Devney Perry has done it again! TRAGIC pulled at all of my heartstrings. If you love a broody, broken hero, TRAGIC is a must read!
Piper Campbell! The newest resident of Lark Cove! Sarcastic and quickwitted, yet so very vulnerable. Life has not been very kind to her, yet she keeps moving forward. Keeps living through her brokenness as truths about her life before Montana are revealed. Simply put, Piper Campbell is indestructible.
Kaine Reynolds is a grinch. A big mountain of a snappy man always with short answers. Preferring isolation and quietness, Kaine is not living life at all. He’s simply existing on his secluded mountain. The man he was before—now invisible. Instead, a gloomy version of himself remains—angry and dejected with a sense of foreboding.
Soon, Kaine’s desolate life is interrupted when he gets a new neighbor. A new neighbor who recognizes the pain he is harboring upon first perusal. A beautiful woman that takes the broken pieces he offers as her own, filling up her brokeness. But she gives, too. Gives him magic. Gives him healing. Gives him calm through his raging storms. The center that always seems to bring him back to gravity. And oh boy, together they were sensual and sultry, seductive and just downright passionate about each other. Falling blindly into a love affair that was never expected. From enemies to friendly neighbor’s to parallel lovers—Kaine and Piper were, in fact, kindred spirits that found solace in one another.
Devney Perry once again shows her talent for penning such beautiful imagery throughout her novels. But she doesn’t stop there! She brings you into her world, pours her heart out into her words, solidifying you as a staple in her towns.
With quick references to the town that started it all and foreshadowing of what’s to come, this is a book you finish and immediately wish to relive every gasp, every stolen breathe, every punch to the soul and squeeze to the heart. And though I say it often, this is a book that just so happens to be my new favorite, Devney Perry novel!! Bewitching, compelling, and emotionally charged—Tragic is by all means tragic, yet filled with immense magic and a happily ever after worthy of all the turmoil!
Tragic by Devney Perry was magic. This beautiful book stole my heart, my breathe, my very being!!! This time around was a bit sad returning back to Lark Cove . For this book was truly heartbreaking and raw.
Kaine Reynolds. There isn’t a more broken, lost, and angry man than Kaine. He’s suffered unimaginable loss and pain and through that he finds a glimmer of hope and life again thanks to his beautiful and feisty neighbor. All I wanted was to hug him so tight and never let him go.
We first met Piper Campbell in Tattered. She’s Logan’s assistant and good friend. This radiant soul has endured so some punches from life. Recently divorced and looking for her new forever home, she finds her perfect place among the mountains but what she never expected was falling for her broody and intense neighbor #swoon
What began as a no-strings casual relationship soon turns into this whirlwind of emotions that sucker punchs you at every turn. Just watching these two fall for one another was magic in itself.
The relationship between these two broken souls was so spellbinding. They saved one another. Kindred spirits that must learn to forgive and live again. What a beautiful disaster!
This book was everything you want in a angsty romance story. Heartfelt, tragic (very much so), emotional, and at times passionate. You will feel everything all at once with this book. By far Devney’s best work in my opinion. My absolutely favorite in this series (I say this now). Queen Perry does not play around when it comes to emotionally filled stories! A must read always and forever!
Tragic wasn’t at all what I was expecting because it was so much more. I loved it so very much!
Piper & Kaine are such an amazing couple!
Kaine Reynolds ran from his shattered life, he needed an escape from the total devastation that was his world. He found the perfect place for him, his secluded mountain.
Piper Campbell ran from her shattered life, she needed an escape from the ultimate betrayal of her husband. She found that in the tranquility of Lark Cove. It’s exactly what she needs. Peace, quiet, beauty and a fresh start.
What she wasn’t expecting was the brooding, grumpy, sex on a stick neighbor; they couldn’t deny the electricity between them nor could they deny the feelings that were inevitable.
She’s ready and willing to open her heart again, but with so much darkness in his past, he’s not really sure he can do the same. Well, that is until they find out they’ve made the best kind of connection!
I adore the Lark Cove crew, and just like every other Devney Perry character these two do not disappoint. They made me laugh, they made me cry, they made me giddy.
There’s nothing Tragic about my love for this story!
This book is all about the hope after hurt and the road to healing. I wasn’t sure if I’d love this story when it seemed like this was just about a hot hookup next door. But it wasn’t. It was so much more. The healing that takes place between Piper’s past and Kain’s is so beautifully destructive that I couldn’t put this book down. It was the perfect balance of story development and character arc- I loved the ups and downs and the reality that comes with loss and grief and how much sense it doesn’t make. Perry captured the grief aspect of this story perfectly. Can’t wait for the next installment of the Lark Cove Series.
Is there anything Devney Perry can’t write? I mean seriously- while Tragic is different from the other books in the Lark Cove series (as in there isn’t the heart stopping suspense) it still sucker punched me right in the feels.
I LOVED Piper. She was eccentric and kind and even though she’s had her heartbroken, she was living life on her terms. Which included a cross-country move to go with her fresh start. And a neighbor hiding from his pain with his woods and brood.
Goodness me did I LOVE Kaine. His brokenness. His guilt. His anger. His talent. His fire. And how he couldn’t stay away from Piper even when he wanted to. Their first meeting was nothing short of explosive. In fact, I liked how they worked backwards. Fire then friendship. It was the in between that struck me the most. Those calm, quiet moments when both Piper and Kaine got to just be that spoke the loudest.
Until they weren’t. Holy smokes. Talk about unexpected. Piper had no clue how to handle the news and Kaine was thrown for an even bigger loop. This one thing stilted all the progress they had made. But it also forced them both to make some very hard choices. Forgiveness the biggest of them all.
Tragic was just that, centered around tragedy but what was more, was how Piper and Kaine allowed that to change the course of their life. I enjoyed that there was more than one sighting of the rest of the Lark Cove crew in this book. And how they rallied around Piper and even the reclusive Kaine. Devney Perry took these two beautifully broken characters and gave them what they never dared to dream they could have, magic.
Absolutely my favorite so far of the Lark Cove books. Each and every word written by Mrs. Perry is absolutely beautiful and heart warming.
Page one had me catching my breath and my heart breaking for Kaine. His history and backstory gutted me and I loved watching him grow and change from his gruff caveman lifestyle of merely existing to feeling again and realizing it’s ok to let go of and accept the past.
I loved Piper and her handling of her past. She wasn’t a doormat and was not one to be reckoned with. It was such a joy to watch her and Kaine “go backwards” in their relationship journey. Their neighbors-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-friends-to-lovers journey is epic and a bit odd from the start, but they worked through it all and it was an absolute lovely journey to watch unfold.
WOW! Devney slays it with this book! This is one of those books where you have to savor moments because the story is so emotionally raw and beautiful!
Piper and Kaine, two characters I instantly fell in love with! We’ve known and loved Piper from the beginning of Lark Cove. What we didn’t know is that she’s been hiding her pain from the world. Determined to forge ahead, she’s rebuilding her life in Lark Cove. Not letting anyone know, that behind it all, she’s broken, shattered and struggling.
Kaine has suffered a tragic and horrendous loss he can’t overcome. He has left everyone and everything behind to hide in the Montana wilderness.
These two have more in common than they know. Both souls suffering the anguish of betrayal, leaving everything behind for the sake of survival. But, Kaine’s suffering is so great I don’t think it’s possible to come back from such devastation. Despite the strength in the walls they have built, they are still remarkably vulnerable, scared, and yearning for love.
Luck makes them neighbors. Chemistry makes them bed buddies. But what happens when it becomes more? What happens when magic cake is served?
Despite the angry cave man persona Kaine displays, I loved the playfulness he exhibits with Piper. The scene where he measures her ear is hysterical. With Piper he starts to feel whole again. She is the perfect person to bring him back into the human world. Well, that and magic cake.
“I’d just been drifting-until a beautiful woman came into my world and saved it with her magic cake.”
“A sense of pride filled my chest, squeezing out the pain from past memories, knowing I was the cause of his smile and laugh was empowering. I did that. Me. I made Kaine smile. He made me forget.”
But, the healing isn’t for Kaine alone. Piper is becoming stronger and able to break the ties needed for her healing as well. It isn’t an easy road for these two. The challenges are real and the damage is great. But, I found that the devastation being as unbearable as it was, made the beautiful moments all the more magnificent. A reminder to us all that we need stop and smell the roses.
This is a very well written and deeply moving story.
Devney Perry delivers another wholly engrossing, richly developed and layered story in her fantastic Lark Cove series with Tragic. Perry’s writing is on point here as she introduces readers to two newcomers to the small Montana town of Lark Cove. While the characters from her other books in this series do appear in this one, the focus is very much on the main characters of this story, Kaine and Piper. Perry’s writing took me into their lives, into their blossoming romance and into their pain of their pasts. Tragic was the kind of story that ripped me to shreds, and yet, somehow the author found a way to painstakingly put me back together.
The story opens with a prologue that brought me to tears, and Perry continues dishing out the devastation in the first chapter as she lays out the story behind the cover image. Kaine Reynolds is a broken man. Shattered by an unimaginable loss, he leaves his decimated life behind and lands in Lark Cove. Years of solitude on his mountain has not brought this man any closer to healing, he is still very much broken, very much alone and very immersed in the darkness of his grief. Kaine’s emotional tumult was a living, breathing part of him, and Perry vividly depicted the raw, gut-wrenching emotions of this man, capturing them on the page for the reader to experience.
Newly divorced, Piper Campbell has relocated to Lark Cove for a fresh start and to be closer to her boss, Logan. Full of positivity, Piper is the light to Kaine’s dark, and it’s fireworks on the fourth of July between the two of them from the moment they meet. She has her own issues to work through, but it’s Kaine who needs to truly heal before anything real can develop. Perry takes readers on this couple’s journey to healing and love, and I was riveted in place, furiously tapping my Kindle as I consumed this story.
Devney Perry masterfully blends heartfelt emotion with sexy romance to bring this small-town romance to life, and she deftly deals readers a one-two punch to the feels in Tragic. It was intense and emotional while still managing to be sexy, romantic, and, at times, even sweet. I couldn’t get enough of Kaine and Piper’s story, and I loved every single word of it. Five smooches from me for Tragic by Devney Perry!

4.5***
Well as I’ve said before i don’t read a series all in one row but here i am reading the third book straight after the other two and another great story for this series.
I loved Piper in Logan’s book and we knew there was something going on in her life and i was so happy to know that her story was next.
This story was about heartbreak, forgiveness, moving on, it was such a fantastic book and written so well.
You had Piper who had been through a divorce and moving to Montana and then you had Kaine who basically ran away to Montana and these two ignited sparks as soon as they met.
There was twists and turns in this book and i loved that as it kept me reading the book as fast as i could cause i wanted to read how all this ended.
If you into the small town stories with surprises and emotion then this is the book for you
