From USA Today Bestselling Author, A.M. Madden, is a sexy, heartwarming, stand-alone spin-off novel from The Back-Up Series.
They say time heals all wounds. And maybe they’re right. But what about wounds no one sees? The kind that open again and again? The kind that have you feeling like you swallowed glass?
Those are the wounds I carry. Years of heartbreak have created layer after layer of … created layer after layer of scar tissue over my whimpering heart.
Everywhere I go, I play the part of rock star, shameless with my cocky attitude and salacious smirks. I deserve an award for how well I can fake being happy.
But then everything changes in my life—again.
Turns out they were right.
After all I’ve been through, I discover my heart can mend itself after all.
Even in the wake of tragedy, the tiny fragments of my heart are fusing back together.
What’s the magic elixir? In my case it turns out to be a stunning beauty with bouncy, caramel waves, a smile that has me forgetting my name, and crystal-blue eyes just like mine.

TREY! Oh how I love thee…let me count the ways…sigh.
Get ready to feel EVERYTHING!!! Grab the tissues. I cried, boy did I cry. Pull out your dance shoes. I danced in happiness and giddiness. Grab the throat lozenges. There will be screaming. I loved every emotion filled page. Leila is the perfect guide to lead Trey out of the darkness.

So many feelings! I’ve loved Trey since the first book. The Lair’s will forever be in my heart. This book made the series come full circle for me and I was sad to see it end. I don’t want to give spoilers just know that this book is going to rock your heart with all Things Trey!!!!!
If Trey didn’t have bad luck he wouldn’t have any luck at all. This is a stand alone novel, but to fully understand and appreciate where Trey is coming from and the supporting characters it’s best if you read the whole series and believe me you won’t be disappointed! To say Trey has had a hard life is putting it mildly. From childhood on life has kicked him in the ass. Now struggling to stay clean and sober he gets the surprise of his life. This is an awesome addition to the Devils Lair series. I couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend it.
5 Cranky Stars
Love came and left twice for Trey Taylor in the most tragic way. After the death of his wife Trey hit rock bottom and finally got help. Now a year sober and continued therapy he’s in a good place.
Camilla has a secret 6 Years in the making. She is ready to confront Trey Taylor yet what happens next turns her word upside down.
I love the push and pull of these characters. The dynamics and chemistry is off the charts. At some points I actually felt like I was in the story. These people became my friends and family. We’ve shed tears and laughter together. AM Madden is by far the best author I’ve read and I can’t wait to see whats next
Another great entry into the Dirty Lair library ties up the story of the most mysterious member of the band. Trey Taylor’s life has been one struggle, heartbreak and bombshell after another. This book is the culmination of his story and like the rest of it, Trey’s conclusion will pull on your heartstrings. With a feisty leading lady, adorable kids, and a famous rock band as secondary characters, Ann Marie has delivered the perfect ending of Trey’s story.
Gahhhh!! What a wonderful story!! Emotional and heartwarming!! It was one of those books that warm your heart from the inside! Passionate and loving! Another fantastic book by A.M. Madden!!
I really enjoyed this book! This book gave me the feels! I was hooked from the very beginning! I love a good rockstar romance and this one didn’t disappoint!I loved also that there was no drawn out unnecessary drama. after everything Trey has been through I was so happy to see him get his happy ending!! I definitely recommend this book!
Received an arc for an honest opinion
Having read Ms.Madden’s work many times before I’ve been looking forward to this book! This story pulled me in from the start and I didn’t turn away from my kindle until I reached the end. I enjoyed this story!
Trey’s journey was far from an easy one. There was such a realness to it that truly got to me. I really enjoyed getting to be in his mind as well as the heroine’s and getting to dig deeper with them.
I really liked how these characters brought out all kinds of my emotions. From the moments that brought a smile to my face to the ones that hit me right in the chest, and everything in between, I felt every bit with them.
With Trey, Ms.Madden has created a read that will keep you glued to your kindle and make you feel it all!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the author*
I devoured this book, I so wanted Trey to get his HEA. This is an exceptionally well written book, you will get caught up in Trey’s struggles. You will see the sexy, arrogant rocker who hides his pain behind a smirk that could melt panties. You will get a front seat to watch as he struggles with his demons, his fears, and his anxieties…how little by little with the help of his Devil’s Lair family, Camilla, and Alivia he slowly evolves, so we get to see the funny and loving side of Trey. For me this was an emotional read that tugged at my heartstrings but I loved every word from start to finish. 5 exceptional s
Sometimes scars and wounds fester so deep inside someone that it’s impossible to be free completely of them. And, even when rock bottom is hit, and the only way to move forward is to let go and become a different person – someone who doesn’t lose himself in liquor, drugs, or women – it’s still a rigorous climb and one that can only be taken if perspectives change and a shining light finds its way into his life.
Trey Taylor is an enigma and so not who he seems to be or who he wants to be. He definitely lives the rock star life and knows how to play that role and play it well, but that’s not who he truly is and it hasn’t been, maybe since the beginning. He cocky smirks, his piercing blue eyes, his consuming bravado are all part of his act, meant to conceal every ounce of struggle, of rage, of devastation that he does not want to show, at all costs.
A lesser man would have succumbed to the pain, to the demons that constantly want to take him under, and to the broken parts of his heart that he felt would never be pieced back together. But he doesn’t. He fights. He battles…with himself, with his past, with his sinful deeds, and what finds in that fight is there is a way out…a way to move forward…a way to grab and hold on to the happiness he found.
As much as Camilla Deron is a catalyst for Trey’s newfound happiness and a tether from his past brought into his present and future, this story is wholly Trey’s, and I love that A.M. Madden recognized that fact and focused on Trey’s healing and transformation.
A whole Trey is something to behold and the fact that he gets to that point, refusing to give up or fail proves exactly the kind of man he is. And what I love about the man he becomes is that readers still get Trey’s swagger…his corny jokes
What I love about the new and whole Trey Taylor is that readers still get his swagger…still get his more than corny jokes, but what we also get are more smiles, true joy and a whole lot of happiness.
4.5 Poison Apples
OMG! 5 + stars!!!!
I can’t say enough good things about this book! I love the Devil’s Lair family! Ann Marie makes you feel like you know them and are part of their life’s in every book. Trey has always been my favorite and this book is my new favorite! The things that have happened in his life will rip your heart out. This story will lift you up though! It’s emotional and beautiful! I cried numerous times but those tears were finally happy tears! Thank you Ann Marie for another amazing story!
This is the first book I’ve read by AM Madden. And at first I wasn’t sure if I should have read the other books in the first series and in the spin off series too. A lot of times these “stand-alone” aren’t great read out of order and you miss a lot. But in this case I really didn’t feel like I was missing much. I understood what Trey has gone through in the past and I was able to connect with his character. The lead female character, Camilla, is a strong woman who has made her own way in life and doesn’t need a man there to help her. I really liked the story and both main characters as well as the supporting characters and all their interactions. I love a rock star romance even though they never actually played a show in the book! Overall I really enjoyed this and I’ve actually bought the entire Back-Up series as well as the 2 previous Lair books before this one now to get lost in the Devil’s Lair world again! Can’t wait to read them and learn more about Jack, Leila, and their entire group…oh and Trey too!

Trey has been through it. But he’s stabilized and back in the mix again with his crew, his band, his family. And then a blast from his past drops a hell of a revelation on him and he’s left reeling. Can he do what Camilla asks, or will he fall headlong into love again, for the first time since he lost his wife?
Tortured rockstars can be a difficult trope to do well, but I’d say A.M. Madden knows what she’s doing because this is a fantastic story. I love how Trey puts in work and heals, and never lets down the woman he’s come to love so much. I’ve only read one of the other stories in the Lair world, and after this one I will definitely be reading more now.
In this one you go deep with the character. It definitely is like that saying do not judge a book by its cover so the same goes for Trey do not believe all that you see and hear. The raw and healing also have to take place. We get to see the real come crawling to the light. Love aids with the light and this author gives us so much that feeds our addiction of why we read the all consuming stories such as this one.
Talk about emotional and beautiful. Trey had so many demons to fight and it was a blessing that he had his band mates especially Leila. She was like the sister he never had. His band mates were with him every step of the way in everything until Camilla came into his life and flipped it upside down. At first I didn’t like how she was acting towards the entire situation but then I got why she was so protective. Trey on the other hand made it his business to protect her at all cost. He still struggled with a lot but Camilla made things better for him. The band welcomed Camila with open arms and it was nice to see. Both her and Trey had in common that they had no family and their friends were the only family that they had. The epilogue was beautiful and funny. It’s great to see how close these guys and their spouses are.
So, here we go, a little friendly PSA: I didn’t realize that I missed a book in the series, but somehow I did and as these books sort of build on each other, I missed a lot about Trey’s past. Now, according to what I’m seeing this is supposed to go with a totally different series and not really the Back-Up series, totally not seeing how that is supposed to help anyone when it comes to the series so IMO: Trey is a part of the band Devil’s Lair, this is the band that the series, Back-Up, is about. IMO to make things flow better, you should read the Back-Up series, and not just jump in if you haven’t as this seems like this may be the last book before a possible second gen book.
Now that my ranting is out of the way, Trey has come a long way in the last two years, not perfect but a long way; I am assuming this is what is covered in book five of the Back-Up series. When a woman shows up outside his apartment and has paperwork for him, at first Trey is shocked by what the lady reveals. But after taking some time and talking with Jack and Leila, Trey is ready to make the best of the situation he has found himself in. He is going to grab the bull by the horns so to speak and rock at this new gig. But will his self-doubt and self-sabotage get in the way of what is going on?
I’m not giving any spoilers about what awesomeness this book contains! I am still a bit in shock about the turn that Trey’s life took from the end of book four to this one. The situation that he found himself in was dealt with amazingly and I loved every inch of this story! I give this 5 stars.
TREY by A.M. Madden is a contemporary, adult LAIR erotic, rock, romance story line –a spin off from the author’s The Back-Up series. This is Devil’s Lair member and musician Trey Taylor, and graphic designer Camilla Deron’s story line. You do not have to have read the previous series to follow but for cohesion and back story, I recommend reading Backstage and Backstage Pass, from the original series where Trey’s heart breaking story begins.
NOTE: If you have not read the original Back Up series, there may be some spoilers in my review.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Trey and Camilla) TREY follows the building romance and relationship between Devil’s Lair member and musician Trey Taylor, and graphic designer Camilla Deron. Approximately seven years earlier Trey had a one night with Camilla Deron, and walked away without looking back. Fast forward to present day, wherein, a different and recovering Trey Taylor comes face to face with a woman he barely remembers, but a woman who reveals a secret she has kept close to her heart. Without missing a beat, Trey pushes his way into Camilla’s life, in a effort to become part of a family for which he had always hoped. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Trey and Camilla, and the potential fall-out as Trey’s lifestyle and fame begin to overwhelm and threaten our story line heroine.
Trey Taylor has suffered more than anyone could have imagined. Believing he is not worthy of love, and everyone he loves, in the end, will run or be destroyed, Trey struggles with his growing affection and attraction to Camilla. Camilla Deron has been on her own for many years, and refuses to trust Trey with her heart or her love. Hoping to take things slow, Camilla is pulled head first into Trey’s life including the acceptance of his Devil’s Lair family.
The relationship between Trey and Camilla is one of second chances, of a sort. Trey is desperate to be part of Camilla’s life but Camilla has issues of trust after witnessing (on-line and in the papers) the breakdown and fall-out of the man with whom she will fall in love. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including the members of the rock group Devil’s Lair: Jack and Leila Lair, and their children: drummer Hunter Amatto, guitarist Scott Malone, Scott, Cannon Davis , Lori Banzini, and Laila’s brother Evan, as well as Camilla’s best friend Debbie and her husband Carson, and little Alivia.
TREY is a story of recovery and second chances; of family, secrets, tragedy revelations and love. The premise is emotional and revealing; the seductive romance is slow to build; the characters are energetic and colorful. TREY is a welcome addition to the Devil’s Lair family.
This was a very emotional story at least for me, I was intrigued by the characters.
One of the perks of being part of a team that runs a bookstagram on Instagram is all the new authors you get to know. AM Madden is one of those authors, and Trey is her latest release, and I AM FLOORED with how darn incredible this story is. If you get nothing else from this review, GO BUY TREY—DO IT NOW!
Trey is standalone, but his character has been threaded all through her Back-Up series, and he is the main character of Backstage, but Trey’s story is so much more. Trey has spent a lot of his life burying his demons under a whole lot of excess. He’s spent a lot of his life searching for light. If you have read Backstage, you know this. Trey is the story of his delivery from the darkened tunnels he traversed for the majority of his life.
Camilla, who crossed over one of Trey’s tunnels in his past, is back with a pass to daylight. But she has to be open to allowing Trey past her memory of the Trey he was. The Trey she is meeting now is not the same person, and that is where the beauty of this story comes about. When Camilla and Trey finally figure out, it’s ok for Trey to have feelings for her, you as the reader cheer because it’s about time for someone to get a break. If anyone deserves it, it’s Trey.
Coming into a series at the end can be problematic for a reviewer. You don’t know the characters, history, or relationship dynamics going on as a subtext. Often it can feel disjointed and complicated. The mark of a good author who is bringing you in late is their ability to “fill you in,” without cramming it down your throat. This story had a lovely feel of a family that you can tell has matured over time. The band’s love for Trey and their desire for his happiness is evident in every scene. This story blew me away, I want to read the series, but it’s not necessary as Trey is not officially part of the Back-Up series, but it is a Lair novel. Read the series or not…but READ TREY!!
