A Key West fishing captain takes on Florida’s drug lords in this “splendidly written” crime story coauthored by the #1 New York Times–bestselling novelist (The New York Times Book Review). Though he is one of Key West’s most skilled fishing captains, Breeze Albury barely ekes out a living on the meager earnings of his trade. Meanwhile, Cuban and Colombian drug smugglers thrive all around—and they … smugglers thrive all around—and they have their sights set on Albury and his fishing boat.
After the smugglers cut his three hundred trap lines and crush his livelihood, Albury is forced to run drugs to survive. But when he gets busted by the crooked chief of police and becomes a target of the drug machine’s brutal hit men, Albury becomes a vigilante on the seas of Florida, unleashing a fiery and relentless vengeance on the most dangerous criminals south of Miami.
Along with Powder Burn and A Death in China, this is one of the early suspense thrillers written by Carl Hiaasen and Bill Montalbano, a writing team praised for their “fine flair for characters and settings” (Library Journal). Perfect for fans of the Doc Ford novels by Randy Wayne White, Trap Line is an action-packed preview of Hiaasen’s stellar Florida-set crime novels including Sick Puppy, Tourist Season, and Razor Girl.

Most people think of zany, wacky and entertaining characters and situations in Florida when Carl Hiassen’s name comes up. This book was written with a co-author before Mr Hiassen started writing by himself and branched into his signature nitch.
It tells the story of Captain Breeze Albury, a lobster fisherman based in Key West and his story …
Carl Hiassen writes stories taking place in Florida and anyone and everyone will enjoy the phrasing and wording that brings characters alive.
Just love Hiaasen.
A good book to pick up and read for fun. It was a bit predictable, but still a good light read.
You have to love his work. It is always a joy ride. The characters are always fun and off beat,
Every book of his is great, having lived in Florida for 20 years al too much of what he relates is actually based in truth!
I’ve read almost all of his books. They a recall great books, never know what is going to happen next!!!
Love all of Carl Hiaasen’s books. Great characters.
Carl Haissen does not write bad books. Simple as that. Some of his books are movies, but all that I have read are Fascinating. This one was a reread.
Every Carl Haiisen book that I have read to date, has been a true treat. Storylines are inventive, fun stories to escape in. Great way to escape one’s own challenges/frustrations, stories entertained and distract the reader.
Exactly what you hope to get
Not one of Hiaasen’s best.
Excellent convincing story telling
Everything Carl Hiaasen writes is amazing. Trap Line is no exception. I highly recommend this book.
This was an OK read but what has happened to the irreverantl, zanny Carl Hiaasen? I miss him.
Though I think of Carl Hiassen as a writer of books that (however involved with crime) are usually also very funny. Trapline was well-plotted, with many characters interacting, and the ending was thoroughly satisfying , but it wasn’t one of the funny ones.
