Tristan Blackfeather grew up in Texas with his mother, step-father and siblings. When the future he thought he wanted doesn’t work out, Tristan is left to face the emptiness that’s always been inside of him. It’s time for a fresh start. When he hears of the devastation left behind from an earthquake in a small town in Arizona that holds special memories for him, he and his two best friends and fellow contractors pack up their tools and head for New Destiny.
Darby Deveraux grew up in New Destiny. She once dreamed of getting out of this town. But responsibilities aren’t going to allow it. Darby is a contractor for her family’s company. When her town is hit by an earthquake, she and her crew get to work. On their first day beginning the rebuild, who pulls up but a face from her past. A boy who is now a man that she hasn’t seen for ten years.
When Tristan and Darby were sixteen years old, Tristan was in New Destiny on vacation. They were just kids, but they fell in love. So many promises were made, promises that were never kept. Now here they are again. But Tristan has no intention of staying. He’ll help get the town straightened back out, but then he’s back on the road to California to chase his own dream of opening a motorcycle shop.
Try as they might, Tristan and Darby can’t resist the same pull between them that they felt ten years ago. Can they enjoy each other for the time Tristan is in town and not let their hearts get involved? Or, did their hearts ever really let go of the feelings they once shared?
“For the second time in this life, her heart was lost to Tristan Blackfeather, and there was not one thing she could do about it. She was his, bleeding heart and wounded soul.”
This was a sweet story that has a touch of magic added in. One thing I really enjoyed is that there is a secondary couple that finds love as well. The sexy times are very mild in this, more of a fade to black if that matters to you one way or another. I enjoyed getting to know Tristan and Darby. There was no problem at all not having read the previous books in the series. I really enjoyed the epilogues as well.
Tristan Blackfeather and Darby Deveraux have a past. They haven’t seen each other for ten years. When something happens in Tristan’s life, he heads back to New Destiny to help with the repair work after the earthquake damaged part of the town. Darby isn’t happy to see Tristan at first. He broke her heart. When they realize what happened way back when they were teenagers, everything changes. But Darby doesn’t want her heart broken again. Tristan is planning on moving on. Can they work it out and find true love? With Cupid Michael working on their behalf, they just might have a chance. A truly enjoyable read!
