A ruthless pothunter in search of valuable artifacts ravages an ancient-Indian burial site in the beautiful LaSal Mountains of southeastern Utah. That same day, he’s found brutally murdered. Deputy Sheriff Manny Rivera suspects the killing is related to recent demonstrations and acts of lawlessness fomented by the radicalized Heritage Protection Society, an organization dedicated to the … the protection of ancient-Indian burial sites. But a subsequent sequence of deadly crimes suggests a more sinister motive, one which also threatens the deputy’s life.
The story is set in the majestic red rock canyon country that surrounds Moab, Utah.

Another decent Manny Rivera book. This book got a little to preachy for y liking. Still a good read,
3.75 Stars Can’t say I like this book as much as the previous ones, but it’s still an intriguing police procedural crime drama. The plot has lots of moving pieces and the focus changes mid-stream, which came as a total shook. This book includes more action and multiple deaths.
Once again, I am awed by Manny’s investigation skills. The author only gives brief glimpses into his personal life, which is at a crossroad, as is his career. I am still hoping for a bit of romance for this over-worked detective. Manny comes to depend on his Grandpa Riveria’s wisdom and guides Manny to make a decision that doesn’t follow the letter of the law.
Love all the books in this series, and the lead character, Manny RIvera. He’s a decent cop with human feelings, and a great love for the unique scenery in and around Moab UT and the Four Corners area (where UT, CO, AZ, and NM uniquely “touch”. To me the descriptions of the area are almost as enjoyable to read as the story line, bringing back many pleasant memories of visits to the area. Another entertaining / enjoyable read.
Great series in a great setting.
Another good read by Rich Curtin.
I really enjoyed this book
enjoyed the descriptive view of the territory. intrigue of a current, different nature was refreshing, hope it was FACTUAL…….
Manny Rivera is becoming one of my all time favorite characters. This is the third book I have read so far and this character keeps getting better. The authors knowledge of locality and familiarity of the back country and canyons make you believe your hiking along side him.
A really “educational” novel about Indian artifacts and the theft thereof.
Love the way this series is written. Unique and captivating
I’ve read several of the books in the Manny Rivera series, in no particular order. They are well-written with interesting details and characters.
Love the South Western locations for novels. We have toured the Moab area and having been there it brings the story to life.
Great series!
Another great story in this series.
I like this author!
Great read. Love Manny. Love the descriptive scenery.
This series is set in southern Utah color country. It is rich in history and culture of the area. Great story and characters.
This is the 3rd book I have read by this author. I love the mystery and the adventure of the area.
Liked the characters.
Familiar with area of Moab. Made it a fun read
