Aldred, the dreaded Earl of Acca, is at it again. After discovering a new kind of fighting arbor, Aldred rips open a gateway to another world called the Primeval. The earl’s goal? Release the arbor, lock in an easy kill, and show off some supposed prowess as a slayer of unusual big bads. After all, how hard can it be to kill a freaking tree? Super hard, as it turns out.The earl unleashes none … unleashes none other than the Contagion, an uber-evil wizard in tree form. What happens next is nothing less than a disaster. The Contagion races through the portal, steals the life force of local children, and then escapes back into the Primeval. No one wants to chase after the cruel wizard, even if destroying the Contagion means healing the injured innocents.
Cue our hero, Lincoln, and his fiancée, Myla.
While everyone else runs away, Myla and Lincoln break into the Primeval with a single goal: hunt down the Contagion. Unfortunately, the couple’s only guide to the strange realm is Peli, a trickster monkey who may be in the Contagion’s service. And that isn’t the only possible treachery that Myla and Lincoln face, either. Powerful forces could be deceiving our favorite couple about the very nature of who they are and what they want.
Talk about tricksy.

One world that I am addicted to and will always want more of the antics that they get up to . . .
By no means am I saying that you have to go back and read SCALA or even Duty Bound or Lincoln, but that would make you fully appreciate the thoughts and antics of what you will encounter with Lincoln’s new book. I found this one to be a great addition to the world of Angelbound.
Add this one to you shelf to read, currently reading, or read. For lovers of YA,NA, Fantasy, Paranormal will find this one a must have and a great addition. This one held lots of laughs expected and unexpected
The Earl of Acca has discovered a portal to another world called the Primeval and as everyone probably knows that opening a door to another world is not a good idea. When the Earl opens this door way he unleashes a very evil wizard who steals the life-force from little children. This evil force/Contagion comes through as a tree.
This evil force is so powerful that no one is brave enough to go after the wizard even if it means saving their children. Well no one but two of our favorite characters of all time Prince Lincoln and his girlfriend the Great Scala, Myla Lewis. Lincoln is the High Prince of Thrax and part-angel and Myla is a quasi-demon.
The only way to stop this wizard is to cross over into the land of Primeval and chase down this evil force of nature. Myla has the help of an invisible little friend Peli, a trickster monkey. Peli is helping Myla look for the wizard but his intensions may not be what they seem on the surface. Can this little monkey be trusted? Well just knowing that he is a trickster monkey kind of says it all, does it not?
Peli says he is helping Myla but I am not so sure with some of the things that he does like when he takes Myla on these little journeys in slumber land or dream world. What is he up to? Is he really trying to help her? What is the purpose or connection?
I love getting points of view from both Lincoln and Myla. I like seeing the world through the character’s eyes. I like getting inside their heads and seeing the world from their point. Lincoln is a very strong and powerful man but he can be soft when it comes to Myla. He will protect her and keep her safe no matter what the cost may be to him.
But Myla is a strong and powerful person herself. Myla has fought in the arena numerous times. She is not afraid to go up against most any demon or ghoul. Myla is a strong woman that doesn’t need a man to take care of her well except Lincoln or so I imagine that is what she lets him believe. Haha…
Oh man I just love this world the Angelbound world and can’t ever seem to get enough of it and once I pick up a book in this world I know not to make any plans and know that I need to set aside the whole day for reading because I am not going to lay it down until I have turned the last page with all the adventure and the exciting journey that Lincoln and Myla takes me on. Once I emerge myself in one of the books in the Angelbound world I know I am not going to see daylight again until I have reached the end of the story.
The world building is so grand and just seems to get better and better with each book. I wish I could find the words to actually say how I really and truly enjoy or feel about the Angelbound worlds and the characters too of course and let’s not forget the tail as you have to “respect the tail” always.
As always I do highly recommend Trickster as well as all the Angelbound books to all fans of demons, ghouls, angels, monsters, and now tricksters. One click your copy of Trickster today to begin another exciting journey into Lincoln and Myla’s world.
I adore this couple, this world and seeing things through Lincoln’s eyes! Myla and Lincoln have had my heart from the very start of their adventures and nothing at all is easy or simple in their world – except their love.
Walking around in what amounts to Ms. Bauer’s imagination every time I pick up one of her stories is just the best! If you aren’t reading this series, you should be!
Can we 3-D print a Lincoln or ten? They’d be GREAT swag items.
“When it comes to fighting, everything’s more fun with a battle lion.”
Okay.. okay.. for real though. What does a supernatural white lion named Rufus, an orange monkey wizard named Peli, a human / angel hybrid prince named Lincoln, and a human / angel / demon hybrid warrioress with a dragonscale tail named Myla.. have in common?
You give up?
One PITA Earl of Acca who goes by Aldred. You know the type.. always scheming for more power and more status, yet doesn’t really know how to control what he already has. Mostly, he’s just a guy with an inferiority complex that thinks having more of everything means he wins.
All right.. fair enough. Usually finishing the competition with more does mean you win.. but in this guy’s case, I suspect even winning is losing.
‘Trickster’ by Christina Bauer is the third book in the Angelbound Lincoln series. It’s a rather light-hearted romp through some relatively dangerous situations. Mostly the levity is due to the ‘Emergency Snark Response’ system (as I like to call them), current Thraxian power couple Lincoln and Myla. He’s the prince and heir to the throne of a race of demon hunters.. and she’s currently the Great Scala.. the only being who can move souls to Heaven or Hell.
“I haven’t updated my demon notebooks in weeks. My father, the archangel Xavier, and I do that together. It’s like father-daughter scrapbooking only with demons and death. Good times.”
In my head, Aldred is always sort of like Eggman in the Sonic games. Loud and scheming, but also cowardly and worthless.. because his plans are never that well thought out and they always get blown to bits sooner or later. But that fact, along with the fast-paced story and the steady stream of ‘uh oh’ moments make the books so fun that even though they’re kind of silly, you want to keep reading.
None of the characters are what I’d call ‘deep,’ well.. except in this book.. and that’s Peli. Weird, I know. However, the writer knows her stuff. The story is linear, her foreshadowing is possibly overemphasized at times.. yet somehow still slow to reveal itself, and I kind of like seeing Myla sock it to the aristocrats.
“The answer is yes, but I don’t reply. Tirade time is not interactive.”
Where I think Bauer really excels, especially for a playful YA romance, is the world building. The main world that Lincoln and Myla reside in is a relatively creative build on the obvious theological ideas of Heaven, Hell, Purgatory, and the human realm.. with ghouls, angels, demons, and everything else in between.. making up its citizens.
This time there’s also a secondary world. The Primeval is the place that Rufus and Peli both originate from. Them.. and the Contagion. He’s the big nasty for this story.. a really nasty wizard in tree form, that Aldred thinks he can make some power gains from.
The Primeval is a pretty ambitious design for such a fun little story. It does have a world tree angle, which I always enjoy if it’s done well.. but other than that.. it’s split up into 5 segments, represented by 5 diverse races of people.. each with their own beliefs, traditions, fixations, and even vastly different landscapes. But there are things they share too.. some of which cause Lincoln and Myla more trouble than expected.
“Now, I’m prepared for death blows. Back stabs. Throat punches. I’ve just never had someone all-out donut-grab my boob before.”
Overall, it was a really entertaining read. Myla really does have a way with words. If you need something entertaining to get you through a rough mood or to act as a nice easy transitionary story between a couple of heavier titles, definitely pick this one up.
