Traveling from Texas is the fifth novel in The Pioneer Brides from Rattlesnake Ridge series. Each book can be read alone for those who have not kept up with the series. I thought Traveling from Texas was a sweet story. I liked the characters from Tess to the precocious Rose. Tess helped turnaround The Cowboy Café with her clever ideas. We are introduced to Chuck who owned the café as well as Amelia Anderson who is a mail order bride. With its small town locale, the story would be complete without rampant gossip, dirty politics, badmouthing, and the mysterious money. I found Traveling from Texas to be well-written and engaging. There is humor sprinkled throughout the story along with just the right amount of romance. The ending was delightful. The characters have strong faith which I appreciate. The phrase I wanted to share is “Maybe God wanted a man to look up and count on the Lord once in a while.” Something to ponder. Traveling from Texas is a charming story with its twists, characters to root for and characters to dislike, the intriguing mystery, humor, and the meddling busybody.
Patricia PacJac Carroll is a great author.
Her books have all the elements of a great read.
Her characters and plots are so appealing.
Jacob Winthrop, the town mayor a widower has been trying to bring in mail order brides for the men in Rattlesnake Ridge. Running away from Texas to Rattlesnake Ridge after the death of their father, Tess and her brother Joe Cooper are looking for their Uncle Bart so they would be safe from the sheriff and people who are looking for them. Uncle Bart the town drunk is given a chance by Jacob to clean up and work for him to impress Tess and Joe. Tess is attracted to Jacob and his adorable daughter but the town gossips feel she is beneath him as Jacob is running for re-election as the mayor. Exciting and suspenseful. The characters are well written and the story is definitely worth reading. I received this book as an arc for an honest review of it.
Can Tess start a new life in Rattlesnake Ridge with their uncle Bartholomew? Tess and Joe are hiding something and when they get to Rattlesnake Ridge, major Jacob take them to live I. His house with their uncle Bart. CAn Jacob finally find a mother to his daughter Rose and a woman’s to love again? Can Tess find love and happiness with Jacob?
What an addition to this series!! Tess and Joe flee their home while their father is dying because he warns them to leave now for their own safety. Well they have no clue what is in store for them. Jacob the Mayor of Rattlesnake Ridge tries to help Tess out and make her feel at home. Will their budding feelings grow? Will the secret money’s origin be discovered and will they remain safe? This story and series is a must read!! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Another great clean read. I instantly fell in love with Tess and her brother Joe. Having them join the Rattlesnake Ridge family is awesome! Yes, they did have their share of issues both good and bad. Helping Chuck @ the Country Café, the election, horse race @ the celebration, even finding family and love mixed in.
I am so happy for Jacob and even liked Olivia for a split second, but I am SO afraid of what Liston and Clara can/will do together as a couple to the town.

I really liked this book. The town council meetings and all the Mayor business, are not something I usually read about and found it very interesting. I loved the preacher and hope he’s in another book or two. Not many books end with several romances getting happy endings!
The beginning really pulled me in! I love a book with a great catch in the beginning!
Tess and her brother have to leave Texas and go stay with their uncle Bart in Rattlesnake Ridge.
Bart is town drunk after receiving a letter from his niece that she and her brother are on the way to visit him, he needs to stay sober, needs job and roof over his head, he gets this all from Jacob, town’s mayor.
What will happen when Tess meet Jacob, do her past comes after her?
Love reading this story.
This story is about a brother and sister starting a new life in Rattlesnake Ridge. Their father sent them there when trouble was brewing in Texas. Tess is an independent woman in a time where most women are not. The story is well written and transports you into the past in a believable way.
A good addition to the series. Probably the most complex in the series as there is the mystery of the money in the box Tess and Joe have. Then they are trying to start a new life so they have to find jobs. Joe becomes interested in one of the mail order brides. Uncle Bart is trying to stay sober – he has a whopper of a surprise for all at the end. Jacob is interested in Tess but is dealing with town busybodies and others running for mayor. Have plenty of time to read as it’s hard to out down
This story of Tess and her brother was full of travel, hardship, finding love and putting their past behind them to make a new start on life. This series has been wonderful tales of what life was like back in the days and helped you to realize just how much material things didnt matter as much as they do today. Life back then was more about survival and families coming together to make their lives rich from love and just being together. Get your copies today and enjoy these books and fill your heart full of warmth and compassion.
An enjoyable read. Tessa and Joe flee Texas after their father dies and tells them trust nobody and find their uncle in Nevada. Once there they get involved with the mayor, become part of the gossip and part of making some good things happen. Though Tess isn’t looking for love, the mayor Jacob and his daughter Rose infiltrate her heart. But as their past barrels in to catch up with them the most unlikely people will help out. Nicely written. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
This book is so full of action, it keeps you reading so you can make sure Tess and Joe make it in rattlesnake ridge. Jacob is such an easy going guy, he has a large heart. Rose is a lovely child who keeps Jacob on his toes. I totally enjoyed this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
A brother and sister move to Rattlesnake Ridge after their father died to live with their uncle. They meet the mayor and his 8 year old daughter, plus 2 Mail Order Brides along with the town members make for an interesting read.
This book has the right amount of romance, conflict and mystery with interesting characters and a story line that keeps you turning the page. It is good to visit with old friends in Rattlesnake Ridge and to meet new ones. I’m already wanting the next story.
I received an advanced copy of the book. All opinions given are my own.
This is the 5th book in the Pioneer Brides of Rattlesnake Ridge. I found this to be a awesome read, very well written and wonderful characters, I have enjoyed all the people so far in Rattlesnake Ridge except a few. The Banker and Olivia which is the towns gossip, I dont like gossips but she did help redeem herself later in the storyline. If you enjoy Western Romances and a good HEA you will enjoy this book.
This is an interesting historical romance involving Tess Cooper and her brother Joe and Mayor Winthrop and his daughter Rose. I liked that the author pulls you right into the story within the first few pages and keeps you wondering what happened and what is going to happen. I could not put the book down. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Incredible and amazing book!!! Heartfelt and full of love. Wonderful characters and well written. Hits you in the heart. Best book so far.
I found this to be a very entertaining read. This book was sweet and emotional. Tess and Jacobs story held my interest as romance, action, suspense and drama. I really liked them and was happy they got a shot at a HEA.
Traveling from Texas
Jacob is the mayor of Rattle Snake Ridge. He has worked very hard to help the population and growth of the community. He is a widow with a beautiful little daughter named Rose. She talks a mile a minute. She is wanting a grown up horse.
Bart is the town drunk. People don’t care about his past, how he blames his self for living when he should have died in the mining accident that trapped and killed all the men. He feels guilty for being sick that day.
Joe and Tess’s father dies while working in the bank. He tells his children to take the box his wife left for him. He tells his children to go to Rattle Snake Ridge to be with their Uncle Bart.
Fabulous story. I think we could all learn a lesson in this book, not to judge others.
