Tragic is the third book in the Lark Cove series, and while technically they can each be read as a standalone I highly recommend reading them all. This small town and it’s inhabitants have woven their way into my heart, and I would love an endless stream of books in order to never say goodbye to them.
Piper & Kaine’s story was incredibly beautiful, each conquering their demons and learning to let love into their hearts. While some things can never be forgotten, these two are proof that they can be accepted and overcome, and happiness is out there for everyone.
I adored Piper, she was so strong and determined to not only start her own life over, but to help Kaine with his. She is a true believer in the healing power of baked goods, and strives to see the good in everyone. Kaine is the guy you drool over from a distance, and just want to hug once you get close. He’s quiet & scarred, and just wants to be loved no matter how hard he fights it. I loved Thea & Logan’s presence throughout, and the friendships they have all formed are the truest of bonds.
I only discovered Devney Perry’s books a few months ago, and she’s quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Her writing style is so beautiful, and she has a talent for bringing each emotion and character to life, forcing the reader to invest in her every word. This book hooked me from the very beginning, and I couldn’t put it down. I have loved each book so far in this series, but Tragic is definitely my favorite.

Devney Perry’s Lark Cove series just gets better and better. Tragic, the third book in the series, involves neighbors that become more.
Kaine Reynolds just wants to be left alone, but his new neighbor won’t take the hint. Piper Campbell has moved to Lark Cove for a new start and she can see that her grouchy neighbor needs a friend. As their friendship progresses, the two fall into a fling that may end in disaster.
OMG! Why do you break my heart so Devney? I just wanted to gather Kaine up in my arms and never let him go. Piper doesn’t have it much better. This story was beautifully written, raw and real. I love this series and I have enjoyed every book thus far. I cannot wait for the next.
Sometimes I feel like I’m beating a dead drum because I absolutely can’t get enough of this author and series! Devney Perry is easily one of those authors that’s an instant-buy for me, I’ll read anything she writes. And she brings her game on strong (AGAIN!) with the third book in her Lark Cove series, TRAGIC. I can honestly say that I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one, but it was seriously nothing like I imagined. And I think Piper and Kaine’s story tops as my favorite in this series.
Well, it’s no debate that Devney sure knows how to hit you with the emotional feels where it counts. And it starts off right from the very beginning, so you know that you’re in for quite a ride.
There is nothing quiet about Piper and she just comes storming into not only Lark Cove, but Kaine’s life as well … and I loved every minute of it! A horrible divorce and itching for a new start are what brought Piper to Lark Cove. Ready for that new start in her life, comes a new house with a deep renovation project and a grumpy bear of a neighbor.
When she decides to take a little trek up the mountain trail that’s when she first sees Kaine, wide open, hurting and bearing some sort of pain. Attraction and intrigue hits Piper right in the face. And a no-strings fling is exactly what she’s looking for. But all Kaine wants is complete solitude, but you know a little fling couldn’t hurt, right?
Their story was everything! And my heart constantly broke for Kaine, his story is so unbelievably tragic and heartbreaking. How does someone come back from such a tragic event like the one he endured? Piper entering Kaine’s life was one of the best things that could have happened to him or well for each other. They needed each other to fill that void they both had and it’s absolutely beautiful to watch them fall in love little by little. Witnessing Piper slowly break down his walls was truly a sight.
The one thing that I have to say is that Piper’s ex-husband can seriously go suck an egg! I’ve got zero nice things to say about that guy…
Another Deveny Perry book read and I absolutely can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next … Tinsel! Gimme, gimme, gimme!
**AN ARC WAS GRACIOUSLY PROVIDED FOR AN HONEST REVIEW**
Devney Perry
What can I say about my favorite author of 2018?
That she’s amazing? Well, yea!
That her words are like a balm to soothe what ails you? Of course!
That everything she writes is simply the best? No doubt!
And just when you think she can’t get any better, she perfects perfection.
Devney Perry is the best at writing stories of regular love. Nothing fancy. Nothing outlandish. Love that builds over time. Love that struggles. Love that gets lost. Love that finds its way home.
Tragic is a culmination of every love story because every love story has a tragedy of some sort. Every love story takes us on a journey of self-discovery. Every love story breaks us and then puts us back together again.
Kaine is about as grumpy, distant and aloof as a man can be. The losses in his life have made him a recluse. He lives his life in solitude until . . .
Piper who’s looking for fun. Nothing serious. Nothing permanent. She just wants to forget the betrayal in her life until . . .
Surprises and circumstances take two negative souls and lead them on a discovery of a positive love.
This story is written as only Devney can. With warmth and kindness. With humor and joy. With tragedy and heartbreak. I laughed, I cried and I cheered. And in the end . . . I thanked Devney for being the brightest star to come out of 2018. (less)
I’ve read every single one of Devney Perry’s books by now, and I must say, after reading this, Tragic has got to be a new top favorite of mine. It’s a story that just begs to be read, heard and savored. One that deserves to sit on that top spot. Truly, this author never ceases to amaze me. To leave me breathless and speechless with each and every one of her books. Tragic just stole my heart, wrung it dry, and revitalized it with the kind of love, hope and second chances that only Kaine and Piper can give.
“He had a tragic allure, one that screamed sorrow and loss.”
Kaine Reynolds was a complete enigma—an enigma you’ll want nothing but to unravel and figure out. He’s brooding and so incredibly closed off, you’d think you’d need a jackhammer just to pry open and get to his layers. He was lost after an accident that flipped his whole world upside down, but beneath all that pain and anger he hides behind, is also a man with the kindest soul and the softest heart. He just needed someone—a special someone—to get him back on track and lead him back to the life he’s always destined to have all along. And when you get to know all of Kaine Reynolds? Just say goodbye to your heart and ovaries and panties. Because this guy is EVERYTHING, and he’s out to steal all of those from you and then some.
“My god, he did it for me. Head to toe, Kaine Reynolds was magic.”
Piper Campbell is this bright, buoyant ray of sunshine with her magic cakes, skillet cookies and huckleberry pies. At first glance, you wouldn’t think she’s carrying the weight of the world or the heavy burden she took with her when she moved to Lark Cove. But even though she’s had her fair share of heartbreak and devastation in life, she still has one of the most beautiful, inspiring and biggest of hearts. Her spirit is just so contagious, you’ll find yourself smiling so wide and giggling like a loon because of her. If anyone deserves hope, happiness and a dash of magic in life, it’s without a doubt this girl.
“What I needed was her. I wanted her to have all my pieces, even the ugly, misshapen ones.”
Kaine and Piper’s relationship was intense and fiery, and in no way ordinary. Their love and passion burned so bright, you’ll feel it down to your toes all throughout. I just loved that in the peace and quiet of the mountains, they found everything they were looking for together—each other, forgiveness, and the spark that brought them both back to life. The way they connected like no other and found solace in each other’s arms, the way they started their friendship that turned into something so much more, will always be ingrained in my heart and in my head.
“We’re doing everything backward. Piper had been right about that. Maybe backward was the only way we’d end up forward.”
A beautifully heart wrenching journey of love, healing, and forgiveness, Tragic was utterly nothing short of raw and gritty, and so damn emotional. It’s one of those that will sink deep into your bones and won’t leave you for a long time. Better yet, you’ll definitely want to pick it back up and just reread the whole thing once you’re done with it. It’s that addictively good.
Tragic is the third book in the Lark Cove series and can be read as a standalone.
When gut wrenching events turn Kaine into a recluse, everything he didn’t know he needed moved in next door. Piper was looking for a new start and he just wanted to be lost. Can a newly divorced woman and a man that been singed by tragedy find healing and solace in each other?
These characters will touch your heart, sear your soul and leave you breathless. Their romance will give you a visceral reaction and become a permanent part of you.
In twists and turns, push and pull, and with both of them in denial they find a love story like no other. This book is sexy, swoony and on my all-time favorites list.
These characters will touch your heart, sear your soul and leave you breathless. Their romance will give you a visceral reaction and become a permanent part of you.
Kaine and Piper’s story is just an emotional piece of amazingness. Devney Perry can write a love story where you grow with the characters and take the journey with Kaine and Piper.
Kaine has been through a unbelievable loss and is so isolated you would think nothing could draw him out. Piper leaving New York escapes for her own demons and crashes into Kaine’s life. I loved how hard and rough Kaine was! It shows how the pain of his past has molded him into the destroyed man today.
I don’t want to ruin it but you must read this amazing love story. You get a lot of angst, anger, healing, heat, and love. I loved how you get to visit characters from previous books and now a new chapter. This is my favorite Devney book. Just an amazing 5 star read.
It’s official, Devney Perry writes some of the best small town, contemporary romance stories around!! Her words have a way of sweeping you up and placing you between the pages, right there with the characters. And Tragic totally consumed me. The characters, the setting, even the cover is pure perfection.
Kaine and Piper’s journey is magical, it’s moving, heart-wrenching and emotional. Kaine has been living a life of solitude. Up in the mountains, all alone with his tools and the trees. He needs nothing more, hiding away and running from his past.
Then Piper arrives in town and purchases the property next door. And from that moment on, Kaine’s peace is shattered and both of their lives are going to change.
An absolutely stunning story from the very first page to the last!! A story with all the feels, but with some humour laced in too.
Lark Cove is such a wonderful setting and in this story we get to catch up with other characters from the previous books. I just love the way this story was written and the way it made me feel. I was on edge, hoping, praying that these characters could work through the huge challenges they were faced with.
I LOVED IT! An absolute must-read story, and one I highly recommend.
5+++ Stars!
Kaine Reynolds is the kind of tortured soul that you fall in love and root for from the first page. His beautifully broken self longs to be discovered and the Easter eggs of discovery that Devney weaves into the story make it impossible to put down.
Piper Campbell is in her own world of hurt and recovery. Montana is a new start for her and lands her next door to a handsome neighbor whom she shared off the charts chemistry with in the form of Kaine Reynolds. I have been longing to know her story since I first met her in Tattered and it was more than worth the wait.
The shared pain of their different, but equally difficult paths weaves them together in the most beautiful way to create a healing partnership for both. Tragic is tragic, but beautiful and healing and typical of the magic that I’ve come to expect from Devney Perry in her Lark Cove Series.
Tragic is another winner from Devney Perry, and she proves tragedy can lead to magic!
This is Kaine and Piper’s story. It involves pain and suffering so be prepared to shed some tears. As usual, Perry will make it up to you!!!! Kaine has spent the past years in solitude dealing with a tragic loss that many people would never recover from. He chooses to deal with his pain by himself that is, until a beautiful stranger moves next door completely taking away his solitude.
Piper moves to the town of Lark Cove, leaving behind a bitter divorce. She is hoping to find some peace and maybe a chance for a no-strings affair to alleviate the pain after her ex-husband’s betrayal. She loves her new home…her new neighbor, Kaine, not so much! Granted, he is easy on the eyes, but his attitude stinks. Yet, she doesn’t let his anger towards her affect her. There is no mistake, there is a mutual annoyance and frustration between the two of them, but there is also a massive undercurrent of lust. One fateful day, these two cross the line into lust, and things are never the same again!
The ingredients of a great story for me need to consist of three things: a good story, great characters, and a great setting. Perry always excels at this! For instance, she had my heart in knots from the prologue. From there, the story fell into place, and I was hooked.
She also manages to create characters that I always feel a connection with, and this book was no different. My heart was Kaine’s from the very beginning. I knew he was going to be a complicated and complex character. I might not always be happy with him, and he might make me mad…yet he had a piece of my heart. With Piper’s patience and love, he became the person he was always meant to be.
Piper was like a ray of sunshine in Kaine’s dark storm. Don’t get me wrong, she wasn’t without her flaws either. She had a hard time trusting men, and I couldn’t blame her. Kaine wasn’t the best person to trust your heart to, but Piper was patient with him. Like Kaine, she wasn’t the same person she was in the beginning either…she was much better.
Perry created such a unique, charming town in Lark Cove. The setting is beautiful, and she writes with such detail that I feel like I’m there myself. Each time I return, she shows me something else beautiful and special about it.
As I wrote earlier, Devney Perry manages to write a novel that pulls at my heartstring. To me, she is much more than a just a writer, but she is an immensely talented storyteller. That is always what makes me come back for anything she writes!!!!
Tragic is a beautiful and emotional second chance romance. It is a story that is sure to tug on your heart strings while giving you all the feels.
Told from dual points of view, Tragic follows the story of Piper and Kaine. Fresh from her divorce, Piper wants nothing more than a fresh start and to put the past behind her. She’s not looking for anything serious, but a fling might be just what the doctor ordered to mend her broken heart…..Kaine wants nothing but to bury the ghosts of his past and deal with his grief in his own way. He’s found solitude in the mountains of Montana and is happy with the status quo. All is going according to plan until a new neighbor moves in. When his gruff exterior doesn’t scare Piper away, a fire is ignited in Kaine. Feelings he thought were buried have been put to the forefront. Passion is ignited and lines will be crossed. Will a no strings attached fling be what the doctor ordered or will it turn Kaine & Piper’s world upside down….
Tragic is the kind of story that just grabs you from the very first page. The prologue just tugged at my heart and brought tears to my eyes. I was instantly hooked and couldn’t wait to read more. Piper and Kaine’s story is the kind that I just love to get lost in. It’s consuming and makes you feel so many emotions. It’s the kind of story you can’t help but devour because you don’t want to put it down. And honestly, there’s nothing better than a second chance romance that digs its heels into your soul.
Piper and Kaine had me from their very first encounter. Kaine’s pain and heartache was so palpable. He was so closed off. In fact, he was quite the jerk at times. He just had so many demons he was trying to keep at bay. But, I just knew under all that gruff exterior was an amazing man. I lived for the moments when he would let you in. Those moments when he was unguarded and real. He was a truly sweet and passionate man. And when he fell in love….oh, boy! All bets were off. And Piper….Ugh! Her story was heartbreaking as well. She had such a big heart and had so much love to give. She could have let her divorce destroy her, but instead, she had this amazing outlook. She wasn’t going to give up. She had a calming way about her and was just the balm that Kaine needed in his life…He just didn’t know it yet.
Together Kaine and Piper were an unstoppable force. Both looking for peace and solace and instead found an all consuming love that they never expected. I loved their passion and determination. Life threw so many obstacles at these two. Both of them hurt and betrayed by the ones they loved. Kaine’s demons really struck a chord with me and I can’t even count how many times my heart broke for him. It was no wonder that he had a hard time dealing with his emotions and didn’t know how to handle the feelings that Piper brought out of him. I just ached for the moment when everything would be ok and those demons would finally be laid to rest. The road to happily ever after wasn’t an easy one for these two, but I truly enjoyed every moment of it. The good. The bad. The ugly. The parts that hurt. Kaine & Piper didn’t just save themselves, they saved each other.
Tragic is a beautiful and heartbreaking story. It’s a story of two broken and lost souls just trying to find their way in the world again. It’s a story of healing and forgiveness. A story of escape and learning to move on. It’s a story of taking that leap towards love and fighting for what you want. So many times I found myself with tears in my eye and in the next moment I was swooning over Kaine. Yes, that broody, gruff man knocked me off my feet and I just swooned over the love he had for Piper.
In the end, Tragic is one of those stories that I know will stick with me for a while. It’s so incredibly well written and it’s definitely one of those stories that I would recommend having tissues near by for. Kaine & Piper’s story captivated me and left me speechless. I’m still so full of emotions as I’m writing this review and hope that all of my feelings make sense. I just loved every single moment of this story from beginning to end. If I could give this story a million stars, I totally would. Tragic is definitely a top read for me from this author.
This is the third book in the Lark Cove series and so far, it’s my favorite. I love small town love stories like this, especially where 2 broken people find and mend each other. Kaine is a very private person who wants to be left alone. He has moved to the mountains of Montana to escape his tragic past so he buys a small house in Lark Cove. The only neighboring house that is close by doesn’t have anyone living in it until Piper enters the picture and decides this would be the perfect “fixer upper”. She, too, is trying to escape her past. Kaine wants quiet but as soon as the remodeling begins, so does the noise. He sets out to give his new neighbor a piece of his mind, but when he lays eyes on her, things change….like A LOT!!! I loved the emotional roller coaster this book took me on. Piper is one of my favorite heroines because she is full of sass and gives as good as she gets from Kaine. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind and Kaine isn’t sure what to do with that. He surely does figure it out though. Kudos to Devney Perry once again for making me feel like I was right in the middle of the story. I could see and feel everything that happened in those mountains between those two. I absolutely LOVED it!!!
There aren’t enough words to describe the incredible humanity described in this book. There is a wealth of feelings, ranging from the depths of despair to anger, happiness, satisfaction, laughter and beauty. The author takes us on a roller coaster tale of two persons who have suffered loss and how they find completion in each other.
Kaine suffered an unspeakable tragedy that drove him into the mountains to live in isolation. Piper had just gone through a lengthy divorce that left her shattered. She moved from New York City to Lark Cove looking for distance from her ex husband. Since she works as Logan Kendrick’s assistant in the Kendrick Foundation, it was a perfect move, nearer to her boss and far from the noise of the city.
Piper ended buying a house in the mountains, near Kaine’s cottage. Piper wanted the serenity of the mountains, but Kaine didn’t want the company. Although initially there were skirmishes, Piper’s magic cake won Kaine over into the enemy camp. Her presence gave him peace from his demons, and for Piper he was gorgeous and just perfect for a fling. This was a story of recovery. They were both devastated from past experiences and their mutual company provided the respite they needed. There were more skirmishes, some witty repartee, and their story was plagued with emotional moments, huge angst, and great sexy times.
I loved seeing old friends, now with children, and their great support system. I loved both characters because they were generous with their caring and devotion, even with their fractured hearts. Piper was a strong woman and didn’t cower when Kaine lost his temper. Instead, she was the calm in his storm, same as he was the protector of her heart. Even though their relation was stop and go for a while until they got sorted, they very much cared. Lovely read!
Oh My Gosh y’all, this book…. it gave me goose bumps. Actually the whole series has but Kaine he has my heart. I just want to take this man and give him the biggest hug, hold him tight and not let go. He and Piper both have been through so much and their pain became my pain.
I love this authors work because of that. She puts you right there with them and the way she writes is absolutely phenomenal. This book is about heartbreak, love and forgiveness. Definitely grab the Kleenex your going to need them.

Tragic by Devney Perry is the third book in her standalone contemporary romance series, Lark Cove . The story of Piper and Kaine, told in dual POV and heart-achingly beautiful. These two people with such tragic stories are able to come together and ease those painful parts in each other.
Piper has to get away from New York and everything that reminds her of her ex-husband Adam. When the opportunity to follow her boss and his family to Montana arises she jumps at it and finally settles on a time-locked house in the woods that is a shout-out to decades past with it’s interior design and appliances. So living in an airstream on the property while construction crews come in and make this her forever home she doesn’t expect the surly mountain man neighbor to show up pounding on the airstream door. But boy is she glad he did!
Kaine has wanted nothing but solitude for three years. ever since it happened and he lost them both he left his hometown behind and craved the quite and solitude he had found here in the outskirts of Lark Cove…UNTIL his gorgeous neighbor moved in with her loud generator kicking on at all times and the construction crew working non-stop. He will just have to go over there and tell her to keep it down, that it’s encroaching on his work and she needs to be quiet. (Let’s see how well that works for him).
Sparks are instantaneous between these two. The chemistry is palpable and practically leaps off the page. Another page turner from a must-read author. While each book in this series can standalone, the world of Lark Cove would be better enjoyed by reading the series in order. Enjoy!
Kaine and Piper both have a past. Kaine went through a loss no one should ever have to experience and Piper is a recent divorcee who was hurt by her husband’s infidelity. Piper is ready for a fresh start and to begin her new life in Montana. Kaine has been hiding from his misery for 3 years and can’t move forward. The moment these two meet, it’s fireworks. The chemistry is off the charts and can’t fight their attraction. What I loved so much about this story was that even though they both had things to overcome, they both knew there was something special about how they felt about each other and it was so romantic. This is the kind of romance that I love to read, not just a physical connection but incredibly well developed and emotional. This was a fantastic book, my favorite by this author, a top pick of 2018 and I highly recommend it!
Tragic is the perfect title for this amazing story. Kaine’s history was beyond tragic and heartbreaking. The grief and anger were a living, breathing part of him. Piper held her pain inside, from the things she had gone through. They each carried the weight of their pasts on their souls. I really loved every part of their journey. From the first moment she sees him in the field, they had an intense connection. Despite any ups and downs, it was strong and kept them coming back to each other in some way. Reading this book gave me an incredibly emotional ride. I laughed out loud a lot, swooned and melted over the romance, and I cried tears of hurt and hope. Another beautifully written story by one of my top favorite authors.
Tears of sorrow and pain, but tears of joy and laughter as well
Book 3 in the Lark Cove series, while this works well as a standalone characters do carry over from book to book, so if you want the full background, I’d recommend reading the series in order.
I’m a sucker for tortured hero stories so I would have been hooked by this even if it wasn’t by one of my auto 1-click authors and, like Piper, while sometimes I wanted to smack Kaine, mostly I just wanted to give him a hug. I adored Piper, this smart, strong, intelligent woman who needs healing just as much as Kaine, and I felt deeply for both these characters. Let me say, Piper was a lot more patient with him then I would have been, but that’s just part of the reason they work so well together.
There were great secondary characters here adding depth, and the plot had added suspense surrounding the mystery behind the full story of Kaine’s history, which fully lives up to the book’s title. But don’t let that title fool you, while there are tears of sorrow and pain here, there are tears of joy and laughter as well. At one point, I literally had to put the story down so I could wipe my eyes I was laughing so hard, though that may partly be my sometimes twisted sense of humor. I don’t want to give away any spoilers so I’ll just say that Piper had a mishap involving Kaine’s cabin—you’ll recognize it when you get there.
A little bit of enemies to lovers, then lovers to friends back to lovers, this story has the great characters and all the emotions that I’ve come to expect from this author, and I’m looking forward to the next in the series. 5+ stars

Told in dual POVs – Piper & Kaine
Also includes a preview of the next book, Tinsel after the epilogue.
I loved the characters, the location, the cameos of characters from previous books and how this romance didn’t follow the cliched pattern of most romance book timelines.
Typically – Girl meets boy, get to know one another either from flirting, fighting or accidentally running into each other a thousand times then angst/misunderstanding, forgiveness and eventually an HEA.
This story starts differently right out of the gate and twists and turns throughout.
This unpredictability is one of the things I loved about the book, but it also makes it difficult to review without giving spoilers.
Kaine moved to the mountains in Lark Cove to get away from his past.
He internalizes the pain and memories of his previous life that drove him there.
Piper wants a fresh start and away from NYC and an ex-husband.
She falls in love with the location and is intrigued by her grouchy neighbor with the sad eyes.
That’s all I’m going to reveal about them.
Go into this story blind and just know that no matter where Devney takes you on her creative story journey, she never lets go of your hand.
The ingredients of this book are angst, anger, betrayal, lies, loss, tenderness, sassiness, strong sexual chemistry and revelations all mixed up to unfold at just the right time to tell the story without following the usual pattern.
I love that I found Devney right after the release of her 1st book, The Coppersmith Farmhouse.
I shouted her praises from my virtual rooftop and told anyone who would listen to read her book.
I’ve never been sorry for recommending her.
She has proven to me, book after amazing book that she not only has the gift of unique storytelling but has the ability to create worlds like Jameson Valley and Lark Cove that suck you in and you become a part of, as well.
Sometimes debut authors write all of their best material that they ’ve jotted down in a notebook throughout their life and stuff it all in the 1st book.
This causes the 2nd, 3rd, etc. book’s contents to be slightly diluted and lose some of the original creativity.
THIS IS NOT IN THE CASE OF DEVNEY’S BOOKS.
She’s like a creative unpredictable snowball that while rolling down the Montana mountain gets larger and larger and more beautiful with each book.
I hope that paints the picture I’m trying to convey.
I promise I’m sipping tea right now and not whiskey.
