A killer . . . that’s what I am. It’s what I do. It’s what I live for. I’m no longer the Preston Hale everyone knew. I left that life and the people in it a long time ago the second I made my first kill. I wasn’t going to give in, but when I heard the screams there was no going back. It triggered the pain, the need. I knew what I had to do, and I did it well. But I never expected for Emma Turner … Turner – the only link to my past – to come back into my life. She triggers a different emotion inside me, something I hadn’t ever felt. It’s not a want to kill . . . but a need to CLAIM.

Trigger by LP Dover is a quick and easy read that grabs hold of you in chapter one and won’t let go until you finish the last page!
Preston’s mom and sister were brutally murdered when he was fifteen. His father had taken him on a fishing trip and when they returned, they found Preston’s mom and sister brutally murdered and raped. His father tried for many years to find their killer but was unsuccessful. Preston wouldn’t let it go. He was determined to find the killer and make him pay for the lives he took all those years ago. While looking for the killer, he starts working for a secret FBI group that kills the most disgusting predators that somehow were given freedom by the justice system.
Emma starts working for Preston’s boss, Glenn, as his personal assistant. When Glenn has both Preston and Emma have dinner with him, Preston acts like he doesn’t know Emma, when that’s definitely not the case. They were in a band together in college. They were even close friends. Preston feels it’s better for her if she doesn’t have a relationship with him. Emma is determined to take down his walls and work her way into his heart, no matter the cost.
Trigger is told in dual point-of-view and switches back and forth each chapter.
LP Dover had me staying up until the wee hours of the morning to finish and find out who the killer was!
2nd time reading this book. It was just as amazing as the 1st time !!!
Preston Hale is in a band with Cliff and Emma Turner when he makes a life altering decision when he kills a man who is raping a girl.
Now eight years later Preston is a skilled assassin working for Glenn Chandler. Preston has his own ghosts in his past involving the murder of his mother and sister and he needs to get to the bottom of it before his dad gets any sicker.
Emma Turner has never forgotten Preston and when she begins working as an assistant to Glenn she is surprised to run into Preston.
But when a crime is committed that is similar to the one that killed his sister, can Preston figure out who the killer is before they strike again?
This was a great read with some wonderful twists and turns to make me wonder what was going to happen next.
I really liked Preston and I was ok with his job as there were some big criteria about who they went after. I knew why he needed the answers for what happened to his sister and mom but he was struggling to find answers.
Emma was so much fun but I knew at some point she had to discover what Preston did but I was totally shocked on how it all went down. I liked how she was trying to help Preston deal with his past and in a way his future as well.
The two of them had so much chemistry but Preston knew he wanted to protect Emma at all costs. I knew he would pull back when she discovered what he did but I was glad that Emma got through to him.
The stuff with the killer was intense and the person was definitely off their rocker. I was very happy for how things ended!
I liked how the end fell into place and we discover everything that Glenn has done!
Looking forward to the next one! By Rebecca

Another amazing read by L.P that I couldn’t put down. My heart breaks for Preston, you can feel how much losing his mother & sister crushed him. Emma is the light that Preston needs but he is determined to push her away. Can Emma get through in time or will Preston be completely lost. An amazing story that will have you glued too your kindle to see how it all ends. Can’t wait to read Wade’s story next.
