beyond upset at losing a human in his care for the first time, & even takes Tuck under his “paw” as a helper.
As always on a Trouble book, the dialogue is witty & fun, the flow between people & animal scenes is amazingly seamless, & the clever storyline propels the reader forward. Another great book in this series.
I love the Trouble mysteries and I actually felt a bit sorry for him in this book. The black cat detective has been left with Laura a friend of his beloved owner Tammy. Laura lives on the grounds of the pretty spectacular Sherwood Renaissance Faire and Trouble has been enjoying the expanse of the grounds and it’s unusual residents.
Robbi has just gone through a horrible break-up and needs a place to regroup, since she is a falconer she also needs a place where her kestrel would be welcome as well. When Laura invites her to stay with her, it’s perfect since she can also do demonstrations as part of the Faire when it opens.
Six miles out Robbi’s car dies and she ends up walking the rest of the way with her falcon, in a carrier of course. On the final leg of her trip as she approaches the footbridge leading into the grounds she meets Trouble, and has an altercation with Joanne the blacksmith over Tuck the thieving pig.
This altercation leads to meeting Mal and his dog Miss Scarlett and the startling discovery of Laura’s body.
Now Trouble has to solve this murder, never has he lost a human in his care. He has to prove himself worthy, fortunately Robbi quickly figures things with him out. Including the proper care and feeding.
A suspenseful and intriguing tale that will have you on the edge of your seat while also enjoying the antics, commentary and investigating by Trouble and Tuck.
I can’t wait for more of these books, I love how each author identifies with Trouble. I’m also finding new to me authors which means new books and series as well.
An exceptionally exciting mystery told not only from the viewpoint of Trouble, the black cat detective, but also from members of a Renaissance Faire troupe. Each Rennie has their individual talents and secrets.
Robbi, the archer and Falconer, has plans to spend the season with her good friend, Laura, in Tennessee, only to arrive on the day that Laura dies.
Trouble, the cat detective, has been staying with Laura while his owner is away in Europe. Usually Trouble works alone, but this group of humans requires more eyes, and Tuck, the pig, makes for a delightful, if inept, sidekick.
While attempting to solve the circumstances of Laura’s death it is discovered that the Faire is in dire financial difficulties. A competition ensues to gain control of the faire business and decide its future.
Twists and turns aplenty, including fascinating turns of phrase.
A quick pace makes this a can’t set it down read that can be 100% enjoyed even if you have not met Trouble before.
Trouble, the black cat detective, is in Tennessee. He’s staying with his owner’s friend at a Renaissance Faire. Unfortunately, his caretaker Laura is found murdered and no one has any idea why. Robbi, a falconer who has come to stay with her childhood friend Laura, becomes involved in the mystery.
The faire is filled with lots of fun characters including a pig named Tuck who is Trouble’s sidekick. The humans are a mixed lot of characters any of which could have murdered Laura.
This is a well-developed story with great characters. And we all need another dose of Trouble!
Trouble is back and this time at a Renaissance Faire. His human Tammy is in Europe so he is staying with Laura. Unfortunately Laura is murdered. So that puts Trouble on the case. With the help of a new friend…. a pig named Tuck.
What those two get into together had me laughing.
This is a great mystery with twists and turns to keep you guessing and a little romance thrown in.
I was surprised by the end.
I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it. Opinions expressed are my own.
Trouble, the clever, crime solving black cat is at it again. In this story Trouble has made an unlikely new friend, Tuck the pig, while staying at a Renaissance Faire. Unfortunately, crime also follows our feline hero to the faire and it is up to Trouble, with some assistance from Tuck, to figure out who is behind what is happening.
This story has the perfect balance of mystery, romance, twist and turns that will keep you in suspense and guessing until the end.
Trouble Most Faire by Jaden Terrell was another exciting adventure in the Cat Detective Familiar Legacy series.
Trouble is in Tennessee while his human, Tammy, is in Europe. Unfortunately, the friend he is staying with is murdered. Robbi has just arrived at the Sherwood Renaissance Faire to stay with her friend while she recovers from multiple emotional traumas. Unfortunately, it’s her friend that is murdered. A duplicitous local sheriff, the owner of the Faire and several full time reenactors are all suspects. Trouble is on the trail and this time he has a “Watson” in a potbellied pig named Tuck. A tightly paced plot with twists and humor made this an engaging afternoon read.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. All of the above opinions are my own.
Fast-paced, beautifully written addition to the Familiar Legacy Series.
Trouble, the sophisticated detective with a British flair, Tuck, the truffle-sniffing assistant, and a host of wildly different bipeds, lead the reader down a path with so many twists and turns, you’ll swear you were at Dollywood on the Lightning Rod Roller Coaster.
The action begins with Robbi Bryan, nursing emotional wounds from a relationship gone bad, hopes a change of scenery and her best friend, Laura, will provide much-needed support and comfort. Unfortunately, Laura is murdered shortly before Robbi arrives in Sherwood, Tennessee, home of the Renaissance Faire.
Trouble, along with his partner, leaps into action, well, Trouble, the black cat leaps. Tuck, the pot-bellied pig, not known for leaping or climbing abilities mostly sniffs the ground in search of clues.
Add enough suspects to supply a murder mystery dinner party and you have a fast-paced, beautifully written addition to the Familiar Legacy Series.
Jaden Terrell’s ability with description, dialogue, and conflicting characters will keep you flipping pages (book or tablet).
While Robbi, and the rest of the gang, work tirelessly to solve Laura’s murder and get to the bottom of other strange and deadly events, the real stars are the four-footed and winged (Falcon) investigators.
Add an unexpected romance and Trouble Most Faire will entertain both cozy and traditional mystery fans. Highly recommended!
The Renaissance Faire is a unique setting and the characters are likable—even the quirky ones. Trouble hunts down a killer, but he needs to hurry. Residents drop like flies!
Robbi Bryan comes to the Renaissance Faire to visit her best friend Laura and for a fresh start. Only Laura’s DOA and the pet she’s cat-sitting, Trouble, is on the case.
Mal McClaren likes the looks of Robbi but he isn’t ready for woman trouble. Soon Robbi meets the whole faire troupe and everyone’s got a secret – only which one is worth killing for?
A fun romp with entertaining characters and critters. I read it straight through!
Ms. Terrrell writes with extraordinary flair and her latest offering, Trouble Most Faire, carries it well!
What might you find at a Renaissance Faire in Sherwood, Tennessee? Why, castles and moats and falcons and a potbelly pig! And Trouble, as well, a svelte, black cat detective with a Brit’s panache.
Well, and more than a few interesting bipeds who all seem to have a secret. Or three! Robbie, the beautiful falconer with a wounded heart, who arrives on the scene within minutes of her best friend’s murder. Mal, the kilted Scottish Laird—no, really, he is. Cara, a knife-throwing Magician’s assistant turned Tarot card reader. And Guy, who … well, you get the picture.
Who are the suspects? Everyone, it seems.
What’s at stake? The majority of shares for the Ren Faire, some of which Laura held at the time of her murder. And there you have motive.
Unfortunately, the investigation lies in the less than skillful hands of the local sheriff. Realizing this is a crime unlikely to be resolved without his assistance, Trouble steps up to take the lead accompanied by one potbellied pig named, Tuck, determined to be his sidekick for the duration.
As a series of challenges is issued to determine control of the shares, missing and otherwise, Trouble has his paws full. The challenges are intended to be deadly—and almost are.
Trouble Most Faire is some of the best reading fun I’ve had in a while and gets five solid stars from me.
Trouble is back. This time he is at the Sherwood Renaissance Faire while his human Tammy is in Europe. He’s staying with Laura and is charmed by her. Laura’s best friend Robbi is due to arrive any time, however when she does she finds Laura’s body floating under the bridge! Trouble has never lost a human in his charge and he’s feeling rather dreadful. Now its up to Trouble and his side kick Tuck, the pot bellied pig to keep tabs on Robbi and find out whats really been going on at the faire. Who killed Laura and will they go after Robbi? Will Trouble be able to keep Robbi safe? And will Tuck behave long enough to be of any help? Great read.
I really enjoyed Trouble Most Faire. Trouble has a great adventure at the renaissance faire with the help of his pig friend. I just love Trouble and Tuck. The mystery is interesting and there are so many twists that I kept guessing until the reveal at the end. I really like all the characters and the romance is just perfect. This book is interesting, fun, romantic, engaging and has wonderful animal detectives. Such a great book!
