As author Tahlula Rae has discovered; success is a double-edged sword. Leading a quiet and anonymous life, she isn’t prepared for the hateful backlash when her latest book hit the lists, propelling her into the limelight. No longer feeling safe in Denver, she takes her laptop and dog, Luke, and moves to the mountains around Durango, where her peaceful solitude is disrupted when a red-bearded man … man knocks on her door.
While one of the fire department’s finest, Evan Biel, is relatively content with his life, he can’t escape the sense something’s missing. When on fire-safety housecalls, he finds himself staring into a pair of soulful, copper-colored eyes sparking a deep interest. Discovering the exotic-looking woman may be in more trouble than he can handle, he tries—yet fails—to keep his distance.
When Tahlula offers San Antonio firefighters, Moose and Penelope Jacobs, temporary lodging, as they help fight seasonal wildfires, Evan’s relieved she’s no longer alone on the mountain. Yet when her troubles become outright threats on her life, his focus has to be keeping Tahlula safe.

Romantic suspense that is wonderfully written with incredible characters. I really love Evan as a character; he is almost every thing you would want in a characters. Tahlula is a very strong and confident woman. This is a fantastic read.

4.5 stars *****. Good and interesting read! Grabs your attention from the beginning when a writer escapes to a smaller town in Colorado to evade a stalker and the firefighter befriends her. There is a twined conspiracy, crazy people, murder, forest fires, love and a baby. Whew! It touches on several sensitive issues and has some cultural differences familiar to Harry and Meghan. Easy, well written and fast paced read. All of a sudden, it’s ended. I need to read more of this author and series.

Loved this sweet sassy romance with Tahlula and Evan who are both a little older and she is a strong sassy lady who can take care of herself but even strong women sometimes need someone to step up and take of them. Evan was exactly what she needed and I love the character that he was. Very enjoyable read.

Freya Barker delivers another winner in her Operation Alpha series. Evan, who we met in Burning for Autumn, takes one look at beautiful, cafe-au lait skinned Tahlula and feels an immediate and intense attraction. She knows nothing about the sexy firefighter and when she hints at his possible involvement in a fire where a body was found, he walks away from her, knowing he could never be with someone who could judge him that way. Unable to get this gorgeous pregnant woman out of his head, he finds himself doing what he can to watch over her, especially once he realizes she could be in danger.
Tahlula is a strong, independent woman and an author who initially fights her attraction to Evan. However, the more time she spends getting to know Evan and discovers the kind of man he is, the more she falls for him. As they make their way through this relationship, they must contend with her very protective brother who happens to be a member of an MC and a white supremacist splinter group bent on her destruction. This book really had me going. Not only is it a sweet and poignant love story, it is also a wild ride on a suspenseful crazy train. The other stand out in this story is the appearance of the characters in the previous two books, which brings in continuity and a real feeling of community. I highly recommend this book and if I could give it more than 5 stars I absolutely would.

While this is the third book in the series it can easily be read on its own although the previous books are just as good as this one and well worth a read. This was another well-written book that will pull you in and keep your hood this is a really great romantic suspense and a great addition to the series I would recommend it
Tahlula Is an author and her agent tries to get hold of her for about a week before the agent goes missing. Evan meets Tahlula as he goes door to door to talk to people about safety to prevent wild fires. This is a great story with fantastic characters and great suspense.

Yay!!!! Evan is getting his story and damn it is a good one. I liked Evan when he was first introduced in this series but in the end felt he got a little bit shafted. Ms. Barker did good by Evan giving him a sizzling chemistry with a wonderful strong independent woman that keeps him on his toes.
Evan loves his job as a fire fighter and the community family he has with his team at the hall. His mother is close and he spends quality time with her. But at this point in his life he is starting to feel like he might not find that one true love and the family that he once dreamed about. Yes guys do dream too. When the normal calls of a the hot fire season send him door to door to check to make sure everyone is doing their part, he is quickly enamoured by the beautiful woman he finds up on the hill.
Tahlula is a writer who has decided that she is no longer going to wait for her Mr. Right. Making the decision to become a single mother was an fairly easy one for her, since she was raised by a single mom until she passed when she was 11 years old. She doesn’t give her trust easily and even less so since she has dealt with some racial issues in the past year. Finding herself in a new town with a solid plan, she is determined to give her new family the best she can. Having her brother close is a great draw to her new surroundings.
The chemistry between Evan and Tahlula is strong from the first sighting. When they realize that what was thought to be a forest fire was set on purpose in her back yard, Evan’s protective side comes out full force. She might not be ready for all that, but for some reason she has a quick trust in Evan and is reluctantly willing to let him help and be there for her. The twists and turns in this plot are smooth and intriguing. Keeping you on your toes and reading to uncover the mystery. I love that Ms. Barker is not afraid to tackle some of the hard topics, like biracial relationships that we get in this book.
I am loving this series full of wonderful characters and the bringing back some old friends from previous series. I am also loving the draw from Susan Stoker’s characters in this cross over world.

A definite 4.5.
Tahlula has had some issues at home so desides to up sticks and get out of the big city. She moves into a beautiful house surrounded by the most gorgeous scenery. The perfect setting to allow her creativity to flow and her books to get written. Being a writter she should have expected the unexpected but nothing prepared her for Evan. The hot fireman who visits her house as part of a fire awareness campaign. The sexual sparks they give off are a danger to the surrounding countryside. After a few false starts and misunderstandings they finally get it together, justas the danger Tahlula thought she had left behind catchrs up to her. Another excellent read from Freya.
I love these characters. It is a stand-alone but if you have read Burning for Autumn you have met Evan before. He is a firefighter and meets Tahlula when going to the house she has moved into to tell her about how to be prepared for the dry season fires. Tahlula is a writer that has moved due to some incidents in her old town after her latest book hit the charts. She has decided to have a baby on her own as isn’t really looking for a relationship. The more the two end of up running into each other the more the attraction grows for them. Soon though Tahlula’s life starts to be in danger and Evan will do whatever it takes to keep Tahlula and her unborn baby safe. Will they get their HEA? Such great writing and characters. Don’t miss this story!

5 star Review Tracking Tahlula (Police & Fire: Operation Alpha) by Freya Barker
Freya Barker is a relatively new author to me. This is author Tahlula Rae and fireman Evan Biel’s story and it was one that captivated me from the first to the last chapter.
Seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of Denver, and her loss of privacy since becoming a successful author, Tahlula has moved to Durango. The writing was descriptive and I found myself easily imagining Durango, a place that I would love to visit.
This was a a book filled with some danger, intrigue and suspense which added an additional layer to the story.
I loved how caring, protective and supportive Evan was with Tahlula, totally swoon worthy. I think the fact that they are in their 40’s made it easier to relate to them.; it’s a refreshing change. Tahlula is spirited, independent and feisty, I loved her.
When Tahlula’s past catches up with her, Evan will do what he needs to in order to protect and keep her safe.
Evan and Tahlula make a fantastic couple and I was cheering for them to get their happily ever after.
This book is a little gem and I cannot wait to read more from Ms. Barker.
Wow! This was such a ride, every minute of this story was action packed and amazing! We have met Evan before, and I will admit I was one of the people that for a few chapters doubted him during all that drama with Autumn. I am so glad that he finally gets his own story and HEA of his own.
Tahlula moved to Durango after her last book hit the best sellers list and with that came a price of fame that took an ugly turn. With her brother in the same town, her dog and a house that she calls her own, Tahlula is intent on making a new life for herself and put all that ugliness behind her. Meeting Evan was not in her plan, but then plans always have a way of changing.
This was such a roller coaster of what felt like non-stop action and drama. I was pulled in from the very start and proceeded to inhale this story. I loved everything about it, and give this 5 stars.
The book is a good romantic suspense read. The story is the third book in the On Call series but can be read as a standalone read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry.

After being in a bit of a reading funk for the past few weeks, Tracking Tahlula was exactly what I needed!
Evan Biel is a bearded ginger hottie firefighter who is a genuinely good guy but who also has enough of a take charge attitude to ensure that he won’t be one of those nice guys who finish last. He still feels the sting of being suspected in a string of fires by people he respected, but he is starting to move beyond it.
Tahlula is a fiercely private and independent woman who has been taking care of herself since her mom died when Lula was just fifteen. Her older half brother Trunk stepped in to help, and he is both the only family she has and one of very few people she trusts. She never expected to be thrust into the public eye when she wrote a bestseller but her publisher forced her to reveal her identity thanks to a clause in her contract. When nasty emails and threats started to roll into her social media accounts, Tahlula had enough and decided to escape to the Colorado mountains to be near Trunk.
Sparks fly the first time Evan and Lula meet but her interfering and overprotective brother runs him off in short order. The attraction definitely simmers and quickly reaches a boiling point when they are reminded life is too short to waste. It’s not long before they realize danger seems to have followed her to Durango though, and Evan has to split his focus between keeping her safe and fighting the relentless wildfires that keep popping up all around the area. Now with multiple lives on the line, they have more incentive than they ever expected to fight to protect their future.
I really loved both these characters! Evan is that elusive man that knows how to pick his battles wisely, and while Tahlula can hold onto an argument, she doesn’t take it to unreasonable lengths. The element of biracial romance and the ignorant reactions some people in this world have to it was well done in my opinion too. Love, family and friendship played an important role as Tahlula found the best parts of life thanks to her unexpected move.
I am going to be eagerly waiting to see Trunk and several members of Evan’s crew find the partner that knocks them off their feet after the way they enjoyed poking at Evan, but in the meantime I am going to go back and savor this one a little more!
ARC received from author
Another great read by one of my go-to authors! Evan and Tahlula’s story had all the makings of what I love in her books; great characters, intense chemistry, a great suspense filled storyline and amazing secondary characters. In Tracking Tahlula we get Evan Biel’s story, we first hear about him in Burning for Autumn and things did not go so well for him so I was ecstatic to see him get his happily ever after. Tahlula Rae is a strong, independent and now a best selling author, but with this great accomplishment she is now getting unexpected backlash from her latest book. She decides to relocate and hide out near her half-brother in Colorado. Unfortunately her troubles follow her when she finally started to feel safe.
The attraction between Evan and Tahlula is pretty much there from their first meet, but misunderstandings and some personal hang ups do keep them apart in the beginning. But circumstances keeps putting them in each other’s paths. And once Evan finds Tahlula is in danger, he will stop at nothing to keep her safe.
Overall, I loved this story and seeing familiar faces is always a treat. I am now looking forward to the next in this series and any others by this author.
Tracking Tahlula by Freya Barker is beautifully written romantic suspense novel that is just to die for. With a strong confident woman determined to remain independent and a gorgeous firefighter that wants nothing more than to protect her from the evil that is trying to get to her. Barker does a great job with descriptions of the breath-taking scenery in Durango Co and the story that she has brought to life on the pages of this book which is part of the On Call series. A standalone read with interesting characters that will be continued in the next book code 10-Code. 5 stars for the hotter than a forest fire book Tracking Tahlula.
Tahlula Rae has finally made it onto the New York Times bestseller list. With this great accomplishment comes some notoriety that she was not expecting. After a break-in at her apartment and threatening messages, Tahlula decides to leave Denver and move to the mountains of Durango, Co. While on routine fire warnings, firefighter Evan Biel knocks on the lone house up on the mountain to warn the owner of the upcoming dry season. What Evan did not expect was the beautiful woman that answers the door. Circumstance after circumstance push Evan and Tahlula together to the point they can no longer deny their attraction and their inevitable relationship. Tahlula slowly becomes aware of the dangers that seemed to have followed her from Denver and are threatening her secluded retreat from the world. Now Evan and the rest of the rescue squads in Durango must work extra hard to not only fight the summer’s wildfires but to keep Tahlula safe from hidden dangers.
I was so excited to get Evan’s story. Poor guy got the shaft in Burning for Autumn. He not only didn’t get the girl but, was also falsely accused of setting deadly fires. You could tell from his first introduction he was just a nice guy, and sadly nice guys don’t always finish first.
As much as I loved Autumn in in that book, she wasn’t right for Evan, but Tahlula was. Tahlula has had a pretty rough life. Even though she didn’t know it, she needed a guy like Evan. One who would take care of her because he wanted to, not because she couldn’t take care of herself.
Both Tahlula and Evan are in their very early 40’s. It’s so nice to see a mature couple find their happily ever after. Not that I have anything against books about 20 year olds, it’s just nice to get a different change of pace.
I loved Tracking Tahlula and hope there are more Freya Barker and Susan Stroker pairings in the future. Both authors are queens at romantic suspense. They compliment each other very well.
Another great addition to this On Call series! I’ve been wanting to know more about the firefighter Evan since first meeting him in Burning For Autumn. When meeting Tahlula I thought she was a perfect match for him. Strong, independent, witty, loving…all the things that make for a great female lead for me. Their story kept me entertained from start to finish. We were introduced to some new characters in this book and I can’t wait to get their stories, especially Jaimie and Trunk! I have a feeling their book will be explosive!
Holy heck, I love Evan!!! I swear this author knows exactly what I want in a hero and gives it to me…every…single…time.
When Tahlula’s career takes off in a way she never expected, or wanted, she moves to a remote mountain home in Durango. Not long afterwards, she receives a visit from Evan, one of the local fireman and a man she feels an instant attraction to. But when her past comes calling, her new life is turned upside down.
Tahlula is fiercely independent. She has some pretty quick come backs for not only her brother who is overly protective but for Evan who is more so. I loved her spark and humor as well as her sweet spirit. The fact that she had lived her life somewhat isolated for so long made watching her blossom under not only Evan’s care, but that of her new community, a beautiful thing.
I loved everything about Evan. He checked every single box I have for my heroes. He was instantly attracted to Tahlula and felt protective of her despite thinking she belonged to another man. His care and concern for her stole my heart, repeatedly. My gosh, this man had me swooning at some of his small actions. From the very beginning his heart was involved and his intensity only grew as their relationship did.
This couple was freaking amazing together. There was no real relationship angst and watching them fall in love was wonderful. The fact that it all happens while they are thrown into some serious danger and drama from outside sources only added to my enjoyment. The heroine has a bit of a surprise that only added to the beauty of this story. And holy heck did Evan prove he was everything she would ever need.
This starts off fast and never slows down. Everything about it feels authentic, with only one moment that I had to side eye the heroine. Otherwise, I was so engulfed in this story, once I started I could not stop. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a mature couple, a completely committed from the first moment hero, a strong heroine, amazing secondary characters, and some danger to round it all out.
