The Pioneer Brides of RattleSnake Ridge continues to deliver compelling tales of courageous women. Full of insight into a past we modern women tend to forget, each author reminds us of how far we’ve come and just how much farther we have to go. Traveling from Texas brings suspense to Rattlesnake Ridge. Tess is running toward a better life, but tragedy and secrets are never far behind. Can she trust her instincts by putting her safety in the hands of a man she just met? Carroll shakes up the series with her unpredictable, firecracker of a character.
We already knew Mayor Winthrop was an honorable man. In this tale he teams up with… Well, you’ve got to trist him.
This story demonstrates Romans 8:28 well.
The single men of Rattlesnake Ridge are falling like skittles! Latest to fall is the mayor, widower Jacob Winthrop. New to town are a slew (well a couple at least) of mail-order brides and siblings Tess and Joe Cooper, there to visit Bart, the town’s former drunk who has pulled himself together because of their visit. No story of Rattlesnake Ridge would be complete without the town politics, gossip, and some backbiting, and the sheriff and storekeeper’s wife stir up enough discontent for a mayoral election, serious aspersions on the Coopers’ character and background (of which they’re not certain either) – but you don’t see this ending coming, and that earned it the four stars.
