It’s not pretend when feelings get involved…As a veteran defenseman for the Newport Beach Seagulls, I know what it’s like to protect. Protect my net. Protect the puck. Protect my team.I’m not even above throwing my gloves off if I need to in order to send a message to the other team.My neighbor is a completely different story.Chloe Summers keeps to herself and minds her own business. She’s cute … Summers keeps to herself and minds her own business. She’s cute in that sexy librarian sort of way but I’ve never made a move. See, I like to keep to myself too. And relationship is not a word in my vocabulary.
But then I find out that she’s in trouble.
My protective instinct kicks in.
I tell her I’ll pretend to be her boyfriend in order to keep her from harm.
And then I realize she’s so much more than a sexy librarian. I want her, nearly as much as I want the Stanley Cup.
And I’m so close to both, I can’t f*cking take it.
–
The flowers all over my porch.
That was the first sign that he found me. After years of hiding, he found me.
I shouldn’t be surprised. He has money, he has charm, he’s even attractive.
But he’s been my nightmare for five years.
It’s why I don’t date. I don’t have many friends. I don’t even say hi to my gorgeous if stoic neighbor. I know he plays for the NHL. He’s probably just looking for some privacy.
But then, Art Jackman gets involved. It’s not his choice. And I sure don’t want him to know these things. Now, he does and I can’t hide who I am anymore.
When he gives me an offer I can’t refuse, I get to know Art more and I realize he’s not just gorgeous, he’s everything I want.
But will he even want me with my past finally catching up to me?

Chloe lives next door to a sexy hot man and she only knows in passing somewhat. However when her ex shows up and causes trouble her neighbor steps in to help and claims to be her boyfriend. Art wants to focus on his career especially since his team is up for The Stanley Cup but his cute neighbor is a bit distracting. Yet he couldn’t stop himself from going to her when he saw the guy harassing her. Sparks fly between them the moment they meet and Art is about to toss his no relationships rule and claim Chloe for his own. Will Chloe break free of her abusive ex? Will Art stake his claim on Chloe?
This is a great story and once I started it I couldn’t put it down. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

This is book 6 in the series Slapshot Series by Heather C. Myers. In this book we are introduced to Art who is in the NFL and a very successful player who is happy in his life, has enough money and friends and female company when he wants but he avoids relationships. His sexy next door neighbour, Chloe is real eye candy for him. He thinks she is one sexy librarian and gorgeous to boot but she is obvious relationship material so he avoids her. Chloe has notice Art but she avoids people and has few friends because she’s in hiding from her abusive ex boyfriend. But he’s wealthy and has obviously found her because it all started with her porch being covered in flowers. Poor Chloe is terrified and doesn’t know what to do. But Art, whilst trying to avoid her, can’t help but notice that there is something wrong and he goes to find out. When he finds out out about her ex he feels very protective of her and offers to pretend to be her boyfriend! Heather C. Myers has created such a great storyline here and her two main characters are so fitting for each other. Art is so amiable and charming as well as very handsome and gorgeous and Chloe is such a strong young woman who has had to be so strong for such a long time and has had no one to share the burden with her. once she shares with him about her stalker they grow closer until what started out as a fake relationship becomes so real. This issue of stalking and abuse within a relationship are such sensitive issues but I think that Heather did a really good job of addressing the issue although I wasn’t sure whether Tim, the ex, did get sufficient ‘punishment’ for his abuse.
DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED
I really loved that even though Chloe had been through so much she didn’t want to completely hide. I also loved how Art noticed all the things that changed with Chloe when Tim found her. The development of their relationship from pretend to real was so sweet and great. Tim finally got what he deserved and I am glad that Art was able to be there for it.

Chloe and Art are neighbors who each pretty much kept to themselves until he became her protector. I loved how great Art was with Chloe and how their relationship developed over time. Together they overcame her abusive ex and it only made them stronger. Good writing, believable characters, and a heartbreakingly beautiful story make this a good read. Trainwrecks and Back Checks is book number six and a great addition to the Slapshot series.
I enjoyed this story about Chloe and Art. Loved grumpy ass Art! Poor Chloe is escaping an abusive ex so there are some heavy scenes dealing with this. I did question the methods Chloe took to go into ‘hiding’. There were also many editing issues. Nothing major to affect the story line, but enough for me to pause and say what? Fairly clean romance as there was only some mild kissing scenes.

Another Must Read In This Fantastic Series
Trainwrecks & Back Checks – Book 6 in The Slapshot Series, by author, Heather C. Myers is such a fantastic sports/romance story. Art, an Enforcer morning for the Gulls and Chloe, his neighbor who relocated because of an abusive ex-boyfriend, Tim.
The author did a great job using roses to bring Art, Chloe, and Tim together. They brought Art and Chloe living together and Tim to escalate his sociopathic behavior.
By living together and being around a different type of women, it gave Art a different perspective and feelings.
Cheers to the author for keeping her love of hockey having such a positive influence in this series. Even though I grew up loving hockey (yes I met Gordy Howe), this series should be enjoyable for everyone.
Definitely recommending this book for your reading enjoyment and pleasure.
I am leaving this review for your consideration. Peace.
This is a short story that included depth of feeling between the characters and just enough conflict to keep it interesting and believable.
Everything in this story is understated. When the relationship between the two main characters moves from friends to lovers, it’s done in retrospect. There are no sex scenes, but you know the extent of each characters’ love for the other.
There are a few typos and a bit of grammar that could be better, however, it does not detract from the story.

Heather C. Myers hits it into the net with TRAINWRECKS & BACK CHECKS, the sixth book in the Slapshot series. Defenseman Art Jackman helps his neighbor, Chloe Summers, with her stalker ex-boyfriend. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult audiences. It takes place in Newport Beach, California.
I like Art and Chloe. They are an unlikely couple that would have probably never had met if they didn’t live next door to each other. They don’t really know each other but are observant of each other being neighbors. Because of being watchful, Jackman notices some behaviors that cause him to be protective of Chloe. I appreciated that he acted instead of just ignoring the signs in front of him.
I love that Art comes into Chloe’s life. She really didn’t have anyone. Her situation could have been catastrophic without Art getting involved. Chloe’s ex broke her confidence and was the textbook example of an abuser. She’s understandably embarrassed with her situation but opens to Art. Chloe has just as much impact on Art’s life as he does in hers. He was a loner with his own issues. They come into each other’s lives at the right time.
TRAINWRECKS & BACK CHECKS is a heartwarming and overcoming read. It is well-written and a great addition to the Slapshot series. I recommend this story to people that enjoy contemporary sports romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
This is book six in the Slapshot series and we get to learn a little more about Art Jackman the veteran defense man for the Seagulls. He doesn’t do relationships, his priority is everything hockey. He has a cute librarian like neighbor that gives him his space and he is good with everything until Chloe’s ex finds her and she could use Art’s help. Never a guy to back down, Art steps up and suggests to Chloe that they start dating to hopefully make the ex go away. As these two spend time together, get to know one another both of them realize this has become more than just a fake date. Another great read in the series where you get to know one of the Seagulls more than just a player on the ice but as a man. Also, you get to be along for the ride to see them find their lady love.

I read this a couple of weeks ago and forgot to review..I did enjoy this book, poor Chloe had gotten out of a horrible relationship and since he was rich and his family could get him out of trouble she ran and ends up living next to Art. Art sees the reaction that Chloe got when she received Roses and he knew that something was not right and for some reason Chloe brought out the protective Alpha in him. He convinces her to pretend that they are in a relationship so that her ex would leave her alone, while on this fake relationship it turns real and he comes thru for her and her for him she was just what he needed..

I really liked this book. I think it is because it is the one I most relate to. Chloe and Art are both somewhat awkward but with good hearts and genuinely care about people. Their story was a lot less sexy and a lot more violent than the others in the series, but it was still very relatable and sweet.

Art and Chloe’s romance was very enjoyable. This story offered drama, suspense and plenty of deep emotions. I liked both these characters and loved them as a couple. I felt that each of these characters needed someone and I was happy they found that person.
I’m not a fan of actual hockey but I am a diehard Gulls fan!!
Art usually keeps to himself. As a veteran hockey player, his days of clubs and puck bunnies are pretty much over. He does notice his quiet, clumsy neighbor though so when she comes home to roses all over her step, he recognizes that this isn’t something that makes her happy. Chloe is determined to start her life over again after a horrible relationship. She thought she was in the clear since it’s been years with nothing but she’s not that lucky. Until Art steps in to protect her.
This book is different from the most of the rest of series with a lot more suspense. I was on the edge of seat, biting my nails, hoping that Chloe would be ok and that Art could protect her like he promised. I couldn’t put this book down. I’m sad that this series is getting ready to come to a close. I can’t get enough of the Gulls!!
