He Might Save Her

Former police psychologist Ronni Alexander had it all before a poison attacked her heart and gave her a death sentence. Now, on her last leg, she has an opportunity to live if she mates a vampire. A real vampire. One night of sex and a good bite, and she’d live forever with no more weaknesses. Well, except for the vampire whose dominance is over the top, and who … has no clue how to deal with a modern woman who can take care of herself. She Might Kill Him Jared Reese, who has no intention of ever mating for anything other than convenience, agrees to help out his new sister in law by saving her friend’s life with a quick tussle in bed. The plan seems so simple. They’d mate, and he move on with his life and take risks as a modern pirate should. Except after one night with Ronni, one moment of her sighing his name, and he wants more than a mating of convenience. Now all he has to do is convince Ronni she wants the same thing. Good thing he’s up for a good battle.

In between full length books numbers 7 and 8 in the Dark Protector series, the author released three novellas featuring the Reese brothers. These novellas are as follows:
1. Teased – book #7.5 – Chalton Reese’s book;
2. Tricked – book #7.75 – Jared Reese’s book; and
3. Tangled – book #7.8 – Theo Reese’s book.
It’s obvious after reading this second novella, that it would be best to read these in order.
I liked that Jared was so tough and determined with Ronni. He believed he was only helping to save her life, and never dreamt he would develop feelings for Ronni after mating. Jared was surprised, but decided quickly he wanted to see where things between them could go.
Ronni was a little more stubborn, and incorrectly assumed Jared would disappear after the mating. I liked that she didn’t fight the attraction too hard and it was funny watching her attempt to stand up to the big bad vampire. My problem is that because these stories are so short, their relationship felt more insta-love than it did fall in love. There were a couple of conflicts to deal with. I appreciated that Ronni and Jared pretty much stayed united as a team so there weren’t any unnecessary drama issues between them. The ending was a bit cheesy, but I plan to finish reading this series.
Jared agrees to mate Veronica (Ronni) to save her. After the mating is complete he realizes she isn’t a weak willed woman who will just wait at home. He is constantly tracking her down and trying to protect here because she won’t protect herself. While trying to figure out who poisoned her and dealing with his ex-girlfriend, Jared realizes he has fallen in love with Veronica and will do anything to keep her.
I really liked Ronni. She had been poisoned, was dying, and she was still trying to figure out who did it. She was tough and wasn’t afraid to get into a fist fight over her man. Jared was an overbearing and protective vampire, much like Chalton. I liked him but I felt he needed a little more character development.
Overall, I am really enjoying these novellas of the Reese brothers. Now to see Theo fall in love.
3.5 stars
Another quick read that drew me in immediately. Ronni and Jared have instant chemistry even though they both initially believe they are mating to save Ronni’s life and nothing else. It’s very obvious they’re both trying to ignore the pull between them.
I really appreciate that Jared never really had feelings of being pulled in two directions when Ginny made her way onto the scene. Regardless if he thought Ronni was meant to be his mate or not, he is a very loyal person. It honestly made me swoon for him.
Ronni’s story and how that ends up playing out was a bit convoluted for me. I know, I know, this is a paranormal romance. It’s not supposed to be realistic. But, it’s been my experience with this author that I can see all of her scenarios playing out in a world we mere humans are unaware of. The way things happened didn’t hold true of what I would expect from the Reese brothers or their friends. There’s only so much an author can do with a little more than 100 pages though, and everything else was great, so I can overlook my skepticism…for the most part.
As much as I was NOT a fan of Ginny, I’m curious to see how her story plays out in the next book. I’m sure I’ll find a way to sympathize with her once I know why she does what she does.

4.5 Tricked out stars
We met Ronni and Jared in the first book of this Reese family series by Rebecca and I have to say, each one keeps getting better and better. This one has a little more action than the first story between Chalton and Olivia and has a bit more mystery to it as well.
Ronni or Veronica as Jared likes to call her, is on her last leg as her heart is failing. Olivia tries to get information to help her and ends up in the path of vampires. With a promise from the King, Jared steps up to mate her. However, his past comes knocking but Ronni’s present leaves danger surrounding them as well
Awesome story and I look forward to the next Reese brother
I really liked Jared and Veronica and enjoyed their story.
A quick and easy read that was enjoyable enough. Personally, I found Jared an arrogant, obnoxious @$$ but whatever. Onto the next brother. hopefully, there’s a better story there.
Okay don’t know what is going on with these last two novellas but I am just not feeling them. There was something missing in both Reese brothers’ books. I just didn’t feel that special something that made me connect. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t a bad read, it just wasn’t that great awesome read I am so use to with Rebecca Zanetti, who in my eyes is amazing. I seen that there is a novella coming out in 2017 named Talen. I can’t find any info on it but I can’t wait to get my hands on it either way. Talen is always a win with me!
