MM are the queens of rom-com and Trick Play is no exception!!
Cam is the tight end for the Mavericks. Trixie is a stripper that he can’t get enough of but she’s really so much more than that. After the introduction, I knew that Trick Play was going to be WILD and it definitely was. I was hooked to plot and couldn’t figure out where it was going. I loved the bit of mystery, suspense, and angst in this book that you don’t typically get in MM rom-coms.
I love the Mavericks series and I’m really looking forward to the next book in this series!!

4.5 stars
I really love a good sports romance! This one is about Cam Mitchell, the Mavericks Tight End!
This book had me wondering what may eventuate between him and a stripper, two people from very different worlds, or are they? Not all is as it seems!!
I really enjoyed this story! The banter, the steamy moments and the family and friends surrounding Cam and Lana!
Cam is a man who goes after what he wants but does Lana’s job get in the way!!?
I can’t wait to see what more is in store from the authors! Go 1-click right now!
My heart, I tell ya, my heart is swooning! I’m always excited when a Max Monroe book lands on my Kindle, but I was especially excited for this one. This whole series has been so amazing, but I have to say that Trick Play is the best of them all. It’s got MM’s signature rom-com humor mixed with sizzle, but in this case, there’s an added layer of emotional feels.
This time it’s Cameron Mitchell’s turn to fall hard for a special lady. Cam’s a special guy on a team full of football gods. He’s their tight end (cue the snickering jokes about HIS tight end) and is pretty darn confident about it. “God, he was so confident. Too confident. Like he’d had ten too man years getting everything he’d gone after and then some.” But, at his heart, he’s a great guy with an innate sweetness that only true gentlemen have.
Then he meets this mysterious woman at the strip club where the guys have taken Quinn for his bachelor party. And he can’t get her off his mind. This woman “was sex and innocence, and was the perfect combination of the two.” And to top it all off, she won’t give him her real name, so the only way he can track her down is to make himself really comfortable at the club, so he can spend time with her, hopefully to get to know her. And soon, they’re indulging in hot romps at his home, but she always holds something of herself back from him. She even tries running from him a couple times. But Cam is nothing if not persistent when he wants something, and Lana (Trixie) is what he wants. If only she’d open up completely and let him know all of her, the real Lana. Not the stripper he met at the club, the real woman he gets glimpses of.
Lana, gah, that woman was so frustrating! She had this big secret and I knew when it came out it was going to hurt Cam, and it did. Badly. She could have just been honest, but she was raised by men who lived for their jobs, and it made her the same way. Thank God her dad gave her a good lecture to get her head straight. And when she made up to Cam and apologized? Oh swoon. So sweet!
These two were perfect for each other, with his quoting Notting Hill and her loving Dirty Dancing.
And then that sweet, amazingly swoon worthy ending. Sheesh, I think my heart exploded from all the sweetness!
Max Monroe has raised the bar with Trick Play. I can only imagine where they’re taking us next!
When Cam sees Trixie at his teammates bachelor party at the strip club, he is instantly attracted to her. Trixie has secrets she can’t let Cam know. She is equally interested in him but has to guard herself.
Super hot read. Cam is adorable and sweet. For a big football player he is a softy. Trixie is determined to finish what she started. It was great catching up with the previous players. Trixie’s family was a riot. This is a stand-alone book, but it is best enjoyed with the other books in the series. The other two books are delightful.
The book has Max Monroe’s trademark humor. There is a more serious story line in addition to the fun. Great book!
I dare you to pick up this book and not fall in love with Cam Mitchell by the end of the prologue.
I dare you.
The truth is, that’s an impossibility. Cam is insanely lovable with the perfect amount of wit, charm, cockiness, and sex appeal. And even more than all that, he has the best heart. His ‘amazingness’ leapt off the pages and pulled you in. He’s a perfect blend of alpha and sweet, knowing when to take the lead and when to hold back. He also leads with his heart, which can sometimes get him into trouble.
Lana is definitely more than she appears. She’s much stronger, much tougher than you would think, but it suits her well. Her personality fits well with Cam’s and it’s easy for them to get lost in the moments they have together. The whole world around them tends to stop. And no matter how tough her resolve, she can’t resist the irresistible.
From the moment I dove into this story I couldn’t get enough. Their journey hooked me from the beginning and I couldn’t stop reading it until I was finished. Love, lust, secrets, and truths are all abundant in this story and it definitely pulled me through all the feels. Catching up with some of our other favorite Mavericks was fun too.
This is absolutely a fun and witty five-star read!
Max Monroe definitely score a touchdown with their latest installment of Mavericks Tackle Love, Trick Play. It has all the things I look forward to…..witty banter, humorous internal dialogue and steamy sexy times. This is Cam’s story. There is just so much to love about him. Who knew his life would be changed at a strip club, where he defends and falls for Trixie, the stripper. Plot twist!!!! Just do yourself a favor and one-click this book!!
Another touchdown by Max Monroe that I didn’t want too put down. I love Quinn Bailey but Cam Mitchell took his spot. An amazing story, with amazing characters that will have you swoon, get emotional and will definitely have you rooting for Cam & Lana. I absolutely love this series and can’t wait too tackle the next book when it comes out.
Cam Mitchell has stayed good. Never one hair out of place when it comes to his team. But then a raven haired girl came and blew everything he knew to smithers. He loses his self when he thinks about her and he thinks about her A LOT.
The kicker is he doesn’t even know her real name. A fake name and the shady place where she works, that’s all he has. But he is determined and he knows how to win. He’ll win his girl and then unravel all the secrets that she hides in her eyes. GAME ON!
You guys don’t even know what y’all are in for with this book.
I never hesitate in saying that Quinn is my most favourite Maverick but then Cam came along and I was like Quinn who now? (not really. Quinn baby I love you so much) Cam is such an adorable being that I don’t even know how he came into being. I was constantly swooning over him and all he was doing was looking at his Trixie. I cry for the way he instantly fell for her. My heart broke when he thought Trixie didn’t love him. And I cried again when he realized that she loves him the same way he loves her.
I just want this beautiful man to have all the happiness in the World.
Trixie was a bit hard to like. I mean I loved the way she busted Cam but I wanted to shake her and accept his love and his future babies. I know I know she had her secrets and her worries, I wanted to push her into his arms. SUE ME!
AHHH!! This story has my heart and soul and I seriously cannot wait for more in this series.
Oh Max Monroe does it again!!! I love a great football romance and the Mavericks series hasn’t disappointed. Just when you think you have encountered the best Maverick another story comes out! Cam and Lana’s story was so unique but so awesome! Cam had a great example of love through his mom and dad and has gotten to the point he wants the same. Lana was pretty much raised by males and thinks work should always be number one. The battles of wills in this book is awesome. I enjoyed seeing Cam’s and Lana’s story come about. Great read. Completely recommend!
4.5*
So fun and sweet and swoony, and Cam is quite delicious. He and Trixie have so much chemistry, sweet lord have mercy! But more than that, they had a great connection. I enjoyed their banter and the back and forth, the teasing.
I really liked that Cam didn’t shy away from Trixie because of her career choice. It didn’t deter him from pursuing her and I think that showed a lot about his character, because it’s not every day a man would be so accepting of the woman he cared about dancing for other men!
Full disclosure, I have a bit of a girl crush on Trixie. She’s feisty and a badass and next to Cassie might just be my favorite MM heroine. And I just flat out have a crush on Cam. He just too freaking adorable for words.
Trick Play is everything I adore about a Max Monroe book, but what I loved best was that not everything was as it seemed in this one. They pulled a little trickery that I wasn’t expecting and totally nailed it!
Although Trick Play is the third book in the Mavericks series, this can easily be read as a stand-alone so don’t let that dissuade you. Although if you haven’t read the first two books, what on earth are you waiting for?!?!
So I swear, every time I read a Max Monroe book, I find a new girl-crush and book-boyfriend. Well, true to form, Trick Play was no different. Lana/Trixie is amazing (and aside from the whole having to be a stripper part, I might want to be her when I grow up) and Cam is just AMAZING!! He’s totally swoon-worthy and he’s not some man-whore professional athlete. I love how he fell for “Lana” (as opposed to Trixie) and how he treated her throughout the book.
Circumstances being what they were, definitely lead to some drama and a bit more angst than I was expecting from a Max Monroe RomCom, but certainly nothing over-the-top. Overall, it run the gamut from sweet and swoony to emotional without being unbelievable.
And while I love a good epilogue, I think this is one of my favorites of all time. I swear I laughed out loud more than I had in days while I was reading it. All I can say is that I hope we see a few more of those secondary characters in upcoming books.
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
5 OUT OF 5 STARS
Every time I hear that the amazing duo Max Monroe are scheduled to release something, I start getting really antsy. They are by far my favorite duo in the world. Every single book that they have wrote, I fall head over heels for. I HIGHLY recommend them to everyone. They can pretty much write a book about a box, and a shoe and I would read it, because some way some how they tend to grab my attention and keep it there. I have no idea how they come up with some of the antics. Both Max and Monroe could legitimately be comedians. Trick Play was freaking hilarious. Like epic. Amazing. Like rainbows and unicorns. And utterly adorable. Like puppies. You get my drift, this is one story you do not want to miss, especially because it involves a tight end.. cough…. get your mind out of the gutter, this tight end is on the football field.
Cameron Mitchell.. Good golly. What is not to love about this man? He is like this huge teddy bear that is so tuned into his feelings, and is not afraid to show it. He is super sweet and knows what he wants. He is such a good guy.
Trixie is a raven haired beauty that can work a pole better than anyone in the industry. She is super smart, and knows how to use her body to get what she wants. She is tough and sassy as heck.
This story was more than a Rom-Com, more than just about a tight end, and no I am not going to get into specifics. Let Cam and Trixie tell their story in their own words. But know this going in, you are in for a couple of surprises. This book will suck you in so fast, you won’t even realize it.
If I want to read a sexy romantic comedy with unforgettable characters, I know Max Monroe is a sure bet. This author duo never disappoints, and Trick Play is just as entertaining as expected. Cam is a lovable blend of studly football player and charming goofball, and he is incredibly endearing as he falls for Trixie and pursues her. He never gives her grief for being a stripper, even though a relationship with her would probably not sit well with his employer due to potential public relations problems. Of course, there is far more to Trixie than dancing, and Cam’s ability to see this gives Trick Play a heartwarming, sweet vibe that makes it feel truly romantic. Max Monroe continues to wow me with their ability to write fresh, hilarious and feel-good romance with a unique twist, which makes each of their books stand out as truly one of a kind.

ARC provided, but this review was voluntarily and honestly written.
The third installment of the Mavericks Tackle Love series by Max Monroe brings us the story of Tight End Cam Mitchell. What should have been a fun night out celebrating QB’s Bachelor Party, with Cam ‘sacrificing’ himself to receive all the lap dances so that Quinn’s fiancée wouldn’t get upset, ended abruptly when he ended up in handcuffs for standing up for one of the dancers from unwanted advances from another patron.
The dancer’s name is Lana ‘Trixie’ Simone, or just “Trixie” to Cam. Trixie totally intrigues Cam and he wants more. There’s a pretty big reason Trixie is keeping herself a mystery. Let’s just say she’s leading a double life and it’s starting to take its toll on her. The big question is once she reveals who she really is will Cam still feel the same way?
“I sound like a man, standing in front of another man, just asking him to understand his dilemma with his dog.”
Max Monroe surprised me with a parody of one of my favorite lines from Notting Hill. Far warning that if you’re a lover of the movie, it’s not available on Netflix or Amazon Prime to stream.
Another testosterone filled, fun book by the authors Max Monroe. Happy Reading!
4.5 stars!
Seriously, I don’t think there’s anything that Max Monroe can write that isn’t a hit.
I have two things to say about this book:
First – where the heck was I when the first two in the Mavericks were released? I have some catching up to do!!
Second – Cam. He may have risen to the top of favorite book boyfriends. Ever.
He’s charming, persistent, funny, and doesn’t let a little thing like the fact that he found his soulmate at a strip club during Quinn’s bachelor party. Oh no. He calls. He visits. He breaks her down.
Trixie/Lana is everything in a leading lady – accomplished, sexy, and full of secrets. Her extended family is hilarious!! I just want to have Sunday dinner with them and watch the banter.
I can’t imagine how Quinn and Sean can top Cam, but I’m diving into those two this week.
Oh Cam. I’m just a girl. Standing in front of a book boyfriend. Asking him to forever be the standard for all other book boyfriends.
I think this is my favorite of the Mavericks series so far. I was thinking that Kat and QB would remain at the top of my list but Lana and Cam took me by surprise and rocketed to the top. Lana is smart, sexy and a badass. Cam is self-assured and sweet. The two together are the perfect combination when Lana lets her guard down enough to let him in. Another touchdown for Max Monroe!
Best book of the series, so far! Leo better step up or he won’t even come close to Cam and Lana!
I was on the edge of my seat for a little while, there. This definitely had a little Stone Cold Fox Trilogy vibe to it. And then everything went light-hearted and fun again. I love reading books that can pull you in from the first word.
Trick Play is book three in the series and might be my new favorite! I loved loved Cam, he was cocky, sexy and sweet! Lana/ Trixie was awesome as well! Cam and Lana had amazing chemistry and scorching sexy scenes! Loved loved them together!! I loved the banter and friendship in this. This book had me laughing alot!! Definitely recommend this series and every other book written by this duo!!
A stripper and a football player meet at a bar.
Uh, no, that’s NOT the opening line of a joke. Trixie and Cam meet at a bar. A strip bar to be exact. And whoa, do the sparks fly!
I have adored Cam Mitchell from the very first time I met him in Wildcat and I couldn’t wait until it was his turn to find love. And holy moly does love come banging on his door! Or maybe thumping through a heavy bassline, is more accurate.
Trixie. Damn. I have a serious girl crush on this woman. Tough as nails. Strong minded, strong willed, sexy as hell. I devoured every scene she was in—loved her interactions with her co-workers and her family. She is no pushover in life or love.
Speaking of love. There’s a whole lot of love going on between Cam and Trixie. I loved watching Cam and Trixie fall in love. Even without really knowing each other, there’s an undeniable attraction, a connection. And wow is amazing. They’re fantastic together in and out of the bedroom. *fans self*
I couldn’t get to the end of Trick Play fast enough to see how Cam and Trixie’s story unfolded. Then, of course, as I got to the last few pages, I hated for the story to end. That’s the mark of an excellent book! Which Trick Play is exactly that—excellent!
Have I ever said how much I love this Series? Just when you think you could not love these guys more… Here comes Cam… SWOON. He is cocky, arrogant, full of himself, sweet and just sexy all in one. He also has one amazing personality. Do I dare say he is my favorite Maverick?
There is MUCH more to Cam then meets the eye. He and the boys go to Skins, a local strip club, where he meets Trixie. Taking one for the team he gets a lap dance or 2 ;). He is instantly drawn to her.. EVERYTHING about her. Let me just say the night is eventful and they both get more than they bargained for.
These 2 have some off the chart chemistry. Can Cam win her over? What is she so afraid of? Can she let her guard down? Let me just say that her family is amazing.. They are so full of fun and humor. You will find yourself laughing out loud and feeling part of the family.
It was also great to see how the other Mavericks are coming along.. They also harbor a few surprises ;). Will Cam find his happily ever after?
Like ALL of these books… Trick Play is a must read…. AMAZING…
