On the day she and her mother escaped her cruel father, Emma Washington vowed to never fall in love.
Now, Emma is a back-to-school PhD student with bigger and better things to worry about. That is, until one night–exhausted, slightly tipsy, and on her way home from a party–the glaring white light of a car comes crashing toward her, changing her life forever. Instead of waking up in a … up in a 21st-century hospital, she finds herself waking up in the backwaters of London, Victorian England, 1881…
Trapped in a time where everything she once knew is considered witchcraft, Emma discovers that Victorian London is a harsh world for a woman without wealth or status. She faces yet another life-changing twist when she learns that her only chance of survival depends on the very thing she has tried to avoid her whole life—marriage. As if that isn’t bad enough, she must betroth herself to none other than the most powerful duke in all of England, the notorious and feared Lord William Blackwell.
But…what begins as a fight for her life might just become a chance to find true love.

I love time travel books and this one was a winner. When Emma gets hit by a car late at night walking home from a party she wakes up in 1881 England, penniless and with no skills to survive in this period. A woman named Lily finds her, takes her home, and they devise a plan to pretend Emma is a wealthy American and has been robbed, so they can trick Lord Blackwell into marrying her and then she will have money to find a way back to the twenty first century. The day they stage their act, instead of Lord Blackwell finding them after the “robbery”, it is John, Lord Evergreen, Lord Blackwell’s neighbor. Emma stays at Lord Evergreen’s home but Lord Blackwell is intrigued with her. When he finds out about the scam he blackmails her into being his betrothed. Now she as to agree even though she is in love with John. Can she find a way home before she has to marry Lord Blackwell? But what about her love for John Evergreen? I received a free copy of this book an am voluntarily leaving a review.
Denise has a way of capturing your interest in her writing. I started reading and couldn’t put it down. It was if I was every part of Emma. I couldn’t put it down I wanted to know what happened. A happy ending.
Great Entertainment!
You know that creepy feeling you get when something really strange and out of the ordinary happens, well, this is what I felt at the end of this story.
This is an amazing love story between Emma and John.
The bad guy is aptly named William Blackwell (smile) and his hands aren’t too clean.
I loved the way Lily takes care of Emma and makes sure she learns how to safely survive in 1881, Victorian England.
This story was really well written. It kept me going, eager to find out what was going to happen next and I loved the interplay between the characters, loving some of them more than others.
The narration was nicely done with interesting and well matched voices helping to make this an enjoyable audio experience.
I am happy to recommend this story and the audiobook.
My voluntary and unbiased review is recorded above.
When their eyes met, time stood still.
Can anyone ever be adequately prepared to be swept from 21st century Philadelphia to London during the reign of Queen Victoria? Probably not, but Emma did have a bit of an edge, with a little help from her friends.
Trapped in Time is one of those books that I liked, but could also see ways it could have been so much better.
Likes:
I liked Denise Daye’s writing style, which was definitely show rather than tell. She was also very descriptive in building a fictitious world.
I liked the overall story with its surprise twists.
I liked both the hero and heroine as well as the supporting characters.
I liked the ending, which was satisfying.
Disappointments;
The plot was a bit loose with a few holes that need to be tightened with the help of a good editor.
There were a few errors in how a peer was addressed and in the proper surname of the daughter of a peer.
The secular and religious swearing were unnecessary and did nothing for the story.
The descriptive sexual intimacy needed to be left behind closed doors.
Disclosure: I received this book for free from BookSirens. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
Loved it. It is exciting, surprising, emotional, romantic and much more. Imagine getting into an accident and waking up many centuries in the past. And the only way to avoid all the drama and no money and so on you have to do something you have always said you won’t. Marry a very well to do influential earl. Now that would be a shock in more ways than one. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
ONE IMPRESSIVE ADVENTURE!!!
Roll with it! Denise lines it up, loosens the tension and nails the target, running the show and calling the shots, booting this little fella to life brilliantly. A swirling throng of unexpected events, throws this baby into the eye of the storm, blasting it into a tailspin with an astonishing culmination. Bumbling through the trials and tribulations, along with shocking twists, sharp turns and crisp lines, testing our characters in ways they could have never anticipated. Combating the drama, intrigue, turmoil, uncertainty and soaring suspense, makes for one thrilling adventure. Add a little magic, undercurrents, perplexing situations and a boatload of mishaps, propels this baby to a whole new level. The attraction and chemistry sizzles from the pages, alluring and mesmerizing, binding them together perfectly. The characters are authentic and realistic with qualities and traits that transform into outstanding personalities. The scenes are abundantly detailed and descriptive as to give you a full understanding and realism that flows through smoothly. Remarkable job Denise, thanks for sharing this little fella with us.
Very good.
There were many things that I questioned about this book, besides time travel. While I love other time travel books, this wasn’t one of them. To me, it seemed like the author just decided to write a book and didn’t really do much research. My first thought was did no one question her clothing. She was coming back from a party and I doubt her style of clothing would come close to Victorian dress. Secondly, how is it her cell phone stayed charged for so long. You would think that by using her cell phone to show pictures and turning it off and on so much that it would have died very quickly. Didn’t the people in London freak out when seeing her cell phone, especially those that were living in poverty. How is it that she was able to make penicillin so easily? Yes, I know she was a pharmacy major, but they don’t teach you how to make penicillin in class. The entire book seemed very rushed and slapped together. Not a fan.
The writing and characters are not conducive to a good romance novel.
Very light, easy read!
A highly enjoyable time travel romance. Emma was sucked out of preseent day Philadelphia to 1800’s England where she befriends two unlikely people who help her devise a plan to marry a rich gentlemen. Things do not go as planned, falling in love with one and being coerced to marry another. Great romance and some intrigue. Watching Emma, a modern woman getting used to life in the 1800’s was well done.
Couldn’t get into this
Wonderful
I received a copy of this book from the author, I was not required to give a favorable review. I had never read anything from Denise before this, but it was a great time travel love story. Emma never wanted to marry because of the abuse and poverty her mom had to put up from her dad until she got them out. She got the opportunity to go back to school. But one night coming home from a party she was hit by a car and landed in London 1881, and her life changed.
I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the next one.
Didn’t hold my interest
Great and easy reading. Is a perfect read for when you something interesting and smooth reading. A bonus is time traveling
It was a pretty good book. The story was believable and heart warming. It moved pretty well and was romantic.
I actually enjoyed how this story played out. It took me a bit to understand the author’s voice. Emma ended up in the past and wanted to do whatever it took to make it home. She was very conscious of the butterfly effect so she used her modern knowledge sparingly. John was such a sweet man but knew his heart quickly. The ending was interesting. This was an audiobook, and Virginia Ferguson did a wonderful job keeping my attention and giving life to Emma, John, and those around them.
I received a copy of the audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
