Author Mary Morgan has built a wonderfully real fantasy world where the human and Fae work to keep both worlds safe. In her previous series, Order of The Dragon Knights where five warriors are on paths of redemption, quests to gain favor again with the Fae, this series, Legends of the Fenian Warriors, continues with quests of the Fenian Warriors, those very Fae who helped the Dragon Knights. The warriors broke laws, so severely wrong, they are facing death. Two of the three have already completed their quests (book 1 & 2). Liam MacGregor must now face his due punishment.
Liam, imprisoned really has lost hope. He knows what he did broke Fae laws. One wee princess, Abela, changes all for him.
Princess Abela, sister to Conn, the prince of the Fae and eventually in line to be King, had chosen to be a daughter of Mother Danu. She has lived much of her life in the temple where knowledge of what is happening outside the walls is rarely heard. She preferred it that way. She had buried her love for Liam MacGregor in the bosom of the Mother when she did not capture his heart as he had captured hers. She entered into the priesthood and Liam became a Fenian Warrior. Much time has passed and they both moved forward – or so they thought.
I love this princess because she has so many sides of who she is. She’s a warrior, innately curious about the human world, simply because Liam spends much of his life protecting and guiding the humans. She’s courageous and not afraid to do something quite unethical as we experience with her breaking in to where Liam is imprisoned and breaking him out. Her love for him (which she finally admits to herself) has her saving his life, even when she very likely forfeits her own.
Both Liam and Abela are unwilling to speak of their love for each other for their past together makes them wary. They plan on changing the timeline, rewrite or amend a law. They are already slated for death, so why not try to amend the past? Their quest is filled with hardship. Abela is unschooled in the power she has and this doesn’t make it easy to complete their quest and Liam has none of his powers, taken away when sent to prison.
Liam and Abela have heated discussions which are rather edifying. If Abela is unable to continue to cloak their whereabouts, their mission will end before it’s begun, and both will be punished by death.
This tale will push all your buttons—highly emotionally charged where much is at stake – including lives. You will love how Abela is very much a princess, priestess and warrior. Liam is ever the honorable warrior. He must return her to the Fae Realm for physically she can’t remain long in the human world, not like the Fenian Warriors. Will Liam, faced with all the obstacles they encounter, get her back in time? Will she, too, face certain death, even though the sister of the prince?
Morgan has created an exciting, nail-biting story, where a surprise awaits the reader. No spoilers here, but this is jaw-dropping stuff! If you haven’t read Morgan’s other series, do yourself a favor, you won’t regret the journey and it will give you better insight to Morgan’s world.
I absolutely loved this story. I began this book when I went to bed thinking I would just get it started and finish it the following day, well there was no putting it down once I began. It was so captivating and I was so excited that Liam and Abela were the hero and heroine in the story. Little did I know that by the end I would have gone through half a box of tissues and have my husband wondering what I was crying about! Lol! There are many characters we get to see from earlier books, which I loved, and some new revelations which were a surprise. I loved everything about this story and will definitely be reading this one over again. My recommendation is to make sure you take enough time to be able to sit and relax with a box of tissues and your favorite refreshments and enjoy this fabulous book!
The Fae have always intrigued me, and this book fed my imagination. A feisty princess and a sexy warrior match wits in this magical world while falling deeply in love. The book simmers with unquenched desire as danger surrounds Liam & Arabela. Great story I highly recommend!

Liam is at peace with his impending death. But there is someone who’s ready to defy all, including the King, to free him. He’s reluctant at first to escape with his rescuer but does so in the hopes of changing Fae law. When he discovers who has risked it all, his heart nearly stops. It’s Princess Abela, the woman who captured his soul long ago, long before he became a Fenian Warrior. They travel the Veil in search of changing history but cannot deny their long-buried feelings anymore. Political allies become enemies but that doesn’t stop Liam. There’s only one being who’ll stop Liam: Abela’s brother. When he finally catches up with Liam, will he thrust his sword through Liam’s chest or will he see the love Liam and Abela share?
From the first page, my heart went out to Liam. Sworn to uphold the law, he crossed the line and did what he thought must be done in order to save a life. His strength is obvious (hello warrior) but what isn’t so apparent is his love for a certain princess. He has a softer side which made me swoon on more than a couple occasions. His inner battle is put to the test when she is ripped from his side. In his grief, he’s lost without her. He does the unthinkable and my heart broke into a million pieces.
Mary Morgan has penned such an emotional fantasy romance, I cried. The journey Liam and Abela must take will tug at your heartstrings. Keep tissues handy.
A moving tale, Trial of a Warrior is a forbidden romance with warring races, treachery and deceit. Twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat as I whipped through the pages. The ending shocked me but don’t worry, there’s a HEA. One of the best books I’ve ever read.
Favorite Character/Quote: “Stone me, flog and strip the skin from my bones, but do not leave me in this pit of despair and silence. I am ready for my death. Let it be done!”
My Rating: 5+ stars
Fantasy comes to life in this sensational fairytale romance where the characters are strong, convincing and steal the hearts of readers. Liam and Abela are characters that are easily connected to and they draw readers into their story. The romance between them is the stuff of fairytales and dreams as they both have hidden their feelings down deep due to the direction their lives have taken and readers can’t help but become completely taken with them both as they set out to change their world and forge a new path. The attraction sizzles between them but their road is fraught with danger and emotional turmoil which keeps readers in suspense throughout their adventure.
The plot is fast paced and full of twists and turns that adds to the intense emotions and thrilling excitement of the story which keeps readers glued to the pages. The story is further enhanced by betrayals and the ‘race against time’ factor that holds Abela and Liam’s quest in its grasp also has Abela’s life hanging in the balance. This romance captures the hearts of readers and has them fully engaged in the story both emotionally and adventurously and the author’s wonderful story telling gift ensures that readers can easily imagine each and every scene while visiting this fascinating world.
Wow, such a powerful and surprising story. This unites both of Mary’s series and introduces a new order of Fenian Warriors as well as Dragon Knights. I adore the world of Mary’s stories. The quest is epic and loaded with adventure.
Liam MacGregor, the third of the Fenian Warriors who traveled the veil without the permission, is in “prison” awaiting his trial and execution. He is unaware that his brothers have each faced a journey to redemption themselves. Long ago he and Princess Abela fell in forbidden love. He chose the Brotherhood and she to be a Priestess to Mother Danu. Abela won’t allow him to die so she uses her powers and frees him from prison knowing both have to run for their lives. Since she possesses Conn’s Stone Of Ages she can transport them through the Veil of Ages to accomplish her plan. Unfortunately unknown to both of them each time she moves through time her life fades and she will die in the human realm if she stays. Her plan is to amend the Feahan Treaty to allow the Warriors to transport others in emergencies that will remove his death sentence. Their quest it to collect all three copies of the treaty in the human realm and present them to the Fae Council for amendment. Such an epic journey and we visit with old friends from previous books. We discover there’s a traitor on the Fae Council, a purist Tulare, and a new bloodline of Dragon Knights emerging in present day. In Mary’s capable hands this story is expertly woven and epic with delightful adventure. Thank you Mary and Wild Rose Press for the opportunity to review this book.
Fenian Warrior, Liam MacGregor is awaiting his trial and probable death sentence. He can see no possible way to survive. That is until a masked figure appears in his cell.
Fae Princess Abela cannot allow Liam to die. She will defy all the laws of the realm to save him.
This is a very exciting story full of danger and magical journeys. We get to visit some old friends from previous books , but you don’t need to have read them to enjoy this one. It will however tempt you into buying and reading the rest. You will need to keep the tissues handy there are some very emotional scenes. Our fabulous characters face some terrible times with the threat of death over them the whole time.
I loved it.
An amazing addition to the Legends of the Fenian Warriors. Those who helped the Dragon Knights and severely broke the law, they are facing death. This story is about Liam MacGregor, one of those warriors, who is now imprisoned awaiting his punishment. Having lost all hope, of all the Fae, Abela, a warrior princess breaks in and helps him escape. Now there is a history between these two from years ago when Liam had won her heart but she knew he did not return her feelings. What? No he really had feelings for her just as she for him.
Now the adventure begins. There were so many strong emotions when so much is at risk, including lives, that I was on the edge of my seat as I turned the pages! Yes tearfully and tense, they face so many obstacles and with Abela needing to return to her people in the Fae Realm. Will she make it back in time or will she too face death?
Another excellent story by Mary Morgan in this incredible world she has created that will engage your senses and leave you ready for the next book in this series!!
Book three in the Legends of the Fenian Warriors series by an Author I have not read before. A well written story that once I started I was not putting down. Fenian Warrior, Liam MacGregor has been sentenced to die but Princess Abela will not allow it. This book have you needing to have Kleenex near by. I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I wish I could rate this story with more than 5 stars! Words cannot describe how much I enjoyed reading Liam’s and Abela’s story. Their love and passion for each other is the stuff legends are made of and by adding the magical world of the Fae, this story is breathtaking. Mary Morgan never ceases to amaze me with her storytelling and this series just keeps getting better and better….if that’s possible!
Fenian Warrior, Liam MacGregor, and Princess Abela’s adventure bring them to the human world, not realizing that Abela cannot survive for long in that world, until it’s almost too late. During their travels, they finally admit their love for each other and the passion they share is exquisite. Reality, though, has a way of interfering….having helped Liam escape out of his prison, Abela knows that both of them will be punished on their return but she will do anything to save Liam and vice versa. In their quest to secure a treaty that will save Liam, their journey is fraught with danger and intrigue. Can they prevent a war from happening between the Fae and the human worlds?

Mary Morgan blows me away with her tales of time traveling Scottish heroes. In this story the Fenian warrior, Liam MacGregor is sentenced to death. While waiting for his fate, a past love, Princess Abela, risks all to break him out and take him on a journey to save his life. The consequences are unimaginable. It’s a must-read. My question is–what does this outstanding author have in store for us next. I’m addicted.
Warrior Liam MacGregor and Princess Abela are fighting to save his life, stop a war , and find their heart’s destiny . Welcome back into the Realm of the Fae and the Fenian Warriors with this tale in which you won’t want to put down. Excellent addition to the Fae you will fall in love with.
Ebook from Netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
What would you do if the one person you love is sentenced to die? Would you find another? Or possibly become recluse? How about going against the King, and do whatever it takes to save that person. Even lose your life ? Priestess Abela has loved Liam for eons and she will do whatever it takes. She gives up her calling with Mother Danube, and save the only man she has ever loved. But at what cost?
Liam has no idea who is helping him escape and at this point it didn’t matter, he knew there would be consequences especially after he discovers who is helping. He has loved Abela ever since the he seen her at the pond and for over a hundred years could not get his mind off of her. He noticed she is getting weak being on earth, and doesn’t understand why. And someone is trying to over through the kingdom, but who.
Conn is fit to be tied knowing Liam is with his sister and he will punish him. Or worse… Had to laugh he acted like a spoiled brat.
It was good to see Order of the Dragon Knights. and their mates.
Will Abela have her love and her life? Will Liam have his life?
Come read the story of how it all intertwines, see their destiny.
I loved this story with all the emotions of loss, trust, hope, and forgiveness plays out in this wonderful story by Mary Morgan.
I was given this book by the author and choose to give a review. I do recommend all of her books who loves history and fantasy, and oh yes romance.
Trial of a Warrior is the third book in Legends of the Fenian Warriors. The hero, Fenian Warrior Liam MacGregor is sentenced to death for breaking a sacred Fae Law. A fate he is willing to accept. However, Princess Abela has other ideas. She is willing to sacrifice duty and honor to save the man who captured her heart years ago. To say Liam doesn’t like her plan is a gross understatement not to mention travel through the Veil of Ages puts them both at risk.
Princess Abela is a feisty heroine (I love strong women) who won’t take no for an answer. It’s going to be her way whether he likes it or not. Her trip through the Veil of Ages is enlightening to the chagrin of Liam. Against all odds they embark on a quest that could be deadly for both.
Ms. Morgan weaves a tale that pulls you into her Fae world and tugs at your heart strings all the while making you feel a part of the magical realm she’s created. Could it exist? I leave that for you to decide. This is my favorite book of the three because I loved Abela and Liem’s interactions and the magic woven around them. If you enjoy Scottish historical sprinkled with magic, you’ll love Trial of a Warrior (and the rest of the series)!
As we jump back into the world of the Fenian Warriors, this time out we go with Liam on his tortured journey. And I was captivated. I was yearning for Liam’s story, and this one doesn’t disappoint, it’s already my favorite of the series. Past characters return, we meet and fall in love with Princess Abela and Liam, we learn some secrets that were unknown to this point, and the author weaves enough mystery and suspense that keeps the reader turning the pages. There are some heart wrenching moments – but it was the beautiful moments that had me grabbing my tissue box.
Clear your schedule, and get ready for a late night reading once you pick up this book – you won’t want to put it down. You can read it as a standalone, but to get the full effect of this wonderful world of Fenian Warriors, I recommend you start at the beginning.
