A Key West fishing captain takes on Florida’s drug lords in this “splendidly written” crime story coauthored by the #1 New York Times–bestselling novelist (The New York Times Book Review). Though he is one of Key West’s most skilled fishing captains, Breeze Albury barely ekes out a living on the meager earnings of his trade. Meanwhile, Cuban and Colombian drug smugglers thrive all around—and they … smugglers thrive all around—and they have their sights set on Albury and his fishing boat.
After the smugglers cut his three hundred trap lines and crush his livelihood, Albury is forced to run drugs to survive. But when he gets busted by the crooked chief of police and becomes a target of the drug machine’s brutal hit men, Albury becomes a vigilante on the seas of Florida, unleashing a fiery and relentless vengeance on the most dangerous criminals south of Miami.
Along with Powder Burn and A Death in China, this is one of the early suspense thrillers written by Carl Hiaasen and Bill Montalbano, a writing team praised for their “fine flair for characters and settings” (Library Journal). Perfect for fans of the Doc Ford novels by Randy Wayne White, Trap Line is an action-packed preview of Hiaasen’s stellar Florida-set crime novels including Sick Puppy, Tourist Season, and Razor Girl.

Loved it
Great plot, interesting characters and some very funny scenes!!
Really enjoy this Author.
Hiaason has a great style and theme thru our his books. Wild and crazy characters in the Florida tropics.
We were very disappointed in the book. It didn’t seem much like a Hiassen book. We are fans of his later books. We cannot recommend it.
Any one of his books is funny – great descriptions of Florida!!!
Not his best, but worth reading…
A surprisingly good vintage/early Carl Hiaasen novel, that somehow had escaped my ‘radar’, while I’ve enjoyed what I thought were all his novels, until now.Trap Line is set in the 1980s Florida, which Hiaasen was clearly well-acquainted with, even then, setting out a fascinating world of corruption, lies, deceit, treachery and general skulduggery, …
There are glimpses of what Carl Hiaasen will become in this book but not enough to make it worthwhile.
Super easy read, with a whole lot of suspense.
Huge fan of Carl Hiaasen
Love all his books even the kids books
Good old Florida. Keys were different then. Paradise is not always there.
Early Carl Hiaasen, before he had fully refined his incredible talent, but well worth reading. Great plot with lots of action and twists. This book doesn’t have Hiaasen’s magical humor but it is a great, VERY ORIGINAL story.
Amusing diversion. Fun read.
I am a fan of Hiaasen. This book isn’t my favorite, but I did enjoy the story. Interesting characters. Some of the humor only a Floridian can understand.
Good stuff. Carl dipoles it again.
I was expecting a wacky book with crazy characters, given that Carl Hiaasen was listed as the primary author. Nope — it was a straightforward action story. I didn’t particularly like the characters or the setting.
Liked the main character. The story lags in some spots but overall a good read.
It is hilarious and action packed. I highly recommend this book and the author.
Carl Hiassen is one of my favorite kooky laugh outloud authors. Would reccomend any of his books to all!
