The last place in the world he wants to be is on Gansett Island… the last of her resources to come to Gansett for her sister Katie’s wedding and has no idea how she’s going to get back to Texas to clean up the mess she left behind. Another relationship has ended in dramatic fashion, and she’s put herself on a “dick diet,” swearing off men who use and discard her.
When Deacon talks Julia into taking off with him during her sister’s wedding, neither of them can know how that wild ride on his motorcycle will be the start of the most important journey either of them will ever take.
Another summer on Gansett Island is heating up, and love is in the air!more
Fantastic writing, wonderful story!
Great read
Another wonderful addition to the Gansett Island series. In Trouble After Dark we have Deacon, a noncommittal bachelor who does not want to be back on the island, and Julia who is suffering emotionally and physically. They are both floundering in life. Gansett Island is known to help heal wounds and fix broken hearts and works its charm on these two wonderful characters. Marie Force takes us back for another perfectly matched romance that was realistic flawed characters woven around social issues. Trouble After Dark is a delight!
Loved this book, couldn’t put it down. Love Marie’s stories!
Another chance to visit Gansett Island!
The last place Deacon Taylor wants to be is on Gansett Island, under the “supervision” of his annoying older brother Blaine. Until he meets Julia Lawry and suddenly a summer on Gansett doesn’t seem so bad at all. In fact, it’s starting to look a lot like forever…

A great addition to the Ganset Island series by Marie Force. Deacon is Blane’s, the Ganset police chief (and the character I like the least on the entire island) bad boy brother. He falls Owen’s sister Julia, serial dater and chooser of the wrong men. This was an easy read with Force’s trademark humor, witty banter and emotions.
It was so good to get back to Gansett Island. Trouble After Dark is Deacon and Julia’s story. I was immediately drawn into the book. I really liked Deacon and Julia as a couple. Deacon was perfect for Julia. He was what she needed. I really liked the way Julia was written. Marie Force has a wonderful way of storytelling. It was also good to see past characters. I loved this book and am looking forward to the next installment. Kudos to Marie Force!
Loved the characters, the story line.
5 Star Review of Trouble After Dark (Gansett Island #19) by Marie Force
This is Deacon Taylor and Julia Lawry’s story and one that drew me in I immediately and kept me I’m Estes from the first to he last chapter.
I have a new book boyfriend; there was nothing that I would change about Deacon. He is totally swoon worth, a bit of a bad boy with a heart of gold and ticked all the boxes for me.
Julia, what a woman.; there were times that my heart just about broke for her with everything she has been through. Ms. Force tackled some serious issues with care and dignity and I appreciated how she handled them.
There were times I must admit, that Blaine’s attitude towards Deacon really annoyed me, it fact I wanted to punch him out.
This was a sweet, funny and wonderful love story that was at times a roller coaster for the emotions. I really loved the friendship that evolved between Deacon and Julia and in turn it added such a deeper connection to their love story.
It is always great to read a new story about Gansett Island, it’s like coming home to your family as you get to catch up with what is going on in all their lives.
This book as with others in the series was an extremely well written, sweet, sexy and romantic book. A fantastic addition to the series and the narration by Joan Delaware added to my listening pleasure. Although, having said that I do think that a male narrator for the men would really have another layer, but then that is just my opinion.
Typical Marie Force. Love all her books. Can’t wait for yhe next one.
love series books
All of Marie Force books are excellent!
I’m always happy to visit Gansett Island. Marie Force makes me feel like part of the family every time. Deacon Taylor isn’t happy about spending the summer under his brother’s thumb in the place he grew up and couldn’t wait to leave. Julia Lawry loves Gansett Island and everything it offered her while growing up. Coming back for her sister’s wedding wasn’t really a choice after another dreadful relationship.
Although dealing with serious issues, Marie Force weaves in the perfect amount of humor and love to make every trip back to the island enjoyable. Even after so many books in the series the stories are fresh and keep me coming back for more.
I always enjoy Marie Force. The Gansett Island series is one I have read more than once.

Julia and Deacon story is one that really touches the heart. Julia had such a horrible childhood, she’s the third of the Lawrey siblings and just as with Owen and Katie she was abused by their father, but hers was emotional abuse, unlike Owens physical abuse. Unlike Katie, Julia looked for love in all the wrong places and is unemployed and homeless.
Deacon is pretty much looking for a place to set up, he’s lost his original job as a cop, and unfortunately big brother Blaine had to save his bacon when he got into a fight saving damsel in distress, although Blaine doesn’t bother to listen.
As with all the Gansett Island stories, these to have to overcome their pasts as well as find their futures, and see if they can walk them together. Watching Julia try to work her way through her issues is really eye-opening, the emotional abuse she suffered is heartbreaking, and the way Marie Force shows the effects of the abuse pulls at your heartstrings. Julia is so multifaceted, and you can see that there isn’t a simple answer or fix it for her problems, she has to work through her issues.
At the same time, while Deacon’s issues with Blaine are not as earthshaking, they are not put on the back burner, and they work on those as well.
Characters and family, the emotions that they can pull out of you, are so central to this series, and once again it’s another winner.
Live from Marie Force! Trouble After Dark is the latest installment in the Gansett Island series (standalone):

Trouble after Dark it’s the 21st book in the Gansette island series. Let me tell you about traveling back to Gansette and meeting up with our old Friends the MacCarthys’, Taylor’s, Lawrys’ and so many more. It’s like going home after a long school year. The story of Deacon and Julia reminds me of the bad boy and a damsel in distress, but in reality it’s the story of two people trying to find their way in a real big world. I’ll be honest two of my favorite characters in this series have always been Blaine and Tiffany Taylor. To now bring Deacon into the mix has made me love the Taylor boys more. It is a well written and excellent book one that lets you come ho,e and beg for more.
uppy rescues, anxiety attacks, friendships, weddings, new born babies, beautiful music, family and more make the return to Gansett even better than normal. Deacon and Julia are the new couple and they have some great laughter over “diets”, some serious moments over family backgrounds and some beautiful moments were they begin to trust and love.
Through their relationship we also visit with many Gansett favorite such as Tiffany & Blaine, Mac & Maddie, Evan, Stephanie, and more. I missed having Ned’s wisdom shared in this story, but I loved how we saw Sarah impart wisdom and knowledge to her daughter about taking risks and finding that true love.
I love this series and am so glad I finally started and then binged this series this year! Can’t wait for the next story
