Willa Knight: Dweller. Slave. Non-magical being. In Minatsol, being a dweller means that you are literally no better than dirt. In fact, dirt might actually be more useful than Willa. Her life will be one of servitude to the sols, the magic-blessed beings who could one day be chosen to become gods.At least her outer village is far removed from the cities of the sols, and she won’t ever be forced … she won’t ever be forced to present herself to them… Until one small mistake changes everything, and Willa is awarded a position to serve at Blesswood, the top sol academy in the world—a position that she definitely did not earn.
Under the sudden, watchful eye of the gods, she will be tasked to serve the Abcurse brothers, five sols built of arrogance, perfection and power. They are almost gods themselves, and under their service she is either going to end up sentenced to death, or else they are going to ruin her so badly that she will wish for it.
Either way, she is in trouble.
This is a full novel, 90,000 words. Book 1 of 5 in the Curse of the Gods Series

Kind of started this book a little late because I really hate waiting for a follow up book.
I honestly did not expect to enjoy this much, to be this humorous and swoony. Honestly, I barely tolerated reading books such as this unless it’s really interesting and highly entertaining. Plus bonus, it’s a Reverse Harem! Yay! Or rather, YUM…
Anyway, you’ve probably read the blurb already or of not uet, then I’m going to give you a gist of what this book is about.
The story involves a klutz (Willa Knight), a human in the world where gods and goddesses co-exist. Actually it was a world of human (the dwellers), pre-gods and goddesses (sols) and the gods and goddesses themselves. The dwellers spend their lives dedicating themselves to the sols in service to the gods, bevause hey, sols have the oppurtunity to be one of the gods and Willa, who accidentally ended up picked up to serve the sols who studies in Blesswood (school of the future gods), she was faced with a dilemma of being the target of five brothers, a set of twin and a set of triplets, mind you. What a girl to do? Right.
I like this Willa girl, really. She doesn’t annoy me being constantly in her head. She’s a perfect example of a walking disaster and it was just her luck that the brothers took a liking of her. The brothers though, me sigh long and dreamy.
I loved her interactions with the brothers, I am not sure if I want her with a single brother or with all of them. Probably all of them. I mean, come on, why not? Snorts.
I’m glad I already bought the second book but I gotta check if I have the others. I’m excited to see how this story will play out, just keeping my fingers crossed.
I really am thankful picking up this book out of random eeny-meeny-mini-mo selection I did after Amazon fucked up with the books gifted to me. I forgot I’m supposed to be pissed and close to losing it.
Anyways, gonna read the next book.
Set in a world where everyone’s role is set at birth; God, Sol, Dweller; Willa is an original. She may be classified as the lowest of dwellers, but they can’t contain her. She’s a pure mess, stumbling through life, wreaking havoc during every waking hour. The book begins with her village preparing to select two of their best to represent the village at Blesswood Academy where dwellers are sent annually to serve the Sol. Willa and her best friend/sister are chosen and their lives are now on a new course. Of course, Willa’s life doesn’t magically change. She’s still a mess, only now she’s around powerful people. She quickly catches the attention of the Abcurse brothers, Siret, Yael, Aros, Rome, and Coen or Trickery, Persuasion, Seduction, Strength, and Pain. The brothers have secrets of their own, but quickly they become the most important people in the world to Willa.
Jane is one of my favorite writers in the world. I’m openly obsessed with her books. She creates fantastic worlds and compelling stories filled with exceptional, stalk-worthy characters. I’m now embarrassed to say that this is the first book I have read of Jaymin’s, although that will change. I wasn’t sure how the collaboration would work, but the writing was seamless. These two meshed their styles together cleverly. I couldn’t tell who wrote what. They did an excellent job creating fully developed characters. Each brother has a distinct way with Willa and with each other. Great dynamics. The side characters are all nicely developed and add additional layers.
This story was entertaining, well-written, laugh out loud funny, and full of sexual tension. Any book with a lead female who has a “penchant for nudity”, falls on her ass or face as many times as Willa does, and carries on hysterical conversations in her head constantly even though her thoughts can be read is truly brilliant! Willa’s rambling, her thought process (the Jeffrey’s), and overall originality makes her one of the best female leads ever. Throw in 5 hot brothers to surround her and a bit of mystery, and now I have a new obsession. J & J, how soon can I get the next book??
I adore their ability to make me laugh so much when their characters. If you love reverse harems or just strong very clumsy main characters I suggest these books!
Fantastic book! It took the first two chapters for me to really get into it, but once I did–I loved it. The main character is just hilarious.
Absolutely hilarious!!
This was one of the most fun books I’ve ever read. Willa, the MC is crazy. I love her. The guys are kinda crazy too, but she baffles them and its fun to watch them try to figure her out.
One of the best series out there.
I absolutely LOVED this book. I’ve read it so many times . Willa now has a permanent residence on my “Favorite Characters Of All Time” list.
Bravo, Jane Washington and Jaymin Eve. Bravo.
Absolutely loved it and was happy to see it was part of a series!
It takes a few chapters to get the story rolling but then you’re hooked! Willa is so funny and witty! You fall in love with all of the characters and won’t put it down!
I’m absolutely in love with this series. It’s hilarious and filled with action and romance as well as some tears. Perfection is what this series is. Can’t wait for more!
Great first book! Willa is clumsy, sassy and hilarious. The Abcurses are cocky jerks in the beginning. An angry God is after Willa after her clumsiness gets her into some trouble with the boys. The Abcurses protect her and pull her into their circle. Willa’s clumsiness knows no bounds to the point that she causes chaos and ends up naked or semi naked a lot, she does a lot without thinking and just reacts and I love it! On to Persuasion book 2 to find out what happens with Willa, Emmy and the Abcurses!
Have you ever been waiting to find a new series, reading one average book after the next hoping for that excitement when something really delightful unfolds before you? The Curse of the Gods Series had me giggling with anticipation that the weekend was upon me. I ended up purchasing the audibles as well so I could continue the story while driving. Funny, delightful characters with dialogue that translates well when read aloud. I have gorged into book 3 in the last three days and will only stop because the final book isn’t out yet. If you love clever storylines, lovable characters, adventure and well designed worlds – this series and these authors are a Must Read for you.
The authors weave such a strong visual of the world. I couldn’t help but love the clumsy, slightly sarcastic Willa and each of the men’s individual personalities. There were moments I was laughing out loud at this book while my family looked at me like I was crazy! I literally could not put this down. The pace is fantastic and there isn’t a lull in action. I have already purchased book 2 and can’t wait to read it.
I don’t…… understand….. what just happened????? I’m just… SO CONFUSED. This book was recommended to me by several different platforms. Goodreads, Bookbub, Amazon, Audible… And I finally threw in the towel just so I could stop seeing it everywhere. Plus, I was pretty intrigued by the Greek gods thing because you just don’t see that a lot outside of the Percy Jackson books. I knew nothing about it and I definitely didn’t know this was about a reverse harem, which is probably good because then I never would have picked it up if I had.
…. Okay I’m sorry, but this book is terrible. THERE. I SAID IT. Right about now you’re looking at my star rating and thinking, four stars is terrible???? REALLY??
Look, I KNOW. Didn’t I say that I was confused?? The story isn’t that spectacular. There are tropes galore. Willa can be kind of dumb. Someone is always falling or yelling or bleeding. There’s a love HEXAGON. But this book IS. SO. FUNNY. I laughed so much during this entire thing that it’s blinding me a little. It seems like Trickery knows exactly how ridiculous it is and plays into it SUPER well. The banter and inner-monologues that happen are top-notch. And that scene between Willa and the servant Jeffrey had me in STITCHES y’all.
FINAL WORD
This book is just plain fun. If you want a little bit of romance and a laugh, DEFINITELY try this. I’m both ashamed and proud to admit I’ll totally be continuing on to the next book.
I also just really really really want someone else to read this so I can talk about it with another person. Lol.
Trickery a Five-star read that will have you cursing. Trickery by Jaymin Eve and Jane Washington is the first book in the Curse of the Gods series, its set in a world where the Gods live in a mystical and dreamlike place called Topia, and then the Sols who are god like people who will eventually hope to be lucky enough to be selected to become Gods after they die, they live in a place called Minatsol, then you have the dwellers that live in the outer ring villages, dwellers are little more than dirt people who are essentially slaves who strive to be selected to serve. There are nine ring villages and they get more desperate the further out you go, Emmanuel and Willa Knight are chosen by their village leader to be selected to go and work at Blesswood, an academy for the sols to be trained to become better sols so they increase their chances at becoming gods. But there are several problems with this Emmanuel who goes by Emmy is a clear choice to go as she is a top student and hard worker, but her adopted sister changed their names and mad them official sisters while changing something else to cover for her mistakes, that are due to her curse of clumsiness, at least that’s her excuse and she’s sticking to it.
When they arrive at Blesswood the top Sol academy, they meet the five brothers that seem to rule the roost, and despite everyone telling them to stay of their radar, Willa can’t seem to help herself and ends up getting acquainted with the Abcurse brothers who are all gifted sols, she gets so acquainted with them she even gives them nicknames 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. This causes much chaos between the brothers are they are all fiercely competitive, just like kids and puppies, I know you shouldn’t have a favourite but I could help myself, one of the five has wormed his way in a little deeper in my heart than the others. I dare you not to have a favourite. Even though they are big scary Sols they are still boys, who like to cause and create trouble. When Willa must serve them, with her chaos and their trouble, who knows what they will end up doing!!
This book was so funny I couldn’t stop laughing out loud, my husband kept staring at me as I kept disturbing him. I loved it, I love Jaymin Eve and have read everything she has written, now I am going to have to go buy all of Jane Washington’s books to keep me going until the next book in the series is released!!! Damn you Abcurse brothers for being so well written. I can’t wait to read more of Willa’s story to see what craziness she will cause next.
P.S. Jaymin and Jane of you ever read this, stop reading and get writing…. Please.
I put off reading this even though it had been recommended to me several times. Boy was I sorry! I fell in love with Willa almost instantly. She’s so much trouble, but in a good way. I read all the others that are out immediately and am now impatiently waiting on the next one! Definitely don’t wait, read this one!
Oh my, I picked up this book because I enjoyed Jaymin Even’s Supernatural Prison series. This book that she wrote with Jane Washington is wonderful! So funny and original. I loved the clumsy heroine Willa, the Abcurse brothers and the world. I can’t wait to see where this story takes us! I loved this first book in the Curse of the Gods series. I will also look up Jane Washington’s books, she is new to me.
This book is awesome! Haven’t ever read a book that made me laugh so much. Absolutely enthralling! Couldn’t put it down.
I loved this book, and the whole series! So very anxious for the next one in the series to come out–hurry please! The main character makes me actually laugh out loud, the boys are smokin’ hot, the whole dynamic between the 6 main characters is steamy and fun and completely enjoyable to read!
First book I couldn’t get through in a long time. Can’t say why. Just didn’t grab me.
