I have been a huge fan of Devney since she published The Jamison Valley series. I have enjoyed every single book she’s written, including Tattered and Timid. Tragic is no different but I think this one is my absolute favorite so far. I can’t even put into words how much I freaking loved it. It was so heartbreakingly beautiful. I don’t want to spoil it but please, make sure to buy this book the second it goes live. You’ll love every minute of it, I promise. Thank you Devney for writing another fantastic book!
5 Fantastic Stars!
Sometimes life doesn’t turn out the way we expect. For Piper – life in New York was turning out to be harder and harder to cope with. The demise of her marriage was the last straw in Piper’s whirlwind life. Deciding that her life needed a drastic change, Piper headed to Montana to live near her boss and his family, an extreme contrast to the life and bustle of New York.
Tragedy has shaped Kaine’s life in a way that he never could have imagined. To combat his anger, Kaine packed up bare minimums and fled to the mountains of Montana. The solitude of ‘his mountain’ was just the thing that Kaine needed to deal with the hurt and heartache that plagued his thoughts. What Kaine never expected was an intrusion on his solitude that would change the way he looked at life.
There is a whirlwind that has come crashing on the mountain in the form of Piper. Kaine doesn’t like the intrusion into his peaceful escape, but can’t quite seem to get over his instant pull to Piper. The two embark upon a crazy banter that leads to an agreement for ‘no strings attached’ sex. The electricity was undeniable and the attraction was destined to grow into more, but how can these two damaged souls learn from the mistakes of the past?
Tragic is the latest installment in the Lark Cove series by Devney Perry. This novel deals with issues that plague someone when they feel like they have lost it all. It is a poignant look at the life that Kaine lost, while giving him the chance to find his way towards a new beginning. Piper is facing her own turmoil when she realizes that her entire life wasn’t turning out the way she desired. A reality that leads Piper towards building a new life with deep roots in Montana, a start contrast to the life she once lead in New York.
What I loved about Tragic is the way in which Devney Perry showed readers that life is far from perfect. It is a beautifully written book that lets you know that second chances are waiting in the wind, you only have to reach out and be open to the newness that will implant itself into your life. Piper and Kaine don’t start their relationship out ‘perfectly’, but it sure does lead to quite an entertaining and heartwarming epilogue.
Everything about Tragic was pure and full of emotion. The dynamic between Piper and Kaine was one that definitely will leave you wanting MORE from Perry!! Make sure you add it to your TBR list today!
Another amazing read from Devney, imagine that
This might actual be my favorite to date! I adored Piper’s personality and Kaine’s broodiness, it mixed together perfectly.
I always want to read HEA and 2nd chance loves. This was very beautifully written love story with lots of emotions. I could not put down and hands down my favorite from the series.
Buy this book or you will be sorry.
“Somewhere along the line, you stole my heart. I’m going to steal yours in return. Just wait and see.”
It should be no surprise that yet another book by the incredibly talented Devney Perry has ended up on my TOP FAVORITE list for the year. Tragic is book three in Perry’s Lark Cove series and it was absolutely breathtaking! This author pulls no punches in the emotions department. That prologue just about broke me and set a deep, but tender tone for the beginning of Kaine and Piper’s journey. From there on out it was SCORCHING hot, laced with tons of emotion, angst, and heart.
I adored our tormented ALPHA hero. My heart fractured for him and I wanted nothing more than to jump through the pages and give him never-ending hugs. You could feel his anguish through Perry’s words. It reached into my bones, giving me this urge to break down right alongside him. I don’t know if I’ve ever wanted a happily ever after more for a single character. Our heroine, the lovely Piper Campbell, is probably one of my favorite heroines of Perry’s. She’s just a natural delight. She’s down to earth, a breath of fresh air, and the perfect missing piece in Kaine’s world. These two characters were PURE MAGIC together.
This unforgettable, unputdownable romance is exactly why this author is constantly on my favorites list. With a poetic and flawless prose and characters to revere, you can’t help but GIVE IN to Devney Perry’s genius. She’s an absolute STAND OUT in this genre and I can’t wait to see what stunning story she has for us next!
This has been one of my most anticipated reads since it was announced and I cannot say enough great things about it! This story has moments of extreme heartbreak, angst, and intensity but also tenderness, heat, and an ultimate renewal for both characters.
Kaine has suffered an enormous loss and has closed himself off from everyone, preferring to be by himself with his grief. Piper has suffered her own losses but deals with them much differently. The two embark on a no-strings attached relationship and quickly the lines blur.
I love the characters that Devney creates and these characters were no different. We first met Piper in Tattered. As soon as I started reading more about her in Tragic, I immediately liked her. Kaine is gruff and very rough around the edges, but there is something about him that causes you to want to know more from the beginning. They are both very complex and layered characters.
While these stories are complete standalones, you would benefit by reading them in order. There is really no reason not to read them all!
The tragedy in Kaine’s past has him barely existing until his new neighbor Piper moves in. His initial slamming of his front door in her face doesn’t discourage her. Piper is healing from a divorce with an ex-husband that just won’t let go. Their sex only relationship seems to work until it becomes more than they planned.
I love her ‘magic cake’ that is the cure all.
When Kaine shared his past with Piper I was absolutely gutted. I still have tears writing this now. His fight to overcome his fears to be strong for Piper was so real.
Ever had one of those book that you know as soon as you start to read you know the book is going to be special? That’s the way this one was for me. I absolutely could not put it down once I started it. I was so invested in it. Such a beautiful story.
OMG! Kaine and Piper are everything! Piper is Logan’s assistant. She is moving to Montana for a fresh start after a nasty divorce. She buys a house which is a fixer upper but with lots of land. Her neighbor is Kaine who is running from his past. He is drawn to Piper who is looking for a temporary relationship based on sex. Kaine agrees. But their best laid plans fall to pieces when both start to fall. Will they overcome the secrets in their past? This is such a heartbreaking story with healing and secondary characters that we all love from this series. Devney Perry is pure magic! 5 stars
This book is amazing!!! Best read of 2018!!
Magical!
Small town, insta lust attraction turns into a smoldering slow burn romance between two unlikely people.
Yeah, I know that statement doesn’t make sense but once you dig into the story you’ll know what I’m talking about!
Sparks fly right off the bat between the 2 main characters Kaine and Piper. The result is a heartfelt, charming and heartwarming story, full of passion.
The story flowed nicely, and the underlying tension and secrecy with the 2 main characters offers the story enough angst to give it added edge.
Thus, making this read easy to become totally engrossed in.
Their unique individual situation results in the characters being so likable and relatable.
An added bonus is the sexual tension between the 2 main characters. Their chemistry was off the charts hot, intense and fun to read. Their banter was sharp and funny and there were some one liners that were just spot on!!
The result is lots of quirky “magical moments” in this story that’s best enjoyed going in blindly.
Even though this is book 3 in the Lark Series, it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.
However, characters from prior books do make an appearance and tell us what they’ve been up to. So that might be a spoiler.
4.5 stars!

It is a beautifully crafted love story featuring a broken hero and a resilient heroine with a bruised heart, and Perry masterfully blends a poignant and emotional plot with sexy romance and dashes of intrigue creating a riveting read that you don’t want put down.

“Don’t promise, prove it”
Another AMAZING book by Devney Perry.
This book was so beautiful and emotional.
One broken man who suffered a Tragic lost and a woman who suffered betrayal and hides the pain she has inside her.
Both of them attracted to each other but just wanted a no strings attached fling, but didn’t expect the surprise they got.
Kaine was so broody and grouchy. But I loved how Piper slowly made him come alive.
This story shows you how one stupid mistake can rip a whole family apart and make everyone suffer.
Like every time I finish a Devney Perry book I’m left with a huge hangover. She is an amazing storyteller and I highly recommend this book.
Can’t wait for Tinsel..
5 Magic Cake Stars!!
A story that’ll give you all the feels!
This is a beautiful story of a man living with pain and not wanting to let it go, and a woman living with the thoughts of never being able to have what she really wants and escaping NYC and a failed marriage. Kaine and Paige start out as next door neighbors but their chemistry is to strong to ignore so friends with benefits they become. This story about mistakes, forgiveness and surprises had me turning the pages so fast filled with so many feels I didn’t want it to end.
Devney Perry’s best one yet, though I do seem to say that about every book of her
Oh this book is so emotionally beautiful. Now that I’ve had a couple days to compose my feelings I can finally write my review. Devney Perry has simply blown me away once again with this book. A new favorite of mine that has me wanting to visit a Montana mountain hoping to find a rugged mountain man of my own. The angst level of this book had me tearing up more than a couple times.
Kaine, reeling from tragic events runs to Lark Cove to forget everything and everyone. Piper, picking up the pieces after her divorce is final comes to Lark Cove to start a new chapter in her life. Neighbors by chance, starts an unlikely relationship between the two of them. When the unthinkable happens Kaine is forced to confront his demons to move forward in his life, with Piper.
Heartbreaking at times and the raw truth of how life sometimes throws us curveballs shapes this story into a must read
A fantastic story of loss, hope, love, and friendship. This story will tear apart your heart and then be put back together by the masterful writing of Denver Perry. The author makes you feel the angst and takes you on a roller coaster of a lifetime and teaches about love and hope. A must read!
Love. Love love loved it. I have been in awe of all Devney’s books, and this one was no different.
I really loved the dynamic between Kaine and Piper. They had a great chemistry and it paired well with one another’s characters. They were real, and had real situations that they had been through to bring them to where they were.
I can’t give away too much, but just know that if you choose to read this you will not be disappointed one little bit!
This book will take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride of epic proportions, you’ll go from feeling like a grizzly bear has shredded your heart, tearing it into a million pieces to feeling like it’s made of marshmallow and is too big for your chest with all the warm and squidgy feelings it evokes.
After reading this book, I had to take a few days before I was able to sit and write this review as I was in such a huge book hangover. This story left me absolutely speechless, from page one, the feelings come bursting out, I went from crying so many tears I felt I should have shares in Kleenex, to my face hurting from having the biggest smile ever on it.
We meet Kaine first as he is processing his feelings after facing a tragedy no-one should go through, he is hurt, angry, confused and upset on that day and walks away leaving everything behind and going to find solace in the mountains of Montana.
‘“Kaine, it was an accident. A tragic accident.” She hiccupped. “He—” I walked away before she could finish. I walked right into the dark, wishing this blackness would swallow me whole.’
For fans of Devney Perry like me, you will remember Piper as Logan’s assistant from Tattered. After going through a messy divorce that her ex fought every step of the way, Piper decides on a new start following her boss and his wife, her new best friend, to the mountains of Montana, as far away from the crowded city streets of New York as you can get. Whilst out house hunting, Piper and Thea come across a man;
‘Even from a distance it was clear that he was the quintessential mountain man, big and brawny. My first instinct was to get closer. I wanted to see what his face looked like if his hands dropped. I wanted to see the breeze play at the curled ends of his hair. But besides his rugged appeal, there was something else drawing me in. Something that made me want to wrap my arms around his narrow waist and promise him it would be okay. He had a tragic allure, one that screamed sorrow and loss. I knew that pain all too well. Recognition hit me in a flash and I spun around, hurrying back in the direction we’d come. That man was up here to grieve, and we’d just intruded on his private moment.’
After deciding on her mountain home, Piper finds out the man they came across is her grouchy new neighbour who wants nothing to do with her and just wants to be left alone. This doesn’t work for Piper though, as the man intrigued her, she feels a pull to his pain that matches her own, so she decides they should be friends.
‘Following her lead, I scooped a bite from the middle of the cake. “Jesus Christ,” I groaned as the flavor exploded in my mouth. Piper grinned as she chewed. “Magic cake.” This cake was magic. Any remaining anger or frustration or irritation evaporated. It was just me, Piper and the best cake I’d ever had in my life.’
The attraction is there from the very beginning, but neither is prepared to let the other in or for what will become between them when their journey together takes on all its twists and turns.
Everything about this story is perfection, from the emotions we go through with Kaine and Piper, to the happiness we feel when things start to go their way, to other characters that play a part in their love story, one of whom I hope gets their own Devney Perry Happily Ever After. I just can’t recommend this book enough.
This story brought out every emotion in me and I felt thoroughly exhausted by the end of it, in the best ways possible. I couldn’t pick up another book for days afterwards because this one had left it’s indelible mark on me, I just wanted to read it again and again. This is one of the few times I’ve wished for one of those Men in Black thingamyjigs that erases memories so I could experience this story from the beginning again. I envy everyone who gets to read this from now on, because it’s such a beautifully written story, I know it will stay with me for a long time and be one of my top rereads whenever I need a pick me up.
My, oh my, Devney Perry you have given me a story with the thickest sexual tension I have ever felt. Yes, I could feel it. I seriously FELT like the third wheel in that camper… alive and rich with want and need. It just oozes from these pages. It’s been a long time since I read a story where the characters had such an instant need for each other. It really pulled me in… ok, ok… it made me fidget a bit too with their lust.
I was besotted with this story, with the characters. Piper and Kaine are both so darn likable you can’t help yourself but to want nothing but good things for them. I can’t even tell you how many times I had this sweet little smile on my face from the way these events unfolded. My heart expanded and sighed all on its own which is when I started to recall the title of this book that was completely enchanting my heart… Tragic… and I knew I was counting down the pages until Devney Perry switched it on me and I’d be left sobbing instead of sighing.
So it didn’t take much until my heart was breaking right alongside the characters. Poor Kaine has so much fear… he’s so scared to live life. The fear makes life seem impossible for him and he hides himself away in Lark Cove too scared to live. Piper is so charismatic and I seriously want to be besties with her. She’s one of the most forgiving and loving characters. Her heart is way too large for any of the tragic things that happened through her life. I so related to Piper. I’ve been in her shoes and had her heartbreak.
I really really love the way Devney Perry creates her story. She creates her characters and slowly… ever so slowly her characters develop these stories and back-stories that are so relatable and beautiful. With Tragic, I fell completely, hard, and instantly for the characters just to have my heart broken and fixed, just to have Ms. Perry break it again and heal it again. Go into Tragic with timid (no pun intended there) little steps… it’s a beautiful story but it’ll hurt a bit but it’s so very worth it. Devney Perry reminds me time and time again why I love romance, especially when characters get a second-chance at happiness. Tragic has all the feelings all tied up in one heartwarming story about forgiveness and family.
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
Speechless. This book is pure magic.
Tragic is the third installment in the lark Cove series. It can be read as a stand-alone (but does have characters from previous books in it too, however, this does not impact your understanding of each book).
Devney Perry was a new-to-me author this year. She is, without a doubt, one of my absolute favorite authors now. Her books get better and better (if that’s even possible because they are phenomenal).
Tragic tells us the story of Kaine and Piper. Each one hurting, each one looking to “get away from it all” but the attraction between the two is undeniable. They find their way between heartbreak, anger, sadness, and tragedy.
When I say this book is magic, I feel as though I need to reiterate that for emphasis. This story had me holding my breath, had me whispering words of encouragement to the characters, had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The Tragic journey for both Kaine and Piper refuses to let you go until you’ve The End.
This read deserves more than 5 stars! It deserves all the magic stars!
I love a wonderful happy ever after and this one is sitting at the top of my favorites list! If ever there was a character, a hero nonetheless, that needed a happy ending it is Kaine. His journey was heartbreaking and gut clinching. I cried over his loss but I sobbed with happiness over his ultimate triumph of a past that had left him broken.
My first bit of advice is to go into this book with as little knowledge of the plot as possible. It makes the unfolding of the story all the more wonderful as you’re pulled from not having a clue into “Oh my gosh!” I personally love when that happens.
Kaine has lived alone on the mountain for three years and he was perfectly fine with the isolation.
That’s the way he prefers it. But when his new neighbor, Piper, blows into his life his quiet solitude is shattered. In more ways than the noise coming from next door.
Piper’s feisty personality is the perfect counter point to Kaine’s broody, grouchy attitude. When these two get together things get explosive.
Their dynamic was by far the most enjoyable I’ve read in a while and their chemistry is off the charts. However, she has her own issues she’s struggling with. It takes time and self-reflection but she’s working on putting her own past behind her.
How these two work through their enemies-to-lovers-to-who-the-heck-knows is filled with so many ups and downs. I was gobbling every word up as quickly as I could because slowly absorbing them is what rereads are for. Besides, I needed to see Kaine get his HEA and along with him, Piper.
I couldn’t fathom how this author was going to bring this about. But as I mentally jumped ahead to fill in all the blanks and questions with my own answers based on your average romances, I was once again surprised how Devney Perry didn’t use the old tried and true but brought a fresh twist to a well-used trope.
There is a lot of magic in this book, just not the kind you’re probably imagining.
I absolutely loved every single thing about this story. The characters, both new and revisited, the location, the heat between the hero and heroine, and the sheer perfection of that often sought Happy Ever After.
