Seventeen-year-old high schooler Katherine Wolff wants nothing to do with her powerful shifter family’s heritage. Every Wolff shifts – into other people, mammals, or natural objects. It’s tough enough to fit in when you’re normal, but when you’ve begun your transformation as a shifter, then it’s just weird. Her family’s ancient enemies, the equally powerful and brutal Barotkoffs, haven’t been … haven’t been heard from since their last encounter and her parents were killed when she was five. Surrounded by a loving family and a peaceful childhood, Kat has had it easy.
That’s about to change.
The Barotkoffs have reappeared and are ready to re-engage. When Kat meets Christopher Barotkoff, she’s stunned. He’s the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome. He warns her family of looming danger. The Barotkoffs are monsters. Why would Christopher be any different? Their forbidden attraction is nothing short of dangerous.
Will Kat’s abilities be the key to her family’s salvation, or the path to its ultimate destruction?

I loved this story – it was action packed but let me breathe, too. The characters are 3 dimensional with real and distinct personalities and I found myself getting attached to them and really caring what happened to them! It made me gasp, hold my breath, and laugh, frequently.
Although this is a shifter book (a genre which, for me, has outstayed it’s welcome), it’s in no way derivative. A friend recommended it, and I’m thrilled she did – it has a twist on the genre that anyone will appreciate. It’s a great read for teens as well as adults and the characters draw you in from the first page. I particularly loved the scene-setting in the prologue – I’ve been known to skip the necessary world-building this genre demands, but this was handled intelligently, and I invested so much in the characters, I’d really love to follow the adventures of these lads. Ms Shaeffer has a real skill in reproducing a credible medieval world.
Enjoy!

Transformations: The Shifter Series: Volume One ( The Shifters Book 1) By Cari Schaeffer is the first book in her The Shifters Series. I was sucked in from the beginning and I didn’t want to put it down once I started reading. This is story of Katherine and her family. She is part of a family where the members shift and also go through transformation. Katherine doesn’t want to feel different than anybody else even though she is a teenager. She knows her transformation is coming and she’s upset about it, she just wants to be like other teenagers. Can Katherine’s family trust Christopher? Or is he like his family ?To answer these questions and more I highly recommend reading this book. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

A new twist on shifters. This is the first book I have read by this author. Transformations was a interesting read because it took shifting a different route. Like your shifting multiple things not just one animal. At the age of 17 your emotions are already crazy but then you add in Kate’s transition and it’s even worse. Kate is like any 17 year old. She wants to have fun and be normal. But one fateful night many years ago chose something different for her and her family. The many gifts the families hold are so unique. Though Anastasia’s gift is the best. The story is very well written. The moments of heighten emotions are some what tangible. The family bond is felt through every member. The mystery of the spy is shocking. Overall I truly enjoyed this short read. It had a touch of humor and a whole lot of romance.

Transformations is the first book in the Shifter Series by Cari Schaeffer. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Schaeffer, but definitely won’t be the last. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us in the next book in this series. I love the different take this author has on shifter’s, it makes this story unique. The book is slow in parts but nothing that would turn me off from reading the rest of the series. It is interesting to see, how the different family members change and the effects of the feud that started generations before. Katherine (Kat) is a really interesting character, and her family is quirky to say the least. This book is full of witty banter and had me laughing out loud, but it also had some serious parts also. Overall it was a very good read and I can’t wait to read what happens in Transgressions.
I’m going to start by saying I HATE cliffhangers when it comes to books, like with a fiery passion. That being said, I really enjoyed this book. I like the characters and the plot. I was kind of confused because it took most of the book before one of the characters in the synopsis was introduced, which is very odd, however, I sort of understand why they did that. Now I want to read the second book very bad, however, I will have to check to see if it is a cliffhanger also, because if so then I have to wait till the whole series is out before continuing on because I can’t just stop and not know what happens!!
I really loved Kat, I thought she was a cool teenager that just wanted to be normal but once she changed and realized that this is her life now, she accepted it and did what she needed to do for the family. I loved her growth in the story. Can’t wait to see how else she grows.
Transformations The Shifters Series Volume One by Cari Schaeffer
This novel has amazing characters and really focused on character development. A disagreement leads to a family feud that last for centuries. The two warring families have unique abilities. This novel follows the family with the ability to shift. They can shift I to various things but Kat has the ability to shift in to more than anyone. I loved Kats character. She just wants to live a normal life but has to leave school when she finally shifts. It’s hard on her at first but once she accepts her ability things tend to get easier for both her and her family. This novel was definitely not what I expected but I really enjoyed reading it.
Transformations: The Shifter Series by Cari Schaeffer is the first book in the series and is not your normal shifter novel.
Katherine Wolff is part of a shifter family which has a dark past and feud which was set generations ago, until a stranger appears on the door step providing answers and help to her but this stranger has his secrets. Christopher has arrived to help Kat by passing on a message that her family is in danger, will she believe him when she finds out he is from the rival family.
The story is dark, mysterious and has a great twist with cliffhanger, the book follows different peoples point of view and offers a great insight into the world of shifters. It did take a while to get into the story but once it got going I enjoyed the fast pace from there in, the characters where believable and the banter between the two main characters was great.
I would recommend this story and can’t wait to read the next instalment in this series.
Transformations Book 1 in The Shifter Series by author Cari Schaeffer is my first read from this author. She has a brilliant writing style that connects you the reader to the plot and the characters. The synopsis of this book really intrigued me and I couldn’t wait to get started. This was a brilliant fantasy paranormal read, that I could mentally visualise every detail while reading. This read isn’t like your normal Shifter reads it has twists and turns and is kind of like a spin on a Romeo & Juliet story with family’s that are enemy’s that has been building for centuries. This book is filled with lots of emotions that each character feels. This book is captivating, entrancing and I can’t wait to see what else this author brings to this series!
With this book being written in various POV’s it helps you understand the characters actions, and understand the character as a whole, it also brings this story an added depth. With each character that is involved in this story, you follow their journey and watch them grow throughout. But the one whose journey we follow the most is Katherine Wolff. This story flows from chapter to chapter and makes everything even more compelling to read.
This is a read not to be missed – I can’t wait to see what else this author brings to the series. I highly recommend this read.
Transformation: The Shifter Series by Cari Schaeffer
5 Stars!!!!!
What more could one ask for in a new series and new author than plenty of drama and intrigue and
an age long feud that no one remembers how it started. I was so enthralled with this book that I couldn’t
put it down. The author has a very refreshing style and take on the shifter.
I was very much drawn to Kat not only cause she is the partial focus of the book but because her
character is original. I like how the author brings in many different aspects to this book. There is
the Hatfield and Macoy theme as well as a Romeo and Juliet undertone. I like how the author brings
in the twist of not knowing who the leak is and I like how the drama is drawn out and it isn’t
predictable. I am very eager to read more from not only this author but this series.
Transformations by Cari Schaeffer is the first book in The Shifter series. An intriguing book that is sure to keep you reading.
Kat wishes she could get away from her family and their legacy. She doesn’t want anything to do with shifting. All she wants is to fit in, something that is hard enough to do at the best of times.
And when Christopher, her supposed sworn enemy, turns up being normal get even harder. He says he is there to warn Kat and her family of danger. He says he is there to help. But can Kat really Trish what he is saying? Or is it safer to assume he is just like the rest of his family? Kat has to make a decision, and quick. Her family’s safety could depend on it.
Overall I thought this was a good story. It was interesting and had enough to it to keep me reading. I felt myself wanting to keep reading to find out what would happen – whether Christopher was sincere, whether there really was any danger, whether or not Kat would believe him. I wasn’t really keen on the fact that it reminded me a bit if a Romeo and Juliet style story – 2 families at war with each other, neither trusting the other. For me that is a story that is a little overdone. However that being said the author still made the story interesting and definitely kept my attention. This is the first book I have read by Cari and I can certainly say it won’t be last. I am looking forward to more in this series.
This was my first time reading anything by Cari Schaeffer and I must say, I am not a huge fan of shifter books, or many sci-fi, but I thought, that this one seemed to break the mold a bit just with the synopsis and that I would give it a go. I am honestly glad that I did. It did have a few thing that threw me off a bit. Nothing that would make be throw it out completely or not finish it though, and I was overall impressed.
This did in fact break the mold from the typical shifter books that I have read in the past. Most have been the animal type shifter books, as well as adult type love stories that tend to be the erotic romances that I read. This was along the lines of a coming of age book. Katherine Wolff, our MC, was relatable, and really coming into her own age and womanhood. She is dealing with her body changing and growing up as well as getting ready for her first transformation. I really liked how that opened doors for different emotions to be explored, including humor. This made Katherine and her family and friends relatable and fun to read. Especially, her granny. Oh, and watch out for that cliffhanger. I must confess, I will be back for more in book two, because I have so many questions, and I need answers!
Transformations by Cari Schaeffer is book one in The Shifter Series. This was actually a book I really enjoyed. It was unlike other shifter books. The premise is actually pretty original. I really enjoyed the writing and characters. This one ended in a cliffhanger and I really want to find out what happens next! I just love that each character has such a unique personality that just adds to the story. 4 star rating.

I definitely loved learning about the Wolff family. They are a loving, caring, and funny family. I did find that the beginning of the story a little slow, but that is due to getting a lot of background information on the various characters. I did feel that the story picked up. Kat’s and Christopher’s story is really just beginning. I feel that story did a great job at getting the reader invested into their story. Their story continues in book 2 (Transgressions). Overall, I definitely enjoyed this story, and I’m excited to read what happens next!
Transformations by Cari Schaeffer is book one in the shifter series. This is the first book I have read by this author and I enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the characters and the story line. I feel like there were some pieces of the book that weren’t necessary to the story line, and could have been used to add to the story. Overall, a good story line and I will continue to read books in this series and by this author. I give this book an overall 4 stars.
Transformations (The Shifter Series) by Cari Schaeffer

This is the first book that I have read from this author and wow, it was good. There are two families that have been at war for centuries; the Barotkoffs who are magical and the Wolffs who are shifters. Katherine is seventeen and her transformation has started. Coming into her powers has not been easy and she is scared to shift. She just wants to be normal. She finally meets a guy who is everything she could ask for and he turns out to be a Barotkoff! Her family will never accept her attraction to one of their mortal enemies. Will their forbidden love be allowed to blossom?
The thing I found really interesting is the explanation the author gave for how they came into their powers. It was different and original. I found that the story was a little slow to start but once it did, it took off. It is a shifter story with a cool twist. Each character had a distinct personality that brought something to the story. It ends in a shocking cliffhanger that has me itching to read the next part in the series.
Transformations (The Shifter Series, #1) by Cari Schaeffer was a uniquely original read that was pretty okay, and took a different take on the shifter world.
My first read by this author I went in with a open mind as the synopsis was intriguing and the reviews raving. The opening was hooking and a little darker than I thought this would be. It set the stage for what was to come, and it really drove home how the a family feud, that started generations ago, can affect family(s) that had nothing to do with the original fight. I like it, cause there are feuds like this today, hate for no reason other then, it’s part of the family history, is to me, silly, and closed minded.
Now to start, I did have some issues with this book. Told in multi POV we do gets different sides to stories, and we get some scenes that don’t add anything to the plot and felt like filler. There were also some long winded scenes, and some that seemed to short. So that lead to pacing issues and, it created a choppiness feeling between transitions. It took me a bit to like out MC, she was something at the start, and I don’t want to say bratty, but that’s how she came across. I get it, she’s going through her transformation to shifter, but some of the stuff she was spuing was just disrespectful nonsense. (BTW being normal is overrated.. just saying) I have this things agents closed minded characters that are very me, me, me. I saw that right away, and it made me dislike her, now as the story goes on, she does get better and towards the end I did kind of like her, okay I like her a lot. But, she’s something, I just got to warn you on that.
This is also a bit of a star crossed lover type deal, it wasn’t bad, but again, it is a overuse trope, but I feel, for me, it was handled pretty good in this book.
Other than those small things, the actual plot, and over all story telling was great. It was unique, original and like I said, darker then I thought it would be. There’s a bit of a mystery, and of course there is the whole, is Christopher really not like the rest of his family? Or is he leading the Wolff’s into a false sense of security, to strike.? It was a nice added touch, making the plot a little suspenseful and thrilling. Not going to tell you Christopher’s deal, you’re just going to have to find out on your own if he’s the linchpin, or the demon.
With the being said, this book did hook me enough to continue on with the series. I need to know what happens next! So please take my recommendation, and my stamp of approval that you will get capture by this rare take on shifters and, how they came to be.
Happy Reading
-E.A. Walsh
Transformations by Cari Schaeffer is book one in the Shifter Series. I am not huge on paranormal books but this one did not really have that “fake” vibe that some have. I actually really liked this book and will definitely be reading the rest of the series. I enjoyed the plot and the characters. I liked that Kat really just wanted a sense of normality. She did not want to be like the rest of her family. But once she found out she was super special and got a hold of her abilities she had a slight change of heart. It was great to see the type of family that the Wolff’s were. Even though it was out of necessity. There were a lot of characters, a lot of family members and just random people who I cannot say that I remember. Some did not seem important but some helped the story. The story was a fast read and kept my attention the whole time. It was never boring. I just can’t wait to see what happens next!!!
Transformations: The Shifter Series: Volume One (The Shifters Book 1) By Cari Schaeffer. This is my first book by this author and I’m definitely not disappointed. The author does a wonderful job of of writing a story that is so vividly seen in your mind. It’s got everything I look for in a paranormal/fantasy story but it’s also wonderfully different from other types of shifter stories. Each character brings something unique and different to the story. Kat is just wanting to be like any other teenager but that’s just not the world she lives in. You watch each character grow through out the story. It’s told in different points of view so that makes for a more rounded story. First books can sometimes feel drawn out and slow with world building but this author has done a wonderful job of not giving me any of those feelings, it’s well written and paced nicely never once feeling like it was going slow. I’m giving this book a five star review and highly recommend it to anyone. I’m excited to read more!

This was my first book by this author and what a story! I was skeptical at first but once the first chapter gets going it was tough to put down.
Kat is seventeen and on the cusp of having her first Transformation. Her family is different and in a feud with another for as long as they can remember. We see Kat and her amazing abilities, which were downright awesome!
I’ve never read a shifter book that had other things than animals so this was a surprise! I loved the family, but was left with questions. Like what’s Granny doing in her sewing room? And that cliffhanger ugh I need more!
a great read about tension. Many years ago, a star fell and caused mysterious effects to the local people and these gifts werw passed onto their children. But it caused strife between two families that blossomed into war. Kat is one of their descendants, struggling to deal with the transformation changes and trying fit into school at the same time. Her powers suddenly emerge one day but they reveal there is more to the story. Can she and her powers mend the rift or cause more strife?
a great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Kat trying to be herself or Christophers harsh personality but kind side underneath.vi loved the use of lots of supporting characters for a big family that sticks together.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like in the nature of the woods as a safe place or the beauty of the animals they shift into
a brilliant example of fantasy with magic and different abilities mixed into the real world of high school to make for a captivating read. Also with the sense of a Shakespeare play with the feud between the two families with its war and bloodshed which was a great addition to the mix.
Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.
