Oh my goodness! Tissues, you will need ALL the tissues for this one! What an absolute roller coaster of emotions! This isn’t just a story, it’s an emotional journey of pain, heartbreak, love and healing. Kaine and Piper are so perfect for each other and this is by far my favourite book of this series so far. I can’t wait to read it again and again.
Tragic is the third book in the Lark Cove Series, which are all standalones with connecting characters. We were introduced to Piper Campbell as Logan Kendrick’s assistant in Tattered, book one.
Piper relocated to a Lark Cove after a messy divorce. She is looking to break ties and put distance between herself and her former life.
“Kaine couldn’t know, but what he’d done for me this afternoon had broken the chains I’d wrapped around my heart these last few years.”
Kaine Reynolds is gruff, brooding, taciturn and a bit sullen. When Piper moves in next door and begins renovations he tries to just keep to himself, but the chemistry and pull proves too much to resist.
“I wouldn’t let myself believe that I could heal his broken heart. Or that he could heal mine.”
I loved the push and pull of this story. Both Kaine and Piper have pasts that they need to deal with before either can move on. Tragic is a beautiful, emotional story. I fell in love with these characters! I longed for their healing and for them to find their HEA!
-4.5 Stars!-
Another awesome and amazing book by Devney Perry! Tragic is the third installment of Devney Perry’s Lark Cove Series. I am absolutely blown away by this series. Each book gets better than the ones before it. Even though this is the third book in her series it can be read as a standalone. You get some characters from previous books but along with that you get new characters to fall in love with. From the first page I was drawn in and did not stop reading until it was over. I did not want it to end. I love how Devney can take such tragedy and turn it into something so beautiful. I just love her writing style it is so emotional. This book will having you going through all your emotions you will crying, you will feel the hurt of the characters and you will feel the joy that they find. It’s all there. I highly recommend this book and series to all romance readers you will not be disappointed. I can’t wait for the next book.
5 Finding the Magic Stars!!
This third book in the Lark Cove series has been one of my most anticipated reads since I found out this series was being written. There’s something about two damaged people finding redemption and love that just does it for me. And Ms. Perry has delivered a story that had me crying in the prologue. But those tears dried and my heart expanded with each chapter that I read.
Kaine Reynolds is a man that is suffering a heart wrenching tragedy and he finds living alone in the hills of Lark Cove, Montana his solution to getting away from it all…until Piper invades his mountain. And when she sees this gorgeous man doing what she thinks is praying…
“He had a tragic allure, one that screamed sorrow and loss. I knew that pain all too well.”
Piper for her part has moved to Lark Cove for a fresh start from her recently ended marriage and to continue to be Logan’s assistant. This is exactly what she needed…and she had no intentions of finding love or a man for that matter. But what’s a woman to do when there’s a tall and gorgeous man next to her with a swagger that screams sex appeal but to jump his bones!! And so begins what’s supposed to be a casual friends with benefits relationship.
The thing with these types of relationships though is generally they lead to more and when one or both of the people involved aren’t open to that “more,” it can lead to some very hurt feelings. I fell in love with both Piper and Kaine for different reasons. I supported Piper’s need to have the fresh start after having her dreams crushed, which by the way, may not necessarily the case. I completely understood Kaine’s desire to get away from it all because oh my goodness what he experienced would break the strongest man.
Along the way to them finding an even ground that maybe means a forever love, there’s so very rambunctious sexy times as well as some sharing of past events. But there’s also a trust that builds between our H/h was eye-opening for both of them. It’s a rather rocky road to them both expressing their love. The past comes knocking on their doors too and how they each deal with it is very different and eye opening.
When plans and dreams change Piper embraces it whole heartedly and Kaine, well he irritated me just a little bit because this could be his second chance, but he sometimes can’t see what’s right in front of him! I loved Piper even more when she tried to understand and didn’t give up on him but forced him to also face some truths which showed Kaine what real love is about, but he’s not sure he can be the man Piper needs or deserves, but he so wants to try….
“‘Don’t promise,’ she whispered. ‘Prove it'”
This book is everything I was hoping for in getting Piper’s story. We not only get new characters to love, but also we get our favorite characters from the previous books along with a few special mentions. Ms. Perry consistently delivers a story that lets me escape my everyday life allowing me to sink into a story that has love, passion, angst and chemistry that draws me from beginning to end!
Another amazing and beautiful book by Devney Perry! This is a story about two people who have been put through the wringer. Kaine’s loss was gut wrenching and so tragic. He was in so much pain and had so much anger, it was almost too much. To deal with his pain he just shut everyone out and became a recluse. And poor Piper, after a horrible divorce she is ready to start over and moves as far away from New York as possible. Even though their first meet wasn’t the greatest, you can feel the chemistry. Their journey to their happily ever after is a rollercoaster ride of emotions, but it was so worth it.
I loved Piper so much! I loved the way she was with Kaine, she knew how to approach when he was at his lowest. She brought him some peace he desperately needed. And throughout their journey, their chemistry was explosive! They did have ups and downs but ultimately with Piper’s help, Kaine was able to let go of the pain and heal and learn to forgive.
I loved their story so much. Another hit from a favorite author of mine.
How does she do it? How does Devney Perry keep writing amazing books? I’d say it was the *magic cake* but I think she’s just magic.
Every book… every single book, I’m still blown away by her words.
Piper and Kaine are such an emotional roller coaster and this is one ride you don’t want to miss!
This book had me on pins and needles. That cover and that title alone already had me bracing for impact. Even though my anxiety was through the roof, I also knew that Devney Perry would soothe the soul at the end. And she did.
It also wasn’t as bad as my imagination. There is tragedy but I think the author did such a good job of showing the healing process and still give us good times to this couple and their story.
I really love the sense of family from all the side characters that this author is known to add to a story. The small town setup is a favorite of mine. The more characters to love, the better.
Kaine had such a sad story I was afraid we wouldn’t get much couple time together for these two. What surprised me was that Piper was just as closed off as Kaine and yet we still got to see them grow in character together. I love that.
This book was over too soon and once again, I find my self impatient for the next one in the series!
Why did it have to end? Why??? I feel like I could keep reading their story all my life!!! Kaine is everything! Everything!!!
And this was my first thought as soon as I read – The End – on this book.
When a book makes me feel as much as this one did, I tag it as – locked in my mind forever- because I know it will be. I love Montana more and more since I started reading the Lark Cover series, I feel like I really went for a hike with the characters and felt the wind blowing on my face. The smells of the forest and the ice on the road. I love to travel within the books I read. That’s the only chance I have to be in places that really exist and I doubt I will ever have the chance to travel there, so when an author gives me this beautiful gift, making me feel like I am there too, I grab it and lock it in my mind forever! I also felt the hurt, the pain, the despair, the strength, the love and the hope these characters felt within the pages of this book.
Tragic is the story of Kaine, a broken man with a tragedy in his past and Piper (Logan’s assistant) that moved to Montana to start a new life after a divorce.
From the story I will not say anything else, because believe me, if you go in blind the experience is even better, but I can assure you a good time, a lot of angst and some tears but also a beautiful and emotional love story!
All. The. Emotions. This book was fire! Lark Cove is a place I want to live and Kaine and Piper made it even more lovely. I highly recommend this 5 star read!
* A review copy was provided by the author for the Blog Tour *
OMG!! I don’t even know where to start to do this story justice with my review. I am absolutely LOVING this series by Devney Perry. Each of these books just gets better than the one before it. And that’s saying something since Book 1… Tattered was just AMAZING!!!
Tragic is a heartbreaking and emotional love story. It’s a story about forgiveness, moving on and finding love. Both Piper and Kaine have been through something tragic and have left them both a little broken.
As I continue to read Denver’s books, I fall more and more in love with her writing. Her storylines are heartfelt, full of emotion and will even keep you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages. I always have the same thought after I finish her books….Why did this have to end?? I always want more!!! Devney has created such an amazing world I can’t help but want to be a part of it. Her writing is flawless!! I love the flow and pace of each of her stories. Whenever I pick up one of her stories, I am lost in the pages until the end!! They just suck me in 😉
Tragic is the third novel in her Lark Cove Series. Each of these books can be read as a standalone, but you will see past characters built into each of the books. So I would recommend reading these in order to get the full appreciation of this series. Tragic is told in Dual POV, just like the other books.
In this story we follow the story of Kaine and Piper. Piper is Logan’s assistant and has just moved to Lark Cove from New York. She has given up everything to relocate to Lark Cove after having her heart broken. She is determined to start over in Montana. So when she finds a new house for sale in a secluded area of the mountains, she is immediately interested. Kaine has also escaped to Lark Cove to start over and hide away from the world. Kaine has suffered something so tragic 3 years earlier that it has left him a broken man, who doesn’t believe in love or a future. So when he gets a neighbor in his quiet area of Lark Cove, he is less than thrilled. They start off rough but eventually they get under each other skin and open up their eyes to a whole new world. Can Piper break down Kaine’s walls?? What happens when something unexpected happens and shakes Kaine’s world?? Can Piper and Kaine find their HEA?? Read this fantastic story to see how it all works out.
I loved seeing past characters in this story. Their lives are so intertwined that all the characters in this story lend an important hand to Piper and Kaine’s story.
I would 100% recommend this book to all romance readers. Devney Perry has become an auto read author for me. She hasn’t let me down yet!!! I would recommend all her books to every reader. She gives just a little bit of everything in her stories. This book is a MUST READ!!!
Even Tragedy can bring the magic of love.
You know when you read a book and you find everything you’re looking for and even things you had no idea you needed? Well, Tragic is like that. I’m trying to find the right words here, because I’m afraid I maight say the wrong thing that will make the book not seem everything that it is.
Tragic – this overwhelming, fullfeeling, heartbreakingly and beautifully written story – has the magic power to give you the solace for whatever problem you might have.
When I read the blurb, I had this story lined in my head, and although I wasn’t totally off the bet, I was so surprised by the real one.
We already met Piper in Tattered. She is Logan’s right hand, assistant and close friend. And after a nasty divorce with a clingy ex-husband, she needs to find her balance and a new start in the beautiful mountains of Lark Cove.
Litlle did she know that someone else was there, occupying that same mountain also needing desperatly a place to forget about the past and to be free to feel pain.
“I’d never regret finding my mountain. It was where I’d found Piper. Or maybe she’d found me”
Kaine Reynolds. Grumpy, moody, shy and extremly reclusive new neighbor. THe one whose past no one knows about but him, and whose has been eating him alive for three years.
His pain was unbearable and his grief was so raw, that page by page, you could feel it too. It was this all consuming pain that torn your heart, even if you didn’t know for sure what had happened to let him so lost and lifeless.
“Besides his rugged appeal, there was something else drawing me in. Something that made me want to wrap my arms around his narrow waist and promise him, it would be okay. He had a tragic allure, one that screamed sorrow and lost. I knew that pain all too well”
They both feel pain and sorrow, they both grieved for what they thought they could never have anymore. They were bruised, they were shatered, they were torn, but despite what they believed, they weren’t broken.
They just needed some magic to get back together again. They just needed their love.
“It was the kiss that sealed my fate.
I was falling in love with my grouchy, tormented neighboor. I was falling in love with a man who had a little magic of his own”
In the middle of their own pain, they found solace in each other. They understood one another, even with their secrets, because they were so familiar with raw emotions. No matter how scared they were to let go of their pain, their love was getting stronger and stronger.
“Piper Cambell had broken past all of my walls and made me fall in love with her. She’d worked her way into my broken heart, filling the black holes with light”
But the beauty of it all is that this book wasn’t just about their love. It was about what their love could do.
Even the plot and the development of the story wasn’t something you read in every book. It wasn’t just “boy meets girl, boy kiss girl, they fall in love and live happily ever after”. It was so much more than that.
The story was a journey of healing. It was to let someone else get in, it was about trust. It was about letting go of rage, hatred and anger and realize that the bottom of it all was the grief of the lost for so much more than what was really gone. It was about learning to forget and go on.
It was about the love that opens the door to let tragedy step outside so a new beggining can get in.
It wasn’t about just loving each other. It was about what that love could do so they could try again. It was about learning that you don’t need to forget old loved ones, you need to let new love come in.
It was about seeing that even the one who caused unbearable pain can also be in pain. It’s never an excuse, but it’s a raw reality, and even that one deserves a second chance.
As I said, it was about healing, even (and specially) from tragedy.
“It was time to stop letting a tragedy run my life. It was time to stop moving backward”
Life has a funny way of surprising you. Sometimes the surprise can wreack you, sometimes the surprise can put you back together.
But in these little wonders, in these twists and turns of fate, we don’t need to forget about our pain. We need to remember our saving love.
“‘I don’t want to be reminded of you in pain’
‘And I want you to always remember that you saved me'”
Tragic is PERFECTION in the most broken way
Wow…. I don’t even know where to start. This book…. this book grabs you by the heart in the Prologue and doesn’t let you go until the last page. The raw emotions leap from the pages and leave your heart in your throat as these two-broken people heal each other. This is no jump from broken to healed. It is a gut wrenching, heart wrenching journey of two people who thought they were broken beyond repair. I read many books, but rarely am I touched deep in my soul as I was with this book. Tears were never far from the surface all through the book. Some of the subject matter I could relate to, but even if you can’t relate, this book makes you believe that there is a little magic out there for all the people who believe they are broken beyond repair.
This book could have easily been called Magical, but Tragic will make you believe again. Devney Perry, rarely you disappoint, but this book is my Top Read of 2018. Thank you for making this fractured heart & soul believe that love and healing are possible.
From the bottom of my soul, thank you for this book.
