Road trip! When Dixon and Yuri head for Taco Town, they’re hoping to track down Uncle Fonzo. What they find instead is a fiasco. Is it sabotage? A curse? Or just a bunch of badly worded Spellcraft? The small Minnesota berg is a tourist destination featuring a memorable roadside attraction: The Big Taco. It’s not actually edible, but there’s a flock of birds passing through that never got the memo. … through that never got the memo.
One thing’s for sure, Fonzo has been there. Not only do plenty of folks recognize his photo, but they paid him to solve certain problems…all of which are now exponentially worse. Dixon wants to chalk it up to a run of bad luck. Yuri knows a con man when he sees one, and while he doesn’t relish the thought of destroying Dixon’s hero, he wouldn’t mind knocking the guy down a few pegs.
But there’s definitely something screwy about the Spellcraft they uncover. And they’d better figure out how to repair it before the Big Taco is reduced to crumbs—and with it, the livelihood of all their new friends.
The ABCs of Spellcraft is a series filled with bad jokes and good magic, where MM Romance meets Paranormal Cozy. A perky hero, a brooding love interest, and delightfully twisty-turny stories that never end up quite where you’d expect. The books are best read in order, so be sure to start at the beginning with Quill Me Now.

Wow! Dixon and Yuri have gotten a card from Uncle Fonzo and it’s off to see if they can find him at a small Minnesota tourist destination off the beaten path. What a pleasure it is to join the boys again, this time on their adventure to Taco Town. When they get there, it is obvious that Uncle Fonzo has made his mark everywhere: From the crumbling Great Taco to the Globe Factory with an interesting looking ‘tacos’, then the tomatoes at the post mistress’s greenhouse–Uncle Fonzo has been disastrously busy! With typical optimism, Dixon cannot believe his Uncle Fonzo is being willfully malicious with Spellcraft. Yuri isn’t so sure about Dixon’s hero uncle, who seems to be some sort of swindler. The boys get to Taco Town to find a fully booked hotel but managed to find someone that was willing to put them up and set them up on the trail of problems caused by Fonzo’s exploits. I love the gentle kindness Yuri shows toward Dixon’s boundless buoyancy–it’s so endearing! How can one NOT love these two? They manage to patch things up for the folks about town in a satisfactory manner with Dixon (especially) winning friends all along the way.
This is such a fun series, with great characters, good, bad, and clueless. Dixon is an optimistic, happy-go-lucky guy who sees the good in everything. Yuri is his perfect foil…a grouchy Russian immigrant who sees the cloud in every silver lining…except for with Dixon. Theses two are so great, and I love seeing them together. This story has more shenanigans with spells gone wrong and a town where good things have turned bad, sweet things sour…you get the picture. Uncle Fonzo seems to have left a trail of destruction in his wake, while taking a lot of the townspeoples’ money, but was it intentional or just bumbling…and can Dixon and Yuri set it right? I love these humorous tales, with quirky characters and surprising twists and turns. I’ll never look at a snow globe again without thinking of a certain part of female anatomy.
I received a complimentary ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
This second book in the ABSs of Spellcraft follows Quill Me Now. We get to see Yuri and Dixon further along in their relationship. Dixon is his usual bubbly self, seeing the joy in everything. Yuri is the definition of stoic, but Dixon is managing to melt that. Chasing after Dixon’s wayward Uncle Fonzo they happen to encounter all kind of people and problems in Taco Town. The domino effect of situations bordered on the absurd. It was all great fun. I loved the sweet sentiment that Yuri added to the guest book.
I thought that Yuri and Dixon were delightful in this story. I don’t know that I quite understand Dixon’s absolute faith in his uncle, after everything that has happened, but he is such a perpetual optimist that it may simply be who he is.
I’m very curious to find out what’s going on with Uncle Fonzo and how he’s spellcrafting.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Awwww…loved Yuri and Dixon
When Sabina receives a postcard from Uncle Fonzo from Taco Town, yeah that’s the name of the town, lol, Dixon decides to track him down and Yuri joins him on the adventure. There are bizarre happenings occurring to the eccentric inhabitants of this town that has Uncle Fonzo written or rather scribbled all over it. Yuri thinks the worst but Dixon is holding out hope that Uncle Fonzo is not involved. But it’s not looking good.
I love this series, this author. The relationship between Dixon and Yuri is developing at a believable pace. Yuri is realizing that Dixon accepts him for who he is, not for who he wants him to be. The last chapter was so, so tender for lack of a better word. Yuri’s thoughts of Dixon and how Dixon made him feel and how Yuri felt toward Dixon and the dynamics between them melted me into a puddle. Made me go awwwww shucks. Can’t wait for the next book.
